Cancelled my service in October, they asked me to send them a written notice, but they would honor my cancel date. They continued to bill me through December despite getting my notice... one customer service (SALES) person said if I would sign a new agreement in my new home, they could adjust the over-charge. They gave me an adjusted final amount owed in November of $38.85 which I paid. Then on 12/19 they sent me another bill for $48 and tried to sell me again. Very dishonest!
Description of Work: I had them handling my alarm monitoring for six years, they thanked me by charging me 2 months extra when I cancelled (no contract) ... over charging for service, dishonest and inadequate customer service, high-pressure sales. This was a horrible comapny to do business with ongoing, and especially at the end. Run away!

My elderly mother had a contract w/ provider. It was more than a burglar alarm, it had 'life alert' in case of medical emergency (she wore an alert button) + fire alarm. When my mom died (October 2011), I called service provider to make them aware that my mother passed. I said I will keep the service ON until I sell the house. I stayed current on the account and paid invoices in full. On the day the house was sold (8-30-12), I notified Monotronics that house has a new owner. At that time, I requested refund for pre-paid services (credit due me) and was assured I will receive reimbursement as long as I supply death certificate (mother died 8 months prior, this was 1st time anyone requested proof. I complied). 2.5 months later, I called to inquire about the status of my refund check. I was eventually told I would have to produce a death certificate - AGAIN. I complied. Subsequently I received a bill addressed to my mother for service. I responded, explained the whole situation again and was told my refund will be processed in 7 to 10 business days. Dec 13 the company called my cell phone "because my cell number is on the list of people to call in case of emergency with this client...we are calling to inform you that your mother is past due on account." I called back and was placed on hold. Eventually I spoke with a manager who said they would issue the refund and stop sending bills to my deceased mother. I notified Angie's List. UPDATE TO ANGIE'S LIST: my Angie's List review caught the attention of someone in management and on December 18, in the course of 20 min call, I was assured the situation will be resolved. Days later I got another invoice -- dated Dec 19 and addressed to mother-- 'your payment has not been received; therefore you are at risk of losing the security and peace of mind that a monitored security system provides' (No joke). UPDATE as of Jan 2, 2013- I have received refund and apology. ISSUE IS RESOLVED to my satisfaction.

Great on the redo after trouble with the first encounter.
Description of Work: I had a problem with this company on my first visit. When I finally got someone to respond everything got better. The owner in this area came out an replaced the system they had previously installed. They added additional coverage at no charge.I am hoping for the best, and am grateful for their prompt redo.

The guy who installed the alarm set everything up for me. All I had to do was set up my phone and the website login and that was it. When I call they are very friendly and helpfull I have 0 complaints.
Description of Work: They provide a great monitoring service for alarms. I have had them for a couple months now and no problems at all.

Overall I think Monitronics dropped the ball here in Austin. Im sure if they had a decent service provider in Austin Texas I would not have had this problem. If they had decent service in Austin Texas I would not have been put on a list to wait 29 days for a resumption of alarm service. If they had decent service perhaps they should have warned their clients that there may be service interruptions in Texas because of Hurrician Sandy on the East Coast. Dont Use Monitronics or their contractors at least in Austin Texas!
Description of Work: This company monitored my home alarm system for two years. One of their contractors installed the equipment two years ago. In the two years this company and I have done business I have needed service 4 times. Each time was for the same problem. Each time one of Monitronics service contractors came out to the house, stated they fixed the problem, charged me fee's no less, and left. The problem has always reoccured and has caused gaps in security service that has placed my property and family in danger. The most recent problem, and the one that caused me to write about this and terminate my service with Monitronics is the same old problem I brought up at the beginning of this review. Today I was informed by their service provider for Austin Texas that it would take 29 days to get a technician to my home to diagnose the problem! 29 days with no security service! I called Monitronics back to complain about the 29 day lag time and a very nice lady in customer service put me in touch with another service company that services their customers equipment in San Antonio! I guess the Austin service company was out to lunch! The tech in San Antonio attempted to explain that my particular problem was because of the Hurricane Sandy mess on the East Coast and the problems with "computer servers" in that area causing problems for customers down here...Well if that is the case, why not tell your customer base before they themselves discover it? Sorry I was not buying his explanation because, as I explained to him, I have had the equipment for two years and was familiar with the problems that it was displaying.

