I signed a four year contract and I contacted them to cancel the service and they offered me a discount to buy out the contract, but not to cancel the service.

AVOID MONITRONICS They provide a service that is far more expensive than alarm force. They give false information to lure you into a three year contract and then give you the hidden fees. I had them for three years. Now they said I had to provide in writing a 30 day notification. Another scam. My phone line was cut, so i did not receive services. They will not tell you about a loss of signal. The only good quality is their ability to take your money.

I have been a customer of theirs for 15 years. Completely remodeled our home over the last 10 months. Called for a tech, 4 times over a month's time, to come out and hardwire the system back in. Made 4 appointments and the tech never showed up. Each time I call Monitronics I had to go over the complete process EACH AND EVERY TIME so they could direct me to the proper person. You would think they would have documented every time I called so I did not have to go through this. In July I called for the last time and explained that the electricians were finishing up their work and the drywall guys were ready to start, could they please send someone. No one showed up. Call ADT the next day. They sent someone out that afternoon and had a tech here the next day to do the work. I called Monitronics back to cancel my service, which I had been paying for since March when there weren't ever walls, doors or windows in my house, they said I had to send a letter. I did, they never received it, called me in January and I sent another. I have NEVER had a contract with them. Said I owe 104.00, I said NO so we agreed to 50.00. It is just a terrible way to do business. They cost me in back month's paid and for the NEW system I had to have installed.

I do NOT recommend this company to anyone who values ethical practices. A monitronics sales rep set up a home appnt. with my mother who's in the beginning stages of dementia. When my mother told me she was going to have the system installed both my sister from California and I contacted Monitronic's sales rep and explained that my mother wasn't capable of understanding the alarm's operational steps. We asked them to install the alarm system. A week later my mother told me she had set up an appointment to have the alarm installed. Once again, I reiterated to the Monitroincs rep my mom's condition and not to install it. To my utter dismay and disappointment Monitronics installed the system. Now my mother has signed a contract and paying $40 a month for a system she doesn't have the ability to operate. Given Monitronics was more than aware of my mother's condition and chose to install the system anyway tells me they will take advantage of other elderly like my mother. THIS REPORT IS A WARNING TO OTHER FAMILIES who have elderly relatives. Watch out for this company. They will solicit your family member by phone, and their only concern is making the buck despite who they take advantage of.

The security system was already installed when I signed up. Monotronics screwed up my billing account and I asked several times to have them check into the problem. I was told they would have a supervisor check into the problem. I never heard from anyone. I had to finally call and go through a couple of departments to have the problem fixed. The did correct the problem, but not the way I wanted them to. In regard to the security system, we were out of town and the alarm went off. They left a note on the door stating they couldn't get in the back yard to check the alarm that tripped, so they assumed everything was fine. Our pool and lawn maintenance companies each come to our home once a week whether we are home or not - they NEVER have a problem getting access to our back yard. Monotronics has the worst customer service I have had in a long time from a service company. I am stuck in a two year contract with them or I would change service providers.

They did the job at a reasonable price. I have had it put in four months ago. It actually costs nothing to put it in. I pay $40 for a monthly maintenance over a period of 3 years and after that I can own the system. I can then either continue with the service or cancel the service. It is like having a 3 year contract with them. My next door neighbor and the neighbor across the street use the same company and we are all quite satisfied with what they do. They came in and they did a very professional job. I have had no activities so far. The alarm doesn't go off when I don't want it to go off. The system is very easy to use. I checked out other companies and they are probably the most reasonable, especially in the installation cost. The quality was good and I have no problems with of the devices whatsoever. They are easy to use and they do the job. My alarm went off one time when I didn't want it to go off. I opened the door inadvertently and they were right on the phone with me. When they came on the phone, it came over on the loudspeaker. They were right there on the loudspeaker making sure that it was just an accident that happened and no one had broken into the house. They were punctual. The man that came in and installed was extremely professional. I am very happy with it. I have a contract with them and I will definitely continue to use them.
Description of Work: The alarm system company came out and put a whole new alarm system in for me. They put sensors on my doors and windows and a glass-break sensor downstairs that will go off in case somebody breaks the glass.

