 + -1 moreKenneth Mc Bride is the owner. He is a real life man and he has got a shop in his garage. He gets the stuff done really fast. He does a bunch of stuff ahead of time and he would tell when to come and pick it up. Once he gets the furniture in, he turns them around in one or two days. He is perfect in every way.
Description of Work: Abacus Furniture Restoration repaired my chair. I have used him twice this year.

Kenneth was swamped since it was the holidays so it took awhile to be completed but he went to the extra effort of changing out dowels and completely stripping the wood so it looked new. he also asked us to bring a chair with the color we wanted the stain and had us help pick out the stain.
Description of Work: I had two chairs that had been out in the rain and were therefore rotting. We wanted them restored for our dining room set.

Description of Work: Mr. McBride repaired a intricately carved side table sent from China to my mother about 1945. He repaired the damage caused by movers, & cleaned the surface. It hasn't looked this good since I took possession in 1970.

 + -1 moreCould not have been more pleased with the results! The chaise lounge chairs looked awful with mildew and dirty, gray, cracking surfaces from ~8 years in the sun without any oil or work done on them since purchased. They now look better than new and every function from back adjustment, to lifting "bent leg" slots, to drink tray and arm adjustments all function smoothly. Note that he is a one man shop, so it may take a little longer than other places. But, he did complete the work in the time frame he had originally projected ......and for me the quality of the work was well worth a little wait.
Description of Work: Fixed barstool, and repaired and restored two badly weathered teak chaise lounges that were also in poor mechanical condition (bolts and other hardware parts had cracked or were missing). Kenny is very professional and clearly takes pride in his work. I originally asked for a minimal repair to the chairs because they were old and I didn't imagine how good they could look. In the process of performing the work for the first chair, he decided that it wouldn't look right with the partial re-finish we had discussed so he did a complete refinish and asked to see me before starting the second lounge chair. He apologized but said he wouldn't have felt right about the job the way we had originally planned it. He offered to fully restore the second chair in the same way for just the cost of product over the minimal repair cost. It was a gracious offer, but I was so pleased with how great the first chair looked that I couldn't in good faith have taken the discounted price. I paid him the higher, original amount he had quoted for a full refinish since the quality of his work was so outstanding.

Description of Work: Frank is an awesome craftsman. I took an antique headboard with a broken spindle and two chairs to have repaired. He said he would do the headboard, but then told me everything I needed so I could fix the chairs myself! You can't even tell the headboard was ever broken. His best work is evident in the garage where he works. He does some absolutely beautiful refinishing and many of the pieces are quite large. The small ones he will fit in, but call ahead and be prepared to wait a few months for him to do your big piece. He is a true craftsman and don't rush him. You won't be disappointed!

Description of Work: Mr. McBride did a wonderful job refinishing a table base that belonged to my grandmother. I had a buffet piece from the same set refinished previously and Mr. McBride was able to match the base to the buffet. The finish was hand rubbed and is just beautiful. I guess you can tell I am extremely pleased.

I did not want to spend a lot of money completely refinishing them from scratch, and he was able to work with me on performing a lesser refinish while still making them significantly more sturdy and touching up the finish. I also had two chairs with a broken top and broken arm, and he repaired those excellently. I would highly Abacus Furniture Restoration and working with Mr. McBride was a pleasure.

 + -1 moreHis shop is at his house (not in the greatest part of town), and that is where i brought the chairs. You are in the right place. Nice guy and did an excellent job, including the touch-up paint where the work was done. They feel sturdier now than when they were new. Told me about a week, and he called me in a week to pick them up. The final price was less than what he had quoted me and was reasonable. Would definitely take any future wood/furniture restoration/repair work to him.
Description of Work: had 5 nice kitchen table chairs (bought at Star Furniture) that the legs had begun to spread apart - i had attempted to repair in the past, but were now coming completly apart.

 + -1 moreAfter having a parade of "woodworking specialists" that I found in the Yellow Pages look at my chest of drawers, they either lacked access to some necessary parts or didn't have the expertise to fix it to my satisfaction. I then found Mr. McBride with Abacus Furniture Restoration through Angie's List. While he too didn't have the necessary parts, he improvised and crafted them himself and my chest of drawers is now superior to its original condition when I purchased it some 30 years ago. Mr. McBride is old school and his word is solid. I highly recommend him to anyone in need of his services.

 + -1 moreThe base of our table was chewed and scratched terrible by our new dog, PD. I was amazed at the work Abacus did. The base of the table looks like nothing ever happened. The stain color and smoothness was perfect!
Description of Work: This is the second time I have used Mr. McBride. His work is absolutely fabulous! He is quick too. One of our dogs chewed up a chair and the base of the dining room table.  + -1 moreHe is a very nice man. I took it in and saw all the work he had in his garage to do and was a little worried. He told me that it would be awhile and asked if that would be OK. I was not in a hurry, I just wanted someone to do a good job on it. He called and told me it was ready, I picked it up and was thrilled to see how it looked. I took the Victorla in all broken up and he gave it back to me looking and working like new. If you have a piece of furniture that you really care about and you want a good job done on it, I would highly suggest that you take it to Abacus.
Description of Work: He took my Victrola and completely refurbished it. It had a knob on the front that my dog chewed off and he made another and replaced it. The knob looks exactly like the one on the other side. Also, 3 of the 4 legs were falling off and he re-attached them. The whole job was done beautifully. I am so happy to have my beautiful Victrola back and not worry about it falling over.

Description of Work: Mr. McBride repaired a chewed chair leg on a very expensive piece from Basset Furniture. It is as good as new. You would never even know that a puppy had a big time on this leg.  + -1 moreIt was a great pleasure to work with Mr. McBride. My mother gave me a rocking chair and plant stand that belonged to my great grandmother. It was falling apart but we wanted to see if it could be salvaged and refinished to keep it in the family. Mr. Mcbride gave us a quote on refinishing and stabilzing. He also told us it wasn't necessary to restain the rocker but he would do it if that is what we wanted. He said by the time he polished it up after stabilizing it would look great with the natural finish. He saved us over $200 and was correct. The chair was magnificent. The plant stand he explained to us wasn't a wood that could be stained. He stabilized it and showed me how I could paint it to save money. What a pleasure to work with this man. I will definitely call on him again.
