After seeing cracks in some interior walls I contacted Hargrave Foundation Repair. It was almost a month before anyone could come view my issue. They called and verified the appointment the morning they were coming. They arrived within 30 minutes of when they were scheduled. The representative was very knowledgeable and determined my issues were not bad enough to warrant foundation work at this time.
Description of Work: Estimate only. No work performed.

Caleb came to our house and was very professional and very nice. We have had so many people tell us things concerning the foundation on our home, we were so confused. We waited for this company because of their good reputation. They have done work for our many of our neighbors, and we had a structural engineer recommend them. All of our neighbors have been very pleased with them. Caleb told us we did not need any work done, that our issues were just settling issues that were normal. He took a great deal of time and explained everything to us. He told us that he wanted to treat us like he would wanted to be treated if it was home. He was very knowledgeable. He recommended some things we could do for the settling issues, which he said were very minor. I will use them in the future if we need foundation work down the line and will also recommend them to anyone I know that needs work on their foundation. Their honesty and good reputation says it all.
Description of Work: We were told we didn't need any foundation work.

We called three companies to come look at our house's foundation because we started getting cracks around the perimeter. Of the 3 called Hargrave came out, walked the house and gave us honest feedback that although we had some mild settling and fine cracks there was not need to repair the foundation, that what we were experiencing was natural settling. No hard sales to get us doing work that didn't need to be done. Should we need assistance in the future we feel they are extremely trustworthy, have been in business for a number of years and would call them back to do the work- if and when it's needed.

Workers arrived on time. Worked under 100+ degrees and carefully moved the bushes. The pier installation and the lifting was done pretty fast. Couple of bushes did not survive the movement, but the rose is blooming again. There was a sprinkle leaking after the repair, but it was fixed quickly after informed. So far no further issue found. Dan had been very responsive to any inquiry from the beginning to the end. They said what they'll do and did what they said.
Description of Work: Provided estimation after surveyed the house. Applied city permit. Moved the bushes and cut sprinkle pipes. Installed the steel piers. Lifted the house to the level where most cracks disappeared. Reconnected sprinkle pipes and put back the bushes. Tuckpoint mortar cracks. Perform plumbing test. Perform after-work reading and provide the reading sketch.

From start to finish I was pleased with the services provided by Hargrave. Dan Hargrave was very professional during the initial assessment and answered all my questions regarding the process. The engineer he sent out was very thorough and professional as well. Very polite and timely. The Hargrave staff did an excellent job of keeping the mess to a minimum as they dug the holes around the house they put the dirt on top of tarp. They too were patient to answer my questions while they were working. Salvador also explained the various types of equipment being used. As they were lifting the foundation Nick also took time to explain what they were doing and why. Once the foundation was raised to the point needed, the holes were then refilled and soil not able to fit back in the holes was placed around the foundation. The one shrub that had to be taken out was removed and appears to be recovering. The hole that had to be made in the garage was re-cemented. I appreciated that the staff took the time during the clean up to also repair the cracks in the mortar around several bricks. It was amazing to actually watch the foundation lift and a crack along a window frame close up. All the people connected with Hargrave have been very polite, thorough in their explanations, and professional. I would definitely recommend Hargrave to others who think their home may need foundation repair.
Description of Work: Mr. Hargrave came out and conducted an assessment on my home then provided me with a plan and estimated cost. Hargrave arranged for an engineer to come out to conduct a re-assessment to make sure the initial one was consistent with the second and they filed for city permits to conduct the foundation repair. On Oct 11 & 12 Hargrave employees came out and completed the foundation repair. The engineer then came out a second time to check to make sure the repair lifted the foundation adequately. Finally Hargrave had the plumber come out and test the pipes for any leaks.

Very happy with honest people. Other company we spoke with wanted to sign us up for work on the spot and required money down. Hargrave said the damage was not sufficient to require repair and if the house resettled, the repairs could actually be wasted as the house would no longer sit on the pilings.
Description of Work: Elevations were taken and house was inspected. Recommendation was to wait to have foundation work done as house could readjust to normal. Not enough change at this time to require repair.

