J Davis Tree Care Solutions

We have almost two dozen trees on our lot and we'd been having trouble with our little gem magnolias looking sick, a wierd bug thing on a crepe myrtle, and savannah hollies that were looking a little peaked. I found an ad for J Davis Tree Care Solutions in the Angie's List Best of Contractors magazine. I called the company and found them to be prompt, warm, and professional. Mr. Davis came out to our property today (exactly on time) and I explained the history of our trees and the trouble we seemed to be having. We walked tree by tree and he explained what was wrong with each one (overwatering, hatcheting the trunks to death with the weedeater.) He said we needed to mulch around the trees and lay off with the weedeater. The crepe myrtle has scale, which he said we could clear up by spraying it with soapy water. I asked his advice about pruning, best times to plant, watering, etc. He was extremely patient and thorough while I wrote his answers down. When I was finished with my questions, I thanked him and said "What do I owe you?" He answered, "Nothing. Just call me when you're ready to prune that live oak." (It's a little young for now, he said.) Wow! I'm completely impressed and will not hesitate to call this company again for our future tree needs. I would highly recommend this company to anyone in need of tree service.

I got an estimate from this company and they said they would give me a call back in a week or less to setup when to come out to perform the work. I never heard from them. I called them to see what was the issue and they said they would look into it and call me back. Again, never heard back from them. I called a second time a few days later to see what was the problem and they would look into it and call me back. Finally, I got a call back claiming they were dailing the wrong phone number. I was dissappointed being this company had a good rating.

I called their office and immediately got an answer from an operator who scheduled an appointment for an estimate for a couple days later within a two hour range. On the day of the appointment the arborist showed up within minutes of that scheduled time range. Estimate was done quickly with an availability of when worked could be done and duration. Called back to schedule actual work date with an hour range of start time. On the actual work day the crew showed up closer to the end of the scheduled hour and finished about an hour over schedule. Arborist came by during the job to check on progress and apologized for later start. Crew showed skill in performing work, were serious throughout and was impressed by their diligence and attention to the job at hand. After looking over work done I felt service exceeded my expectations.

I asked that the estimate be left below my front door mat and it was. It was a detailed estimate to trim both trees including the work that would be done. However, their bid was more than $200. over 2 other bids I also requested so I choose not to use their service. Several days later I received a postcard from them thanking me for the opportunity to bid their services.

Their price was reasonable. They are always on time and they clean up everything very well. I will use them again in the future.

They come here and do the job even if I am not here. They are excellent to work with. We had a lightning fire some years back and the contractors who worked on my house threw chemicals right on my trees. There were about 26 trees. I tried for several months to get other companies to come out. Nobody showed up and these people came right away when I called them.

J Davis was recommended be Weston Gardens, Redentas, and our organic consultant Ms. Linda. Keith the arborist was very informative. He was willing to try to extend the life of our American elm which my wife could not bear to see Taken down. Kelly and crew did an excellent job with the trimming and Left the yard cleaner than when they started with extensive raking by the 4 man crew. Randy came out and aerated/injected/fertilized all of my trees. He also redid a cable and improved the root flares and mulched. All of the men were hard working with many years of experience. My elderly 80 year old parents in law also had an excellent experience With j Davis doing about $500 of trimming on 2 live oaks, And several other trees. Grandaddy and grandmommy had a lot of pecans on There tree so Keith even agreed to come back and trim after the harvest this fall!

It was a great experience. They showed up on time. Did a clean and safe job.

