Contract was agreed to on July 16th. Work wasn't completed until September 11th. I sent half of the $3200 to Robert at the time the contract was sent. No contact for weeks until someone came by and did the mark up on the house. I was told I would be given a 2 day notice so I could leave that back gate open. That didn't happen. When I called Robert to ask what the deal was, when they would come by, went to Voice Mail. I then called his brother who gave me the quote, Chas, who said oops, Robert dropped the ball on that let me have him call you. When I finally got a call back from Robert, I got excuses and a bunch of talk about how he has never had this happen to him in all his years of this business. He agreed to improve communication and said they would be out the next week. Next week came, went, had to hunt him down again. Again, excuses and a promise to show. The following week they show up finally, and start the work. When asked how long, we should be done today which was Tuesday. The next day they work a little still not done. I go out of town leave the check with my brother to pay them in good faith they would have the job done and correctly. They have a conversation with my brother (who is not who is paying nor is he on the contract to do the work) that they can't do something. My brother tells them he isn't authorized to tell them they can do anything different than what I asked them to do. I get back to a house with dirt all over the place cause they have started some of the digging but still not done on Sunday. Monday comes and goes. Finally I call Robert again going to voice mail...informing him that his team has only completed 50% of the work what is going on. The following day, no call from Robert but twice as many guys show up and I talk to them, should be done today I was told. Today comes and goes...still not done. Finally they finish the next day and ask to be paid. My brother gives them the check because I am not there, but they show him how to work the system. The guy showing him isn't one of their guys and tells my brother these guys don't know what they are doing, he is just a sub-contractor working for them. When I get home, what I thought was a drip system was not the case. Walking the property I see sprinkler heads and thought that was odd. And there is still this hole out in the front yard I am being told by my brother will stay there until the inspection guy comes. These guys are THE WORSE. I have talked to several people and this should have been a 3 day job max. The drip system was not installed instead I got a hybrid install without any written or formal communication that my work had been changed. I paid for a drip system which I am sure is more costly than the system I got. Overall...horrifying customer service. I called Robert last night and sent him an email. My experience on Angie's list is that you still need to do some research on even these "top" rated guys. I am definitely not renewing my Angie's list...word of mouth is probably still the best referral you can get and it's free.

[removed member name], we have been in contact and I have guaranteed installation of the drip system in your front yard no later than October 31st. Through no fault of our own, the machine I purchased was inadequate to install the dripline efficiently. We will hand dig your system if necessary, but our hopes are that we will have in hand a machine that will efficiently install your drip system. In the interim, we installed conventional popup spray zones to water your front yard. We will replace these with subsurface drip no later than October 31st. You have responded to this offer and voiced your satisfaction with the solution. Thank you for your patience. The movie will have the happy ending we both desire. He talked a good talk, but when I compared him to our regular sprinkler man, it was evident he did not know sprinkler systems very well. One section would not sprinkle and his determination of why it wouldn’t was correct at all. He suggested replacing a part in the controls for a major cost (I think over $200) but our sprinkler man repaired it for next to nothing. Our sprinkler man had everything he needed to to the job with him. This Double Eagle guy was going to have to come back (and after the two or three days he promised to return), I simply wrote him off and called our regular service provider.

Everything went excellently! I purchased the Angie's List "Big Deal" Saturday evening. Double Eagle promptly contacted me at 8:00 the following Monday morning, and arrived before 9:00 to fulfill the purchased service. Clinton the technician was very professional, and is an expert in sprinkler systems. I will definitely call Double Eagle for any of my future service needs. I will also highly recommend Double Eagle to anyone needing sprinkler system service.

