We're not happy with the service agreement we have been having with them. Our service agreement was for two years and we renewed this year but we got a surprise which was like $300 repair which just went out of warranty. I honestly think that the pricing is a little bit steep. I Googled all the parts and they were charging three times the amount for the parts. The gentleman who came out was very good, he was professional, he did the job right and he actually gave us some tips on how to maintain our air conditioning unit outside. He was really good, but I am not impressed with the service because when we make an appointment with them they show up early and wife is like if you're not ready for them she's going to jump through hooks to make things work. The only reason we stay with them is because they were the initial installers of the heating air conditioning unit and re-installation of larger ducts in the attic. We paid a lot of money but I told the salesperson, you reaped me off, I'll make sure the whole neighborhood does not use you. We went from like $450 a month on electricity bill, I couldn't believe it when my wife turned it to about $150 or $175 in the summer. So, they set us up right but two years down the road I am not happy with the service agreement. The service agreement takes care of the pre-summer preparations and the fall for the pre-winter operation of the heater which is fine but I'm not worried of the pricing of the service agreement, I am worried of the components because like I said he was there at home and he said all you need is the voltage regulator. He charged me three times for it. Their appointment scheduling is not very good.
Description of Work: They did the AC unit outside, they did the ventilation in the attic and they replaced the heating unit.

Lewisville AC & Heating was the company that installed 2 of our 3 heat pump systems approximately 2 years ago. The cost was $17,600 and included replacing the refrigerant line sets to the new condensers' location. About a year ago, Lewisville AC & Heating merged with Stark Services and Four Seasons. We decided to continue using them for our systems' annual maintenance even though we normally stay away from large service companies. We prepaid for the annual heating & cooling tune up for 3 systems. I had to call them on June 15 to schedule the cooling tune up even though it was prepaid. They claimed they were in the process of scheduling all their clients... The technician, Michael, arrived on time and performed the regular service. When he was finished, he had me sign the paperwork. This is where things started getting interesting: Michael suggested we have Start Assist Kits installed on both of the 2-year old units @ the discounted price of $261 each! He stated this would prolong the life of the compressors. If that's the case, why wasn't this installed (or suggested) when Lewisville AC & Heating put in our new systems 2 years ago? He also informed me it would be a good idea to replace the weak blower capacitor on the older system with a new "premium" capacitor for only $181. I told him "no thank you". I also got a call the next day by a sales person asking me if I wanted to have the Start Assist Kits installed. It was pretty clear to me that Stark Services uses their maintenance contracts as a way to bluntly sell other services to existing customers. Approximately an hour after the technician left, I noticed the house downstairs was getting stuffy and warm. Warm air was coming out of the vents. I checked the thermostat and it was on HOLD at 63 degrees. The inside temperature was 79 degrees. Clearly the A/C wasn't working. I went outside to check the heat pump and noticed that the pull-out fuse-block was on top of the circuit breaker box and the box was left open! I put the block back in and the compressor came on. In addition to leaving the circuit breaker off, the technician also left all 3 thermostats on HOLD at 63 degrees - the setting he used to check the equipment. The programmed setting on our thermostats is 76 degrees for A/C. He also left the lights on in every room and doors to the outside either open and/or unlocked. I called the next day to have a supervisor come out and inspect his work as I was concerned about the quality of work this technician had performed. Clint came out and went though all the equipment and assured me everything looked good. He assured me Michael had done everything correctly and told me that "unfortunately, mistakes do happen" and he will use this incident as a training lesson for the staff! Was this supposed to inspire confidence and make me feel better? According to Clint, Michael has been working for Stark Services for 3 years. Today (Saturday), just 1 day after the regular maintenance call, one of our 2-year old systems will not turn on! Neither the air handler (blinking green/blue/red) or the heat pump are turning on. I called Stark Services at 8 am and they told me they couldn't send a technician until later in the day, between 10 am-1 pm. We are furious and extremely suspicious about this malfunction!!! We haven't had any problems whatsoever with this new equipment until Stark Services came out to perform the tune up. We're now waiting for the technician to arrive to diagnose the problem.

