The reason why I started my business in 1998 was due to the lack of good communication with the typical contractor I believe in creating a great plan, covering all the details we could possibly think of and detailing all that in line item pricing. Kitchens and bathrooms is my passion, but we also do the rest of your house too. I like projects that make people happy and where they enjoying spending most of their time.. We need you to do your part to communicate the items you are shopping for. Help us, help you detail your vision, so you know you will get what you're dreaming of. All of the work will be practically perfect. Tell me what you want to your specifications and I’m sure it’s possible. I’m a big fan of details.
Residential and Commercial remodeling since 1998. Over 42 years of total experience since 1982. Everything from the small handyman jobs to whole house remodel or commercial build out. Your on-site Contractor/Master Craftsman is also a certified building inspector so you will be sure to get everything to code standards or better. It's safe to say we always show up to our appointments and the everyday work. Consistent, reliable, meticulous both in service and quality craftsmanship. Veteran owned & operated.
If you are looking for the cheapest, aka low quality, contractor, I’m sure we are not it. We focus on high quality workmanship.
Carl is a detailed craftsman, who takes pride in his work. His attention to detail stood out in both the quote/review process and in the installation process. In addition to this, Carl was flexible with his time and committed to getting the job done to our satisfaction. Due to floor work that we were having done in the same room, we had a very tight schedule to get the trim work completed. To this end, Carl worked long hours on both Saturday and Sunday to complete the job prior to floor work starting on Monday. We are very happy with the finished product. And would highly recommend Craftsman Connection/Carl for any wood work enhancements/upgrades.
Description of Work: Hired Carl to trim out a wall of windows (6 windows, with total measurement of 18 feet by 10 feet). Second objective was to match new trim with window trim that already existed in an adjacent room.

It was a pleasure working for this couple, they were very nice to talk to and I felt welcomed into their home. To complete the trim work around the 6 tall windows and the 6 arched windows above them with custom made woodwork to match the arches, fluted casing on each side of every window, new continuous window sill, new crown moulding and carving new base trim to go on top of the flat base to match the old mouldings that were no longer available, I worked Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday to complete this project. It took about a day longer than I guessed, but I completed in time for the wood floor finish work. No matter how long it takes to do this one of a kind woodworking, I got great satisfaction to see the finished product. I look forward to working with this couple again. Turns out we have some acquaintances in common.

Mr. Pfeiffer came out to my house to look at work I wanted done. At the top of my list was replacing the front exterior door and adjusting the back exterior door and replace my kitchen floor due to a large hole in it. We talked at length about these items. There were other items he look at even mentioned a few other things he could do. He was my fourth quote and the only one that took eight days to get back. Angie's list made him very busy. All other were from Angie's list and got back within 48hours. When the quote came finally it did not mention the floor at all. I emailed and called him about it and 2 days later I got a call back stating he didn't know I wanted that done. I said we talked about it, he remembered that but didn't think I wanted it. I decided to let him do just the doors. From the beginning of that choice all I heard from him was "Resdoor". It was like he was a partner or had stock in it. He talk about them so much I had to ask him if he could install any other door if it were not from Resdoor, he said yes. So I went to Home Depot and bought the identical size door as the one I had. Frankly, that is where the first one was from, I thought cant go wrong here. NOPE, Mr. Pfeiffer looked at the door measured it and said it wont fit. I said it is the same door, he said the measurements are off. So, 5 minutes later I am on the phone with freaking Resdoor or order the right size door. I said can you at least fix the back door. It did not close. I wanted it t close and lock like a regular door. He shaved some wood off the top and stated that's the best he could do. What???? It still doesn't lock. Thankfully he didn't charge me. The agreement was Resdoor would call Mr. Pfeiffer to pick it up on his way back to my house and Mr. Pfeiffer would call me. That was THREE weeks ago and he still has not called. The door had been sitting at Resdoor for 2 days before I called them and had them deliver it to my house. The REPLACEMENT handyman took off my old door and put the door from home depot up to the frame and showed me it fit perfectly. But now I am stuck with a CUSTOM MADE door I cant return. I was p*****. My new contractor made it work. Working with Mr. Pfeiffer was awful.
Description of Work: He sanded the top of my back door, that was it.

