Took a day for a return call. First bad sign. Second bad sign was not giving estimate for repair and just doing the work. Third bad sign was suggesting to replace unit. Said I was short to pounds of coolant but now looking back I wonder if I was. Ripped off!!!
Description of Work: Replaced capacitor and added 2 pound of R22 for almost $600. Capacitor was $400!!!! Google price of Capacitor.

I am sorry you feel that the price was to high. Unfortunately there are many expenses involved when running an Air Conditioning company that the consumer doesn't see. ( trucks, gas, wages, insurance, office, phones, etc) So the price to have that particular capacitor on our truck and install it at that time is convenience. Most larger company's cost more for those repairs. Please call and we can explain in more details how Air Conditioning companies price there products. We have a new customer service team that is eager to help you.

We called Absolute Comfort out for our annual tune up for our A/C unit.I was given a 3 hour window of 8-11. At 11:15 I still had not heard from anyone and was about to call. I finally got a call from someone who said the technician got stuck on another job and it would be another 1-1.5 hours. I understand that things come up so I was annoyed but told them that was fine. He finally shows up and before even looking at the unit tries to get me to do an air balance test which would be $700. I told him not thank you I just want to make sure everything is working properly. He goes in the attic to check the coil, come down and tells me the coil has a leak it will be around $3000 to fix. I looked at him like he was crazy and told him I would obviously need to talk to my husband but to go ahead and just check the outside unit. He checks the outside unit and tells me it is 4 pounds low on freon, the capacitor needs to be replaced and the connector is "burnt up." I told him I would have my husband look at the capacitor and connector when he got home but to go ahead and put the freon in. He then tells me he can put stop leak in, for $200, and that may fix the leak in the coil. I told him to go ahead $200 is better than $3000. He did all repairs and left. Later my husband came home, he went outside to look at the unit and saw absolutely nothing wrong with either the capacitor or connector. We can't figure out what he meant by the connector is "burnt up." Granted my husband is not a professional A/C repair man but he knows enough to know what looks right and wrong. Everything seemed to be in normal working condition. Then my husband went up in the attic...the technichen had cut open the box that contains the coil, which he would have to do to inspect the coil, but instead of sealing it back had just placed a bag of grout on top of it that we had in the attic. Therefore we had pretty much been cooling our attic the entire afternoon. This is so unprofessional and wrong on MANY levels. My husband immedietly called to have the technician explain. The technician claims that is how he found it, which is very untrue. Even if it was how he found it why would you not seal it back up as you are there to do an A/C check or at the VERY least tell me about so that I could fix it myself. He did come back out that night and seal it back up after my husband gave him no choice. We also took pictures and emailed them to the company. We never heard anything back. I will NEVER call them again! I feel like he was just saying whatever he could to get money out of me.

Technician said that both units needed run/start kits as well as new run capacitors to allow units to run for another 5 years. I agreed and spent $1289 for this service. As soon as tech left I noticed that the larger 5 ton unit was making a screeching noise. I called and tech came back 3 days later. He said that he couldn't do anything about it and I should put shims under the unit. I did and it didn't help at all. I called back 3 times over the next 2 weeks to try to talk to the manager. He finally did call me back after the 3rd time I called. He sent a different tech over who found out that the run capacitor the first tech put in was bad. He replaced and the noise went away. 6 weeks later the 5 ton unit would no longer start up. I called them back out and they said the compressor was bad. This compressor was only 4 years old. I certainly won't let them put in a new one though.

I am sorry about your experience with Absolute Comfort. We take great pride in trying to make each brand of equipment last as long as possible. Adding Start kits is a proven strategy on extending life to compressors. We apologize that the run capacitor was bad. Sometimes things are out of our control. We cant control the preexisting condition of the compressor. We have a new customer service team at Absolute that would love to assist you further.

Call them at 8:00 am on a Monday. They were here within 1.5 hours. Fixed a/c on the spot with parts on the truck. I have used these guys on 4 occasions over the last 10 years. I have found them punctual, honest, and reasonable. They are good about repairing systems instead of just replacing them. My last 2 repairs were made by Dino who was honest & professional. Have used them for a hard-start kit, running capacitor, and Freon charges. I have always received same day service at no additional cost. I would highly recommend.

Absolute Comfort has handled all of our HVAC concerns for over a decade. When I needed them in a hurry once, they came through, although I did have to threaten to use a competitor. They have provided us with their professional recommendations but have never been pushy or tried to sell us anything. The technicians have always been helpful and professional. I am frankly surprised by the number of negative comments, though as stated above, it has been one year since used.

