Mom's old treadle sewing machine table had seen better days. After many years of use it was stored in a less than optimal area and eventually it was shipped by boat to me in the US...I was shocked when I opened the crate and saw its sad condition. Mr. Mcbride took infinite care in restoring this piece of furniture back to its glorious self. It took several months of work - I was in no hurry - Mr. Mcbride painstakingly matched the veneer to replace what was gone or damaged beyond repair. The piece was completely refinished and varnished, Mr Mcbride cleaned the metal legs and repainted the machine's brand name (Large metal letters that are part of the base) and did unexpected things such as repair the broken pedal, make a little key to lock the little drawers and cabinet lid, and replace the drawer knobs - he also discovered that the machine was built on February 13, 1957. All I can say is that the work was done with care, dedication and love.
Description of Work: Mr. Mcbride restored an old sewing machine table. The table had water damage as ell as pieces of the wood veneer were missing...it was one big mess

The chair looks good and functions again. The joint should be stronger than when it was originally manufactured. To ensure they correct angle on the back, he had me bring in a matching chair. The job was finished on time and the communication was good. I will use him again if I have a need.
Description of Work: We had an expensive leather dining chair that had broken at the joint of the back with the seat. They were able to take the leather off, reinforce the joint and put it back together while sticking to the estimate.

Kenneth ordered the parts and notified me when they arrived. I delivered 5 chairs one day and I picked up the first 5 chairs and dropped off the second 5 chairs and was completely satisfied. The entire process from first talking with him to having the chairs back in our office took only 2 weeks.

I had two dining room chairs that had been damaged. One was severely damaged with two pieces cracked off of it. That chair had to be repaired, sanded down and refinished. Now that they are fixed you can't even see where the cracks were. The work was complete exactly as estimated, time-wise. I'd definitely use Abacus again.

Mr. McBride is a jewel. He is obviously very seasoned in furniture repair and restoration. I had an oak chair ( part of our dining set) that had a broken rung and he did a marvelous job of repairing it. On budget and on time.

I got the information about Abacus from Angie's List. Mr. Bride was pretty easy to get in touch with and good about returning calls. Bought him the small drawer unit and he explained how he would do the repair. Turns out we had to wait a few weeks till the claim for the repairs was resolved with the moving. When I explained this, and the repair was done very shortly after we got our check. Looks great!

I took the chair to the provider's Silver Chalice location for an estimate. During our discussion of the chair, its construction and what the provider thought should be done it seemed apparent that the provider was very knowledgeable and very much a craftsman. He said the work would be done in four weeks and it was ready after three. My wife and I were very pleased with his effort and do recommend him for similar work.

Estimate provided for cost and timing. Both were met. The chair broken arm was repaired with no trace of the break. The love seat was refinished and looks beautiful. Very professional in his relationship with me. I was impresses by his quality of work, by his meeting the time and cost estimates and his low key patient manner. I highly recommend him and would use him again in a heartbeat.

This is my second trip to Abacus, there will be more. The work is just the best and his prices are very fair. In this age of paper plates and plastic cups, Mr McBride is a craftsmen that can fix things 100 years old so that they last another 100 years. What more could you ask?

I took the two chairs to get an estimate and left the chairs for repair. Within 7 days they were ready for pickup. You couldn't tell which chair had major repairs and which one had required minor work. Both looked great, the price was good, and the provider was very professional. I would highly recommend Abacus and would use them again.

.I delivered the wardrobe to Kenneth and he gave me his estimate. I told him I was not in a rush since we were moving soon. He did not start on it until sometime in June and I picked it up on July 6. He did a great job making it much more structurally sound and removed the old varnish finish then applied oil. It turned out great, better than I expected

The first piece Kenneth restored was a chest of drawers with a small mirror frame thar pivots with a small drawer attached. This piece sits atop the chest. He had a few repairs to do but if he hadn't told us where they were, we would never have found them. The second piece was the bed. Kenneth had a little more repairing to do on this one. Again, we were unaware of the things that were broken or out of line, but looking at the completed piece, you would never know. The third and final piece was a big dresser and big mirror that attaches to the dresser top. This was the final piece and as it turned out, the most damaged one. As the years passed, different family members attempted to fix broken parts, but didn't do a very good job. Now this set looks brand new and the finish is exquisite. I'm anxious to get him started on a few more antiques I have. You will definitely NOT be disappointed in his craftsmanship. You definitely can say "You get what you pay for with Abacus Restoration".
Description of Work: Mr. McBride refinished and restored my Grandmother's childhood mahogany bedroom suite. He has extreme attention to detail. He truly respects the pieces he works on. If you love them before, you'll really cherish your furniture after you see it finished. My husband and I gave this bedroom set to our Granddaughter. It looks fabulous in her room and she is already in love with it.

.Kenneth McBride, owner, operator, cleanup man, receptionist. He is not the bookkeeper, that is his wife. He runs this operation out of his garage. He has retired from several other occupations and this was a hobby that he turned into a business. He has been doing furniture repair 20+ years. I don't think there is any kind of furniture repair that he cannot do; including custom built furniture. He is wonderful to deal with, Repaired the chair to exceed my expectations. I would not hesitate to recommend him to my friends and Angie's List subscribers

I spoke to Mr. McBride a couple of times over the phone about my grandfather's early 20th century roll top desk. He that said he had worked on a number of them before and could help me right away. I arranged for delivery of the desk and by the time I called to be sure that he had received it, he was already finished with the repairs. Mr. McBride had also gone to some to some trouble to locate me because the movers who delivered the desk did not give him any paperwork on me, the sender. He repaired it in a little over a day and returned some receipts and a camera lens to me that had been trapped in the back of a drawer. When I came to see the work, he gave me a tip about connecting the top to the bottom properly so the drawer locking mechanism would be functional when we got the desk home. Mr. McBride is very knowledgeable about furniture, very professional and performed excellent, timely work. I paid $150.00 and I will use him again.
Description of Work: Mr. McBride repaired my grandfather's early 20th century roll top desk that was not serving us well. The left side door was loose, the typewriter lift was not functional, and the drawers were not sliding well. He repaired the door and lift on the typewriter side, shaved down the center drawer that was sticking and replaced slides on the other drawers.

Outstanding experience!
Description of Work: I had two parson diningroom chairs in need of repair. One had a slightly loose leg and the other had two broken legs which were bent back quite a bit where they connect to the chair. Also, an office chair had a castor which had loosened, then come through the side of the chair leg before coming completely off. Mr. McBride repaired all 3 chairs very quickly. They are now stable and back in use. His repairs appear to be quality work -- strong and invisible. I'm thrilled with the results and will spread the word about his business. On a personal level, Mr. McBride is very professional, well organized, and a pleasant person to do business with. It's rare to find someone today who is knowledgable as well as honest and fair. He's well worth going out of your way to make sure that your furniture is properly repaired at a fair price.

Both times we've used Kenneth's services, the work exceed our expectation and was great quality work. The work was performed at his shop/home.
Description of Work: We've used Kenneth's services twice. The first time was to repair our antique dining room table that was damaged during shipping. The damage to the table consisted: 1) the table leg could no longer be attached to the table; and 2) the stabilizer bar at the bottom of the table was damaged and unable to connect to the table legs. Kenneth's repairs exceed our expectation and was of great quality work. So we went back to him again to repair one of the dining room chairs. Again the service was great. The work was performed at his shop/home.
