This is the second time we have used this company. They were so good the first time, we used them again. They moved us on a rainy day and made sure the floors/carpets were protected. They wrapped all furniture very well, making sure to protect glass with extra care. If they saw a flaw in what they were wrapping they would bring it to our attention before they wrapped it. They were extremely accommodating, making sure that all furniture was placed where we wanted it, even moving it several times because I changed my mind! Communication before and during the move was excellent, constantly making sure all was going well. We highly recommend this company. They are reliable and careful and competitively priced. Thanks guy!

I had no problem with the mover he was very professional, respectful and did a great job. The guy that came out to give the estimate was very nice as well. Until the actual move and then it took 1 month to get all of our things. I was moving from Texas to Boston and he assumed I didn't need the belongings and they were put into storage without getting a phone call to confirm with me if I needed the belongings. Melvin who was the salesman told me exactly what I wanted to hear promised me the truck would be on the road by a certain date and when I called a few days after that date the truck still hadn't left their warehouse. I signed one contract, but when I got the final contract there was an additional $500 charge because Melvin told me they would not be able to get the 18wheeler in the apartment complex and our things would have to be moved to a smaller truck in order to fit in the apartment complex, but when we went outside the 18wheeler was on the side of the building. When I asked him about it he said the additional charge was because the movers had to walk from the truck to the apartment building. The walk was literally 20 steps from front door to the truck. They agreed to refund $300 of the $500 after calling and requesting refund. The truck was in storage nearly one month which had all of my daughters work clothes, which led to extra expenses on my part. New work clothes had to be purchased for a month's time and I had to pay an extra month of storage that was not needed. The movers themselves were excellent very professional, friendly and respectful. My grade is not based on their work, but my interaction with the company itself.

Member, we are at a loss with your statement here. Melvin met with you at your home and did a survey with you. You stated that you needed the items picked up quickly, because you and your daughter were going on a roadtrip. Melvin told you the shipment could be picked up between 8th-10th of December. He told you that we had just gotten back from a Boston trip and would not be going there for awhile, but we would keep you updated. You told him it could be delivered any time. You told Melvin that it was going to a storage unit and to let you know when it would be delivered so that your husband could drive from NY to Boston to meet the truck and just let you know. You also told the driver the same thing when he picked your items up, that it was all going to storage and there was no rush. They told you it would be a few weeks before we would even be heading back to Boston because we were also heading into the Christmas holidays and we bring all of our crews home for the holidays. You said it was your daughter's 1-bedroom apartment items and there was no rush. We had no idea you wanted or needed your daughter's clothing until you asked for a reimbursement for it. The extra fee was not for a shuttle fee, but for extra labor, which we refunded $300.00. You were not charged a fee for picking up the items in Houston when we did not have a truck going to your destination and you weren't charged for storage in Houston. We delivered in Boston within 30 days, as was told to you from the beginning. We accommodated your shipment even though it was at a loss to us. Better Tripp worked with me on short notice to schedule moving items from Texas to New Mexico. They were punctual, professional and honest. Items moved included mostly furniture. All items were wrapped, protected and carefully loaded. Nothing was damaged and they were able to split the delivery between two destinations for a minimal charge. The hardware from one desk unit ended up in the wrong location, but other than that minor inconvenience everything went very well.
Description of Work: Moved household items including wrapping furniture but not packing boxes.

Salesman, Allen was punctual and very professional when he came to my home to give me an estimated bid of what it would cost for my move. The bid estimate was emailed to me the next day and Allen followed up with a telephone call to see if I had any questions. I had four other bids and some were cheaper and some where more expensive. I chose A Better Tripp as I felt most comfortable with them and felt they gave me a fair bid estimate. As good as Allen was it absolutely was not as good as Jose Ruiz and his crew. Jose and his crew were absolutely wonderful to work with as they were fast, courteous, professional and took great pride in making sure nothing was damaged and nothing was. The load up started with Jose being about an hour late but Allen had called to tell me Jose was on his way (Houston traffic is unpredictable). Jose did show up and I was surprised when he showed up with an 18 wheeler as I thought they were coming in 2 26 ft. trucks but that was ok as the 18 wheeler had more space to load my stuff. It took Jose about 5 hours to load me up with four guys. GREAT JOB!! Jose then told me he would meet me at 8 am the next day to unload at my new address. He was right on time the next day and proceed to protect wrap the doors they would be entering in and out of. I must say Jose and his crew were careful not to hit any walls or casings and assembled everything back together again and placed everything where we wanted it. It took Jose about 6 hours to unload as there are only 3 guys on the unload. Every class act to follow and was extremely satisfied with my total experience using A Better Tripp moving company. My daughter was moving locally the day before we did and she also stated she had the same experience in service that we did from A Better Tripp company. So 2 home runs to them!!