Mr. Hargrave recommended five piers be placed beneath the chimney (as did our structural engineer) and suggested we could place an additional pier below the foundation due to a very slight slope in the corner where we were currently undergoing work for an erosion problem. He also warned us that anytime piers were placed beneath a home to raise the level of the home, it could create cracks in the flooring and/or sheetrock. We opted to go with the six piers as an added precaution at an additional cost of $450. The job itself took a little more than 1/2 a day. We were happy to learn that they reached bedrock within 6' to 7'. They did raise the corner of our house - so that we had no slope. Although we did have a few cracks appear in our tile and sheetrock - due to Mr. Hargrave's thoroughness, we knew that was a possibility, and much better than the possibility of our chimney falling on our neighbor's home! We were very pleased with the information we gained from the experience and thought the job was professionally done.
Description of Work: Mr. Dan Hargrave responded to our call that we had an immediate need for foundation repair due to a leaning chimney. He responded fairly quicky as did two other Angie's list service providers we contacted. Of the three he seemed the most thorough providing us with a written detailed report. All three had similar pricing within $200 of the total price. Due to the size of the chimney (6' wide and two stories tall) we had six steel piers installed beneath the chimney

This company is absolutely fantastic. Highly recommended. They came out in April of 2011 and said I just had some settling issues and gave me some recommendations to help. But then came the great Texas drought, had them come out in July as it had gotten much worse. They installed 8 piers, approximately 40 feet deep, average is 25 feet, had the job done in four or five hours. Cleaned up and a day or two later came up and fixed all the cracks in the mortar. I called them up after to let them know they missed one spot, not only did they fix that spot but they even fixed an area that was not related.

I know one of the owners of the company so I may be a little prejudice but they did excellent work. They gave me a little bit of a discount. They had plenty of workers and they got the job done in a day's time with a little touchup a day later. They were careful not to unnecessarily damage any shrubbery. They had to move one shrub that was partially already dead but they were careful with that. They cleaned up well and filled in all the holes. The price was reasonable and competitive. The method they used was probably better than some of the others I was told about. Once the work was scheduled, they were punctual.

Hargraves had to reschedule for a day later than previously agreed to (another job ran long) but this was not an inconvenience. Their crews arrived on time the following day, and did a very satisfactory job (digging, drilling, jacking, repairing nearby sprinkler lines, etc) They did a thorough job of recaulking the expansion joints and windows affected, redistributing dirt, replanting bushes and shrubs, repoured the aggregate patio that had been dug up, etc. Additionally, they had a separate plumbing company come out shortly afterward to inspect the integrity of the household plumbing and insure that it had not been negatively impacted by the foundation work. Getting foundation repair is a painful experience, but Hargrave did a wonderful job of it and I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone seeking such services.
Description of Work: we have a "spec" house built in 1993. The usual problems: doors sticking, doors not closing completely, small cracks appearing on walls and in ceilings started appearing early this summer. And most noteworthy; what we thought was just a scratch in our kitchen tile floor turned out to be the crack in our concrete slab pushing it's way through the tiles (which we kept tripping over!) Contracted an engineer who confirmed we had a problem with the foundation that watering with soaker hoses and waiting for rain was not going to fix . After much research, we contacted Hargrave Custom Foundation Repair. They were one of three companies that met with us and explained in detail what, when, why, how long it should take and how much.