Dear Member, I’m sorry there was a communication problem, but it was not entirely my fault. I was not informed by ResDoor, or yourself that there was a door on order and/or available to be picked up or was going to be delivered to your house. Both you and ResDoor did not call me to let me know it was at your house. Both ResDoor or you did not e-mail me to let me know that it was at your house. I did not receive a text or any form of communication, until I see it here on Angie’s List. She, the member, is correct about one thing. Upon initial inspection, from my vantage point, it looked like the door could be shaved down enough to allow it to close. I informed the member of her severe foundation damage in this poorly maintained house/neighborhood. I did shave the top of the door, and since I was not happy with the results, I did not charge her for any work. Most people would be happy to not get charged for something that did not go as planned. And she did not express any frustration at the time of my visit. She said she would let me know something in a few days, but I did not hear anything from her. My focus as a contactor is to provide quality work and not just find a way to put band-aids on larger problems. Another contractor may have been able to get a standard door from Home Depot to fit, but it would not have been a solution that would have met my quality standards. I’m glad the member was able to get her door problems resolved to her liking and am sorry she now has an extra door. And while I am a fan of the quality product provided by ResDoor, I do not receive any commission or am in any other way financially benefiting from the purchase of any products from this supplier. I have been thinking about this client and whatever happened to that door job? Now we know that somewhere else in the link, was a communication breakdown.

My attic door couldn't close because one of the springs had come off track and the corresponding hinge was out of position. I called Carl with Craftsman Connection and described the problem. He began by suggesting I text him a picture of the hinge/spring. I did and he detailed what I should do. I wasn't strong enough to move the spring at all. He came to my house, looked at the hinge and spring and within minutes had fixed the problem! I'd like to add that I called another Angie's List provider before I called Craftsman Connection and was told that Carl's fix "couldn't be done"!! Carl was terrific!!

Thank you for the review. When it comes to a simple problem like this one was, I might often try to help the member help themselves to save time and money. I probably took a minute to fix the problem. Were not here to try to sell you a new attic ladder when simply raising the legs and placing the spring back over the support does the trick. I advised her how to operate the ladder to ensure it doesn't happen again. Often times, other installers will end up cutting the legs to short which causes the ladder legs and hinge to be hyper-extended, and the two bars that fold can move in the wrong direction. I'm glad it was exactly as I thought, and initially I didn't charge the customer anything to fix it. She insisted, so I just charged for driving time. Look forward to working with you again.

Carl looks to save his clients money at every turn. He is honest and forthright in what he can do and when. He will find the best deal yet won't cut corners in order to save money. Carl repaired a faulty doorbell ringer and push button. He installed a new button that he would put on his own property. He replaced an existing dishwasher with a newer one and tested it to ensure it was installed correctly. I would, and do, continue to use Carl for my repair and general maintenance needs and would continue to recommend him to others.

Carl was very prompt in response to the original request for service. He was able to be reached by phone, text and/or email. We scheduled an appointment time to get an estimate. He was on time and very nice. I felt very comfortable with him in my home. He looked at the area and asked questions. He also explained to me what I should expect. He even gave me pointers for how to complete my project with painting. I received an estimate within a couple of days of our first meeting. His estimate was easy to read and I was always able to get in contact with him if I had questions. On the day of service Carl arrived at my home on time. He immediately got to work. He worked from the second he arrived until the second he left. He did not even take a lunch break. His work was exactly what he had described. He left the area ready for paint - per my request. He did a great job. My expectations were definitely met. He cleaned up the area well and did not leave a mess behind. I aslo received a follow up call to ensure that I was happy with service and answer any questions I had. Great experience - would definitely use him again!
Description of Work: I had previously tried to attempt to panel my laundry room. Carl saved what he could of my work and fixed the rest. 1 put up some new panneing in places that needed it. 2. replaced some trim work (top and bottom) 3. sunk in nails that were still out. 4. filled nail wholes 5. sand and prep for painting

Thank you for the review. This client did not have an existing attic ladder. I framed out a new hole in the garage ceiling, installed the attic ladder and trim, and then caulked and puttied the trim for whoever would be painting. The job was $300 plus materials, so $343.17, and they purchased the attic ladder which is normally around $200.

