Mr. Hargrave came and looked at our home, and we gave him a copy of our structural engineer's report. He then sent us his estimate by email that evening. We had 2 other estimates from the same engineer's report which were $ 2,000 and $4000.00 more for the same repair work. When they dug the twenty holes for the piers, they laid down plastic sheeting before beginning to hand dig the dirt. After the piers were installed and the dirt replaced in the holes, you could not see where the holes had been dug. There was no mess left anywhere around the foundation. This spring, we lost only 1 of the 8 large shrubs that were dug up during the repair work. I was in the house with our structural engineer as they jacked up our home. Our engineer was taking measurements as they jacked up the 20 piers. The cracks in the drywall inside and the cracks in the brick outside all went back together. The concrete patches on our patio and the brick repair work after the house was leveled out is beautiful. Hargrave sent a plumber out to inspect the plumbing to make sure the sewer and the potable water pipes had no issues or leaks as part of the plan. We would highly recommend Hargrave Custom Foundation Repair. They worked well with our structural engineer.
Description of Work: Hargrave Custom Foundation Repair installed 20 steel pipe piers around 3/4's of our foundation according to our structural engineer's report and plan.

Exceptional experience from the time Dan Hargrave came out to the house until Nick James and crew installed the piers. The crew did a great job of cleaning up. They fixed the cracked brick mortar the resulted from the house settling - matched it so perfectly that you can't tell where the mortar was repaired. Prompt, professional and courteous. Every question and concern was promptly addressed. My first and only call will be to Hargrave should we need any more work done.
Description of Work: Front of house had settled. Brick cracks on both sides of the house. Installed 11 exterior piers to level house.

I was very impressed with him. He was very punctual, honest, had high integrity, and was very knowledgeable about the options. However, I went with another vendor as I was able to negotiate a better price with them. They were both equally impressive, though.

Dan Hargrave came out and took floor measurements to see how much the floor was out of level, and a through walk thru outside. It was decided that 4 piers across the front and 3 around the corners would be enough. I was given a written quote via email the next day. I scheduled the repair for the next week. They were very prompt and very professional. They came at 730am and were finished by 1pm. A check of the floor level was done thru out the leveling. The plants that had to be dug up were replanted and the area was cleaned of all debris. It looked like nothing had been disturbed. The repair to the brick mortar was done as promised. Very pleased with this company and their employees.
Description of Work: They put in piers across the front of the house. The steel went down 25 feet to bedrock. Then some repairs were done to the cracked mortar between bricks.

I hired Hargrave after they provided a repair proposal. They accepted the recommendations of a foundation engineer that I had hired, and did not try to do extra unneeded repairs. They arrived promptly on the day and time scheduled. While they did have to tear up part of my flower beds, it was not nearly as extensive as expected and they cleaned up so well, you would have to know what to look for to know anything was actually done. They actually replaced some brick in a couple of spots even though they did not include that in their original estimate. The brick and mortor work was so good that it blended right in with the areas around what they fixed, although the original brickwork is 11 years old. Their original estimate included the need to epoxy a crack in the garage floor, but after the house was raised they decided it didn't need to be done, which saved me several hundred dollars!
Description of Work: Installed 8 steel pipe piers and jacked the house to the original position. fixed mortar cracks. Conducted plumbing tests after foundation repairs were completed.

The preparation and installation of the piers commenced on the agreed-to date of June 14, 2010. By midday June 16, the work was complete. You could barely tell that there was any work done at my house. All of the dirt was back in place, the one shrub was replanted, and all visible external cracks had closed back up and were repaired. Even one very large crack on the side of my home was hard to detect after the repair, and that's only because I knew it was there. Dan also arranged for the independent structural engineer I used initially to come back out for the actual leveling process to retake all readings. The engineer stated all requirements were met. A visit by a registered plumber was also included in order to check for plumbing leaks following the leveling process, of which there were none. Due to a possible redesign of my back patio, I elected to not have the drainage work done at that time. I was extremely please with the process and the end results. This company deserves a hard look by anyone requiring foundation repair.
Description of Work: Initially, I requested a bid to have my foundation repaired based on a report provided by an independent residential Structural Engineer. The report called for the installation of 25 steel piers around 75% of the perimeter of my home. I contacted HARGRAVE CUSTOM FOUNDATION REPAIR and spoke directly with Dan Hargrave. I explained what I was looking for and an appointment was set up for a visit, for which he was right on time. Dan spent just over an hour evaluating the job requirements and thoroughly explaining the process. As we walked around the house, Dan was able to tell me how much disruption there would be to my home's landscaping, which ended up being the removal of only one small shrub (subsequently replanted). Since I did not want the work to commence for a few weeks, Dan and I were able to lock in on a start date before he departed. I also wanted to have some drainage issues addressed as part of the process and Dan was willing to include that in the bid as an independent line item price. Not only did I review Dan's company on Angie's list, I also visited it on the BBB site and found them to be a Class "A" organization. I had requested similar bids from two additional firms and selected Hargrave based on overall value, client contact, experience, and professionalism. Dan and I communicated via email and that was how the bid offer was delivered, which helped to expedite the process. I intend to have some additional internal concrete floor repair work done and Dan Hargrave will be contacted for a quote. I recommend Hargrave Custom Foundation Repair to everyone.