Response from Stark Services
Stark Services apologizes that this customer had an unsatisfactory experience and we resolved the second mechanical failure that the unit experienced at no charge. This call has been brought to the attention of our HVAC staff as we found a small process error made by the technician. We strive to make sure our customers are satisfied with their service but there are times that we make mistakes. With regards to our slow response, we had the issue resolved within 4 hours of the phone call. Unfortunately during the summer some of our time windows can run a bit longer than anticipated but we feel that 4 hours is reasonable.

They arrived on time and did a thorough job checking out my AC unit. They cleaned the coils on the outside unit and replaced a switch that was badly corroded. They also quoted me the cost of cleaning the coils on the inside unit and the blower fan, but I decided to pass on those services, mainly due to cost ($325 apiece). Overall I was pleased with their service and professionalism.

As long as J.P. remains with Stark Services, I will continue to request them through my home warranty company. He was prompt, professional, courteous, respected our home, and gave thorough explanation of the repairs that were completed. We had a gas leak that required the gas company to shut off our line until the leak was repaired. However, when the City Inspector came to verify the repair, he declared other items in our home (built in 2008) as not up to code or missing. As J.P. assisted me with understanding some of the items, we found that two of the items required by the Inspector were already in place, saving me money on having to call on other professionals as they were not all plumbing related. Great service, all-around. We recently noticed an issue with our zoned furnace, and I was so disappointed to find out that our home warranty service uses another company for heating and air. And, I truly wish I had just called Stark and paid out of pocket, because this other company is awful! We miss you, Stark Services and J.P.!! We hope we don't have to, but if we need you, we are calling you first!

First man that came out said there was no mechanical problem; said our toilet wasn't a good brand. (It's been in the house for over 7 years with no problems) Left. Stark was the company American Home Shield uses. I called Ernie's Plumbing, they came out - no service fee - found the problem in less than 5 minutes. Understood that AHS had already sent someone out and it would be best to call AHS and report problem. Would definitiely use Ernie's again,. I called AHS and reported this , they called Starks again, another man came out and fixed it; he also made comments about the toilet brand!

We are very sorry to see this experience. This was simply a mis-diagnosis by the initial plumber and as soon as we were made aware of a possible issue a manager was dispatched to resolve the issue. We are not always perfect but when we find an issue, we jump to resolve as quickly as possible and us it as a learning experience for the employee. We hope this customer will give us another chance in the future.

The technician did a great job and had us up and running within about an hour with parts he had on the truck. Due to the age of my units (2) I set up a quote on replacements. This is handled by the sales staff and not the service technicians. I am writing this review due to the sales quote process as simply a warning to always get a couple comparison quotes. The quote I received for two 3 ton units (Seer 16) along with new furnace and air handlers caused me to put everything on hold. The best i recall the quote was around $23,000 initially and I was then offered some discounts that would have brought it down to just above $20,000. I ended up waiting about 6 months or so and having 3 other companies quote replacements. I paid right at $13,000.00 at that time and had the option of several different brands of equipment. I went with Lennox, and one units compressor failed in 18 months, but that is a different matter. It may have been the wrong time of year, etc., but as Angie's list just mentioned that reviews were needed for this company I recalled that I never reviewed the company at the time. Things may have greatly changed as this was a couple years ago so I simply want to say get a couple estimates before you go with any one.
Description of Work: Responded to service call on air conditioner that had stopped working. As best i remember, it was in the high 90's or low 100's, as such, it took me a couple days to get them out on service call.

Stark Services regrets this customer had an unsatisfactory experience with our sales staff. Our pricing structure has changed in the 2.5 years since this quote was given so unfortunately it is difficult to go back and compare apples to apples. As a business we stay competitive with pricing since the market requires it even though we feel our quality of work is superior. We are not usually the priciest option in town but not the cheapest either. Our technicians are highly trained, background checked, drug screened and show up in well-marked vehicles. Our care for our replacement projects is second to none as we treat your home and family’s needs as if they were our own. Stark Services has been proudly serving the Dallas Metro area for 15 years and we welcome all future customers to allow us to prove we care with every repair!

They come out twice a year to check the A/C and the furnaces. They arrive on time, are very professional and do the job correctly. They fix things with our permission and inform us what problems or issues we need to be aware of for the future. Their prices are very reasonable, especially with the discounts and benefits of our maintenace policys that we have with them. We have never had any problems with them.