The process was more than we expected. There is dust everywhere. Next time we'll turn off the heat or cooling so the dust stays in one place. Carl came in and took the shower down. Luckily, we have another bathroom to use during the renovation. There, he found some mold that was on the back wall in the ark of the shower spray. The shower was completely cement boarded and hydropanned before the tile was put on. We had to find the tile that went in the shower. The suggestion was made that we look at marble for the shower. Since we were not replacing everything in the master bathroom, the counters were a man made marble and the shower needed to go with it. That eneded up the marble walls, but the bid atated a 4x4 floor in the shower, we went with a 2x2 mosaic type tile. We also chose an accent tile to run at about 6 feet off the floor. The accent tile went in our port hole window. We had to purchase all the fixtures, from lighting to plumbing. The bathroom faucets took forever to come in. Now we wait for the mrrors to be done and get thme hung. One thing about Carl, I know he will be back to get those mirrors hung right.
Description of Work: Carl rebuilt the master shower with cement board, hydropanned the shower and tiled our master shower. He grinded the tile areas to make them smooth. Install bathroom lighting and shower, tub and sink faucets. Ask questions before the work starts. Make sure everything is clear. We missed some lighting that was talked about and, therefore, not done. We also added all glass shower door and that takes time to be made and put in. We had to find mirrors for the master bath and that takes time. We needed large mirrors which were hard to find that match. So we had frames built and then the mirrors will be made to fit the frames. The painting went well and the painter came back the next day and did some touch ups. Beats me where those spots were!

Carl uses various people to do certain jobs for the contract. He hired Benjamin Silva of Fort Worth Drywall to do that scope of work. He put in the cement board and painted the master bath. He did a great job.
Description of Work: This is reguard the the painter Carl used. Fort Worth Drywall, Benjamin Silva, was great. He painted and cement boarded the shower. He painted the master bathroom and came back the next day to touch up some spots. Beats me where they were. He was very porfessional and answered any question.
We highly recommend Craftsman Connection (Carl Pfeiffer) for quality workmanship and thoroughness of the job upon completion. Our project was to replace our front entry door with one which improved the curb appeal and weather-proofing of our home. With Carl?s assistance we selected an excellent 8? door which he had stained to our specifications and then he installed it himself. Carl went the extra mile when he discovered the original door had not been installed properly. He used shims and made other adjustments to see that this door was hung properly and then fully insulated before reinstalling the trim. We are very pleased with his attention to detail, quality of workmanship, and his ease of communication. Yes, we highly recommend him for your home improvement projects.
Description of Work: We found Craftsman Connection L.L.C. in Angies List and based on the reviews, contacted Carl Pfeiffer regarding the replacement of our front entry door. He recommended a door supplier and made the measurements, etc. to provide to the supplier to be sure the 8' door would fit properly. Once the door was delivered to our home, Carl was very professional in taking care of the installation. We didn't realize it at the time, but the original door was not installled properly. Carl made the necessary framing corrections and installed our new door, complete with proper insulation. He then arranged for a painter to stain the door (inside & out). Carl then returned to complete the installation. We recommend him for your home improvement projects.

This is an 8 foot fiberglass door with faux woodgrain, and with Gel Stain we are able to make it look like a real wood door. The typical 8 foot door that is 3 feet wide installation price is $495. That includes taking out the old door, and installing the new door level/plumb with shims and 3" long screws into the framing, applying silicone under the threshold, spray foam on all sides of the jamb, installing exterior trim and interior casing and then installing the door handle hardware. The price for a 6'-8" height door is $395. We usually arrange for our painter to come paint the door. He typically sprays the finish on the door, so it looks real nice. You can get a great door from ResDoor in Fort Worth off of 121 and Sylvania exit. Ask for Mark Dunn, the sales guy. For this member, I went to install the door and shimmed it level, and that is when I noticed that their old door was a 1/2" out of plumb (vertically level). I brought this to the homeowners attention, and that meant having to rework the exterior Hardie Siding used as door trim. I went to my supplier to get more Hardie material, and re-installed the new trim work. The husband said it looked better than when it was new, and they have owned the house since it was new. After all the door trim was installed, I caulked all the trim and applied putty to all the nail holes so that it would be ready for my painter the next day. It's nice to see the homeowners standing there with smiles on their faces,... that's what does it for me knowing they know it was done right.