I had scheduled for them to come out to my house today (April 10) between 9am and 12pm to do a 19-point inspection on my A/C unit for $49.95. I had to reschedule my time at work from 2pm to 10pm today to account for their 3 hour window. I waited around and at 12:01pm Casey calls me from the office to tell me the technician is on their way and should be there within 45 minutes. I explained to her my situation of rescheduling my work schedule to be there at 2pm and she said that it is there schedule and can be extended to which I explained this wasn't explained to me yesterday when I made the appointment. She got the manager Dana on the phone and she explained the same thing that Casey was telling me and I asked what they could do to make everything right like a discount or do the inspection for free? She called the owner and Dana came back and said the owner of the company "Ed" said they could not do anything like that (although over the past couple years had spent $4,000.00 with Absolute Comfort Air). I explained to her I would like to put this on hold for now and if the owner "Ed" would like to earn my business back to give me a call, then Dana said ok and repeated my name and number, sadly I have not heard back from the owner.
Description of Work: did not cover the 3 hour window the schedule was set for 9am - Noon, the office called at 12:01pm and said they needed another 45 min til the tech got to my house... after some explaining I decided to put on hold and informed Dana that if they would like my business back to have the owner Ed give me a call, sadly Ed has not called me.

Our A/C's crashed after having construction work done in our house and were not cooling. The technician Rick came that evening, went to the back yard and pushed the red reset button, then proceeded to write up a ticket. The next morning we noticed that the A/C was not functioning again and called. Rick came out and pushed the button again showing my husband where it was so he could push it again when the unit failed. We asked what was wrong with it and was told " I don't know". We decided that we couldn't live like that and called someone with all "A's" on Angie's List. They promptly came out and did a VERY THOROUGH inspection of our whole system. We were told that the A/C's had been stressed, the coil was leaking Freon and were down a total of 9 pounds among other problems. The fact that we paid for a bandaid when we needed major procedure left us in "Absolute Discomfort".

Horrible-Who charges $270. to shoot water through a pipe? This amount was a yearly maintenance fee I did one time because I have American Home Sheild and thought I had to use this company. They charged me for freon and I didn't need it.Since I've used Angies List contractors its amazing..I havent been low on freon in 3 years-thats bc I never was low on freon in the first place because Its a close system and I dont have a leak. They shot water onto the side of my house which adjoins my bedroom closet. My dry wall got soaked and stained and now has mold" They said they couldn't possibly have have caused the problem. My wall has never been wet before or after their visit so how can that be explained. After I kept complaining they sent a " Master technician" out and he said " nope-impossible that my guy did it" so that's the end of my story. I will never use them again!

I am sorry you feel this way. I did pull the invoice pertaining to the date in question. The invoice states that both indoor and outdoor coils were dirty due to lack of maintenance. This is a normal occurrence, the ac systems need to be cleaned periodically to maintain proper function and energy savings. This cost ranges from $100 to $500 depending on the coils access. So being charged $270.00 for both cleanings and a maintenance fee seems very reasonable to me. Second is that we came a year earlier through American Home Shield Warranty on a no cooling call, at that time we found that your unit was low on Freon. We added Freon at that time and The unit was working. There was no Freon needed the next annual inspection. Now I personally was not involved in your situation and apologize for the inconvenience. If there is anything I can do in the future please let me know. Ask for Chad and refer to this review.

Sorry, I did it all above!
Description of Work: They called us to let us know it was time for our 6-month 'get ready for summer' check-up. We have always found them to be a reliable and honest company to work with. He performed a routine check up; checked thermostat, coolant (it used to be freon, don't know what they use now). The biggest problems we had with them were: They NEVER figured out that they should call ME, not my husband! I am usually at home, he works! No matter how many times we gave them our home phone AND my cell #, they only called my husband. That was very irksome. Also: The workman was at least 10 minutes later than the latest of the time window given. This meant that the workman got in the way of my cleaning ladies! Had he come in the early part of the window of time the company said he would come, the cleaning ladies would not have been there. Third thing: Over the phone, the company said they would give us a 20% discount for being 'loyal customers.' By the time the workman finished, I was SO ready for him to be gone & have a little peace & quiet, I fortgot to remind him about the discount--I should NOT have to 'remind' them to give me a discount! Not only that, because I paid by credit card, he said he had to 'round UP' to the next whole dollar amount! DO make sure you get a dollar & cents total by email or text before the workman comes! DO have the workman clarify the total price as soon as he arrives! DON'T have him come the same day as your cleaning ladies if you have them!