First, I liked the way I was treated on my initial phone call. I felt as though I was being well accommodated and all my questions were clearly answered. Second, we scheduled the time and Clint was due first thing in the AM. As it turned out he had car trouble so called to tell me that he would be late but was still coming. He also offered a time later in the day when he would be in my area anyway. I thought that was the best for both of us. He called again to tell me when he thought he'd be here. Then again when he was on his way. Then again to give me an exact ETA. I LOVED being in touch so that I didn't worry. Poor guy arrived limping badly. He'd hurt himself on another job. Despite his pain, he soldiered on! He checked everything, adjusted some heads that were misdirected, and replaced the totally broken head at no extra charge. While I've had my doubts about the initial installation (done by another company) he told me that the system was all in good shape. I wouldn't hesitate to use them again. In fact, I have a sticker that I'm going to put inside the control box so I know who best to call the next time I have a failure. THESE GUYS ARE GREAT!
Description of Work: I called them before buying their "deal" on Angie's List. Clint replaced the really broken head and inspected and adjusted all the others for only $85! Got another quote for comparison and it was $100. I was offered the same deal if I bought direct and chose to do that 'cause I wanted to pay AFTER the work was done, not before.

I would not use them again. They charged us to look at our sprinklers and did not adjust anything. The sent 2 young men out to do the job. They just tried to sell me a $10,000 package and they did not do a thing. They were at my house for maybe 5 minutes. I wanted to make sure that our system was efficient and they just said we needed and new system. The deal was a complete waste of money.

(Member name removed), In reviewing the invoice, we visited your home on Tuesday, March 25th. Your system had multiple faults, which we described as follows: (1) Repair leak in front bed zone @ $400.00; (2) Repair leak in back bead @ $400.00; (3) Repair leak on side of house @ $200.00; (4) Replace existing rotors in backyard with Hunter MP-Rotators for better coverage and 25% less water usage; multiple heads at $45.00 each. Sometimes when the news is not good you shoot the messenger! I am incredulous that all of this information was generated in 5 minutes of work! It doesn't make a lot of sense to stay at a worksite if the customer is unwilling to authorize the work being done. I think an F rating is a little harsh. We inspected your system and advised you what needed to be done and you declined our estimate. From my experience, that happens about 5% of the time. The more work that needs to be done, the higher the likelihood that the customer will balk at authorizing the work. The irrigator that was sent to your home has over 5 years experience, specifically lawn sprinkler repair, both commercial and residential. Your system was walked and estimated properly. My request is that you rethink your rating. It has a ripple effect on other Angie's List readers who are attempting to form an opinion about my men and my company's integrity. Sadly, in my experience with harsh reviewers (with attendant "F" ratings,) no one has ever changed their ratings, no matter how unfair they are. I have contacted Angie's List management to dispute the fairness of more than one outrageous review, and they simply wash their hands. So, reader, beware of reviews and ratings that are completely different from the mass of reviews and ratings that my company has recieved over the years. We are dedicated to serving our customers with cost-effective, informed lawn sprinkler service. Robert Coleman, Owner, Double Eagle Sprinkler

I am very happy with the results of my project. Robert was very responsive, professional, and flexible in working with and around my landscaping contractor's schedule. He was also willing to work in Little Elm when many other closer irrigation contractors wouldn't make the trip to my house. He was very timely in responding to any of my requests and always displayed a "can do" attitude towards me as a customer. His lead irrigation supervisor on my project (Mario) was very thorough and did a great job installing my irrigation system. He customer installed my new system to completely replace the inefficient and broken irrigation system to help improve my irrigation coverage and be more efficient with water. I will definitely use them for any future projects.

Phone when he would not be on time. Did not know what was included on the deal, explaned deal. Turned sprinkler system on and watched the sprinkler come on. Programed the system for the times that I requested and left. I had also requested a quote for sod, the area was measured by footsteps and I was given a quote. I requested the quote be in writing and include details of what would be done. I had also requested a quote for sod, the area was measured by footsteps and I was given a quote. I requested the quote be in writing and include details of what would be done. Never received quote After thinking about what was done and what whs described in the deal, I called the company a couple of weeks later and talked to the owner and indicated that I was not happy with the service. I also requested the quote for sod in writing, indicated that it would be sent. Not received. Owner indicated that he would send his son out to perform the service. Scheduled for 8/1. The technician called to say he was running late. When he arrived it was the same technician from the first call who insisted that he had performed the service the first time. After several conversations with the owner and technican, I walked the sprinkler system with the technican and we found 2 broken sprinkler. I asked about replacing the sprinkler heads he indicated that it would be cheaper for me to replace them myself. He left soaking wet as was I from walking the system with the sprinkler on.