We live in a nearly 100 year old home and had began to notice a significant of movement in our hardwood kitchen floor. As you walked across the kitchen, you could feel some of the floorboards moving up and down and in some places if felt as if you might just fall right through. We contacted Craftsman Connection to see if the floor could be braced somehow from underneath our pier and beam house. Carl responded quickly to our request for an estimate and came out to take a look. He suggested that the floor could be supported with the addition screws to reinforce the subfloor and suggested adding some insulation as well. On the first day of the project, he pre-drilled pocket holes into the floor joists and installed about 500 screws. After that work was completed, the kitchen floor felt like a new floor with no movement when walking across it. The following day, Carl completed the installation of the Tyvek and Tyvek tape underneath the floor and the R-19 insulation between the floor joists. Since the work was completed, the floor feels much, much more stable underfoot and the addition of installation has helped keep the kitchen and the kitchen floor noticeably warmer during cold weather. We are very pleased with Carl and Craftsman Connection and the work that was completed.
Description of Work: The kitchen floor in our house was reinforced from underneath with wood screws along the joists and insulated with Tyvek wrap and R-19 insulation.

Thank you for the review. It was a pleasure working with you. This house was in the Fairmount Historic District and had a typical 1"x 3" original wood floor in the kitchen that someone had replaced a section of wood incorrectly not over a floor joist. Faulty work by someone unqualified started this project, so be careful who you hire. While I was there to look at this one piece, I could tell the rest of the floor was flexing a lot. The old floors where originally installed with finish nails and had worked themselves loose and had gaps between the boards. They had the floor refinished once, but the wood started to cup again and the putty had worked loose with the expansion and contraction of the wood. First I suggested that I install pocket hole screws into each board from the underside of the house to permanently secure the wood floor. Then I suggested to the homeowner that in order to put a stop to this cupping, they needed to control the amount of humidity and temperature by installing a Tyvex vapor barrier under floor and insulation. The project turned out well and the homeowners are happy. That's all that matters.

I had Carl come and give me an estimate to modify the cabinets to accommodate the new range. Since the house hadn't gone to closing I had to have my realtor let us in. I put Carl in touch with my realtor and they set the appointment up to meet at the house. Carl arrived promptly at the scheduled time and we discussed options for the modification. We agreed that a portion of the cabinet would need to be moved to allow the freestanding range to fit and the estimate given was $300 based on 6 hours to do the work. Since that was less than half the cost to replace it with a built in I decided that was what to do. I had another contractor come in and he gave me an estimate of $250 based on cutting the counter top instead of moving the cabinet. He didn't seem as confident in the outcome so I decided to go with Carl. The day before the appliances were scheduled for delivery Carl followed up and confirmed the time for the work to be done and arrived on time. After removing the old stove he found the cabinet didn't need to be moved and that cutting the counter top to fit would be the better option. I was concerned about the counter top chipping but the counter was in perfect condition after cutting both sides. The old stove was direct wired in so the new stove needed to have an outlet installed for the plug.Carl installed the outlet and the new stove cord which wasn't included in the original estimate. Since the cabinet modification had taken less time than originally planned he did the additional work PLUS installed the microwave over the stove for a total of $250 which was less than the original estimate. I am very pleased with his work and professionalism and will definitely use him in the future.
Description of Work: I was buying a house that required the stove to be replaced. The existing stove was a built in which would have cost $700 more to replace than a free standing range so I had opted for the freestanding. The counter opening was too narrow for the free standing and required modification.

Thank you for the review. Originally I had planned to move the cabinet over instead of modifying the cabinet due to the type of cheap cabinet construction. Since I budgeted about 6 hours in my schedule for the project, and it took me about 3 hours to do the actual work, considering the cabinet no longer needed to be moved, and only some simple cabinet parts below the old stove had to be removed and counter top cut. I went ahead and converted his hardwired cable into an outlet box with receptacle so he could plug in his new range cord, and then installed the range, set the clock time, etc. I charged him $200 for all that. I saw the member installing his own dishwasher, and helped him with some tips with the water and drain line, when he asked me about installing the microwave range hood. Since a previous unit was there already, installing a new mounting bracket, drilling holes, mount and plug in the unit took about an hour. I charged him an additional $50. All in all it was $50 less than what he anticipated that day and he probably got twice what he expected, since he didn't have to hire his electrician to install the range or anyone else to install the microwave range hood. Glad to help out, and I look forward to working with him again in the future.