DON'T USE they will try and rip you off!!! We have 2 separate and self-contained 3-Ton A/C units. They are 19 years old. The first part of May we had Stark come out and do a Spring Check-up. During this visit they said we needed 2 capacitors (sp?) for $478, which we had them replace. Everything else was fine. In less than 2 weeks we had no A/C on the 2nd floor unit. We had them come out and they said we had a hole in our evaporator coil and it needed Freon. We ere also told the coil needed replaced but would cost $3,000 since the unit was old. The tech hard pushed that since the units were old it would be better to replace the units. He said we should consider having a Comfort Specialist come out and talk to us soon because the hole was larege enough we'd probably be in need of more Freon in a week. The specialist came out that Thursday and told us we needed to to replace both A/C units. He first said we had to replace both even tho the other one did not have a problem because you can't mix Freon with A410 coolant. When pressed about them being separate units he then said we could but because the newer system would be more efficient the CFMs it pushed would be greater and cause the other unit to go bad in a month or so. He continually hard pushed that replacing both units had to be done. The quote he gave us to replace both 3-ton HVAC complete systems with a 14 SEER Bryant was $18,500 but with a 15% discount it would cost $16,100. He said if I waited I'd loss the discount. I opted to get 2 more quotes. What I found out was that the Stark tech, when he performed the Spring Checkup didn't put the cap back on correctly and that is what caused the Freon to leak out. What we also was informed by both companies was that there is no reason whatsoever that we couldn't replace one unit and instead of both because they are separate independent units. We opted to go ahead and replace the upstairs unit as it has struggled to cool the last couple of years and our electric bills have been very high. The cost to replace the complete upstairs HVAC system with a TRANE 16 SEER high efficiency variable speed blower is only $6,300. BOTTOMLINE: We are getting a TRANE 16 SEER HE Variable speed blower complete HVAC system for $1,700 less than the "discounted" cost of $8,050 14 SEER system from Stark. We could have went with the TRANE 14 SEER and saved almost $2,500 but felt this was the way to go. I WILL NEVER CALL STARK AGAIN AND NEITHER SHOULD YOU!

Stark claimed that legally they had to shut off the unit, however a further opinion showed this only to be a sales tactic. We opted for a second opinion on the condition of the existing equipment (which had been operating fine that morning) and called Southern Comfort Mechanical. They assessed the units and agreed that there were some items that should be corrected, but did not require the units to be shut off. They helped us restart them (which took extra work, as Stark disconnected wires inside the blower unit to ensure we could not restart the system ourselves) and walked us through what would only be $1500 in repairs to get the units up to code and fully operational. We later found out that Stark claimed to be "legally required" to shut off our friend's unit as well. It seems to be a scare sales tactic to pressure people to replace units during weather extremes. It was over 100 degrees outside when they shut off our friends unit, making them desperate for a quick fix. We were contacted by Southern Comfort Mechanical roughly 2 weeks after they had completed the work on our house. Apparently, Stark Air had seen the service trucks at our house and investigated with the city to see if a permit had been pulled (replacing an entire unit requires city permitting). Since Southern Comfort Mechanical was able to fix our system without a complete system replacement, no permit was required, and thus nothing was pulled. Stark then reported Southern Comfort to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, accusing Southern Comfort of working without a permit, trying to get the company in trouble with the State. TDLR investigated and found nothing to be wrong. Stark maliciously went after another company because they did not receive the sale on this project. Beware of Stark. If they try to shut off your system, be sure to get a second opinion. I would recommend Southern Comfort Mechanical any day.
Description of Work: A friend provided Stark as a referral for regular equipment maintenance. We recently purchased an older home and wanted to ensure the equipment was running as efficiently as possible. When we called out a service technician, he took the furnace apart then reported that it wasn't safe to operate and legally had to shut off the unit. He said a sales rep could provide additional information on what needed to be corrected. We pushed them to get a rep out that morning because of the cold weather (high 35, low 23). Later that morning, the sales rep came out and completed an estimate for the complete replacement of our older (22 year old) system. The sales rep was pleasant, walked us through his analysis of the house and the different options available, ranging from $9K - $11K.
