I was not impressed.
Description of Work: I bought the $49 deal from Angie's list which included $100 toward any service. Two plumbers came, one was learning the trade. The replaced the part that needed replaced and charged me about $100.00 for a $20.00 part, so in essence they charged me $200.00 a $20 part. Great deal.

Last winter, we had an indication that our heating unit was not functioning. I called Force Home Services telling them the problem. They said they would "TRY" to get a service man here. The problem was we were in the middle of an ice storm that had shut the city down. It was 10 degrees with a strong north wind. The service man arrived about 30 minutes later. After checking the system, he found no malfunction. He did find our water heater was leaking into the drip pan and was about to overflow. The overflow drain had frozen shut. We called the plumber with Force Home Services. He lived about 20 miles away. He traveled in the ice storm and repaired the water heater. We had hot water. I called Force Home Services for a spring tune-up of the air conditioning systems. An appointment was set. The service person showed up on time and completed the work.
Description of Work: Force Home Services performed a spring checkup on my 3 AC units, replaced filters, and installed cutoffs in the condensation pans of two units.

The technician, Buddy, was punctual and extremely professional. The invoice was the exact amount quoted on the phone (with Angie's List coupon) when I made the appointment. Buddy explained everything he was doing and even took digital pictures of areas of concern. He made recommendations, but never tried to aggressively upsell services or try to convince me something needed repair when it didn't. I received a written invoice with a full description of what was serviced. He answered all my questions and even personally showed me the areas of concern, namely minor points of air leakage in my ductwork system. Very informative, professional and never pushy. Will certainly use this company again.

Technician arrived on time. He went up into my attic and looked around. Then he came down and gave me an estimate of how much it would cost to fix dampers and vents/grills. The estimate: $407.00. These are parts you can get at Lowe's and if you're so inclined, do it yourself. But the price wasn't the most disappointing part. While chit chatting when he was filling out his paperwork, I asked him if he liked working for Air Force H&A -- his answer: "I don't like their business practices." I asked if they overpriced parts or something and he said "yes." I used to work for a commercial restaurant equipment company and I know people have to make a profit, but if the tech would tell that to a customer, what else is he going to tell about the company? Or is this just a case of a poor technician? I'll never know -- we never called them back. To be fair, the company might be great -- a bit over priced, but if their own technician doesn't like them -- why should I?

Response from Force Home Services
My name is Ron Strelke and I am the owner Air Force Heating & Air Conditioning. I was very concerned about this report and contacted the member to see if we could redeem ourselves if she had not already had the work done by another company. The member was very helpful in explaining her concerns and it was apparent that we had an unhappy technician ( left the company two months later) that did not bother to explain the work that was recommended nor the value associated. I explained what the work entailed, the anticipated results and the value relative to cost. The member was willing to let us send out another technician to demonstrate our normal process on a service call and to properly diagnose their problem and thoroughly explain the recommendation. By all accounts the member was pleased with our follow up visit and I hope that we have regained their confidence to the extent that they are Air Force customers. It is Air Force policy that if we have a dissatisfied customer we will do everything within our power to resolve the issue or refund their money. Often times we don't know when there is a problem until the customer speaks out. Thank you to this member for speaking out and giving us the opportunity to redeem ourselves.