Thank you for the review and Happy New Year. It was very odd that someone before me had installed the framing for the door off by about an inch. There was a cheaper option that would look good from one side but not both. Ultimately the right way is the best way, and I'm happy they chose that option. It was more money of course, but in the end they are much happier I'm sure. "When you buy quality, you only cry once", as a sign I saw once in a high quality hardware shop read. Poor workmanship is remembered for years after. Thank you for your business and we look forward to working with you again in the future.

Carl's modification of our appliance garage went great, and we couldn't be happier with the way he prepared it for the granite installation.
Description of Work: We contacted several carpenters to modify an appliance garage before replacing our countertops. They either did not want to do the job or admitted they didn't know how to modify the garage. Carl knew exactly what to do in order to prepare the garage for the upcoming granite installation. I rated this company a D instead of an F simply because they DID respond to my initial call and spent quite a bit of time walking through the house making a list of work to be done and taking photos. This was back in September. It is now November. No estimate, no follow up phone call. Nothing. Complete waste of my time walking him through all the projects and waiting on an estimate.

Hello Member, I do not recall our meeting and can not find the paperwork for your estimate. I keep all the paperwork for clients we meet with and those of who we do work for. If we met and you do not receive an estimate. It would be helpful to first call our office and follow up with me. I'm sorry you didn't get the estimate. Many times, we meet with members and their list of items they want done is so long, it takes longer to get the estimate done than anticipated. This last week I am in the middle of doing a bathroom remodel for a family who has been waiting 2 years or more for me to do his bathroom remodel, and in the evenings I was helping out another family that just had their first child, in which the husband was doing his own bath remodel and needed my help from 5:30pm to 1:00am. I go way out of my way to help people working either on the job or in the office late to help as many people as I can. He was so nice and sent me a note along with the payment that read, "Carl- Thanks a ton for all your help. Your insight and honesty was a blessing in this challenging season!" - (signed Clients Name) I try to be a blessing to as many people as I can. And God gives me more strength to carry on and help those in immediate need, and at times He calls for rest. I hope that your project was done well by whomever you went with. You didn't get neglected by choice, but maybe rather because I was busy being a blessing to someone else.

contacted Carl by phone initially and he did make an appointment and came to our home even ahead of the set time. He also behaved in a professional manner and was very friendly. We went over exactly what the job entailed and he said he would get back with me on Saturday for an estimate. This was on Tuesday and I thought that seemed a little long since I had received two bids from other contractors one on the same day as the contact and the other the next day. However I was willing to wait since he was very nice. However, Saturday came and went and then two more business days went by and so I contacted him and asked for the bid. He seemed astonished that I was concerned he had not kept his word about the date and then informed me it always took at least 5 days for an estimate. He did email me a bid that day at my request. It was much higher in price than the other bids and his general attitude at that point caused us to choose another contractor.

Hello Member, Many Angie's List Members joined because they are looking for GREAT contractors. The reason it takes so long to get an estimate is because I meet with 1 Angie's List member per day, handle my estimates in the order received, almost every estimate needs to have materials priced out, then I might have to wait for pricing, and each estimate takes most of my evening due to all the details I write in the estimate. These details protect my customer. Plus did I mention that this contractor is at the job site, not sitting in the office. I don't send someone that I called a foreman, who doesn't fully understand the in's and out's of every trade, material, etc. My Job is to properly estimate the cost, not to low ball it to get a job. Unless you change your mind, or you add work onto the Scope of Work, the price you get should be the final price. I focus on quality in the details. I'm like the BMW of construction. Not everyone can afford me, but the quality is there to last for many years to come. My tile work is within 1/32" or better. I can actually do perfectly smooth walls (Level 4) and perfectly flat and smooth walls (Level 5). My customers don't have to go back and fix my work. I've been compared to Holmes on Homes, and how many people get that compliment? I'm only shocked with people who focus on price first. Contractors are not easily compared to each other like a known product at the grocery store. For me it's all about the quality, meeting codes, and knowing without a doubt, that it was done right the first time. I pray that your project goes well, and that they didn't send a couple of illegals to do your project. The cost is probably lower, because they sent less qualified people to do the work. Next time you get a low price, you should wonder why it's so cheap. I'm sure you'll find out later, because it'll all reveal itself in time.

