I found them on Angie's List. They bend over backwards to work with you. They listen to you, and treat your house like it's yours. They do the work as quickly as they can, and make it pleasant. They are knowledgeable and listen.

Although our renovation isn't complete, we wanted to share our experience as we continue to be wow'd each day. We had Ed & team prepared to start a room add on/kitchen remodel early 2012 when on January 3rd we had to call them to secure our home after our garage (which is not used for cars) was destroyed in a fire. Ed dropped everything to come help. Ed, Mauro & Ulysses have become part of our family. They have been here daily working on our home. The garage had to be completely redone, which they did a wonderful job. The entire inside of our home had to be repainted due to smoke damage, and it looks beautiful. Meantime during all this fire restoration, they were able to do our room add-on, which you can't tell its an addition. Also during this process, I have changed my mind on our kitchen remodel many times, I am surprised they still take the time to listen to me. Ed made a pretend Island for us in the kitchen so we could get used to our new space. Ed & team also work on what I call my "wish list" of things we'd like done but weren't in our original request. What I have appreciated is the CARE and the time Ed spends with us to make sure our home is left exactly how we wish it to be. We can see the passion Ed has for this business and the business of making houses into homes! We would love to share pictures of all the work done, and will write again soon after completion....
Description of Work: Complete garage clean up and renovation, new windows & paint. Room addition of new dining room. Enclosed kitchen pantry changed it to a storage area under steps. Painted entire inside of home, walls, doors, trim, stair railings, niches, etc. Floor tile work. Roof repair work. Mosaic wall on outside of home in backyard. Some electrical wiring modifications.

The project was a smooth ride. The principals. Ed and Keith, and their sidekick Junior, were always in attendance and did the work efficiently and pleasantly.. There was no hello, estimate and then other workers show up without supervision. They worked along and called me anytime a decision needed to be made about how to pursue a construction direction. The work was of the highest quality, and this is obvious to everyone who views the finished fence. The cleanup was superb, as my wife did not have anything to sweep up--if you know what I mean. That is a real complement. There were no extra unexplained charges as well. Can't say enough about the professional work that was done. I know the difference from past experience about was is/is not good. Use them!
Description of Work: I had a rock wall about 90 ft. long, which was topped with a flat concrete base. I wanted a wooden fence to be built on top of this wall instead of concrete/stone, wire fencing etc. The job was difficult as the wall was on a round curve for about forty feet, was on a downward grade for 30 ft and various parts of the wall met at a 90 degree angle. Besides the challenges of the wall, I wanted a wooden fence that would be placed horizontally and not vertically. I decided to use select, planed cedar 5 1/2 " by 6', which were cedar planks with a pointed top. The fellows, Ed, and Keith thought about the project for a week, explained all to me and started. They used steel posts driven into the concrete at intervals. They then built a frame using 1 by 2"s. They then took each cedar board, and cut it to measure as they placed all boards horizontally along the frame. What was spectacular about the project was the fact that they bent the boards along the curve, so that I now have a curved fence. I have people stopping weekly to ask about the fence and say it is terrific. Finally, they sealed it and cleaned up spic and span.

The project went great. I was very comfortable with the workers here.
Description of Work: I needed to have my living room-dining room ceiling repaired and repainted. I called Ed fron Nu-Tec and received an estimate. We scheduled the work and the team showed up on time, taking their time to move the furniture and prepare the area by covering up all the areas that were not being painted. The workers were polite and efficient. They were very particular about the work that they did. The work took two days, and they workers were busy the entire time. Ed came by several times to check to make sure the work was being done properly and advising his staff on the work being done. I was very impressed with the level of professionaism of all the workers and will definitly call them for work that needs to be done in the future.

They have not finished the job yet because of the holidays, but they took all the infomation they needed and will be placing the order for the materials. Once the recieve it, they will begin to tear down old pieces and will not accept any type of payment until the job is done. Once they get the materials in, we have been told that it will take about three days to finish the job.
Description of Work: They are going to redo some cabinets so we can put our TV in it.
This is a great company; we liked them from the time of estimate on through the finish. They are easy to work with, the estimate was accurate, they were very clean, and cleaned up each evening when they left. Always on time, and they worked only with us until the job was finished--no running around starting other jobs. GOOD WORKMANSHIP, too. Left a beautiful job!