The A/C unit went out over night. I called Absolute Comfort at around 8:30. As usual, they scheduled a technician to come out that day, from 1-3 pm. They called at around 1:20 saying a Tech was on his way and he arrived within 20 minutes of the phone call. Hector, the service tech, was professional he checked out the A/C and discovered the capacitor was bad. He replaced that but before we turned the A/C unit back on he double-checked and noticed improper voltage. After a few minutes of trouble shooting, he discovered that the breaker switch had been arcing and it was the real reason the capacitor went out. Hector installed a new breaker and buttoned up the A/C unit. He did a final check of the freon level and discovered I was low so he topped that off too. This is probably the 4th or 5th time Absolute Comfort has come out and worked on my A/C over the last few years and every time I feel they have taken care of the problem without trying to sell me a brand new A/C unit which is usually my biggest complaint about others.
Description of Work: Repair of A/C unit, replaced capacitor, replaced breaker shut-off at A/C unit, recharged with Freon.

I have been a long-time, faithful customer of Absolute Comfort since 1999--and believed and trusted them 100%, until now! They have done my "spring checks," installed a new American Standard air handler in 2002, and have done other necessary maintenance throughout the past 12+ years--I have used them exclusively. Last spring, the tech repaired my old condensor by putting in a new motor fan in order for it to make it through our long hot summer last year, and also at that time he HIGHLY suggested that I consider replacing the condensor this year (2012). Absolute Comfort had installed the air handler in my attic in 2002, but not the condensor. I called Absolute Comfort TWO (2) times this week, requesting that the serviceman who serviced my unit last year and who had suggested I get a new condensor this year, and NEVER received a call back! I left 2 messages this week for him to call me regarding giving me an estimate on a new American Standard condensor, yet I never received a call back. On my second call to the Absolute Comfort this week, I confirmed that this particular serviceman IS still employed at Absolute Comfort. I could NOT understand why I was receiving no call backs! It was so unlike the service I had received from Absolute Comfort in the past 12+ years!!! I had always thought Absolute Comfort was a very good company, and had been pleased with their service in the past. However, before calling Absolute Comfort the THIRD time on Wednesday, I checked on Angie's List, and called a very highly-rated air conditioning company and asked whether they carried American Standard, as I wanted to get an American Standard condensor. After speaking in length with the owner of the other air conditioning company that I called, which is a very highly-rate air conditioning company on Angie's List, I decided I wouldn't bother to call Absolute Comfort back for the THIRD time in a week, but rather, I would do business with this new company. This time of the year is traditionally an air conditioning company's SLOW season--so it's not like Absolute Comfort was likely to have been booked through eternity--but I got the message they didn't have the time to give a long-time, satisfied customer an estimate for new equipment??!!!?? Is Absolute Comfort under new ownership or management? I don't know, but I am still perplexed as to WHY I never received a return call for either of my two telephone calls I placed to them earlier this week!!! I had never been treated this way in the past by Absolute Comfort--never! The owner of the new company was VERY professional, and even had an available serviceman to come out to my home and give me an estimate for a new condensor within the hour! When the serviceman of the new company arrived, he was very professional and thorough. He inspected my current 10-year old American Standard air handler I had purchased from Absolute Comfort and pointed out some issues--as the unit was rusting, and he informed me that it would possibly need more than the usual yearly check-up services within a year or two. There was also the issue with the type of American Standard condensor I could buy to put with my existing air handler, because of the federal changes in what types of 'freon' (cooling gases) can now be used!!! I would have had to have purchased a condensor that still used the old R22 cooling gas, as I wanted to purchase an American Standard condensor to be compatible with my American Standard air handler. I was also informed by the new company serviceman that the air handler that Absolute Comfort installed in 2002 was TOO BIG for my 'less than 1500-square-foot' townhouse!!! In 2002, Absolute Comfort sold me a 4-ton air handler, and my existing condensor was a 2.5 ton condensor, and my square footage is 1480 square feet! Obviously, my efficiency level while running my air conditioning unit for the past 10 years has been very sub-par! You would think the serviceman selling a customer an air handler would at least sell one that was the proper size for the square footage it was to cool--obviously this was not a priority with Absolute Comfort at that time. I felt a LOT of disappointment, as I had ALWAYS previously put a lot of faith and trust in Absolute Comfort and their service!!! The serviceman of the new company explained that with the difference in the sizes of the air handler, the existing condensor, and the size of my townhouse, the unit was NOT extracting the proper amount of moisture from my house--i.e., after all that is what air conditioning does--it cools by removing the moisture/heat from the air! I would NOT recommend wasting your time with Absolute Comfort--a company who obviously sold me a product that was TOO BIG for good service in my townhome, and who didn't 'bother' to return my calls requesting an estimate on the purchase of a new condensor! We live and learn, and thank goodness for testimonies on Angie's List. I purchased a complete new American Standard air handler and condensor from the new company! They installed it yesterday, and it's cooling great!!! The entire crew of 4 that did the installation were extremely professional and careful, they cleaned up their mess, and I was 100% satisfied! I also now have the properly sized, compatible equipment for my townhome, and hope for greater savings in the future in the electricity bill, along with years of comfort of well 'air conditioned' air!
Description of Work: I did not have any service done by Absolute Comfort this time. After making TWO telephone calls this week for an estimate to purchase a new condensor, and receiving NO RETURNED CALLS, I gave up and called another company! I had been a 12+ year customer of Absolute Comfort!!??! They had been the ONLY air conditioning company to work on my a/c equipment during the past 12+ years!?? I'm still perplexed, but I had to move on!