[member name removed], I'm thankful for customers like you who eagerly describe the areas of improvement we have. I'm a little chagrined that the technician sent to your home was the same one that flubbed up the first time! In our favor, we did not charge you for the follow up visit. I'm unclear if the reason he said it would be cheaper for you to replace the heads was that you didn't want to pay for the extra labor and parts cost, or that you had said you could put them in yourself. Naturally, if someone puts in their own parts on their own labor, it would definitely be cheaper than having us (or any other irrigator) to put them in. Thank you for taking the time to let us know where we failed you. I'll make sure it doesn't happen again with the next customer. Robert Coleman, Owner, Double Eagle Sprinkler

Scheduled service was for 7AM. Service provider called and advised would be a little late due to traffic and travel time longer than expected. Arrived at 10AM. Completed service by 11AM. I knew there were two heads that were broken. I was also aware that one rotor was spraying windows / house - he adjusted pattern. He found the two bad heads and adjusted pattern on rotor. Also fixed 1 of what I thought were two low spray heads. He thought the second one was high enough. I wanted to raise it but he did not. He was careful not to get anything muddy. Was prompt and professional once he arrived. Biggest disappointment was that he was three hours late for appointment. I booked the 7AM slot thinking I would be able to get to work by 8:30 but as it turned out I missed 3 hours of work due to the service provider being three hours late. Any savings on big deal were lost when I lost 3 hours at work. He at least called to inform he would be late but it seems to me he should have looked up address and calculated travel time the night before so he would know what time to leave allowing him to arrive at promised time. This late arrival was not my only issue. I also thought he should have raised the 2nd sprayer. It seemed like he was in a hurry to get to next customer - probably three hours late for them also. If you are late for the first appointment of the day it throws the whole schedule off. In this case I got the double whammy of missing three hours of work and not getting a sprinkler properly adjusted and raised.
Description of Work: Angie's list special for tune-up and service $89. Found two bad sprinkler heads and replaced, redirected several sprinkler heads, cleaned sprinkler heads, raised one sprinkler head in flower bed to get it high enough above soil and plants to be effective. Added cost for these extra items $26. Total cost $115. I was a little surprised by the extra charge especially after being so late. I had had a tune up before from another Angie's list service provider and these minor charges were covered in the tune up cost.

[removed member name], I am chagrined that you would not have us back to your home in the future. We have definitely failed you in that regards, as that is our goal each and every time we visit someone's home to do our work. I'd like to take a moment to comment on your input. We were scheduled for 7:30am, and he arrived, (after leaving our office at 6;30am) at 9:30am due to extremely poor traffic that day. Can you imagine 3 hours in traffic, when you had prepared and scheduled to be on time? You had a head and nozzle replaced (Rain Bird 1804 popup spray head, best in the world, with matching precipitation nozzle). This was $10.00. You had three heads raised by installing new 6" polynipples @ $3.50 each. This was $10.50. You also had two Rain Bird matching precipitation nozzles replace @ $3.00. This was $6.00. TOTAL $26.50. Your total bill was $111.50, which you paid. I guess the question I ask is what was so unreasonable about the charges? (We received a C rating for pricing.) Yes, I apologize for the lateness, but keep in consideration that traffic was NUTS that day and he came to your home as quickly as he could. He left the office at 6:30 with plenty of time allotted for travel. He drops his wife off at 5:30 at her work (near our office,) and then comes in to do his paperwork and go out on his calls. If he was late, it was only due to circumstances beyond our control, and was not intentional by any means. Replacing a head, 3 nozzles, and raising three heads, inspecting the system stem to stern for $115.00 is a great value in my book. Robert Coleman, Owner, Double Eagle Sprinkler