Work started out well but started to come apart when plumbing fixtures were installed. In-wall faucet mixer mechanism was installed upside down so spigot placement was not as desired. Faucet installation is built-in to the wall so major rework, i.e. removing freshly-installed and finished drywall, sink and vanity would have been required so chose to go with less-than-desirable spigot installation location. Toilet installation was also very difficult as the unit is somewhat unconventional (Kohler dual-flush) necessitating unanticipated relocation of toilet fill shut-off valve (and re-work of already finished wall). No issues, however, with collateral work -- new pantry door and office shelf installations. Carl (the proprietor) performed the majority of the work himself with some painting performed by sub-contractors. He takes great pride in his work and does demonstrate legitimate "craftmanship" versus "good enough" workmanship. His estimate was the highest of the estimates I sought (four total) but I felt his personal conduct and pride-in-workmanship would produce good results. Lesson learned: Fit check EVERYTHING before final installation especially with higher-end fixtures that have unique installation requirements. Update: Installed a mirror over the in-wall faucet trim plate and now see that the in-wall valve was not installed "level." The trim plate is at least a half-bubble off. Most people won't notice but I do and it's an annoyance. I also have noticed that the fastener securing the faucet handle to the mixer is either a random piece of hardware (it protrudes signficantly and is not threaded properly). I would think the correct hardware could have been a flush-mounted set screw rather than what appears to be a pan head screw. Thought you'd want to know.
Description of Work: Resurfaced and painted walls and ceiling, installed wall-integrated faucet assembly, installed vanity and vessel sink, installed new toilet, installed new electrical switches and outlet, installed new cupboard doors, installed new pantry door and installed supplemental built-in office shelving.

Hi Member, The project went well. The odd Grohe faucet instructions could have been better, as you and I did go over the instructions a couple of times. At the end, with the two ports being fairly similar looking, and the spout being on the wrong side then planned, you seemed happier that it was on the other side due to how the water came out of the spout, and hitting the side of your trapezoidal shaped sink edge with the offset drain hole. It was all very unusual plumbing materials. The wall mounted cabinet placement went exactly as planned with the hidden plumbing looking very nice. I did all the drywall work, wall paint, trim and cabinet painting in the bathroom, but had my painters come to paint the office shelving and 2 doors. I'm happy that you are happy with the finished results. And I'm glad you appreciated the craftsman workmanship on how well all the parts fit like how the toilet shut-off valve pipe comes out of the wall, so that the hose turns 90 degrees straight into the small hole in the flat side of your toilet. It's those little details a guy like you can appreciate. Let me know when your ready to go over the details for your upcoming kitchen remodel. I enjoyed working with you.
Carl helped us with renovations and upgrades to an 85-100 year old house that suffered from lots of neglect and a fair amount of incompetent work done 4-5 years ago by a house flipper. I chose Carl because of the caliber of his work, his references (many here on Angie?s List) and his multiple areas of competency. He was booked up but we decided to wait to get the "full service" skill set he offered. It was a good choice since we discovered issues in this house every turn of the way and he was able to "roll with the punches" and offer practical solutions at each discovery. If you are looking for a fellow who knows how things should be done in most any area of a home and can deliver a craftsman product, Carl is the fellow you want on your project. In many ways, he?s a ?Holmes on Homes? for the Ft. Worth area. I worked alongside him for almost 10 weeks and can attest to his skills, his craftsmanship and his critical eye. He excels at custom woodwork and finish carpentry and ?gets it? in most every aspect of home renovation and upgrades. Our project included custom built fireplace surround and adjacent bookcases (magnificent result), miscellaneous built-in lighting additions (excellent) and internet/cable TV wiring throughout (good), restoring textured walls to either a smooth finish or a soft Spanish trowel (excellent), replacing and modifying framing for front and back doors (very good), replacing a living room ceiling (magnificent), crown molding throughout the house (magnificent), new molding around windows and doors (magnificent), floor restoration (magnificent) and painting (magnificent). Carl?s contractors for the floor and painting work are the best I?ve ever used. We also constructed a full kitchen in a rental apartment in less than a week?s time using prebuilt cabinets and custom laminate (very good). And along the way we corrected incompetent electrical and plumbing work, supported a failing ceiling, added roof supports and improved attic ventilation. If there is a negative in the whole experience, Carl gets booked up quickly and handles too many separate projects at once, overloading himself with commitments, leaving his team to handle routine work with good, but less than craftsman outcomes and injecting an inefficiency in the entire process as he shifted from job to job trying to please everyone. When you get Carl?s concentrated attention, the outcome is magnificent and the cost is fair (but not cheap). He's worth waiting for if you have a complicated renovation or upgrade at your house AND you appreciate quality.
Description of Work: Rennovation and partial restoration to an early 1900's house which had been neglected and abused over time. Walls, ceiling, flooring, molding, woodworking, cabinetry, limited plumbing and electrical, attic structural repairs, ventilation, etc. Complete refit of living room, extensive upgrade of dining room, walls in kitchen and miscellaneous activities throughout the balance of the house.