I have used Absolute twice before and was very happy. This past service was disappointing to say the least. My AC was not cycling so a technician was sent for service. He replaced the thermostat and then left. The house immediately started to get warmer and eventually was in the high 80's. I called to get them to return but absolute stated they had no available technicians till the morning. I called back and they sent a technician later that night. The tech after reviewing the system came to the conclusion a new compressor was needed for an approximate cost of $6,300.00. I started the process of applying for credit to get a new compressor. In the morning we had another tech come out from Ideal Air Services and he told us we did not need another compressor, it was that the wrong thermostat was installed and the wiring was done incorrectly. Both my air conditioning and heating ran all night. Ideal installed the correct thermostat and all is fine now. I called Absolute and told them I would never use them again and requested a refund, which they issue. The employee who called me back from Absolute said the technician who installed the incorrect thermostat was one of their better emplyees and was having some health issues. Not sure why that was needed to be conveyed, seems two technicans gave the wrong diagnosis. Again I will neither recommend Absolute or use them again.

I would not hire this company again. I feel that I was taken advantage of,
Description of Work: Called because upstairs a/c was not cooling. A technician was supposed to be out but came well past the 3 hour window I was given. He said we needed a new motor for the a/c unit outside. Came back the next day with the motor, then said the fan blade was bad and we needed a new one. Came back a third time,my bill went from $425 to $725. My a/c was still not cooling so I called again. A different tech came out, Robert. He couldn't figure out what exactly the 1st tech had done. He checked the unit found that the coil was frozen, so he had to come back the next day. He found that we needed 4 lbs of freon. The 1st tech never even checked to see if possibly we were low on freon. Robert advised us that we really needed a new system upstairs. Robert was very helpful and professional. When I called the company to speak to Mr. Shelton, the manager, I left two messages and neither was returned. I have sent him a certified letter requesting a requesting a refund for the unnecessary work which was done, As of today 6/13/11, I have not heard anything.

I have researched your invoices. It is hard for me to respond properly being that this was so long ago. The employees are no longer with us. I do apologize for any inconvenience and hard ache. I assure you if you give us a chance you will be highly impressed with our new team.

Fan started making noise last night. I waited till morning to call since it was a reasonably cool evening. Absolute Comfort set up the time for the service and then a little later called to see if I was at home to get it done earlier. Unfortunately I was not. I was at home at 2pm when the window for service started (2-5pm) and at 2:30 or so they called and said Dan was on the way. Dan was professional. Good guy, good company, good quality. Dan worked on it once before and when I have a problem again, I will call them. Dan and Absolute Comfort do the work that is needed and do it right. I trust them and I don't say that too often.
Description of Work: Condenser Fan was making noise. Dan from Absolute Comfort came out on time and replaced the condenser fan.

Very much as expected. They call the night before to confirm, then call before the tech arrives to let you know he's on his way. Today he was scheduled to be here in the 11-2 time window, and he was running behind, so the dispatcher called to let me know that, and when to expect him. He checked the inside air handler, then checked and cleaned the outdoor unit. He was here maybe 45 min.
Description of Work: They did the semi-annual A/C checkup. This co. installed the unit that we have now, and has done all the upkeep and a few needed repairs since that install in 2005. We bought a 10 year maintenance agreement when we had it installed, which covers a lot of parts and some labor, and we buy an annual contract from them for approx. $140 which covers two checkups, one spring, one fall, of the unit. There's some perks as a preferred customer, and those are spelled out in the contract. We have been happy with the unit and with our dealings with Absolute Comfort. It's good to know whom to call when something goes wrong, instead of looking in the phone book and crossing your fingers. They have long-term employees too--the tech who checked my unit today is the same one who has done it three times before.

