Installation of Steel Pipe Piers for Foundation Repair of concrete slab foundations (exterior & interior). Polyurethane foam injection to raise interior slabs as an alternate to interior pier installation. Polyurethane Foam Injection to raise sidewalks, driveways, patios, pool decks, etc.
This review is for Hargrave Custom Foundation repair and Drainage Correction. I was told that they would drill holes in inconspicuous areas on my decorative concrete patio and also that they would fill in the holes in such a way that it would match "pretty close". Neither of these things happened. When I asked if "anything could be done" to improve it they flatly refused and then immediately started pressuring me to pay the bill right then. I am as reasonable a person as you will ever find, but this really ticked me off. I would not ever recommend this company due to this.

We were very happy with Hargrave Custom Foundation Repair. We had an independent Structural Engineer evaluate our home first and draw up a plan; we then had 3 foundation companies recommended by neighbors provide quotes. Hargrave had the longest lead time to get on their schedule, but they were worth the wait. Dan Hargrave performed our evaluation, which matched the structural engineer's recommendation. We also liked that they only install steel piers. Dan provided a written proposal provided within 1 business day, which was the best price of the 3 we obtained even though his was for steel piers and the others would have used (generally less expensive) concrete pilings. In January 2020, we had 19 exterior piers installed, which took approximately two half-days. The first day, holes were dug and the brackets were attached to the slab foundation (all exterior work); on the second day, the house was lifted/leveled. They checked and adjusted to ensure all interior doors closed properly and door frames were square. The house is now level and many of the sheetrock and tile cracks are now closed. The holes were backfilled; because they used tarps to hold the dirt, there was no visible evidence that foundation work had been done - everything was clean and back in place when they left. We were extremely pleased and would not hesitate to recommend them.

Dan and Russ Hargrave run a fine operation. 100% phone pick-up, courteous response for appointments, questions, follow-up (Linda and Rita). Prompt appointment for review with Dan and measuring, reasonable price of less than $5,000 for steel pier solution. Dan took plenty of time to educate me on the soil, foundation, brick and drywall issues. Follow-up conversation with Russ yielded an appreciated visit to address additional garage and interior slab related questions. The work was scheduled within two weeks of me accepting their contract. Other companies were scheduling 30 days out. The team arrived as promised at 7:30 am and dug the required holes without any damage to bushes or plants. By 11 am, all brackets were attached to the foundation and then connected steel piers sunk to 33-36 feet depth until reaching 4,000 psi counter pressure. That's much deeper than my neighbor's concrete pilings pushed to only 20 feet a few years ago (different company). At 1 pm, supervisor Nick arrived to direct the lifting of the foundation. He has the magic touch ... and 30 year experience. Exterior brick cracks closed 75-90%, interior drywall cracks closed 90-100%. The foundation is at level and the interior was lifted sufficiently as well, so that no interior piers or under slab foam filling was necessary. By 2 pm the team had cleaned up the work side, filled the wholes and waved good-bye. No damage to sprinkler system, exterior lights, gas lines or in-ground wiring. Two days later the plumbing company came to inspect fresh water supply lines and sewer pipes (part of the Hargrave contract) for any sinking/lifting issues. No problems detected. This was quite a positive experience!
Description of Work: An independent engineer's report showed a nearly 3 inch drop in my foundation, requiring 10 to 14 exterior piers to lift. An additional 4 to 7 interior piers may be required if the exterior piers do not lift far enough into the interior foundation area. I obtained offers from five different companies, ranging from $3,300 to $12,400 for either pressed concrete pilings with or without steel rebar, drilled/poured concrete piers, single and double walled steel piers to be installed below or beside the foundation.

We had Dan Hargrave (and 2 other companies) come out to inspect our home and give us an estimate on potential repairs. Typically foundation companies start with measuring the elevation differences from a central point in the home to several other areas of the home to determine any problem areas. All 3 companies did this. What made Hargrave different is that his evaluation and suggestion made significantly more sense than the other companies. All companies agreed that the back wall of our home was dropping and needed support. However, the other 2 companies had both assumed (and had convinced me) that if the back wall needed to come up, the outside garage wall would need to come up as well. This made sense to me until Dan did his evaluation. Dan was the only person to measure the drop in the garage. The other stated they didn't measure the garage floor because of the intentional grade to allow drainage. This again made sense, but Dan measured to at least confirm the garage was level from side to side, taking the grade into account. What he determined was the outside garage wall was already high, and lifting the back wall would bring it back in line with the outside wall. Dan also noticed another issue that the other 2 companies hadn't seen due to a lack of measurements. However, he stated he would actually wait on that work, keep an eye on it and if it continued to get worse . . only then to have them back out to repair that area. Repairing it now would lead to additional separation inside and unless it got worse, he wouldn't suggest the work be done right now. This gave me a lot of faith that he truly recommending what he thought was best for me, and not what was best for his profits. They were on time when the work was scheduled to start and had the job completed in a few hours. The foreman was thorough and walked me through his decisions on how far to jack up the house and when to stop. The crew did an amazing job of cutting up our deck to do the repairs and putting it back together where it is almost impossible to see it had been removed. They even fixed the cracks in the brick, though they said they typically don't do that anymore. I couldn't be happier with the evaluation, recommendation, communication, work, clean up and price. I have already recommended them to others and would be happy to do so in the future.

.Excellent work and highly recommended. Arrived on time, went right to work with no standing around. Had 17 steel piers installed in about 8 hours across 2 days. Cleaned up their work and installed concrete patches with no left over mess. Initial inspection felt good; unlike the other company I spoke with that wasn't nearly as thorough and was more sale oriented

The team showed up on time. Went immediately to work. Caused no damage to landscape and plants just inches from their digging efforts. Installed the piers. Lifted the porch and seamlessly repaired the prior visable crack in the washed concrete service as an added bonus. They then cleaned the area and restored the ground around the porch so that any unsightly evidence of their efforts was eliminated. In Short: The did more than was asked for at a level of quality and professionalism unmatched. Will absolutely use again if ever needed and would highly recommend them to friends and neighbors.