I sent this company an email requesting an estimate, they never responded. A couple of days later I called and spoke with Carl, the owner of the company. He made an appointment with me a whole week in advance. On the day of the appointment he called to cancel, he said he was stuck on a job and needed to finish so that we would get paid. He promised to call back in two days to reschedule and he never called. I liked the reviews I read on Angie's List on this guy, but I personally can not believe them. In my opinion Carl is not responsible, does not keep his word, and this makes him unprofessional and unreliable. It could be that this guy has too much work, I don't see how, or misrepresented himself and does not do cabinet refacing. I do NOT recommend this guy due to my personal experience or NON experience. It is now over a week since I spoke with Carl, and still have not heard from him again. I will move on.

Hello Member, Most of the time we are able to keep our appointments, but on this unusual occasion, the owner of the house remodel we were working on moved out of state to California, and then flew back in for 3 days to see the work 3 weeks later. Our original schedule was to be done the day before he got back. But due to another $4,000 worth of work he added, we needed to complete that. Fortunately that owner and I were able to be done enough to do a final walk through, and I was able to get paid before he flew out of town. And Yes I am very busy do to our high quality work, so as I looked at your name and number each day, I just didn't have time to call in between all the other calls, driving, working, estimating, etc. There are several clients that I know are definitely hiring me all the way until November, and I placed a higher priority on their needs. Angie's List can be a blessing and sometimes overwhelming. We are very blessed to have so much work and constantly keeping my employees busy. However there is very few ways to control the flow of clients on Angie's List when you get 1-6 calls a day. Lately, I have often turned people away because I already have enough appointments for the week or into next week, or because we are booked up until November. I feel bad about your situation, and I would love to help everyone out. I said I would call you when I knew of a time we could meet up, not 2 days later as you say. Between other client meetings already set up (as stated above), there wasn't time a week later. I was going to call you yesterday (Sat) to set up a time but I see now that it's a waste of my time. Fortunately, My current 2 Angie's List customers are extremely happy with the Craftsmanship and schedule so far, and keeping our current Angie's List clients happy is far more important to me than chasing new work that might interfere with the happiness/ schedule of the existing clients.

All in all, hes booked up till Novemeber now, when I was told he could start in July. Still a nice guy, just seems a little sketchy to me. Take it for what it is.
Description of Work: Carl was polite on the phone and in person. However once he left I was not important enough or a big enough job to have the courtesy of actually doing the estimate I was told would be done nor was I ever called or told said estimate wouldnt be done. Talked to him on phone and was told he couldnt find time to do the estimate because he has taken more business after he had met with me.

