I brought the chairs to the workshop. The work was done in half of the time we agreed and I had the chairs sooner. The results are just perfect.

This is not the first job Mr. McBride has done for us, nor will it be the last. He is an old world artisan who clearly loves his work. The furniture he has repaired and/or refinished for us has always turned out beautifully.
Description of Work: My great-grandmother's tall, ornate secretary and round oak pedestal dining room table were both sorely in need of repair. Mr. McBride did a beautiful job.

All repairs were completed successfully.
Description of Work: Abacus reconstructed a drawer from antique dresser for us. The original glue holding the drawer together degraded, and the drawer came apart. Construction of the drawer was delicate, and the wood was dry and brittle. Abacus also repaired four dining room chairs, which had some degraded wood and fasteners.

Mr McBride of Abacus Restoration did an amazing job re-attaching the wooden leg, so much so that it is impossible to see which leg had been broken. He was always available when I telephoned (ie initially to inquire, to arrange delivery and to arrange pick-up), is a lovely gentleman and obviously very passionate about his work. I would not hesitate to recommend him!
Description of Work: We had accidentally broken one of the wooden legs on an upholstered bench - the leg was totally broken off and it was not a clean break.

My wife had old family trunk that was in poor shape that she wanted refinished. Well once again Kenneth McBride delivered a beautifully restored piece of furniture. The workmanship and degree of detail he illustrated was remarkable. I would and will use him again in a heartbeat.

Mr. McBride did an incredible job repairing and refinishing the table. It looks better after he worked on it than it did when it was new! Very knowledgeable, patient, pleasant, gentleman. He does EXCELLENT WORK for a very fair price. I can't say enough positive about this skilled craftsman - I have great confidence in his work.

Before you read all of this - and I have deleted some - know that I was very much and pleasantly surprised to receive a check in the mail with a nice note apologizing! Let me say that up until now, his work was beautiful. He is talented. BUT he should never ever have agreed to do this job. Why? Because as he himself states, he is not proficient in the use of drawer glides. I sent him pictures of the cabinet and told him what I wanted and he said yes, he could do that. I paid to have the piece delivered to him. I went there and we discussed what I wanted and he made suggestions. The drawers would fully extend and the depth would accommodate the CDs on end. Great. Just what I wanted. Did I want fully extendable drawers? Yes. HOWEVER, when the job was completed and I went to his shop to see it, the drawers are beautifully made, the decorative element on the front does slide out from the piece BUT the drawers did not open and close with ease, much less smoothly and certainly did not self-close without a push. This was when they were empty. He said they were the "only slides available" to him. I said what about Home Depot or Lowe's, they have fully extendable and self closing drawer glides. No, he ordered them from somewhere by the weight of what I wanted to put in them. We are talking about. By the weight? We are not talking about pots and pans here or china plates, we are talking about 2 rows of 25 CDs each.Anyway, he assured me these were the only ones available to him for what he wanted them to do and that when they had the weight cds in them they would work properly. Of course I believed him not to mention I hate disagreements. Well, with the addiditon of the Dcs and DVDs, the drawer situation was worse. Then out of the blue - the note and a check! I used the money to have the glides replaced and all is well. So, all is well.
Description of Work: I have a mid-century side board to which I wanted to have drawers for my DVDs and two shelves on the inside. He described what he could and would do for me and yet - the drawers do not work as promised. He refuses to make it right - see below.

Mr. McBride did an excellent job, repaired the the section by re-gluing the section area and adding additional support across the "knot" area of the wood. Re-glued all the sections and re-stapled all the fabric. Did all that while fighting through hurricane Harvey.
Description of Work: Single piece in tall chair was broken. Manufacturers had place a "Knot" and piece two shorter length sections together in the middle of the 5' long section. That knot and joint would not support any weigh or force, hence the section broke.

I delivered pieces to Mr. Kenneth McBride. He examines pieces, gives a quote for the work he can do, gives an invoice, then calls when pieces are ready for me to pick-up. Both times the furniture was repaired beautifully and I was pleased to pay the quoted price. The wait times were approximately 2 to 3 weeks depending on the project. I will happily use Mr. McBride in the future.

Mr. McBride is a treasure. He repaired three wobbly dining room chairs in less than a week and did an excellent job at a fair price. A true craftsman, which is hard to find these days. When we picked up the chairs we dropped off an old piano bench that's in sad shape. We can't wait to see what magic Mr. McBride can perform!

Excellent! The pieces turned out looking better than we anticipated them looking. Mr. McBride is very experienced, talented, and professional. He went out of his way to touch up areas we didn't point out and adjusted drawer slides so they would slide better and didn't charge us any more than he had originally stated. I would recommend his services for anyone looking for furniture touch-up, repair, or refinishing.