Nu-Tec is an El Paso gem. They know their craft, they do high-quality work, they are trustworthy, they pay attention to detail, and they focus on one project at a time. They also do everything "by the book"--they obtained the necessary city permits and hired licensed electricians and plumbers. They worked with me to resolve any issues that arose during the process. They have a lot of creative ideas and are excellent problem solvers. The finished product was exquisite -- my floors, base mouldings, cabinets, countertops, and freshly painted walls are beautiful.
Description of Work: Nu-Tec did an extensive interior remodel of my home. They replaced the floors and base mouldings throughout most the house, painted the interior walls and ceilings, and remodeled the entire kitchen (replacing the cabinets and countertops and adding new backsplash and recess lights).
I would never have someone work on my home without consulting Ed first.
Description of Work: Project 2: Assisted in building my dream home from design to completion (2005) Ed was instrumental in every aspect of the project. His work consisted of but was not limited to the following: interior design – built-in entertainment center, custom master closet, custom ceiling design, built-in shelving in all bedrooms/office; custom cabinets and ceramic tile throughout, kitchen design and installation, 2 AC/Heat package units and duct work, rough-in and final plumbing and electrical, custom skylight (84 inch round bubble) installation, as well as the design and installation of a wrap-around, rough sawn timber back porch (900 sq. ft.). Ed was always punctual, professional, and he always left the work site cleaner than how he found it! Definitely the best quality work I've seen in and around El Paso.

Response from Nu-Tec R & C Inc
As per our estimate: $1,990.00 included the following 1. Modification of 10 + year old cabinets that were removed from a home and to be installed in a 1960's home that has total different dimensions. The cabinets to be installed are missing trim moldings, side and rear panels, and are generally in rough shape due to the demolition by others. 2. Installation of these wall and base cabinets with peninsula. 3. Sub zero refrigerator oak side panels- labor and material. 3. Build a new oak double oven cabinet with upper matching doors and lower drawer. The cost of labor and material for this cabinet alone is $700.00 + I am not upset that any given customer may not want to use Nu-Tec for their remodeling project, nor do I expect to work on every estimate that Nu-Tec submits. But I would like for our clients to understand that we have a daily rate that we must meet to cover insurance, payroll, daily expenses, overhead, and a small margin of profit, sometimes very small. The estimate as listed above does not even meet our daily rate + materials. Nu-Tec has 60 years worth of remodeling and building experience along with the tools needed to achieve a finished product. I honestly thought that I gave a reasonable estimate for this project. My personal opinion is that "Angie's List" should only take reports with letter grades on work performed and not on assumptions or personal opinions that a particular company is to costly.

I am 90 years old and not to knowledgly about remodeling-so I had a expert to help me. I put no money up front. He furnished a statement of work done and materials at the end of every week.He was on time and did outstanding work. I checked out several contractors- he wasent the lowest bid but he had done work for a retired Col a friend of mine and he told me he would hire him again if needed. That rep was good enough for me. After closing he told me if there was any thing that came up wrong to call him.Its a good feeling to know there are still people out there that are fare and honest.

