+ 0 moreUsing my wire and cutting pliers, he was able to "sew" the screen back together. However, checking around the chimney while he was waiting, he found a critter had torn a hole next to the chimney in the roof, so I had a hole. My wife and I had heard noises in the attic off and on for about a week, but we thought it might be just on the roof. He said he could patch the hole temporarily if I had some sheet metal. I did, plus hammer and roofing nails, so he patched it. He said he would have to send out his roof guy to give me an estimate on a permanent fix. All he charged me was $50 for an emergency fix. As far as I'm concerned, it was well worth it.
Description of Work: I've had back problems since 10/10. A doctor told me it was muscle spasms due to probably an item I lifted that was too heavy. The medication he prescribed worked off and on, however, by January it seemed to get worse. I tried keeping up with yard work but it got worse and worse as time went on. In March I had to go to the ER 2 days in a row for severe pain. The doctors recommended I see a Spine Surgeon. After visiting a Spine Surgeon who determined I needed back surgery, , I tried to mow lawn and tidy up, but as I hadn't been in the back yard for months, and saw it was almost a jungle, I hired Jacob's Lawn Service, I found on Angie's List. On May 17 I had lower lumbar back surgery and haven't ventured into the back yard except to check any growth. Last week, I went in back and happened to look up and saw a tree limb was touching the chimney. I noticed a critter had pried part of the wire screen away from the chimney cap. I searched Angie's again, and called Tree Guys of Texas and Y's Guys Handyman Service for estimates. Mike from Tree Guys of Texas gave me an estimate on 07/17, and said he could do the work on 07/23. (I'll review him later). Doug, from Y's Guys Handyman Service came on 07/20 to give me an estimate on repairing the screen around the chimney cap. As he was there for just an estimate, he hadn't brought tools nor parts, so when climbing on the roof to inspect the chimney, he asked if I had thin gage wire and pliers, as he felt he could repair it as there was no damage except pulling away from the enclosure.

+ -1 moreDoug and crew did an excellent job, were on time, professional, and the price was fair. I highly recommend them for this type of job but he told us they also do many other types of odd jobs so I will call on them again if anything comes up in the future for sure. Highly recommended.
Description of Work: We needed someone to pour a 10 by 12 foot concrete slab for a new hot tub in our back yard. I called several other concrete pourers listed on Angie's list and very few bothered to even call me back. Most of the ones who did bother said the job was "too small" for them but Doug Young responded promptly and was glad to do the job for us.

+ -1 moreI called and spoke to the owner and he said they did that type of work, would drive by and provide an estimate and if accepted remove the gutters the same day. He said he would call me back. I have yet to hear from him again and I believe they did drive by and sit in front on my house on Tuesday (the day after I called), but never came to the door or called. I felt like my job wasn't big enough for them or something. Sadly after looking at their website I was really looking forward to meeting and talking to him again. We have a lot of remodeling to do in our house and I was hoping to talk to him about that also. His website showed beautiful work, but someone else will get the jobs now. Very disappointed after all the excellent reviews I read.
Description of Work: I needed gutters removed after the recent storms, they are hanging off the back of our house.

+ -1 moreThe porch looks pretty nice. We used hardy board and they did a good job on that. I wasn’t real thrilled when they painted my back door. I can still see through the paint a little bit. But I didn’t say anything to them. I didn’t insist on doing a second coat or anything. We liked the job that they did on the back porch. They also recommended someone that would do gutters. I felt that the price was good. The quality wasn’t that good on the extra things that I asked him to do. They were easy to work with and really pleasant people.
Description of Work: We used Y'sGuys Handyman Repair to repair our back porch because the walls were rotting from the rain and stuff.

+ 1 moreHe does a good job, but he is more like an organizer. He has like 8 or 9 people he calls in to do different jobs. He is very professional and supervises the work of the people he brings in to do the jobs. There have been times where something has seemed to work at first, then later turned out it did not, but that is more of the guys who were doing the work than him.
Description of Work: I have a leak between the house and the slab it is built on that needs to be sealed. Because of the placement of the leak it requires regrating a path that goes along the side of the house and then recovering it. He is also going to try to fix some gutter covers to prevent leaves from going in the gutters. In the past he has fixed a cabinet that has rotted out.

I thought I needed to replace the back door and Doug took a look at it and determined we could repair it for cheaper than to replace it. Everything Doug fixed looks great and I will be having him back out again to do a final make ready for the place. Doug arrived on time and complete the jobs quickly and professionally.

