The system was installed pretty quickly by a friendly technician. But now we have a problem with Monitronics breaching their own contract. We signed a contract with Life Valued and were billed by Vision Security at the rate of $60/mo. This rate was to be in effect for 12 months, after which the company may present incremental increases in the rate by giving us written notice 30 days prior to an increase. We would have to option decline the increase by responding in writing within 20 days. Without any notice whatsoever, after 10 months we are now being billed $64.26 by Monitronics (and somehow another company - Northstar Alarm is involved. I've written to the Monitronics 3 times and requested they communicate the reason for these changes in writing, which they apparently will not do. They do leave phone messages asking us to call a service center, but I don't have much trust in anything said over the phone and want communication in writing. In the meantime I have stopped payments to this company. Up until now I've resisted posting negative comments or reviews anywhere. But since Monitronics refuses to honor their own contract, and continues to harass us for more money and are now tacking on additional fees, I think potential customers should be aware of what I consider shady business practices.

I called a month prior to closing to get service transferred from the previous owner. I negotiated a monthly monitoring price and finally a service call time and date. The tech showed up (4 weeks later) and said he couldn't do anything because I didn't have a land line and needed to upgrade the equipment for cell service. He said I needed to contact the company and negotiate a price on the installation and new equipment. I attempted this call the next week for several days. I was on hold at one point 43 minutes waiting for someone to assist me. After MANY attempts to contact them I finally got through to someone but was transferred 4 times. We negotiated a price and scheduled an installation date and time, again 3 weeks later. I since tried to contact the company as the installation time was a week out just to confirm the date. At this point I don't trust they will show up when scheduled. I tried contacting the company several times but to just be on hold for over 25 minutes. I now have decided to cancel my contract with this company and go with someone else. Even though the pricing was the best I could find, I will pay the additional 15.00 a month with another company just to have contact with this company when I have questions or concerns. I would not recommend Monitronics to anyone. If this is the service I receive as a new customer, I can imagine what the service will be after installation. So, If I can get in touch with them, I will cancel my contract.... wish me luck!

I'm sorry I actually put everything in first question box?
Description of Work: In order to cancel our service we had to put in writing 30 days & we had a dispute over them saying we owed money & we had already taken care of that issue. It was our first Alarm System & we thought we were getting a good deal. They do not let you go easy !! We built new home & didn't need them anymore. Also,, we got my Mother same system & she moved & it was not as bad but I do not suggest them to anyone. Once they get you they do not let you go easy.

I originally signed up with monitronics through a local alarm company Hawkeye in February 2012 for what was described by the Hawkeye sales person as a 2 year monitoring contract. Initially there were major problems when they did not enter the password correctly and Monitronix would not correct the error based on my request and Hawkeye would not respond because their office was only open on a limited basis. Later after 2 major problems I cancelled monitronics by writing a letter of cancellation with more than 30 days notice mailed by registered mail on December 16, 2014. On 2 different occasions when I cancelled a false alarm, monitronics hung up on me and still sent the police to my house. monitronics and Hawkeye are both terrible customer service. Signing up with monitronics is like signing up to be blackmailed. Either you pay them for service you do not want and have not received or it will negatively affect your credit report. I sent them a 30 day termination notice to be effective January 20, 2015 and they turned the monitoring off my panel at that time because it would not activate. I have spent hours on the phone and finally got the answer that despite what I was told by Hawkeye as far as the monitoring contract being for 2 years their version is for 3 years and I still owe them. Even though they cut the service on 1/20/2015 I still owe them for the month after that. What is really galling is that when you are on hold waiting for their socalled customer service you have to listen to "we are number one in customer service" over and over. Just look at all the negative reviews. They are the worst. When I called Hawkeye to complain and get them to straighten the mess out, they told me "we don't even use monitronics any longer because of all the problems, we use a different monitoring company now". THANKS A LOT.
Description of Work: customer service wait is 45 minutes every time no matter what time you call. they still send the police even when you cancel a false alarm which puts you at risk of charges from the police and wastes city resources and puts you at risk of not being taken seriously if there is a real issue.