I didn't have the funds to do the job at the time, but knew I would have the funds in April when a bonus was received. I was just trying to get a quote, to budget the work. I called J Davis Tree Service on the recommendation of my neighbor, who'd used them on two previous properties he'd owned. The owner's son came out to bid the job and arrived punctually and was quite pleasant and informative, without being pushy or patronizing; tree removal was quoted at about $600 ($300 per tree) plus a little more to grind down the stumps. The additional amount I paid was for trimming out and thinning the rest of my trees. Since it was the winter season and work was slow, he offered, without my asking, to do the work TODAY and split the job into three equal payments, no interest, no credit app, just handled in house. That was still beyond my budget for this month, and he offered to split it into five equal payments. That was just too good to pass up. He wouldn't even accept a check from me... wanted the work done first. I had a crew onsite in two hours, trees down in another 60 minutes, hauled out within 2 hours after job start, and all work completed, trees trimmed, and yard cleaned up 4 hours after the crew showed up. These guys HUSTLED and worked hard. I ordered pizza for their lunch as a thank you--they earned it! An hour after they left, the guy with the stump grinder showed up and did his thing, and I paid 1/5th of the total bill, $371.29, per our arrangement. I couldn't be happier with J Davis and their crew. The only reason I rated a "B" on professionalism was their flyers said their crews were "non-smoking"--yet their crew lead did smoke in my backyard. The others did not. I would definitely use their services again or recommend them to Angie's List members.

They came out exactly when they said that they were going too. I thought that it was too expensive for the work that they did. They did a good job.

I contacted this company for a bid and they didn't even have the courtesy to call back or email. other reviews showed them to be expensive I saw later.

Excellent experience. I have used J Davis before and will continue to use them. I called on a Fri to get an estimate. Appt for estimate set for Mon. They called promptly on Mon to advise that estimator was ill. We set a new appt for Thurs AM. Estimator was prompt, courteous and knowledgeable. He said he would be glad to do the job that afternoon if it was convenient for me. The crew arrived promptly at 3:00 PM as scheduled. They worked quickly and efficiently. They have a giant shredder truck so they made quick work of disposal of wood and branches. They raked up all twigs and leaves. The gentleman who ground the stumps was there immediately after tree was removed. He ground the stumps below ground level then raked the mulch to even the ground and cover the bare spot left by tree removal. My trees look great. As a result two of my neighbors had J Davis trim their trees.

I have been pleased with the service that J. Davis Tree Care has been able to provide. Each winter they offer a discount plus a ten percent gift card for their work. All of the gentleman who work for J. Davis look like Trojans. I never have to worry about raking, because they do it when they do the tree service. I give them A's all the way.

First I must separate the professionalism of the work crew, which was excellent, with the professionalism of the administrative procedures, which were not. I was pleasantly surprised that a crew was able to respond to my request the same day as I knew that trees were downed and damaged all over the area. I did not ask for an estimate as I had dealt with J Davis before and trusted their work. When the crew arrived I showed the chief a J Davis advertising coffee cup that promised a 25.00 dinner certificate whenever the customer used their services again. The chief acknowledged the cup. When the crew finished the chief showed me a piece of plain paper with the amount of $535.00 written on it. I wrote him a check and they left. It dawned on me after they left that I did not receive an invoice or anything pertaining to the 25.00 certificate. That is and remains my fault. I called the office the next day and explained the situation and the very nice lady who took my call said she would take care of it. As of this writing I have not heard back from J. Davis. I have no intention of calling back. The work was done satisfactorily and it's just not that big of a deal to me. I would not hesitate to recommend J Davis to others, but with the caveat that they demand an invoice upon work completion and to take steps to insure that J Davis follows up with any and all rebates and advertising programs that may be applicable to your case at the time of job completion.

They gave good service. They were responsive and came over to the house the following day. In fact, they were early. They didn't trim the neighbor's hackberry tree the way I thought they would do it. It is still hanging over my property. They were kind of expensive. They knocked the price down when I told them about the other company that I had out there. The other tree service guy came with a better price, but the problem was with the neighbor's hackberry tree. It is not on our property and there is no access to that tree from our property. I didn't know how they were going to handle it. I thought I needed somebody with a cherry picker and the other guy didn't have a cherry picker, so that kind of decided it. If I do more tree work, I would go back to other guy who was less expensive.