I met with the client and told him I wasn't available until September. He said he had a party in two weeks and wanted to have the whole house tiled by then, and then a master bathroom after. At the very best, I told him I could do the tile after his party, so that would be 3-4 weeks out. Since the meeting I had another client schedule me for a whole house remodel, that we are in the middle of right now and he and his daughter are very happy with our work. At that time I was available to start in a few weeks, but do to our popularity on Angie's List and with all our clients, they keep us very busy and add on extra work once they see just how well we do. With that extra work, that eats into the time that I had intended to do this members estimate. I'm willing to meet with new members, and I was straight forward with my schedule for this member. Seems like he was being pushy and not understanding that great contractors are booked many months in advance. If people just can't be patient for a great contractor who's on-site working every day, and putting their needs in front of chasing after other work, than I'm not interested in working with them. I think putting the current clients needs first is more important. How would you feel if your contractor wasn't putting you first over chasing new work? I already work all day, and then go home and work half the night most of the time doing paperwork. If there just isn't enough time in the day, then should I put my health at risk for some guy who wants tile? I think not. I truly wish there was more time in the day to follow up with everyone and do the estimates quicker. I love all my Angie's List clients who are 99.99% of my business these days. I've been working 14 years full time just by referrals, if that doesn't tell you all you need to know. But I guess we are at the point where there is more demand for us than I can handle at this point. If members can be willing to give me time to get to their estimate, than I encourage them to call. Right now we are scheduled to November. I'm sorry the member and my schedule didn't work out. I sincerely apologize for the delay.

Called and scheduled an estimate for 4pm Thursday afternoon 5/17/2012....nobody showed up. I took the afternoon off from work so that could get an estimate on a bathroom remodel...what a waste of my time. I even called on my way to my house to confirm the apt...no answer...left a message...no call back. This was my first try at an "Angie List" contractor......I hope they aren't all this unprofessional/unreliable.
Description of Work: No Service performed....contractor was a no show.

The member called me 8 minutes prior to the meeting to confirm his appointment (and I still have the voicemail saved on my cell phone). I did not hear my phone ring while in route to his house, but needless to say the member was not on time to his house. Since I didn't get to listen to his voicemail til later that evening, I didn't stick around at his vacant house to wait for him to show up. The member didn't follow up with me after that, and expects that I should be chasing him. I hope that he can understand that we are very busy and in high demand from our other 47 great reports, and I have had other clients miss their meetings due to traveling, sickness or other reasons. Fortunately, since they were further away, I called first, so it was not an inconveinence that they were not able to meet at that time. We strive to be on time to our appointments, I'm sorry you were not on-time to yours.

Overall GREAT experience ! Carl and his team were all very nice, professional, punctual and repective of my home. Carl offered suggestions throughout the project which were extremely welcomed and helpful. While the overall project estimate was higher than some -- I felt much more comfortable about it. Carl's estimates were well detailed and everything was written down and explained. Would definitely use him again for other home projects that I may have.
Description of Work: I decided to update the kitchen without replacing the cabinets by refinishing them and changing out some of the doors, replace the countertop with granite, replace the the backsplash, installed a working cook vent, installed hardwood flooring, replaced the baseboards and refaced my fireplace.

I called Carl and he showed up the same day to inspect the project. He provided a very detailed estimate that afforded me several options on the scope of the work. I made the (excellent) decision to go with him on a Saturday and he was at my house two days later on Monday morning. They weren't the cheapest (but well within the 3 other bids I received) but his knowledge and professionalism made it an easy choice. The completed the project in 3 days and did an outstanding job. Carl is very thorough and meticulous- the job site was cleaned everyday and my entire garage was covered in plastic to keep all the old popcorn, dust, mud, and primer off the contents. I can't say enough about what a great job Carl and his crew did. They kept me informed of progress, and when I increased the scope of the project, he provided an additional estimate within hours. Carl is the kind of guy you want to do you work. He worked late one of the days, and he had supper with me and the family- he's just a really good guy and a real craftsman.
Description of Work: Carl and his crew replaced almost all of the ceiling sheetrock in my garage. He also removed all the popcorn ceiling topping, taped, bedded, textured, and primered the new sheetrock. He rerouted garage door wiring, installed lights, and reframed attic latter trim.

Thank you Angie's List member for all the kind words. It is vitally important to us to go over all the details and put it in writing so you feel secure about what your getting from us. I also look for ways where I can bless the client with a way to better the project as in the case of hiding your garage door opener wiring in the wall and up in the attic or donate some extra lighting to improve the looks of your garage. It makes me happy to go the extra 10%, and of course that pleases our customers, since nearly 100% of our clients these days are Angie's List members, and repeat Angie's List members. Let me know when your ready to get an estimate for the spray foam insulation job, and meet with my insulation contractor with his Flir thermal Imaging Camera, so we can start planning how to best take care of your comfort up in your office.