The den, bedroom and half bath in the home of my mother had been badly damaged by a broken city water main which then flooded the lower level of the home. The EP Utility company backed away from financially assisting with the repair of the interior rock wall facade, which was now crumbling and pieces of rock were falling off. I had contacted a number of general contractors through Angie's List locally in El Paso and waited for a very LONG time before I was able to meet with ANY General contractors. Although Ed Clouse was away on vacation, he still phoned me and left me a message letting me know that he was out of town but that he would come to assess the damage and give me a bid as soon as he returned. Upon his return, Ed did just that and he came by and looked at all the water damage. After discussing a number of options we really wanted to maintain the look of the rock wall in the downstairs rooms. Ed took measurements of the large den wall and the perimeter and he took samples of the facade which had fallen off the wall and told me when I could expect an estimate. TWO days later Ed emailed the estimate AND sent a hard copy via snail mail! Nu-Tec was really on it and after getting the other contractors to submit a written estimate (which is apparently an ODD request for contractors here in El Paso to do for a potential job???) my mother was able to LOOK at all that was proposed and she then made an educated decision and chose to go with Nu-Tec. I emailed the news to Ed to let him know we wanted to work with Nu-Tec. But when Ed called back, he said his schedule was very full and tight and that they had another project beginning the first of the following week, and that would push us back into August. Mother and I were disappointed. Shortly there after, Ed phoned again and said that after discussing it with his partner, Keith that they would start the very next day and they would work to finish the facade repair by the weekend. They showed up early the next morning and began the prep process. The next day they continued the prep process but because the facade wasn't as severely damaged as we all thought, the prep part took less time. Next they moved into repairing mortar and staining the facade with a polyurethane. After that, they sealed all the repaired rock and mortar and the job was done! The rock walls look beautiful and because every thing was less effort than originally assessed, Nu-Tec even REDUCED the amount of the final invoice to save us approximately $400!!! Now THAT NEVER happens! Nu-Tec was a pleasure to work with and Ed Clouse took his time to explain to mother the process of repair. We hope to be using Nu-Tec again very soon!
Description of Work: The rock wall facade was sealed off with plastic to keep the dust and sediment from getting on and inside the den furnishing. The the rock wall facade was scraped and loose material (rock and mortar) was carefully removed. Then the facade was given a coating of polyurethane stain to match the rest of the rock and mortar as closely as possible. Finally, urethane sealant was applied to all the repaired areas. They cleaned the dust, debris and picked up all of their tools and equipment and left without a trace . . . except for the renewed facade!

This contractor only accepts one job at a time. Once they start the job, they're on the site daily until the job is finished. From a homeowner standpoint, Nu Tech is a dream general contractor. They stick to timelines, and pay attention to all details of project. They are also communicative and willing to discuss their progress on an ongoing basis. Their ability to listen to the homeowner is one of their greatest assets. We are very happy with our home addition and intend to hire Nu Tec again for a future project.
Description of Work: Contractor built an addition on existing home, including additional interior space and an open back porch. The detail work on the porch was done to mimic historical detail on the front porch of the house. Contractor handled all permits and met with historical preservation committee, in order to obtain permit for historical neighborhood.
Nutec's level of service and quality of work is superior. The owners not only oversee their employees, they work along side of them on the job. In addition, they are willing to take the time to suggest creative aspects of the job. You can be assured the job will be completed as outlined in their proposal. They make sure they clean up the work area on a daily basis. In addition, Mr. Clouse communicates with you on a daily basis as to the job progress and any concerns you might have. My job was completed on time and to my complete satisfaction! This is the second time they have completed a remodel for me. The first job, two years ago, included painting of the entire interior, replacement of interior doors. Replacement of a kitchen window and sliding glass door, in addition to retexturing the kitchen drywall. Replacement of a master bedroom deck. Their pride in their work, work ethic, quality of work and end result is why I once again went with them for the recently finished remodel described above. It is my plan to have them complete additional remodel work for me in the future.
Description of Work: Living room balcony extension, which included matching the existing wood floor (approximately 5-7 years old). Installing baseboard moldings and staining, filling and polyurethaning the new moldings. In addition, floor hangers needed to be installed to support the new floor joists. Decking over the floor joists and plywood to lay the wood floor. Electrical included installing three recessed canister light fixtures in the new ceiling downstairs. Removing and resizing 8 large windows. The new windows were smaller than the original windows. This included filling in the tops of the four top windows and raising the bottom of each window opening to accomoodated the new five-foot windows. Installing exterior wallboard with stucco and interior drywall and texture. Interior planter removal with concrete and tile installation. Removing rock and dirt. Pouring concrete and finishing smooth for floor tile installation. Installing floor tile, grouting and cleaning. French Door Replacement: Removal of existing door and re-sizing the door opening sides, top and bottom to fit the new doorframe. Installed interior moldings and painted new door.