Now, exactly one month later, the exact same problem occurred. So, I called Absolute Comfort to come back out and correct the problem they hadn't fixed the first time. It took three days of calling before they came to find out what was wrong. Mysteriously, ANOTHER valve seemed to be the culprit, and this compressor valve was going to cost $1,740 to replace!! I also discovered the technician had disconnected the breaker to the downstairs compressor while he was checking it. Therefore, the compressor was not going to work at all because it was disconnected from the power source. I made him reconnect the breaker and the compressor started working again, BUT, now it made a strange hissing noise it didn't make before he came. By that time, I had no faith whatsoever in this man's ability to fix my AC unit and told him I would be calling other contractors to get more estimates. I don't know trust this company.
Description of Work: My second floor AC had stopped cooling, so I called Absolute Comfort because they had come out when I used American Home Shield. I thought that I could trust them. Their technician said various valves and capacitators needed to be replaced. Each one cost a lot, from $189 to $385 each. He insisted that ARS which had checked my AC a few months previously had put in the wrong cacacitors, so they all had to be replaced. He also insisted on adding 4 lbs. of freon, too. The cost was quite high! I checked on the costs of the parts used online, and they could have been purchased for much less. The technician spent four hours doing this work. I paid the bill immediately and was assured that all was well. The AC worked for exactly one month and then it stopped cooling again.

We apologize that you had a bad experience with Absolute Comfort. Unfortunately air conditioning system are complicated device. If they are not maintained properly and you wait till something fails it leads to hidden problems for the future. In your case the compressor went out. It is very common on an old unit that after you repair one thing that something else fails. I wish we could be more exact.

It is an air conditioner and furnace servicing company. They found an issue with the furnace which I ended up allowing them to come back and fix. There was some problem with the thermostat and the cost for the fix was about $300. He did fix that while he was there. I also subscribe to American Home Shield which is a home warranty place. While he was fixing that, another issue came up. He called Home Shield right there and they authorized the repair on the other thing which would have been an additional $500; I didn?t have to pay that. I have used them a couple of times. I think they, and the quality of their work, are fine. They do good work. I don?t know how their price would compare. They are very punctual and responsive. I would use them in the future, if necessary.
Description of Work: We used Absolute Comfort Air Conditioning to inspect the furnace to make sure that everything was okay.

The AC furnace unit broke after a power trip due to Hurricane Ike. I contacted Absolute Comfort based on a recommendation of the previous owner of the house. I explained to them that it was still under warranty and showed them the paperwork. I was told that was fine and they would come out and have a look to see what was wrong with the unit. They did not make the first appointment time and had to reschedule a second time around. When they did turn up, it took them an hour to find out what was wrong with the unit. I was told that the AC needed a new motor and they had to order it. They would ring back as soon as they got the part. The technician did ring up the following day to say that it will take longer than expected. However, after that, there was silence for a week. I rang up to find out the status of the parts. I was told that they were still waiting for the part. Finally, I got a ring about two days later to say that they had found the part and would come and replace it. They performed the work and then I was handed the bill of $600. I asked if they had spoken to the warranty company and they told me that since the warranty had not been transferred to my name, they would have to charge me first and then would reimburse me as soon as I got the warranty changed to my name. They even put it down in writing on the invoice. So I paid and wrote to the warranty company to request a transfer of ownership. This was performed and, when I contacted Absolute Comfort in regards to the matter, I was told firstly that I needed to speak to the owner, but the owner was not in town until the following week. When I rang back the following week, I was told that I now needed to speak to accounts receivable, but they only come to the office at 5 pm. I did that, only to be told that the office was closed. I have even tried to send emails to them with copies of the warranty (in my name) and a copy of the invoice/receipt. However, there has been no response and I have been just put on a wild goose chase. I spoke to the warranty company, which mentioned that the claims had to come via the repair company. I am frustrated. My next plan of action is to go to their office to get to the bottom of this. Unfortunately, this is extremely unprofessional on their part!

I have researched your address and found a little info that might help explain why it took so long. The part was very new to industry and not very easy to find. I am not sure the policy back in 2009, but now we will not perform any warranty work with out a po number or a way to bill the warranty company. Also most warranty company's use there specific contractor and it is hard to change.