+ 0 moreDoug arrived at the time he had indicated and reviewed the situation carefully before beginning. He began to work on it knowing that it was a bad situation to have an outside door that didn't lock as anyone could get into the house. It took about 1.5 hours but he was able to shift the door around the hinges enough to get the door to lock. He provided a quote for some of the other options to completely fix the door. So I don't have to worry about anyone kicking in the door. I would use Doug again. I haven't had the options done yet as it's a bit pricey and I'll need to save the money first.
Description of Work: A shift in the foundation made it difficult to close and lock a door to the outside. Doug was able to get it to lock for me until we could address the other options for completely fixing the door. He had to try to shift the door abit in order to get it to lock.

+ 3 moreDoug calls to let us know when he is coming to make sure it is convenient. He gives us written estimates so we know what to expect. He is reasonably priced. He works efficiently and cleans up after himself. Can't think of anything else I'd like in a handyman service!
Description of Work: We found Y's Guys name on Angie's list and gave Doug a call. We have had numerous handyman jobs to be done since we moved in our house in December 2010 and have called on Doug over and over again. He responds quickly, is professional, is reasonably priced, and does what he says he can do. He calls other professionals as appropriate (master electricians, etc.). He is pleasant and hard working. He was able to save our Andersen sliding doors by repairing the rotted areas that had formed on the bottom due to water damage, thus saving us buying new doors that would have cost us thousands of dollars! Doug has installed lights for us, repaired some deck work, replaced wood around our garage doors, fixed a pull down attic ladder, removed a really old and heavy ceiling fan installed a new one, installed door handles/hardware, and is currently in the process of replacing 2 rotted windows among other things! I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him.

+ 0 moreI contacted them for an estimate on screening in my front patio. Doug was able to meet meet right away at the house and I told him what I was looking for. The porch is stucco with arches, he said he wasn't sure how to do that, so I agreed to send him information on screening I had seen completed in Florida that was put into arches. He said he would check with his suppliers and let me know what options he could offer to me. I sent him links for several websites that same day, but received no acknowledgement back. I sent another email about 10 days later asking about status for my estimate and got no response. I was out of town for another week, when I returned I called Doug and asked about status and he didn't come right out and say it, but basically he hadn't done any research for me. He had no estimate and apparently no interest in doing the job. I have no problem with that, but why didn't he just tell me that up front. If you are a handyman that is not capable of completing certain jobs, it is best to let the customer know that upfront instead of wasting my time. He was trying to sell me on adding gutters and pointing out wood rot when he was at my house, instead of focusing on what I wanted done. Total lack of professionalism, obviously would never recomend him.

From what I could see and granted I am not a handyperson but the opening was there already, no painting required (he said the total included the door, painting and two guys) as far as I could tell. Way to pricey for me.

+ 1 moreArrived 2 hours after I called. Doug looked at my completely misaligned gate latches and told me it would cost $50 to realign them. When I asked for a date, he said he could do the job right there and then. After he was done, I asked about the gutter down-spouts which are supposed to go back under the eaves, down the wall, and then spout out over the concrete apron of the house - they'd been lying in pieces, beside the house for several years. For an extra $25 he put them back together and strapped then to the wall. I am very happy with the prompt and friendly service and the price.
Description of Work: Repaired front and back gate latches. Reassembled two roof gutter down-spouts and strapped them to the wall.

+ 0 moreDoug Young installed one bathroom wall mounted light fixture, he had his painting sub repair the drywall and paint in the bathroom. Doug was speedy & did good work on the fixture once the wall was repaired. The painting sub left a mess we had to clean up on our own (dry wall putty on marble counter & splatters on wall). Doug also did a quick job installing a large dining room light fixture - would have him install lights again. We also used him to install a new solid wood door between our garage & laundry room. The new door wasn't measured before they tried to install it wouldn't fit correctly. After arguing that a misfit door was not okay with us - had to wait a while for the correct door to be found before it could be installed. Painting sub contractor did the door staining and besides being a llittle uneven in color - they were quick. I wouldn't use Y Guys again for door or painting work, as the painting sub-countractor doesn't seem to be as good. However, I would use again for light fixtures. Doug is professional, and tried to work around our busy schedule as best he could. Overall, I thought the jobs just took too long to finish - 3 weeks for the 3 jobs (1 door & 2 light fixtures).
Description of Work: 1 Solid Wood door installed & stained. 1 Bathroom fixture installed & wall around fixture repaired. 1 Dining room light installed. Price did not include the fixtures - I purchased them on my own.