These guys have done a lot of work for me--from painting to redoing a bathroom. The last time was a kitchen remodel and work in my living room shoring up a beam and building cabinets and painting. The work was done in a week--they arrive every day right on time, and spent so much time helping me to pick out the cabinets and tile. I LOVE the kitchen (and everything else they have done in my house). I like the fact that they do only one job at a time. Very trustworthy--in fact, one of them has my key, just in case there is an emergency and they need to get in.
Description of Work: THey have done several jobs for me--bathroom remodel, garage remodel, and kitchen remodel--as well as other small things (put in a floor, painting, building cabinets.
Not being professional decorators, my husband and I were unsure of what colors, tile, etc. to choose for our kitchen. Nu-Tec was able to guide us through our choices and the result is fantastic.
Description of Work: Nu-Tec remodelled our kitchen and also helped with our landscaping. Not only are the very professional, but they did a fantastic job. Our house sold within 24 hours because of the kitchen remodelling that they did. We highly recommend them.
The final results of the remodeling was exaclty what we expected (considering the age of the house). We are very pleased. It was worth the waiting.
Description of Work: We did extensive remodeling to our bathrooms and basement. Ed & Keith are so professional. Every day for a couple of months they showed up on time and before the end of the day they will clean up making the remodeling transition much easier.
The owners are the most professional and talented I've encountered. Waiting for them, was well worth it. They work on one home at a time and thus you have their full attention. An owner shows up with workers every day. They are always on time, their estimates are accurate and they complete their work on time...actually, they were so good that I kept adding things for them to do (tiling, painting other rooms, adding skylights, adding lights to my large skylight, etc.). Their ideas are terrific and although I hired a professional designer, I also followed many of their ideas. They worked well with my designer. Both owners are extremely talented and a joy to work with. Their staff cleaned up each day. They also fixed a number of things in our home that they didn't charge me for. They are so nice! What started out as a bathroom remodeling job ended up extending to multiple rooms. Since Ed & Keith (the owners) are so focused on pleasing their customer, sometimes the time frame gets extended (with additional jobs). Therefore, sometimes they are "late" for the next client's job. Believe me, as I said, they are worth the wait!! This past year (2010) they came back and fixed a problem that my landscape contractor caused. It was a big problem, but Ed & Keith were great. They replace a 15 foot beam on our pergula and stopped water from seeping into my neighbor's home (caused by improper sealing of the raised flower bed by our common wall). Ed & Keith seem to be experts of many many things! This is my 6th home and I've done remodeling on all six. This was my first time to use Nutec. I will NEVER use anyone else!! They rate an A++.
Description of Work: Bathroom enlargement & remodeling Created an office/library room Remodeled entry Remodeled laundry room Extensive tiling including kitchen, new rooms, outside front door Added skylights Interior painting Enhanced garage including adding cabinets Outside, fixed pergula and water issues caused by the last company

Nu-Tec knows what they're doing and I would highly recommend that you give them a call !!
Description of Work: Our house was built in the mid 1980's and unfortunately not much has been done to update. A couple of years ago the master bathroom was remodeled by Nu-Tec. Just a whole new look with tiled shower and bench, grab bar (Ed reminded me that even if you think you don't need a grab bar they're just so handy). We now have a large sky light also. So a few weeks ago I asked him to do some updating in my kitchen. The cabinet doors were sanded, stained, and varnished. I was happy with that but he made me think about knobs for all the doors and drawers and they look great !! So now we have a new stainless steel double sink with up to date faucet (that takes us older girls a little longer to learn to use) and new counter tops that I think are so beautiful. Not an expensive granite just a quality laminate. He reminded me that I have to keep all the junk off the counter tops, so my kitchen looks so nice. He also repaired a few tile in the floor and wallaaaa... we're looking good here now !!! Our next project in the fall will be the 2nd bathroom and does he have great ideas for it. Can't wait !!

It went very well. They were always there on time and did all the work to my satisfaction. They told me what was happening and told me when we had to wait for the inspectors, etc. I am pleased w ith the job that they did.
Description of Work: Nu-TeIt c did a major addition on my home. They built a studio apartment and a storage room onto my home. From scratch. A great room that includes the bedroom, bath and a full kitchen. They tied it into my house, including the roof. This job was a major one and took approximately 2 months.