We seemed to always have issues with false alarms, which they blamed on our phones or some other issue. As well, we these false alarms would happen we would never receive a call to check that it was a true false alarm. When I began to do research, I found many companies that were offering wireless monitoring, and at a better price than my conventional system, as well as local monitoring. When I went back to Monitronics they could not even come close to the new monthly price I had from a new Wireless, locally monitored company, so we switched. The other major issue I had with Monitoronics, was once i had written my termination letter I continued to get harassing phone calls about my so called account and the need to contact them immediately. No matter how many people I spoke to, letting them know I had cancelled my account and service with them, they continued to call back. It wasn't until the 7th call when I spoke of contacting someone about harassment did they finally stop. This company sucks in the customer service department and think that because you have service with them they can start at a low intro price and just keep increasing every year hoping you don't notice.
Description of Work: Since our house was built we had used Monitronics, but with their price increases every year was getting to much. As well, we found that all their monitoring had moved and was no longer local.

They came when promised, the installation was on time, and use was easy to understand. Have had service twice since installed and both times everything went as smoothly as expected.
Description of Work: We hired them to install a security system in our home, including motion detectors. There was no charge for installation at the time, and the monthly fee was reduced when I told them I may need to cancel due to increased expenses after 3 yrs. They have been responsive to my needs and seem to be reliable after 7 yrs of their service. I checked with other providers that were less than what I am paying but didn't have the services I needed that would keep the alarms from constantly going off with 2 dogs in the house.

Tech was nice and the sales person was too. He did not tell me the truth about how the system was going to work and we ended up not being able to us our motion detectors. He also said that he was giving us new equiment and then scratched it out after I left the room. He is a nice YOUNG man, but just wants to make money.
Description of Work: The sales person lead me to believe that he was from ADT and was coming to update their system. After further contact I realized they were from another company and were going to give me and update system with them for free. I did like this part. I am concerned because I am older and and feel as though I was led astray by a very sales wise young man. He was very assertive and I was not given a moment to do what I needed to do. I liked the tech., but he did not look away when I entered my code number. Overall. I will see how the system works, but feel used by the sales person.

Monitronics simply ignored me and when my friend who recommended them called them they said they will force me to honor the conrtract. I was told I would have to go to Dallas, Texas, at my expense for binding arbitration....not true, I live in Las Vegas and the contract was signed in my home. More lies. In my opinion, Monitronics customer service is a waste of time. I recommend if you are interested in getting an alarm system check with your insurance carrier first....then if the saleman from the alarm company lies to you, kick them out immediately and go somewhere else. I asked for them to remove my system, refund my money, and we both go our separate ways....not a chance they will ruin my credit, sue me for defamation and/or file a mechanics lien against my property, they said so in an email....I don't think I'd recommend this company ...ever.
Description of Work: CRS installed a home security alarm system....supposedly the best available....installation was outstanding, the installer was very nice and explained everything to me, police, fire, medical emergencies and 2 way communications set up. Monitronics local sales associates (CRS Services Limited) misrepresented the discount my insurance carrier would give me on my homeowner's policy....they said 24%, not up to, but 24%, its on my phone recorder, my insurance company gave me a discount of just over 3%....a whopping 21% difference. I gave them 3 chances to resolve this problem, but unless you are willing to accept their settlement you are branded a trouble maker....they told me I was only intent on hurting them with a "jihad" and like President Obama I wanted only to hurt them and thats why I signed up for the alarm service. Honestly, this was sent by email....after getting disgusted trying to deal with CRS....I turned to Monitronics, I forwarded them copies of all the emails and they could see where CRS lied like crazy to put the blame on me.

I am going to keep them. If someone breaks in my house, the alarms go off and have cops at the door. They charge my credit card. Their services have been fine. I recommend them to my friend. Every time I had a problem, I have been able to call them. They had a guy next morning to check them out. I had a battery go bad and I have got a warranty on my services, so they came up with a new battery. They are fine. They show up when they say they would and call us if they are late.

I like that anytime we accidentally set off the alarm, we don’t have to wait long for them to call us to see if everything is okay. We don’t have any other conversation apart from that. I like that they get down to business and don’t waste my time.

We were thinking about getting an alarm, and then we got a telemarketing call. My husband took down the information and we talked about it. We decided to go through them basically because they called. It was not like we were looking for them, or that particular company. The monthly price is cheap. It covers 11 window contacts, two carbon dioxide detectors, and a motion detector. The overall experience has been good. They are responsive, punctual, and professional. We will continue to use this provider.