After much deliberation we ended up choosing Air Force Heating and AC. Deliberated long and hard for several weeks once AC went out downstairs - on just to replace certain broken down major components or take advantage of government incentives and replace whole system. Install was supposed to take a few days but ended up taking like the whole week. With several follow-ups necessary beyond the first week. The install wasn't the best experience we have ever been through. A certain individual made the experience miserable. But I leave that label on one person and can't discount the professionalism exhibited by others. During the first night we were able to run the AC, I went upstairs in the evening and noticed the drip pan was full of water. I immediately called the owner and he said to cut the system off. Before I could do that the whole pan flipped over and water poured all over the floor and dripped through the ceiling in the downstairs kitchen. So we were without AC again but a technician ended up coming over late in the evening. The drip-pan wasn't installed high enough to allow it to drain to the outside. On top of that none of the safety features designed to cut of the system if water in the pan got too much worked. The problem was supposedly a clogged drain that goes to the bathroom sink. That line was blown out. I must mention that we did have the spring maintenance check done earlier in the year. Along with that issue, there was a problem with a controller blowing fuses when the system was shutdown. Anyway we got back and running that evening. Along the way, one of the workers fell through the roof with their foot and made a nice hole in the kitchen. I can understand how this can happen and the person who did this was very apologetic. The hole ended getting fixed within about a week. The water spots in the kitchen ceiling were also fixed and there isn't any signs of water spots on the ceiling. The next night after our water spill I went to check the unit in the attic again. I turned off the wrong switch, meant to turn off the light switch but turned off the furnace switch. I waited and waited and turned it back on but the system would not come back on. Seemed we had a blown fuse again. I called the owner and all the technicians were busy but the owner came out. Later a technician came out and the fuse was replaced. This wasn't the last of the fuses blowing. We ended up running into this several times in the coming month. What finally fixed it was a new wire was run from the outside unit to the inside unit. During the process, the main installer made us feel inferior with questions we had. I felt it was a major house upgrade and we felt that it wasn't inconceivable for us to understand how the system worked. Without getting to specifics it was a frustrating experience dealing with this person. I repeat myself it wasn't a frustrating experience dealing with the owner or any of the technicians or even any of the other installers. Frustration did boil over once the main installer wanted us to sign off on the final paper-work. No walk-through was going to be done. He just wanted to get out of there. What upset me the most is that there was dripping water from the outside drain coming from the inside coil pan. It wasn't like a drip either. The installer would not even look and said it was just part of the process of the new humidification system we had. Anyway he ended up leaving very upset when I wouldn't sign the papers. The next day the water leaking in the drain was fixed. I can't remember what was all done but I know some of the piping underneath the inside coil/furnace was redone. It has almost been a year and the follow-up visits for problems have pretty much ceased. I am not totally convinced that the humidification control works like it is supposed to but it might just be the way it is. Going from two-systems to one-systems was a concern. But I was a believer in doing the heat-load calculation and Air-Force believed it showed our house only needed one system. So far it seems to be case. The AC has kept up well for the most part in maintaining cooling. I think we keep our house cooler now and the electricity bill isn't any more. This is on a 2900 sq. ft house. For heating, I would have expected the furnace to keep the house warmer, especially in our main down-stairs living room. The specs we were given it should be able to maintain (as in heat indoors above outside temp) weren't really achieved. But it isn't any worse than what we had before. Overall I wish I could break-down the rating a little more. I am close to a C on some items but can't see to give that grade. Overall experience might be more like a B-. We had issues and I think Air Force did their best to make sure those issues in our install were resolved. I would say we are fairly happy with our system. A comment about customer service. They are very polite and friendly. My only issue is on follow-up. I have had a few issues were I just gave up in getting something completed. One was the thermostat rebate with the city. I would follow-up with Air Force and then the city and then Air Force and then Air Force and finally I just said getting $50 back for our electronically controlled thermostats wasn't work my time anymore. Another issue was with a coupon we had for our tune-up in the spring of 09. I was told over and over again a refund check for our coupon was mailed but we would never get it. Finally one of the technicians just gave us credit for the coupon on one his visits.
Description of Work: New AC system installed. Two story house had two units and went to one unit for the whole house. Electronic zoning with three thermostatically controlled zones. Amana 16 seer ASX 2 stage condensing unite - 5 Ton. High efficiency variable speed furnace installed (95% AFUE with dehumidification) along with new inside coil.

I didn't spend much time with the man who came out and assessed the job. But he was very communicative with my son and my son was able to get all our questions answered. That's why we chose them. They did a really good job. There was a problem with it, but we were generally happy with them and would probably use them again. They were not very responsive. It took them a while to resolve the one issue that we had. The price included a few other things and replacing the air handling unit of the furnace. I would recommend them to others.

We called quite a few people before them for an estimate and they all said that we would have to replace our entire unit which would cost about $10,000. We then hired Air Force heating & AC to come out for an estimate. The owner of the company came, he was quick, and he was great. He took a look at the unit and said that all we needed was a new motor and that he had one in his truck that just cost about $ 120. He was wonderful. He gave us all the options and also did mention that our unit was old and he could replace it, but replacing the motor would do for a while and that he will not be able to give us any guarantee on how long it will last and also that eventually we would have to replace our unit. We decided to go with the motor replacement for now. We were very satisfied with the overall experience.

We wanted someone to look at our HVAC system, check it out, and make suggestions regarding any problems or deficiencies. I called the office about a week ago as part of calling a number of HVAC service companies. I then stopped in on Monday morning. "Jeanette" and "Rhandi", the gals in the office, are definitely an asset to this company. All my questions were answered and we ended up with a scheduled appointment for early that afternoon. After the system was checked out, Buddy and I discussed a number of items. We talked about the type of air filter we were using for the system and a suggestion was made to seal our ductwork as the taping was beginning to part. We elected to postpone this because of other work we want to get done with the ductwork.
Description of Work: The technician, "Buddy", arrived as scheduled. He proceeded to check out the furnace, ductwork and all the attic hardware. Outside the air conditioning components were checked to be in specification, and the cooling fins were cleaned. Both the heat and A/C were checked operationally.