They moved everything without damage, but it was on the more expensive side. I would recommend people to get an estimate upfront. If I was moving out of state, I might consider them again.

In the moving business, we follow the cycle of the real estate business. Closings generally happen at the middle of the month and the end of the month. Leases follow the same pattern. When booking a move, please call a couple of weeks in advance. When calling a day or 2 before you want to move and it falls within these perimeters, we cannot accommodate any other business, as we have already been booked for several days or weeks even. Movers arrived on time, friendly and professional, introducing each team member and shaking hands. In the beginning they carefully disassembled tables and desks, wrapped each piece of furniture carefully, and worked rapidly. I could not believe how much they could pack in such a short time. However, near the end of the move, they loaded six white-painted book cases into the truck all touching each other, no padding or blankets separating them, leaving them to bang against each other during the trip. We had planned carefully, having measured all spaces in the new smaller home, and everything went into place quickly at the new home. They required a bit of assistance from my husband when disassembling and reassembling the tables and desks, but that is to be expected, it was the first time they had seen that furniture and each piece is different. I thought we were all done after they unloaded the furniture and reassembled the tables and desks. However, the crew then spent about an hour sitting around doing nothing, while a couple of the crew members folded up blankets in the back of the truck, costing us another hour's charges. I have moved numerous times in my life, and I would say overall they were one of the best crews I have used, professional and skilled and polite, and overall we were very pleased with the move except for the issues with the book cases and the wasted final hour. My true reason, however, for not calling them for an upcoming move was the tone of the replies from their management to people on Angie's List who wrote less than flattering reviews. The management's unprofessional responses convinced me that these were people I did not want to cross, ever. We went with another mover for our upcoming move.
Description of Work: Moved large furniture and boxes from a 1 1/2 story house to a smaller one-story house. They nicely packed up a plate glass top to a metal coffee table, and a large over-the-fireplace print.

Along with this are also the safety issues that go along with the moving truck, i.e., ramps, blankets folded and put away and paperwork. We do apologize for the bookcases not being covered. Tripp was superb at every step of the process. We attempted to get quotes from 4 providers. Tripp was the lowest cost among the 3 that submitted quotes (one never followed up). They communicated very well for several weeks before the move. 2 days before the move, William the operations manager, gave us his cell phone number to contact if any issues arose. The packing/loading team did their work in 2 days. Very good care of all furniture and goods. Only one item arrived broken (a crack in a cheap plaster urn), and there were no scratches added to any furniture. We were concerned about breakage because we had some very delicate items but they promised they would arrive in tact and they were right. The team worked efficiently and were very friendly and respectful. They asked questions when needed. They took very good care of the house as they moved very heavy furniture from the second floor to the ground floor. The head mover / driver - Mike - was fantastic. He gave us an idea of what to expect and when he would arrive each day in Houston and in Florida, and he was on time every time. The goods were delivered 3 days after they were loaded. The delivering team - still Mike but with 3 different, local helpers - also were prompt, careful, and very friendly. They got everything unloaded in one day and filled the 4200 square foot house. They also moved some furniture that we asked the sellers of the new house to leave behind for us. They wrapped items meticulously - as we discovered as we needed to unwrap each item. They treated our furniture and goods as though they were caring for their own possessions. We will definitely want to use Tripp again for any future moves

I spoke to a female (didn't catch her name) who said the guy (forgot his name already, too) doing the quotes was on his way out to lunch and could he call me back when he returned. I was amenable to that and left my name, number, and some details on the move. I never heard back and it is currently 12 days later. I wouldn't use this company at this point even if they called back with the best rates.

