Metro Guard Termite & Pest Control

Very good service. Agent returned three times to check foundation moisture condiions before he was able to complete process. I appreciated the effort to optimize the effectiveness of the procedure.

We heard noises in the ceiling of our master bedroom. Called Metro Guard to inspect attic for rats. Thought it was a rat(s) because our neighbor had one. This is a rental home that sat dormant for one year that was recently renovated, so we understood that there may be pest problems when we moved in Dec 2010. The technician inspected the attic and reported there were rat droppings, so he decided to leave rat bait packets in the attic and a bait box ($25) by a large tree. He "dusted" the attic for bugs ($45). We then purchased their yearly program for bugs for $399.50 that includes spraying quarterly and the program can come with this to another property if we move. After a week, we continued to hear noises; noises that were frequent and louder. I freaked out over the thought of a rat chewing its way through our ceiling over our bed! I called the company the next morning, about 9AM, telling them that they must come out immediately. The rep said they can't guarantee they could be out that day, but would definitely be there tomorrow. To my relief they were able to get a technician out at Noon. This second tech was a more experienced person that knew rodents and was training a new technician, so I had two guys out here. They inspected the attic and learned that it was not rats, but squirrels. He said it appeared they were having a "party" up there and found nests. I asked what happened to the diagnosis of it being rats. He said it could have been rats, but they don't coexist so if it was, the squirrels would chase them out. However, that squirrels are more territorial and destructive than rats. This required their "wildlife program for 7-days" at $300. They would have to catch the squirrels and relocate them because they would be back. I told the technician to do whatever they needed to do. So he installed three cages with peanuts and orange slices. The program requires them to inspect the attic/traps daily. I immediately called the company to speak to a manager about the cost. Spoke to the manager (forgot name, may have been John) about the fact that it was diagnosed as a rat problem and I had already paid $100 toward that... now it’s squirrels and they want to charge me an additional $300. The manager researched the problem and apologized and said he would apply what I already paid for what was thought to be a rat problem to the squirrel problem, leaving a difference of $200. On top of that he said we will leave the traps longer than 7 days. They were true to their word; they came out every day for two weeks. I had a handy man patch holes in the roof and made repairs where needed as they recommended. They left the traps in for an additional week. In conclusion, they did not catch the squirrels. Two traps in the process were tripped, but no catch. So they removed the cages. I recently called them back for a fly problem in a closet wall; they were very helpful and responsive even though they said they don't cover flying insects. He thought maybe something died in there, but we were perplexed because there was no smell/stench. The tech sprayed where there were coming from just in case, but there's no guarantee that the solution would work on flies. Overall, I was pleased with their service and responsiveness and willingness to work with me on the cost (but I did find them to be pricy). But what can you do in an emergency. I will have them out in May for them to do their quarterly spraying. The whole rodent experience based on my receipts was from 2/19/11 thru 3/25/11. This included 10 consecutive visits to check the traps with the last visit on 3/10/11; then left the traps for additional days just in case with pick up on 3/25/11. The only complaint I have is they left peanuts and moldy orange slices in the attic. I recommend that they clean up the food when they remove the traps so as not to incise anything from going back up there.

Those folks are excellent. They have the best prices in the area. They are very prompt and do a thorough job. I can't say enough about them and I've used them twice. They were very good. They are very personable and the same person came out each time. He was very courteous. He made some recommendations for things that I could do so I wouldn't be charged for them. They will return if I find any insects or anything. I was very pleased with them.

I will not use them again and the last time they called me I told them not to come out again. Partially it is my fault, but they came out on continuous bases and treated for bugs just by spraying. The last time they came out, I still had bugs and apparently I waited past the point when I should have called them back to come out. I thought that since I had been a loyal customer all those years that they would have just come out or charged me half price to treat for the bugs and they would not do that, so I would not use them again. I had no people that they came to do the job.

They are great! I had carpenter ants and they gave me a discount on their yearly deal.

They would call every 6 months to remind me that I was due for another treatment, and were very prompt and efficient with their work. Never had any bug issues after using them annually!

Cliff arrived exactly at the appointed hour. He was professional, polite and neatly dressed in uniform. I showed him some dead bees. He informed me that bees are not killed because they are important to the ecosystem. He advised me that a hive would need to be relocated. Fortunately, mother nature had already intervened and the swarm was not out there at 11AM. Cliff inspected the entire property outside, crawled through our dangerous attic, and inspected the bathroom where the bees had been buzzing and flying in large numbers in our house. He did not find any evidence of a hive anywhere. He spent about 45 minutes looking around and listening to the walls. I was thrilled that he did not find anything. Cliff also took apart the bathroom light fixture (which contained lots of dead bees and cleaned it out for me). He recommended that we get the flashing at the roof line fixed. I then went into the house to make sure the bees had not returned to the bathroom. It was all clear. I came out with my credit card and was stunned when he handed me the bill marked "no charge". He said he did not perform any service and Metro Guard does not charge for bids. Wow. That's a company I am happy to deal with. I have used them in the past and they deserve their excellent rating on this list.