We obtained 7 quotes to either trim or remove a Silver Maple. All "A" grade Angie's List companies agreed that the tree needed to come down as it was a hazard to the house, cars in high winds. Keith called me to check in and see if we had made a decision - something only one other company did. Because of the slow period, he was willing to negotiate off of his original price to guarantee a set price close to the company that we were inclined to use but could only estimate the stump grinding price. Once the price was agreed on, his crew was at our home within hours. They had the tree down, chipped and cleaned up the yard and driveway in about 1.5 hours. The stump grinder came later in the day, ground the stump and offered to either take away some of the ground stump or leave it as mulch. We chose to use it as mulch. The only small incident was that one of the flat stones was cracked in our front walkway. Because of the way that the walk is constructed with pebbles between the stones, it will barely be noticed. I was pleased though that I was informed that it had been cracked.

The crew showed up on time, and performed the work. Clean up was excellent. They asked me to check their work before they left. They also volunteered to take some other trimming away for me. Good job.

The big wind we had a few weeks ago partially destroyed a large Cedar-Elm in my backyard. It needed to be removed. Two other large trees, an Ash and a Live Oak needed trimming very badly. They are both beautiful trees, but were beginning to be a nuisance to my neighbor and a threat to my roof. Four or five large Crepe Myrtles in the front of the house made mowing the lawn an adventure and needed trimming badly. I studied Angie's list and called J. Davis. The person who answered was polite and helpful and told me that Tommy Middleton would be able to come out for an estimate at a given time and date in Early Feb 2008. He was there on time. I found him to be knowledgeable and I felt confident that he and his crews would be able to handle my job. He gave me an estimate of $1066. They did the job three days before the promised date. All work was professional. Clean up was superb. The price was the same as the estimate. Totally professional in all respects. I will use them again.

The work came in under budget. They did good work and I would use them again. They were very friendly, knew what they were doing. They were courteous and cleaned up well, and were careful with my home.

I'd called several companies before calling JDavis. Most companies (tree service or others) won't come out to the Azle area... and usually if they do... they have not been the most professional and usually don't have good references and their work suffers. Tommy from JDavis came out and did a quick assessment of my trees and we set up an appointment that day for 2 weeks out. They delayed one week because of their work schedule and I delayed the last week due to vacation. 4 guys showed up and immediately started to get to work. They didn't waste any time in getting the major culprit ready for removal. I'd also had some brush from this tree on the ground and they quickly loaded it up into the shredder. They worked nearly non stop only stopping for a couple of quick breaks and for lunch and they were right back at it again. They didn't slow down until they knew I was happy with the work they had done. The price is a little high but worth the cost as this is a dangerous job.

The rep was very nice--no problem and I am sure they would have done a good job but saw no point in paying almost twice what I had to--(and I probably paid more than I needed to for the company that actually did the work but the trees were close to the house/roof and we did not want any problems--did not want the wrong limbs to go down either...so this survey is basically just on the call to schedule and the estimating conference--no work was done...Would I hire them?--would call for estimate--and maybe let them know what the other bids were to see if they would reduce price in future jobs...I see their trucks in neighborhood--I like to use local companies...

Kelly and his crew of three did a great job. They were on time, worked very hard and carefully, and cleaned up as they went. Kelly even cut some small limbs from some neighbors' trees that were encroaching over my back fence, and at no extra charge. They were very professional and courteous.

We were very pleased with Davis's. They were on time and did a wonderful job. The man was pleasant, friendly and neat. He was also very tidy as he cleaned up all debris after the job was finished.

It went great (see above), and I would definitely hire them again. One thing I didn't like at all, though, was that shortly after the work was done I received an automated phone call from the company soliciting more business from me. I promptly called them to complain and they apologized, saying that they'd been getting a lot of such complaints and were rethinking whether to continue making such calls.

Scheduling was a problem. They never asked when it would be convenient for me. They came when I was not at home and removed a branch about 20 inches in diameter--the WRONG branch. The rest of the work was good. They did return to remove the correct branch, but the look of the tree is not good.