A week or a two ago in the morning, I heard a big boom outside my house and I didn?t know as to what it was. I didn?t know if somebody had slammed my door or if somebody had picked up a pot from my front porch and thrown it against my house. My dogs ran off and I ran to my front door to see what happened. There was a boy in front of my house and a car in front of him. There was also another boy in the front who had hit the car. For once I thought that they were robbing. My alarm immediately went off when I went out to the front door. When I came back the guys from Monitronics were right there and asked me if everything was okay. I told them as to what I saw and they asked me if I could give a description of the car. So, I told them that I didn?t have one at that point, but the boy that I saw had worn a baggy kind of shirt and was blonde. Then they asked me if I can anyway get a description of the car and I readily agreed to help them. So, I asked them to call me on my cell phone and I told them that I would drive down to the place where I thought the car would be there. Later on, they called me back on my cell phone and I went down there. They kept in touch with me the whole time I was driving and I did find the boys along with the car. I informed them and they told me that the police were already on their way. I don?t know as to how it turned out once the police got there. They were trying to block in as it was a little shady. I really liked their promptness and how they responded. I also liked the way they stayed on the phone with me while I drove down there. It was an awesome experience and I will always have an alarm on my house. I pay them a certain amount every month to keep the service and I also had a free installation of the system.

The initial review of what I had already was detailed. The tech knew exactly what it was and even informed me that we had alarm screens on our windows (which we didn't know). I asked for the additonal protection of the cell once he told me about DSL risks and the price was very reasonable. I've had it for several years now and we're so glad we got it. Our neighbors were broken into while they were out of town last Thanksgiving. They lost a lot (including their cars). They've since installed a system and use Monitronics as well. You have to have an authorized dealer do the technical work, and Monitronics is the monitoring company, but they handle all the details.
Description of Work: I bought a house that had an existing alarm system. Monitronics reprogrammed it. It was an old system, but they were still able to work with it and even add a couple of pieces/replace a couple of inoperable pieces. I have DSL, and they were able to use a cell unit as a back-up service for monitoring. The monitoring has been outstanding. They are VERY fast.

Terrible. To date I have been paying for a service I do not have and the buyer of my home has enrolled to use their service.
Description of Work: Monitronic installed an alarm system in my home three to four years ago. I just recently sold the home that the Monitronics alarm was installed in. I made settlement on my old home October 31, 2008. I informed Monitronics in September when I moved to a temporary living arrangement.(my new home was not complete) that I was selling my home and would pass their information to my buyer to set up an account with them. My monthly payments were deducted from my checking account. The monthly deduction ended September. In December when I moved to my new home I contacted Monitronics to inquire about having a alarm system set up in my new home. A date was scheduled but the service was never installed because of communication problems with the installer. Late December, I contacted Monitronics a stated I would not be installing an alarm system in my new home for financial reasons. In January of 2009 Monitronics started to deduct the monthly payment from my checking account. I called Monitronics and I was told the canceling of their service was temporary and I had to write a letter. I did not understand why I had to write a letter for something that already was stopped and for a service I do not have. In Febuary another deduction was taken. I called and again was met with poor customer service and rudeness and was told to write a letter. I wrote a letter asking for both deductions back and for the deduction to be stopped. In March they took another deduction. I called Monitronics and again was met with rudeness and was told they did not receive my letter. I asked them for a fax or e-mail and I would send a copy and their representative would not supply me either. I was told, that if I sent a letter it would have come after the last inquirery by me on February 10 and they would not have received it until February 18 and it would have taken them a month to process which would make the termination of deduction effective March 18 and consequently I would not receive a reimbursement for the monthly fees that were taken for a service I do not have.

Texas company, when you have problems there are not responsive.
Description of Work: Installed alarm, asked to have sump pump warning added to their equipment. Installer said he would install. 11 months later power outage, called for service. I was told they would respond within 3 business days. 12 days later no response. Company has not responded in a timely manner.

They brought the smaller pad, but you cannot hear it when it goes off. They said they gave me the service completely free of charge, but I thought I would get one that I could hear. I have called them multiple times, I have all of their names down. They told me if I buy a different battery it would make it louder, but it doesn't. Now it isn't even working, so I called them last night and they told me what to do over the phone. This has happened two or three times already and I am so unhappy with my service. You cannot hear the alarm when it goes off. One time it went off while I was sleeping and they called me to tell me and I had to get up to see it. There was absolutely no one in my house. I begged them to let me out of my contract, but they won't. If I really need them, I cannot get service right away. What good is it to have the service if I can't get them? I have called them 18-20 times speaking to different people. I am just not getting any satisfaction from this.
Description of Work: I had an old alarm and I asked for a smaller keypad.