Not knowing who you talked with or who she referred you to is a little like finding a needle in a haystack. However, Sharon, who normally answers our phones, does keep a log of incoming calls. Her log says she referred you to Melvin, who yes, was out of the office. Melvin's log says he called you at 2:15 p.m. the very same day. Perhaps you didn't recognize his number because he called from his cell phone. He said that yes he did leave a message, but your phone's message does not say your name. This may not be a perfect system, but we do try our best. We do advise our Angie's Members to call back a second time if we haven't talked with you within 24 hours. The salespeople are talking with other clients, doing home estimates, etc., etc., but they do try to return each phone call - perhaps playing phone tag for awhile. We do have a tremendous amount of repeat and referral clients because we do strive for great service and ongoing repoire with our clients. In February 2014, I discussed our move with Melvin, which was confirmed in March 2014. At that time, we were told that A Better Tripp would need around a week-long time period to pick-up our items, but that we would be told before our move more specific dates such that we could plan our move. In May 2014, I spoke to Melvin via telephone regarding the dates of our move and Melvin confirmed that the pick-up would take place between May 19 ? 21. After this call A Better Tripp sent a moving contract that I executed and returned. Based on these representations, we planned our move for this period (including flying back to our previous city to supervise the move. However, two days before the move was set to occur, A Better Tripp informed me that they can no longer perform the move on the guaranteed days and said ?there was not a screw up on your end, there was a mis-communication on our side.? Melvin and William (the Operations Manager) were unapologetic and simply informed us that the move would now have to occur on a later date. Following that conversation, we were abruptly informed that A Better Tripp would no longer be performing our move in accordance with our executed contract. We were forced to scramble to find a new moving company for a cross-country move over night. A Better Tripp refused to perform the move or reimburse us for the added expense. Along the way, Melvin, William, Linda and the owner were all extremely rude to my wife and me. I would warn everyone against setting up a cross-country move with this company. [UPDATE]: IT IS CLEAR THAT THE OWNER OF THE COMPANY, IN HIS RESPONSE BELOW, IS BEING TOLD INCORRECT INFORMATION FROM HIS EMPLOYEES. THE RESPONSE PROVIDED BELOW IS MISLEADING AND FACTUALLY INCORRECT. BEWARE OF ANY INFORMATION TOLD TO YOU OVER THE PHONE FROM THIS COMPANY.

Member has no merit to his complaint. We did not perform any moving or storage services to this member. Bottom line is that he and his wife changed their dates, which we could not accommodate. They were notified of such. Member insisted that he have his demands met and our response was that he should contact another service to abide by his demands. We appreciate all of our Angie's List Members and have many outstanding reviews for many years due to our performance and service. Thank you. David Tripp President/Owner A Better Tripp Moving & Storage 713-266-8348 A more in-depth explanation: Moving Consultant, Melvin Parker, received an email from Member requesting a small shipment to be picked up in Chicago and delivered to the Houston area around the end of May. He quoted him a price for the shipment, with no dates guaranteed, because he wanted the least expensive, “at our convenience” for pickup and delivery. The contract was sent to him with no dates for pickup or delivery. He was fine with that and he returned the contract signed with his signature. Weeks prior to the move, Member called wanting a pickup date. He was told him we did not have a date, the truck was being scheduled with 12-14 shipments on it and once the driver began the trip, he would call him and tell him a pickup date and time. It would be somewhere towards the end of May. Then on May 14th, Member’s spouse called and wanted to change the dates to earlier in May. Melvin told her he would check with dispatch, which he did. Melvin called her back and told her that we were sorry, and we would do our best to try to get a truck there earlier than originally planned, but we were going to the East Coast first with several shipments to be delivered and then drive to Chicago. Then, 2 days later, on May 16th, Member’s spouse called and asked if Melvin knew what day the driver would be there – Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday. Melvin told her that he didn’t even know we would be there that soon because we didn’t have any set date. Then Member called asking exactly the same thing and demanding that the truck needed to be there one of those preferred days. Once again, Melvin explained that the truck was going to the East Coast first and was not going to be there on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday. Member demanded that we reroute our truck to come to him first. Melvin explained that was not possible. Member continued to call different staff members to get his preferred dates. At that point, Melvin told him that we would be happy to cancel his shipment completely and he could contact another mover and perhaps get his desired dates accommodated. He was one of many scheduled pickups and did not have a dedicated truck for his shipment only. Over 2 months they knew the estimated date and then wanted to change them. We did not move this client. He was told that we were canceling his move due to the fact that we could not accommodate his moving dates. He did not put down a deposit; therefore, nothing would be refunded. When the shipment is "at our convenience" and no specific dates are dedicated to the shipment by us (not the customer), we are not contracted to do anything further.

