The entire process was great. I called Mr. McBride on a Saturday and he said that I could drop it off that afternoon. Mr. McBride is obviously very knowledgeable and a true craftsman, unlike what you will find at a lot of furniture repair operations. He identified what the piece was originally finished with, a shellac. He said that he would had sand the price, refinish it and clean the parts that were not damaged. The lock apparatus needed to be replaced, and he did that as well and kept it located in the original lock case. He also repaired the feet, where there was some damage to the wood from overexposure to water. Mr. McBride quoted me a price on the spot and kept true to the price. He called me and asked if I wanted the new locking mechanism because it would be at an additional cost and I agreed before that portion of the repair took place. The entire process took about three weeks. The finished armoire looks amazing and will be a center piece. I am very impressed with Abbicus and have already recommended it to family and friends and will be a repeat customer.
Description of Work: My parents had a cedar armoire from the late 1890's that was damaged in the flooding that took place in south Louisiana in August of 2016. The piece sat in three feet of water for almost 36 hours. Once we got back in the house we found that the wood was in great shape because it is cedar but the finish was damaged and milky in color. It needed to be sanded down and refinished.

This review is really late because the work was done back in June 2015. I apologize for not doing use it sooner. We had two antique chairs with major problems. One was a French curved back chair on which the back was broken. It was not a clean break. On top of that wood was rather unusual making a seamless repair difficult. The other had a broken leg. It was one of six matching dining room chairs. I was skeptical that we would get a cleaning repair. Much to my amazement the Repairs were done perfectly. Only if you look very carefully can you see the repair. On top of this cost was minimal for such work. Completely and totally recommend Abacus and we'll use them again if needed. Great service Great price done by a nice guy too

The owner exhibited professionalism in every aspect. I explained to him what happened to the furniture and one of the legs appeared to be broken to where there were jagged edges and it seemed almost impossible. The job was completed in less than 3 days. The work was truly amazing!!! The furniture looked "showroom new!" If I hadn't taken pictures before, I would have had no proof that this expensive piece of furniture pieces had ever been damaged. If there is anybody out there that need any type of furniture repair and/or restoration, THE OWNER OF ABACUS IS A MASTERFUL ARTIST AND ONE OF A KIND!!!

He was easily contracts and very polite, friendly and professional in every way. Mr McBride took special care to match the stain on the new care seat so the back and seat looked appropriate together. I'll definitely be a returning customer even though he's an hour's side from my home!

Mr McBride of Abacus Furniture repair was outstanding in every was. He gave me clear expectations for when he could begin work on my furniture and began exactly on schedule. He repaired each piece of furniture beautifully-even improved two of them to a condition better than other they were damaged. He is highly stilled, fair and professional in every way.

Excellently. Mr. McBride looked at the chair, told me what was wrong, what he was going to do, and how long it was going to take. He was spot on in all the above. Chair works like new! In fact I am going to take my other chair like it to him to repair very soon!

It went Great! I was expecting to leave the chair with him, but he explained that the leg wasn't actually broken but one segment had come apart and needed re-gluing, plus some added support which he provided. He accomplished that while I waited, which was a great help rather than having to return for it later. It is a large chair and hard to handle. Mr. McBride seems to be an old-world type craftsman who loves his work. I definitely want to use his services again, and am already making plans. He was a real find. Thank you Angie's List and thank you Mr. McBride.

Kenneth did an excellent job of repairing my Amish glider rocker. He sourced new bearings from the original manufacturer (not sure how he found them, but he did!) and repaired the glider rocker as soon as the parts arrived. It works wonderfully now! I would recommend Kenneth to anyone needing furniture repair, he's a good find.

Mr. McBride works out of a workshop at his home. I have used Abacus before so I knew Mr. McBride does good work, and I was not disappointed. My chairs look great and are now nice and sturdy again. The parts he had to create blend well with the original chairs. He cleaned the chairs and oiled them in addition to the repairs/regluing. I just brought him the fourth chair to reglue. Mr. McBride is very professional. My chairs were ready when he said they would be and my bill matched the estimate. I highly recommend him. Even if you have a badly broken piece of furniture, he can probably fix it for you.
Description of Work: Mr. McBride repaired two antique dining room chairs and reglued a third one. One of the chairs needed a new spanner and one had a bunch of missing pieces (seat frame, leg bracing pieces).

We had a beautiful bedside chest, purchased from Horchow. The drawers never opened all the way due to issues with the tracks and guides holding the drawer. They were replaced and now the drawers work perfectly. The top of the chest had worn poorly after 15 years of use. We requested that he take a look to see how it could be improved. The "wood" was so thin that there weren't many options. He did add stain and a protective coat to hide the scratches. The finished piece is now very nice. This is not our first time to work with Mr. McBride. He has always done excellent work on all of the pieces we have taken to him. .

I brought my grandmother's antique china cabinet to Kenneth to repair a broken claw foot and cracked back feet. He restored them to their original appearance and stability. He also fixed the back board that holds the mirror in place to make it easier to replace it. I could tell from the looks of his shop that he knew what he was doing. He explained everything that he did, had it done within a week at a very fair price. I would gladly recommend him to my friends.

He repaired them within a week. Not only did he tighten the chair legs, but actually reworked the fittings to that the problem should not reoccur on any of the legs of any of the chairs. That's service above and beyond what you expect from most service providers these days. We're very pleased with Abacus Furniture, and will use them for any necessary repairs in the future.

I took 2 very old chairs that needed seat repair. Not only did Mr. McBride replace the caning on the seat of the rocker, he also took it apart and glued everything back together. This chair was always a little scary to rock in the way is creaked. NO MORE. It is unbelievable the difference in the way it works. On the ladder back chair that needed to have the reed replaced he did a beautiful job. I could not be happier.

Mr McBride is an excellent craftsman. He can repair things that I thought were destined to be thrown away. Mbr McBride does excellent work. He did repairs for us years ago but I lost him when his location changed. Thrilled to find him on Angie's List.
Description of Work: Repaired leg on chair over 100 years old. Repaired another chair of same age, including putting in a cane seat. Repaired desk top (pull down top) so it could take weight without breaking and added new lock. Probably also 100 years old. All pieces from my grand parents house.