They are superb. I highly recommend them. They came in and did what they were supposed to do. They did a really good job. That's what we want when we are having someone do something for us. I did have it monitored; I have never had one monitored before. I didn’t have the one I had before monitored, but I do now. I like it; it does real good. We have to be sure to hit the right numbers. The price was very reasonable. The quality was very good. With regard to responsiveness, they were right on target. I believe their punctuality was right on target. I would absolutely use them again in the future.

We are paying the bill to get them off our back.
Description of Work: Our experience with Monitronics was dismal at best. The alarm system never worked properly but they wanted to charge us to come out and fix it. We canceled the service in December but have continued to get bills. When we spoke with them to cancel they said we didn't need to pay anything further. After we got two more bills we contacted them. The customer service rep we spoke to told us he wouldn't credit the account for $93.23 until he went back and listened to the tape from my husband's conversation when the service was canceled. They never called back. But we received another bill with a note that it was being sent to a collection agency if we didn't pay immediately. We will pay - but want to warn others - this is NOT a reputable company. And once you get sucked into their system there is no easy way out!

The technician came out and while we were talking, he had the products available. He had a lot of different options that we could choose from. I preferred to have a simpler system that included doors and a few windows and it is wireless. He showed us how to set it up to arm and disarm from our phone. My husband gets alerts on his phone whenever certain doors are opened when we aren't home. It was really good overall and the technician was very informative. He left us his card with his cell phone number on it.

Could have been better. Installers did not set cameras where I wanted them. Sales person said one thing installers said another. The position of the smoke detector while the salesman said we could do one thing the installer said another. I then had to call in a electrician to pull wires, disconnect wires for another $300 to accommodate the installation pushing the installation another day for the alarm crew, which they were not happy rearranging their schedule to install the smoke detector. Really did not explain the system fully. Ran into another sales rep at home show and asked questions about our system. He was polite not to say anything negative but I really feel the contact sales person we dealt with did not sell me what I wanted but probably what he had in stock, not taking that effort to provide me what I needed. Really very expensive system for outdated equipment, problem with contracted sales company. Did not provide manuals. We had to print out hundreds of pages from the website. When I called about one of the cameras malfunctioning I recd a canned answer with no reason or explanation. When asking about changing the password, same response that I was to leave it. Anyone watch 60 minutes lately? I am not happy with my system. Installers bundled contacts when they should be separate. I still do not feel secure after spending that kind of money.

It took the gentleman 3-4 hours to install a new master box, convert previously installed devices to new system and install new devices. System includes door alarms, motion detectors, fire alarm detector, and security infrared and light camera. New system is wireless.

We moved and they would not tranfer system components or install new components now we are in a house with less rpotection and paying the same ridiculous fee. tried to negotiate out of the contract and they would not even discuss it, finally we said ok we will pay for it but we want what we are paying for. tech came out did not explain a d*** thing on how to operate it and left saying we where stuck with what we have. do not use this company they are crooks

We pay $40 monthly for their alarm system. They are excellent. I love the alarm system. It is set up to talk any time a door is opened, it will tell us which door is open. They are great. They respond right away every time we need them.

The installation was free and the monthly bill is like $42, but we do not plan on renewing it. It is just basic protection. We actually do not see anybody from their company or needed them to come out.

Juan Ramos, from MySmart Security, was professional and pleasant to deal with. Throughout the presentation and the installation he patiently explained everything he was doing as he did it. He did not bad mouth his competitors when I asked why I should go with him and not ADT or AT&T. He simply stated why his company and Monitronics would be the best choice. I have referred him to our friends who were amazed to what we got installed. Also they were very interested when they heard of the guarantee of no increase if you sign up for 5 years. Their current company, which they have been using for 10 years, had increased their monthly monitoring rate on a regular basis and are paying more for less than what we received.
Description of Work: The rep from My Smart Security did the estimate and the installation of the equipment. Monitronic will be doing the monitoring.

