They have been great. We have had Monitronics monitoring our home security system for 2 1/2 years. We have not had a problem. They have been responsive any time I have had to call them.

I was with another monitoring company and they sold my contract out to Monitronics. For years I was paying $25/month and got tired of paying it. I researched other companies and found them to be less expensive. I contacted Monitronics and they gave me a $15/month monitoring. I pay bi-annually with this rate. I am quite happy with them but haven't had my alarm go off. I do have it checked periodically. I use my alarm daily.

I shopped around a lot and researched different alarm companies and Direct Protect had great reviews and good pricing, so I signed up with Direct Protect. They gave me a good price for the installation and the monthly fee.... Mike did the install and he was right on time and very professional. I am happy with the install and the service. The wireless system is the way to go so the phone lines can not get cut. I can also program the alarm system from my phone. The key pad is super easy to use. I like it better then the keypad systems with only numbers on it. Direct Protect did the installation and Monitronics does the alarm monitoring. Monitronics has been in business for years. Getting an alarm system is the best thing I have ever done.... I feel safer when I am home and I have more piece of mind when I am away. I would recommend both companies to anyone who is looking to put in an alarm system.

WORKING FINE. ALREADY HAD EVENT WITH SMOKE ALARM. WAS NOTIFIED WITHIN 30 SECONDS BY PHONE FOR VERIFICATION IF FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS NEEDED. LUCKILY, NOT.

Monitronics International Inc.We are currently using them. It cost $39.99 a month. They just bought the other company we had before. As far as their communication it is good, no problems. They were nice, it's all good.

I've been with Monitronics for over 6 years. I never had any issues other than price which runs about $10 a month more than the others. Recently my bank was bought out and my account numbers changed so Monitronics was dropped from the autopay for some reason. They came after me like some kind of collection agency and accused me of lying about the account. That really p***** me off so I told them to send me a bill for what I owed rather than restart them on autopay again. I payed them as soon as I recieved the bill and shortly after they sent another bill with $45 in check charges even though they had cashed my check. At that point I called them and told them to terminate my contract. The phone calls really started then. They were rude, insulting and tried to intimidate me into staying with them. They are unethical, dishonest and I would never recomend them to anyone. I am now with Moon security and I am saving money and getting responsible and honest service from a local company.
Description of Work: I hired Monitronics for home security and monitoring for fire. They had a company install a controll panel and door, window switches and a smoke detector.

Hostile, rude, angry, un-informed employees. Not the kind of people I want monitoring my home!!
Description of Work: We just bought a house that had a Monotronics system already installed, so I called to activate new service. The customer service reps were rude and totally unhelpful. I could overhear very crude jokes and general rowdiness in the background while on the phone. After I received an e-mailed contract, I called back with a question about the contract terms and when the rep could not answer, I asked to speak with a supervisor. The rep was not happy about this! He badgered me about going "over his head" and insisted there was "no one who could answer better" than himself. I was disconnected. After two more attempts I finally reached a supervosor, who was not more helpful and could not answer simple questions about the contract terms. I have decided to look for a different alarm company.

I didn't renew the contract when it was up. Their salesman was a college kid and we thought it was a one year contract and it was a five year contract that we couldn't break. We paid $40 a month. The overall experience wasn't very good. We didn't like the salesman with the contract. The installation was in the wrong place and they wouldn't correct it without a fee. We had a couple of false alarms and they didn't have a maintenance program. We had to do all the testing and maintenance ourselves. Now that I don't have the contract with them, I have moved the system and I have it set up where I do my own monitoring. We wouldn't use them again. Their price was compatible with others.

They were totally worthless. This company including the people that work from them, the installers and the people on the phone, were just horrible. They were repeatedly coming here and not fixing the problem. They would tell me a story about how they were going to remedy it, but it was not possible and what they were talking about did not exist when I looked into it. I can't get a hold of anybody to get my money back, plus I paid a monthly fee for an alarm system that didn't work. I'm just glad they're gone, so forget about the money. They kept sending somebody out here that they were saying was hooking up a certain type of service that was not even available with the phone company because they hooked it up to a tower. First they told me they had separate towers when they came to do an install, but the cell phones go in and out here. I can't have the alarm dependent on that, so they said they had a different system and that's what they used. They then told me they were going to get a major cell company, but the technology wasn't out for what they were telling me that they were going to do. The beauty of the whole thing is that this could've all been resolved if their installer just hooked it into the hard phone line. The guy was completely incompetent and he was here numerous times. I found this out through the second guy that they sent out who quit and now I'm using him as my alarm guy. The price seemed to be reasonable, but it's just a big gimmick. This is sold completely across the country and then they farm it out to private subcontractors. The guy that they sent here didn't know anything. He put an alarm system on a sliding door so that when you opened it the first time it popped off which is totally incompetence. This all could've been resolved very easily by hooking it to the hard line phone system, but by that time I was so sick of them that I just did't want anything to do with them. I was constantly getting automated phone calls that there was something wrong with my alarm system to every member of my family. I had to sit here for a day waiting for them to show up. They called me a half an hour after they were supposed to show to tell me they're not coming. They even called me one time to tell me they were on their way and didn't come.
Description of Work: I last used Monitronics three months ago when I told them to get their stuff out of my house after being hassled with an alarm system that didn't work for six months.