I contacted Hargrave Custom Foundation along with four other foundation companies all of whom provide steel piers for foundation work that I knew I needed. Dan Hargrave came out and looked over the situation and worked me up a proposal to do the work. Dan stopped by several times in the next couple weeks to address variations in the work to be done. Russ came out on one occasion to test the thickness of slab and locate some interior beams. It was nice working with both of these fellows. A neighbor was also researching foundation work so we started comparing notes. We even requested bids from the same companies and decided to visit a job site of each of the bidders to see exactly how the work was performed. After visiting a Hargrave site, we came to realize that the support of the house was being transferred to the steel pier in one of two ways -- an angle bracket as shown in the literature and in some cases, a side mount plate with screws into the perimeter beam. it appeared to us that the side mount plate (and screws) was cracking the perimeter beam severely and under load could lose its "grip" on the perimeter beam. Further, it was being used too often and for the primarily purpose of saving time in installing the piers although the field foreman had an explanation for its use which was primarily to avoid having to deal with roots. This latter approach did not look like a very good way of supporting the house to us. I contacted Dan and talked to him about the matter. Dan said he leaves the decision as to which support to use to his field supervisor who had been with them a long time. There was no negotiating on avoiding the use of this attachment even with the offer to pay more for avoiding its use. I was told this is the way we do it. At this point I disqualified Hargrave Custom even though their price was very attractive (second lowest bidder) and Dan and Russ were great to work with.

Everyone at Hargrave was very nice and easy to work with. They were the ultimate professionals and had a lot of concern for protecting my property. The work was clean and quick. I had good advice every step of the way. They did not ask for any money until the job was completed. My engineer recommended them once I had eliminated about 6 other contractors and was trying to decide between Hargrave and one other one. He said I would be very pleased and I am. Based on the other reviews posted, I anticipate that if they need to return for any reason, they will take good care of us. I really feel paying the difference to get a high quality contractor like Hargrave was a good idea. Also using steel piers to bedrock is the only way to go.

Dan Hargrave & Co. had adjusted my home foundation 13 years ago. My warranty had expired, but they were willing to work with me on the price. They were quick to respond to my e-mail; and office staff were informative and friendly. The work crew replaced my. stone edging and soil as requested, and left the job site clean. The crew answered all my questions as I checked on their progress. Yes, I would use them again!

Dan arrived on time and inspected my home carefully. It turned out our home doesn't have any major issue so he suggested us to wait and observe if the crack will grow. Dan is very professional and honest. He didn't try to sell us anything. He didn't charge anything for coming out to take a look at the house. He even provided a report of the elevation for future reference. I would definitely consider him if there are foundation issues at my house in future.

We had used them several years ago on that same house. They made good on their guarantee. They did the west side of the house several years ago and they back a few years later and adjusted that as part of their guarantee. They guaranteed their old and new work that’s why we went with them. They cleaned up their mess when they were done. The price was comparable. They followed up when they said they would and I would assume they would do the same thing on the new work. Some people had a problem with what certain companies did where the slab had sink on the inside but since they put it on the outside and inside, I would not expect that to happen. Since this is foundation, it’s going to prove itself over time.

I got 3 estimates for foundation repair. Hargrave was easily the most impressive. Dan was by far the most knowledgeable and honest. He recommended fewer piers. He explained the importance of the pier going to bedrock instead of stopping because of static pressure on the sides of the pier. Dan explained how I could reduce my problems by better controlling the soil moisture. He explained that all systems may need adjustments over time, but a pier to bedrock is the most reliable system. Dan Hargrave was very professional. I felt very comfortable with their companies history and future. I have been able to better control my foundation movement with his advice, but if foundation repairs are required when I sell the house, I will definitely chose Hargrave.

I am a fairly new homeowner and can't rave enough about how gratful I am for the professionalism and honesty I received from Dan, a co-owner of Hargrave! I'd gotton three previous estimates, all between 8-12,000 dollars. None of them took the time, in lay terms, to explain the options I had and the fact that the work isn't urgent, especially since it was the beginning of the winter season and there may be more movement as the season progressed. He informed me to call the previous owner as well as the City to see if permits were applied for and that there was a good chance that the "pilings" that everyone is so interested in selling me, may still be under waranty from another company...So I will wait a few months and will most definitely call Hargrave if need be. Again, Dan was terrific!

Hargrave came out for a foundation inspection and were in line with our structural engineer's advice to install 14 piers and lift 2 existing ones. The consultation went well, so we decided to move forward with the work. It was a busy repair season, so we booked about 2 months out for the work. Ran into some bad weather the week of the work and had to cut the first day's work very short. But we were in constant communication with their office, and they came back as soon as the weather cleared and finished the rest of the work in one day. They were very prompt, professional, and courtesy. They were very respectful of our house and went the extra mile with the project. They dug out a bush that was near the work that I mentioned we were planning to get rid of, helped replace a screw in the front door to relevel it once the house was jacked, and leveled some sections of the yard with the extra dirt. Jacking went well, only new cracking on one wall near a window (the crack was already starting and they let me know beforehand that new cracks may form when the house is jacked). I'm overall pleased with the work. A little on the pricier side, but I think it was absolutely worth it for the quality of the materials, expertise, and level of customer service they provide.
Description of Work: Hargrave installed 14 steel piers and lifted 2 existing concrete piers.