Contracted with Benchmark Security and Monitronics for security monitoring services for our home. On July 1st, decided to discontinue the service as our home was for sale, and we did not want to worry about shutting off and on the system while people were viewing our home. I have called Monitronics three times asking to cancel. They also requested I send a letter in writing, which I did confirming the cancellation. I continue to to receive text messages, phones calls and bills with late fees for service not being provided (or used). This reminds me of the old days of AOL, when it was near most impossible to cancel the service. They give you a big runaround, and keep billing. The people on the phone are very professional in manner, but unfortunately, nothing ever gets resolved. I would not recommend using this service, unless of course you like paying for services not being used.

I've had no problems with my alarm service. It has been a while. They gave me a discount because I was going to have all of my stuff changed to Time Warner, because I was getting Internet and all that. So they gave me a discount. So I kept them. They gave me a good discount. It costs me about $30 or $40 per month. They've been very good to me.
Description of Work: I use Monitronics Security. I have a fire alarm, the back and front door alarm. I have keypad for my house. To get in and out, you can hit it and turn it on and off from the keypad.

We were forced to use Monitronics Home Security Systems after being persuaded by a door to door salesman back in 2010 to switch from ADT to PLATINUM PROTECTION(this is who MONITRONICS partnered with). We were told we were signing a 1 year contract and after that could switch if we'd like. They pulled out all of our ADT equipment, left holes we had to patch and repaint and replaced with their GE models of Security equipment. Their boxes/units were so bright and lit up our entire room. We had to put a box over it at night because felt like we had a light on in our bedroom. We then bagain paying our $53.99 per month directly from our checking acct.. Thankfully never needing our security system we paid effortlessly via direct deposit for 4 years diligently. I called them today to explain we need to cancel because we are moving into a condo and will not longer be needing their services. They explained that i should have read the fine print?we had actually signed a 5 year contract and would be forced to pay for the next 9 months whether we will be needing their services or not.. I was sick to my stomach. I asked the customer service rep?people actually are willing to sign 5 year contracts?? I told him we would have never willingly signed a 5 year contract. We had a system installed in our home, including video monitoring. All was fine for the first few months. The moment we had the first problem, it all went downhill. It is a very lengthy story so the bullet points are below. -Scheduling with this company is an absolute joke. The soonest they have availability to fix your system is a month out. So you are literally without a security system, yet still paying for it, for at least a month. There's no such thing as "priority" even when it's their fault. However in our situation, we are going on 4 months now without service. -They pass the buck. There is so much finger pointing as to whose "fault it is" that the system is broken, it's ridiculous. Lots of back and forth between Monitronics and Point Security, who installed our system. Monitronics monitors after the system is installed, just FYI. -It's been such a horrible experience, we would not recommend this company to anyone. And if you already have them, I hope your experience is much better than ours and you actually have a peace of mind when you go to sleep at night. HERE IS THE UPDATE: John in the corporate office reached out to me directly after viewing the above review. He was very professional, understanding, and eager to rectify the situation. There were a couple glitches after our initial conversation that were very frustrating, but ended up being more of a timing issue than anything else. After I called him back to address those issues, he assured me it would be handled and he made it a priority. He called me at the end of that same business day with resolution and then followed up a couple days later. I was very impressed with him and it definitely made me think more highly of the company. I cannot give my overrall review an A because of how bad it was in the beginning, but they did go above and beyond to help us after the fact. As of right now, we are staying with them for our security services.

We called on Saturday to add an additional motion detector in the garage to the security system in the house. A 9/12 date at 9 AM for the installation was made. The installer showed up on time, installed the motion detector, tested it and added it to the existing Monitronics Security system. The cost was considerably lower than we had been told when we called to order a new detector.
Description of Work: Installed and motion detector in our garage.