I contacted Hargrave based on positive reports on Angie's List. I'm installing new flooring and had noticed a few cracks in my 1958 house, so I thought it would be prudent to see if there needs to be any foundation work done before finishing the flooring. Tim with Hargrave met with me at the agreed time and examined the house. He could have said I needed some work done and I would have believed him, but he said the cracks were normal for a house of this age and it didn't need anything done. He also didn't charge for the inspection. Hargrave certainly seems like a company you can trust.

Mr. Hargrave was a total gentlemen, a completely honest and honorable man. He asked me several probing questions regarding the crack and our foundation and other specific questions. After answering all his questions, he told me that I had nothing to worry about, that all was fine, and it wasn't necessary for him to do a service call (and having to charge me a lot of money) but that the minor crack was completely normal in my house. He could have said that he needed to come out and inspect it, charge me for the call and the inspection, but he gave me his professional recommendation over the telephone at no charge. I hope I can pay him back one day, and hopefully, I just did....through my wonderful review for this precious and honest man.
Description of Work: We were having a new wood floor installed and noticed a long foundation crack under our bedroom carpet. We panicked and the flooring comp. just wanted to lay down the flooring although a crack was present. We wanted a structural engineer to check it out first before we went ahead with any furather installation. We called 6 or 7 structural engineers via Angie's List and Hargrave is the ONLY one who called back within an hour. The others took days or weeks before returning our call, if they even called back at all.

This was our first experience with having to correct foundation problems relating to our home. To overcome our ignorance and fear of selecting the wrong solution provider to work on such a critical element, we spent a great deal of time on the Internet learning about the techniques employed in leveling foundations especially slabs which is what our foundation is. We spent in inordinate amount of time pre-qualifying companies for inclusion in the proposal process narrowing the field down to 4. We personally met with representatives from each and narrowed the list to 2. We then called 5 references for each and made our final choice based upon responses from the references. The references were all outstanding for Hargrave and what was so impressive is that we chose the references at random from a long list of references that spanned a number of years. In so far as the price was concerned, the independent PE that we hired to evaluate our foundation both before and after the work was performed told us that the price was very reasonable for all that Hargrave did. He also provided a final written report that showed before and after measurements of the foundation and concluded that the work was well within satisfactory limits. What I liked about the firm was that they were family owned and operated, i.e., they had "skin in the game". The company representative that made the proposal was a family member as was the crew foreman that did the actual leveling. They were professional from beginning to end, answered all my uninformed questions throughout the process, and, when the job was done, the clean-up was immaculate. Heaven forbid I should ever need their services again. But, if I do, I will call them without hesitation.
Description of Work: (1) Installation of 15 steel pipe piers and appropriate jacking (4 internal and 11 external). (2) Installation of 2 underground drainage pipes including installation of 3 surface drains. Also connected 3 gutter downspouts to drainage pipes.

Hargrave was excellent. Our structural engineer thought that the house might need as many as 23 piers inside and outside of the house. Dan Hargrave came out to bid the job when he said he would and was great to deal with. We scheduled the crew to come out and do the work based on the engineer's plans. Russ Hargrave and the crew came out when scheduled and began excavation inside and outside of the house. As the crew excavated outside the house they noticed that there were already some existing piers on the house and stopped work. Russ informed me of the situation, and felt we might not need to install all of the exterior piers called for, so we had the engineer come back out and look at the existing piers. The engineer agreed that we wouldn't need as many piers as he had originally planned and signed off on the changes which reduced the cost of the job by more than 50%. Hargrave could have easily not pointed out the existence of the existing piers to us and done the full job with us none the wiser. They were incredibly honest, knowledgeable and friendly to deal with. I would recommend them to anyone having work done on their foundation.

I consider their work to be of very high quality because they had to take out some trees to do their job and put everything back where it was. They also did an excellent job cleaning up. I'm especially happy with their warranty plan because they've never charged me for any follow-ups or checkups.

Dan Hargrave was very prompt in returning our call regarding a bid for services. He, personally, came to check out our foundation problems and was very thorough with explanations regarding our issues. We had obtained bids from two different companies, but decided Hargrave Foundation met our needs. The crew arrived exactly on time to start the project. They were very professional and all work was completed as promised.

It went very well, and we were very satisfied (delighted).
Description of Work: We had many dry rotted beams and joists under one part of our home, which is on pier and beam. The company supported the floor from below, removed bad wood, and replaced with new wood. We did not have to take up our carpet in that part of the house. They started the day after we called them which was grand because we had my mother-in-law moving back in when she was released from the hospital. They were very tidy, cleaned up every evening, checked the floor and all doors in that area to be sure they were level and not sticking. The crew members were polite and prompt.