I spend about $45 a month. The equipment and installation was free. I haven’t had to deal with them a lot. They are really proactive. They call for the slightest little things, like if we don’t get in the house by a certain period of time or if the power goes out. I assume they ping the device every once in a while. One time, they couldn’t get a hold of me, so they were able to get a hold of other members of my family to make sure everything was okay. They were fine; they were what I expected them to be. Their price was very reasonable; they were more affordable than most of the other companies that were offering a similar type of service. The installer was on time. With regard to professionalism, they were great.

The system that we have is several years old but works like a charm. The service calls are always super helpful and we have been overall satisfied with the service up to now. We originally encountered this company at a Home Show.
Description of Work: My wife and I have had this service for several years and have had installation of alarm system with a monthly prescription service, along with numerous service help sessions over this time period. Items such as battery changeout, questions about operation. We recently had our front door replaced and received excellent help on removing and replacing the alarm contacts for the new door.

I had an alarm system with ADT; I didn’t think they were doing all they could for me. So, the guy from Monitronics came out and explained their service. I can now alarm and un-alarm my home from my phone and see different things over the internet. I can also raise and lower the temperature over the internet. I was very impressed. The price is good. They installed the system the same day I contacted them.

.From what I discovered in my research, this has happened before with salespeople from Monitronics. I was not happy with these types of sales tactics, especially where my parents are concerned. (He did the installation paperwork for our initial service, he knew that I was the account holder, and yet he called my parents. At no time did he tell my mother that he was with Monitronics, and it wasn't until I asked him that he admitted it. Senior citizens are frequently the target of this type of sales campaign.) I gave the company a "D" grade, for a few reasons. First, the rep I spoke with at ADT (who was very helpful) told me that the gentleman had left them with a 6 months non-compete clause. To be fair, he may have been working his old client list after his 6 months had expired. Second, the company may be a good one. I was just unimpressed by the sales pitch, to say the least. And third, thanks to this gentleman's call, I discovered that ADT offers the same discounts and services that he was offering through Monitronics. I've been able to setup for the new systems, with the medical alert options, and reduce my bill at the same time! I'm grateful for that!
Description of Work: Around the first week of January 2013, my elderly mother called me to tell me that a gentleman from our security company had called. (I pay for the ADT system at their house.) She was quite concerned. He said he was the agent who had helped with the account set-up. He told her that there were several upgrades available, and our rates could be reduced. She had told him to contact me, as the account was in my name, and, indeed, I found a couple of messages left on my voice mail from this agent. I remembered him from the system installation, so I called him back and left a message for him. (It's not usually been my experience that a company calls you about discounted service, but it has happened, so I was looking forward to finding out more.) A few days later I received a call from this agent, rather remonstrative that I hadn't called him back. I thought perhaps we just missed each other playing phone-tag, so I let it go, and asked him to tell me more about the services. He began a rapid-fire aggressive delivery of the upgrades we could take advantage of, with a new wireless system, and with medical alert features that would really help my parents. I found it all to be an interesting deal, yet the more he talked, the more I found it didn't sound right. He kept mentioning a Honeywell system, and how it was in the top 3 systems in the US. While he was talking to me, I was online researching the info he was giving me. I thought our company was number 1 in the nation for security services, so I was a little confused. A red flag went up in my mind. When I pressed him for more information, he mentioned Monitronics. I finally figured out he was no longer with ADT, but was a salesperson for Monitronics International. I managed to extricate myself from the phone call, did more research online, and contacted ADT. I then called my mother and told her that I was not changing the service, and set her mind at ease.

The monthly fee is $29 and the equipment was $431. They were very flexible and they were willing to accept previous equipment that I had set up in the house. The only downside was the price considering all the equipment I already had. The price was pretty high up front but they had a shorter contract of only 3 years. Their monthly price was slightly lower than other companies. The guys were nice and they did a really good job setting it up. I just wish the upfront cost had been a little lower.

Had to figure out what type of alarm system to install after discovering a break in while out of town. So many choices (hard wire vs. wireless, phone line vs. cell vs. satellite) and everything is negotiable, so it gives you a headache. (Had horrible experience with ADT tech/supervisor--too much pressure.) Monitronics sales rep was helpful and open to haggling, but sometimes said one thing on the phone (I took notes) but a different amount another time--though sometimes it worked to my advantage. Our home was prewired (all doors/windows), but poorly, so we had to install new central box, but all contacts worked. We also added motion detectors, 2 keypads and key fobs. The tech who came to do install was efficient, with 17 years of experience, and I felt comfortable having him in the house. He patiently explain the equipment and made sure I understood the system--though still getting used to having an alarm. He also swept up his mess. The tech was able to locate a door connection that the sales rep missed (it was different from all the other doors), so saved me money. I was very stressed during all this, as the burglar has not been caught, so I appreciated a less-pressured sales approach, but I suggested you know what you want before talking with sales people, and know you can negotiate everything.

I cancelled my service with Monitronics. 30 day notice in writing is required, which I did. Got a statement from Monitronics for a high amount that I did not owe. Called them and finally got it fixed to where it should be.

Both the sales person and the installation technician were knowledgeable, timely, efficient and professional in fulfilling this service. I would recommend Monitronics to others.
Description of Work: Monitronics (as provided via Security Investments) updated and enhanced my home security system. ADT was monitoring a perimeter doors/windows/carbon monoxide system. I received smoke/fire and glass break detectors as well as a state-of the art control panel with two remote controls at no cost, and with only a slight increase ($5 to $6 above what I was currently paying for much more limited service from ADT) in the cost of the monthly monitoring fee. Installation went flawlessly and was completed within 90 minutes, including a short instruction session provided by the installation technician.