Installer was reminded that on one of the heads, it was probably too low since we have quite a bit of growth coming up at that location, and he said that he would adjust it if that happens. When it did, we were quoted a hefty service call charge. I ended up having to buy an extension at a hardware store and installing it myself. Upon completion of the system Robert said he would be providing a diagram showing where all the tubing and wiring was located, so we would know where - and where not to plant trees, and where not to dig, etc. We requested this a number of times, but we never received a response - nor were we even told that the Company would not provide the diagrams after all. We really would have liked to had a reply - one way or another.

[member name removed], great to hear from you. Your system was actually installed in 2008, and has given you 6 years of wonderful performance. Asbuilt drawings have been required by law since 2010, and since then we have always provided new installs with a drawing designating the location of their remote control valves, shut-off valve, and controller. Please forgive me for being fuzzy about providing one for you in 2008. We provided asbuilt drawings as a $200 extra at that time, and relatively few customers opted in for that. I'd be happy to send Mario (yes, still with me after 13 years) over to your home to map out your system. He never forgets an installation. I'd only charge you $100 and I'd give it all to Mario for his time. Let me know what you'd like to do. Happy to oblige. Robert Coleman, Owner, Double Eagle Sprinkler

Old sprinkler system at our new home needed assessment as to whether it was working. Double Eagle was prompt in coming for assessment. The man showed me how the main water out by the street was stuck in a closed position and the whole thing would have to be replaced. The next day the workers came out to give the estimate. I can't remember the total they quoted just to get the water flowing again, but it was in the thousands. We decided to call a different company who came out and had no trouble assessing that the water was already turned on. Either Double Eagle was incompetent or they were trying to scam us.

[member name removed], Your system had a 2" gate valve preceding your backflow preventer. This gate valve was leaking and needed to be replaced. The $1,200.00 bid amount for replacing the 2" gate valve reflected the fact that the assembly before and after the gate valve was copper (not PVC), which requires torch-welding at every joint of the fabrication. Torch-welding (as opposed to PVC glue-welding) takes a lot of time, as each joint must be thoroughly sanded. They must be water-free. Then the joint is torch-welded with solder. Then you test the joint(s) to make sure that each one is leak-free. Rarely is the first attempt leak-free, especially on a 2" copper fitting(s). That is why you bid so many hours of labor when replacing a copper-inlet and copper-outlet replacement. It is time consuming and frustrating, especially with the high water pressure involved. The licensed irrigator I sent to your home has successfully repaired copper leaks for over the past seven years he has been my employee. Over the past seven years he has repaired over $1,000,000 worth of sprinkler systems. Not once in those seven years has he ever been accused of "scamming" a customer, not once! As regards his competence, his work has proven the test of time at thousands of homes and busineses in the DFW metroplex. When bidding work, experience has taught us the hard way, especially on copper torch weld jobs. Why do you think plumbing work is so expensive----copper torch welds! My licensed irrigator simply built in enough hours to do the job if everything did NOT go right, the first or second time. This is not uncommon with copper torch weld jobs. The good thing about copper systems is that, once they are fixed, they last and last. I patently reject your insinuation that we are either incompetent or scam artists. We are honest, hard working, experienced, competent, licensed Irrigators who serve our customers with respect and professionalism. I'm proud of my men and the hard work they do in the broiling sun to help our customers. Nothing you say or print will change my opinion of my men and my company. [member name removed], I'm at a loss to respond to your review and rating. If you were not there, how could you objectively grade our effort? (I wouldn't be quibbling if you had rated us higher). I appreciate your business, and I won't get into a rant about the expense of going to a person's home, etc. I can only assure you that $85 for 1 hour of a Texas Licensed irrigator, fully insured, with many years of experience, is a truly favorable rate. It was alright. The technician came out, looked at the system and changed one sprinkler head. I thought he could have adjusted the heads. I told him that it sprayed onto the street and he told me it would dry.