I initially sent an email requesting a quote for a move upcoming in September between states. I received a prompt auto-reply response to call Melvin the next day. To to be further instructed to make contact via phone should have been the red flag. But I complied and called. I was advised he would return my call. He called and left a message. I called back after lunch leaving my name and number and he never called back again. Fast-forward 2 weeks, Aug 14th. I call again asking for a quote. I describe my belongings, I only have a small 1 bedroom so pretty easy right? Renee ( I hoped I spelled her name correctly) advised me she would work on this and send me an email within a day or two along with names of OTHER MOVING COMPANIES as their prices might be a little on the expensive side. Well. Today is Aug 28th. No email. No phone call. It would have been nice to at least received a response with a follow up call to tell me the price or to say something. It is my money and they are a business. Let me make the choice. I am sure when they work, they work well. In the end I decided I will not hunt down a company to give them my money. I guess it is a good thing they are on the demand side of being so busy that they can elect what work they accept and don't accept. The reviews on Angie's had me excited to use this company, however that has now changed.

Prompt auto-reply is what all of our “on-line quotes” receive right away. There is no “red flag” – We are different from other moving companies in that we do a thorough checklist of questions to get as much information as possible. We want to talk with every one of our clients. Every single move, large or small, is different; as is each client. We are unlike UPS or FedEx, we do not just arrive, put shipment or the truck and leave. There are a lot of details we need to discuss. In this case, Melvin did make several attempts to call the Member, from his cell phone and office but to no avail. Yes, we are very busy and we stay busy due to the amazing responses we get from our Angie’s Members and our other repeat and referral clients. And yes, we do have the right to accept or not accept business. All Members have access to our contact information from our receptionist (office, cell & email). When I, Renee, talked with the client, I listened to what she has and told her we could not accommodate her dates. On small shipments, we book them at our convenience and we are booked already for the dates she wanted. I try to suggest that people call around or try uship.com or shipsmart.com for smaller shipments. In suggesting that, yes, it might save her some money. After it is determined that we have no availability, even though the client may want to use us, sometimes it just is not possible. I don’t know what else we can do. From start to finish, A Better Tripp Moving & Storage Company has been wonderful. From having Melvin out to our home to estimate a bid on a large, cross country move to Jose and his team packing us up to arrival of the truck at our new home and having Jose and his destination team unloading everything for us, it has been a very good experience. We used A Better Tripp twice before for much smaller jobs. Jose and his crew stayed until 8pm to help us unload and move furniture, including graciously moving our baby grand piano around multiple times to get the best orientation in our living room. Finally, we had no problems and the only thing damaged was a dvd/vhs player and the glass cracked on a framed picture. I went ahead and submitted a claim but explained we were very happy with the entire moving process. I had forgotten about our $500 deductible for any damages that may occur; however, I received a letter yesterday from Linda Fowler, Claims Manager, that they were going to honor our claim and paid the amount in full due to us being repeat customers. While I feel a bit embarrassed that I forgot about the deductible, Linda went above and beyond! I highly recommend A Better Tripp for any moving job, big or small. They even coordinated with their preferred car moving company to allow us to transport one of our vehicles safely and without any problems.
Description of Work: Honored a claim for minor damages totaling about 140 dollars despite us having a $500 deductible on claims for damages.

The first review was for the packers, who did an extremely good job. This is for the actual move. Same crew. Totally professional and very understanding of our worry and fatigue. These people double as counselors. Stop looking. This is your mover.

My representative, Nick, was great. He came to assess our old house and what amount of boxes we would need, and how large a truck was necessary. I received two pre-move calls from Nick's co-worker in charge of logistics ensuring that all was on schedule. The day of the move, the crew arrived on time, were very careful of our possessions, and did a great job carefully wrapping everything that was being moved, as well as protecting our old house's wood floors. At the new house, the crew's efficiency continued. I was most impressed with how well the members of the team worked together and how they seemed to enjoy their jobs! They treated our possessions like they were their own; with care and appreciation. Overall, I can't recommend Nick and his group highly enough--they are true professionals!!