In October of 2010 I had asked Hargrave, and some other companies, to come out and give me an estimate for foundation work. Dan Hargrave gave me an estimate, and while it wasn't the cheapest, I felt his professionalism was the best among the estimate representatives. However I didn't get the work done because some other things came up, so that by the time July of 2011 rolled around, our house had cracks and doors that would not close. By this time I'd been reading Angie's list and decided to get a structural engineer. We hired Jim McNeme of Geodynamics. He suggested the placement of the piers and gave us a report with all the information. He also gave us a list of foundation companies, and I was so happy to see Hargrave's name on his recommended list. We contacted Hargrave and they scheduled us for a Thursday/ Friday install. On Thursday their crew showed up and began digging the holes and placing brackets. They were very neat and dug up some shrubs as necessary. We had a deck out back, and they had to cut into it in order to place brackets under part of the garage wall. They finished installing approximately 17 piers on Thursday, and on Friday morning they finished the last two. They also designed special brackets for a back porch slab that the prior homeowner had enclosed as a sunroom. (They were the only company that addressed the back porch slab in my original set of estimates. That was another reason that I liked them.) Friday afternoon they coordinated with our structural engineer so that he could be on-site for the lifting. Jim McNeme and Nick from Hargrave worked really well together and lifted our house to get it back into better alignment. I was so pleased to be able to open and close doors again. Friday afternoon the crew began filling in holes and replacing shrubs. I felt they were very careful and considerate in doing that. They also replaced the boards that they had to cut to access under the deck. My only complaint in all of this was that I did not like the plumbing company, In-House plumbing, that came out to do the foundation leak test. Apparently (which I didn't realize when they came) the leak test is complimentary (Hargrave isn't paying them) and that is all they will do. In-House plumbing found a very small leak and their plumber said it was an easy fix and I could fix it myself. I'm not a plumber, and asked him could I pay him to fix it while he was here, and he told me no. I called their office and asked could I reschedule with them, and they said yes, but that I would have to pay them for another water leak test. That made me angry, and the owner ended up telling me that the fix was too complex and he did not want my business. So I called another plumbing company (I have given them an A report) and they had the leak fixed in 15 minutes. If I had to do it again I would request that Hargrave arrange the leak test with a different plumbing company. All in all with Hargrave it was a very good experience. I felt we were in good hands.
Description of Work: Hargrave installed 19 piers around our home, per the instructions of our structural engineer.

See above for full description of how it went. Hargrave and Hargrave are beyond honest. These are people I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
Description of Work: I called Hargrave and Hargrave out to our home 15 years ago when I notice some cracks. They came out promptly and said that the minor cracks were not foundation issues, but rather watering issues and general minor movement. In early May, 2011, I noticed a number of small cracks in the morter/brick in numerous places. I called Hargrave and Hargrave out again. I asked the woman that answered the telephone, if I should have an engineer's report done prior to the meeting and she said to wait until they looked at the property first (that saved me $350), then go from there. The representative from Hargrave and Hargrave that came out was so nice and courteous. I mentioned that H&H had come out 15 years earlier and that I really appreciated their honesty. I described the man that came out and he said it was probably the owner (Mr. Hargrave) that was out, that he had been with the company 23 years and Mr. Hargrave instilled integrity and honesty with his employees. He spent at least 45 minutes with me going all around my home and said there was not enough movement to adjust the foundation. That some of the cracking is as a result of some previous foundation work done 20 plus years ago and further, that can leave the area stressed and susceptible to movement. He recommended that if the cracks bothered us, to get a brick person out to grind out the old morter where the brick is cracked and put in new brick to shore it up. Also, said that we have sundried brick (rather than fire dried brick) and it is not as strong as fire dried. Sundried is more susceptible to movement. Said our cracks are just normal movement cracks. However, he did find one area that was related to drainage, where we had a gutter that was clogged and that during a rain water would pond there. Said that we should have that gutter replaced and/or contact a drainage person to determine if we needed drainage work. That ponding water can cause swelling and swelling can sometimes result in teh house lifting. Which is not good. Said a house can't be lowered. This is the second time that Hargrave and Hargrave has been to our home with good news. I would definitely recommend them as honest and above reproach. I would definitely use them for any foundation repair in the future. These are terrific people with high standards of integrity. Thank you, Hargrave and Hargrave.