THE LINE WAS CUT-OFF, AND AN ENTIRELY NEW LINE WITH NEW VALVES INSTALLED FOR LINE 6. INSTEAD OF RESTORING PRESSURE TO THE SYSTEM, THE REPAIR ACTUALLY CAUSED ALL LINES TO FAIL. THEN THE PROVIDER ADVISED THAT THE CORRECT REMEDY WAS TO REPLACE ALL VALVES FOR AN ADDITOINAL CHARGE OF $1200. WE ADVISED THE PROVIDER THAT THE RESULT OF THE REPAIR WAS TO DE-STABILIZE THE SYSTEM, WHICH SHOULD HAVE BEEN FORESEEN. IN HINDSIGHT, THE PROVIDER SHOULD HAVE REASONABLY KNOWN THAT REPLACEMENT OF THE LINE WOULD PLACE STRESS ON THE ENTIRE SYSTEM AND CAUSE ALL THE VALVES TO FAIL. THUS, THE PROVIDER SHOULD HAVE REPLACED THE VALVES RATHER THAN INSTALLING A NEW LINE, AND SEE IF THAT WORKED, RATHER THAN A SURE REPAIR NEEDED AFTER LINE REPLACEMENT OF THE ENTIRE SYSTEM. IT APPEARS TO US THAT THIS WAS A BAIT AND SWITCH PROCESS TO LURE US INTO SPENDING OVER $2500 FOR THE REPAIR WHCIH WAS NOT IN OUR BUDGET AND WE WOULD HAVE REFUSED IF THIS OPTION WA PROVIDED UP FRONT AND SIMPLY LIVED WITH 7 OUT OF 8 FUNCTIONING LINES.
Description of Work: THE PROVIDER WAS RETAINED TO REPAIR A SPRINKLER SYSTEM THE PROVIDER CLAIMED IT COULD NOT LOCATE A A VALVE NEEDED TO SHUT DOWN LINE 6 WHICH MAINTAINED SOME PRESSURE AFTER IT WAS SUPPOSED TO SHUT DOWN. AS A RESULT, THE PROVIDER PROPOSED REPLACEMENT OF LINE 6 IN ORDER TO SHUT DOWN THE VALVE AND RESTORE PRESSURE TO LINES 7 AND 8, WITH LINE 8 ACHIEVING NO IRRIGATION.