I was very disappointed because they wanted to charge us for the repair on a service for which we have a warranty or guarantee. I think that they shouldn't charge us if we have this service contract with them. In have no idea how much we pay them. I want to cancel the contract with them, but they make it difficult for me to do.

I've been with Monitronics for over two years. We had one lightning hit and they repaired the damage to the system. The occasional tripping of the alarm by our own foolishness always results in a phone call to the number I asked them to call, usually within 30-60 sec. I feel comfortable should something bad happen they will be on top of it. I don't have to ave an alarm, but I feel they provide value and peace of mind, so I just negotiated a two year renewal.
Description of Work: Setup existing alarm on their system. I had a representative but he quit, now I deal with them directly. They provide 24 x 7 monitoring for the home.

My neighbor referred them to me. They use Honeywell products. When I have called with a question, their customer service department is always very courteous and informative. The thing that I liked the most is that the equipment and installation were free. I only pay the monthly charge.

We really have been pleased with Montronix. They do what they are supposed to do and they have never presented so much as a problem for us. We feel good about using them and are not looking to switch services in the near future or anything like that.

They really did a good job overall. I just changed to another provider because I found a better deal. I do feel like they could have done a better job, after finding out by my new provider checked my smoke alarm system and it was not working properly. I believe they should check these things periodically.

Monitronics International Incorporated responded pretty quickly to our false alarm. I think their technical support needs work because one time when it wasn't working they couldn't figure out what was wrong. I ultimately discovered that it was just a low battery. For the most part we are satisfied with them. I pay them annually.

This is a great deal. It covers my entire 2000 square foot home and included is something they like to call a health security. This is actually a security system that is located next to our bed and will immediately contact the authorities in a health type situation. The customer service department is excellent and the service has never failed us.
Description of Work: I had a monitoring service with my pre installed alarm system until this company called me, upgraded my system, and at the same time gave me almost half price off the monthly monitoring fee. I have a yearly contract at 30 dollar per month.

We have found this company to be punctual. They provide their services at an affordable cost to home owners. They seem to act very professionally. I am pleased to report we have never had a problematic incident with this company.
Description of Work: Monotronic installed the alarm system in our 1900 square foot home. We paid nothing for the installation but then got locked into a three year service agreement with them. We are then billed each month for the monitoring services they provide to us. Their work included taking out an old alarm system and putting in a new basic system in its place.

Currently, my alarm system is not even working. This company can not find the problem. They keep subbing out the work to people who can not fix the problem. This problem caused a false alarm to go off in my home. I called the company and told them I was home and everything was okay. I then left my house. They contacted the police anyway. They also called my son who is an air Marshall and told him they needed him to give him our password, but they would give him no information beyond that. A security guard came to our home. Our door was unlocked but he would not enter the home. I wrote the company a big complaint letter. They did not respond. I am not overly impressed with their services. In addition to my monthly charge, they tried to bill me $150 for the false alarm disaster of a situation that had occurred. They were also supposed to drop my monthly bills from $38 to $25 and they have yet to do that for me.
Description of Work: The alarm system in my 3000 square foot home is monitored on a monthly basis by Monitronix.

They gave two options, both of which included extending my contract, and requiring a $30 installation charge. I did not want to have to pay for them to come out and fix equipment that had never worked and also have to extend my contract for any length of time with a company that I felt was untrustworthy. I paid them in order to have a working system for the length of their contract. I should not have to pay extra to have them fix something that should be working in the first place. Not to mention, I should not be forced to extend my contract, simply to have them come out and fix it. When I first signed the contract, I was led to believe that if things didn't work, it would be very easy to cancel. Now, unless I pay them to extend my contract, the only option I am left with is to pay them $40 a month for a non-working system. I would strongly recommend people to avoid using this company.
Description of Work: I have a contract with Monitronics to monitor my home for 3 years. They monitor for fire and break in, notifying your local police and fire departments. I had the alarm system installed around 4 months ago. The system stopped working after the first month. I called on two separate occasions to have them come out to fix it. They promised a return call each time to set up an appointment, and they never called. I then received a letter saying that my system was not functional because of an FCC change in the analog system. Monitronics said they would update my system to a digital system.