(Member name), Sadly, your system, before we came, and after we effected the agreed upon repairs, is very old and the valves are very old (35 year old black Richdel valves---all of them)and on the brink of failure (35 years for a valve is like a 200 year old man). The original call was for a stuck valve---a valve that runs continuously, even though it is turned off at the controller. We searched for this valve using a wire locater (unsuccessfully because the wires in your system are not single strand, direct burial rated wires. We then spot dug the mainline, looking for the valve. This process took 3 hours with 2 men, at a cost of $145 per hour and a $45.00 wire locater charge. (Total so far, $480.00) When this failed to produce results, we estimated a total charge of $1300.00 to bring a trencher in and completely reroute the mainline, hook up a completely new valve and attach it to the existing lateral pipeline and heads, bypassing and abandoning the valve that we could not locate. We brought a trencher to your home and dug a 45' trench, hooked up to the existing mainline with a new 1" Rain Bird commercial remote control valve, and attached it to the existing pipeline and heads, completing our mission. We also replaced 2 spray heads in the backyard and 2 in the front yard, as well as lowering two heads in the beds in the bed by the door. We advised you at the initial call that two other valves were weeping whenever the system operated. You have a master valve, so they only "weep" when the system is operating. This weeping causes all of the other valves to have low pressure because, in effect, three valves are opened at the same time. After the repairs were made, you were not there to walk the system and review our work. At that time, we ran the entire system, and the only defects that were present AT THAT TIME were the two weeping valves that we had already made you aware of. You paid for the repairs, and asked for additional time to pay for a new controller ($350.00), which I authorized. A week later, you sent an email requesting a walk of the system. We sent our two technicians that worked on your system to walk the repairs with you. At this time, the two valves that we did not repair and were not in the original scope of work were "weeping." A weeping valve is usually a very old valve that does not close completely, allowing water to pass through the diaphragm and out the lowest head on a continual basis. Normally we charge $275 per valve to replace a 1" valve with a commercial grade Rain Bird valve. You have 6 valves in need of replacement, and we quoted you $1200.00 to replace them. At the time of the walk, two completely different valves were stuck on (just like the original valve that we couldn't find and cost so much to fix), as well as the two weeping valves you were already aware of. At that point we offered to replace all of your 35 year old valves (6) for $1200.00, a savings of $300.00 over our normal price as a gesture of goodwill. We don't enjoy telling someone they have old, worn out valves and that it costs money to replace them. If we replaced the two stuck valves, the others would have pooped out very quickly, as they would have been fully pressurized, much like the eventual result of our initial repairs. The trencher ($250 to rent at a rental facility) and 4.5 hours of work ($570.00) combined with the initial effort ($480) brings us to the total bill that we presented to you for payment, which you did. You also had us install a brand new Rain Bird ESPme indoor controller @ $350.00 which you requested we defer payment on for 30 days. We agreed. We didn't charge you for the 4 heads we replaced, as an added bonus, or for the valve, pipe, etc. in the repair. We did our work at the agreed upon price. You took offence when we quoted you the cost of replacing the decrepit valves, which began to malfunction when we repaired the mainline and valve. To charge us with bait and switch tactics is summarily unfair and bordering on libel. I am a Accredited Member of the Better Business Bureau with an A+ rating for over 10 years, and I am bound to submit to arbitration for any dispute that arises from my business practices. Are you willing to submit to arbitration in this case? I am eager to resolve this matter at your earliest convenience. Why are you so surprised that 35 year old valves are failing? The day they were installed they all came out of the same box of valves. You recieved (or the past owner(s) of the property) an incredible lifetime for the valves. Why are you insinuating that I have swooped down on you to take advantage of you? All I have done is fully inform you every step of this process. I extended credit to you as a goodwill gesture of my sincere appreciation for your accepting our estimate of the initial work to be done. At no time did I say we could wave a magic wand and make your super-old valves new again. We bid the appropriate work at a competitive price and we fully informed you the entire time. Yet you blame us for your dilemma of having to replace old valves. Now I am stuck in an adversarial relationship where my professional reputation is being smeared. Fair is fair, and unfair is unfair. My contention is that you are unfairly smirching my company's reputation, and I request that you desist and if you are unwilling to apologize, to agree to binding arbitration by the Better Business Bureau. Robert Coleman, Owner, Double Eagle Sprinkler ps...you still owe our company $350.00. When is it your intention to pay the outstanding balance?

We know we had some problem areas that might require head replacement. The Technician basically came and walked around testing the heads. He came back and reported we had a bad valve that would require someone else from his company to come out. He presented us with a bill because our Angies deal was for the first half hour only

[member name removed], I'm chagrined at your report about our services last August. Our records indicate that we spent an hour at your home, capped one rotary spray head, and then used that rotary spray head to replace another head that was broken. We also walked the system, zone by zone. The Angie's List special covered the first 30 minutes, and we charged you for the additional time. We scheduled to come back the next day to replace the valve, but you decided to cancel. I'm at a loss how that is overcharging you to the extent you give us a D overall rating. May I request that you reconsider your rating? Respectully, Robert Coleman, Double Eagle Sprinkler