I noticed a silverfish in our guest bathroom and mentioned it to my wife and she said she had seen one in the closet a couple of weeks earlier. We decided right then to get something done but wasn?t sure who to call. My wife said she had been hearing about Angie?s list on the radio so I looked it up on my computer and decided to join. I did a search and reviewed the great ratings for Metro Guard. The next day I gave them a call and told them about my problem and they quickly assured me that they could take care of our problem. This company is very professional to say the least, the scheduling was fast, and the tech arrived promptly at the designated time. Alex (our tech) was extremely courteous and knowledgeable and went about his business quickly. During his inspection he reported to us that he had located signs of rodents in our attic and recommended, as well as quoted, a treatment that was very reasonable. We agreed that we wanted the additional work done and he returned to work and completed everything in a very timely manner. Metro Guard is now part of our home-vendors list and will be the first ones we call should the need arise. If you need a great company to do this type of service, don?t hesitate to call them up. They are very effective because we used to have bugs and cockroaches coming out every time. They are very professional and they use very safe chemicals which doesn't harm kids or animals. I will use them in future.

That job went well overall. I was not unhappy with anything.

I asked them if this meant they would just throw a bunch of green poison pellets up into the attic he said yes that it what the do. This is the nightmare approach for the home owner... dead rats in the walls and attic... decay and smell for months. Has'nt anyone come up with a better method?

We had a huge fire ant problem in our bathrooms. I called Metro Guard, and they were able to come out the same evening. The price was fair compared to other companies I had contacted, and the technician who came was courteous and very patient. I was on and off the phone with my husband while we decided what to do, and he just waited patiently. He also performed his job quickly and efficiently. We are so glad those little intruders (the ants) are gone!

We contacted Metro Guard after finding them on Angie's List, with a high rating. We were remodeling a house and had a major flee outbreak. Metro Guard had a fair price, and could come out quickly. We decided on the yearly contract. The first treatment seemed to go well, but did not get rid of the flees. We had them out for a retreat, which they did no questions asked. The flees seemed to go away, but were back again soon after, resulting in another retreat. We had several retreats. Each time a different person came out. I lost track of how many times somebody was out. The last guy that was out did a great job, and informed us of steps we should take to make for a successful treatment; he was the first and only tech that did this. After speaking with him, we realized that part of the problem was most likely due to the construction, and one room being off limits. Had one of the other techs given us this information and steps, we might have been able to avoid retreats. Although they did retreat as part of the price, it was a huge hassle each time that could have been avoided if the techs were knowledgeable. Also, they never got our billing correct. We gave them a credit card number on the first visit. The card was billed once, then we started getting paper bills. I called, but they could not explain why we got the bill. After the second bill I called again, and was informed that the tech wrote the card number down wrong. Not sure how that could happen when we were billed once, but ok. Gave them the card number again, but still got paper bills. We verified the card was not rejected. They told us the tech wrote the number down wrong AGAIN. That was the last straw for us. Between the retreats, never seeing the same tech twice, and the billing errors, we're done with these guys. We replaced Metro Guard with Metro Pest, and are very happy. They told us ahead of time everything we needed to do to prepare, and were very professional. We will not use Metro Guard again. I'm giving a D instead of an F because they did come out and attempt retreats. Update re: providers response: The response from the provider is absolutely untrue. They never explained to us the process, in fact the techs were fairly impersonal, we even asked what we could do differently. There was only one tech that we felt did an adequate job of both treating the area, and explaining to us what we needed to do, that was the last tech that was out (4th one I believe). We were in the process of remodeling, which they were aware of when we set up the initial visit and did not indicate this would be an issue. They were never able to get the billing correct. We absolutely did NOT change or stop the card from working. In fact, we even called the bank to see if they tried billing us, they did not. After a couple of calls to Metro, we were finally told they wrote the card number down wrong. After giving them the number twice and them STILL not getting it (both occasions a tech had the card in hand, so it was not our fault), we tried to speak to the manager. I was told the manager would contact me, but he never did. The response they submitted on Angie's List sounds great, but is simply untrue and flat out makes me angry.

Quality service at a fair price. Will use them again.

I have used them before for regular pest control spraying and have always been pleased with the service, punctuality, and price. This time the technicial found some rodent droppings so he explained to me exactly what the advantage was to use their product versus an off-the-shelf product so I allowed the technician to bait the rodents as well. I like their warranty and their responsiveness. They even give a reminder call when the 3-month period has ended so they can come out and re-spray so there's no break in service. I've been using them for over a year now.

rep determined that it was not termites, but wood rot. told me what to look for in the future. i appreciated his honesty. left card so i can call him when i need other services.

He was prompt, courteous, professional. He asked if we would be interested in a year's service plan but did not push the plan. We definitely will use him again.

They told us that they could do it or that we could go to the store and grab these couple of items and fix it ourself if we wanted.

I asked for a solution to "roof rats" that would not risk environmental damage or hurt other animals. I also was not entirely comfortable with killing any animal but recognized we needed to get rid of the rats. The reprsentative spent one hr with me talking about what could be done and quite honestly put up with me "fretting" over what to do. He respected my position. We worked out a system to use safe bait stations in yard and live capture cages in garage. They will return frequently to pick up cages and release rats elsewhere. This is the reason for the increased expense. I still have to deal with the fact bait has been used but maybe many can be captured. I appreciate him working with me on this and not being annoyed. Very professional and responsive to customer desires

Had to call the tech back inn 30 days for continued ant problems. Was told he would retreat with the "big guns" Still having problems for ants as well as the other pest. WILL not use their services again.

Talked with Kenneth and he was able to come out that same morning. He gave me an estimate for the ant removal, as well as a yearly service for pest control. We had been using a company that had sold out, so I was interested in the yearly plan, as well as the immediate need for the ants. Kenneth was very professional, sprayed for the carpenter ants, treated the attic,and sprayed the outside of the house front, and back. The yearly charge was about 450.00, which I paid half, and the other half due later. They guranteed the work, and said if any more ants showed up, please call. I was very happy with the work performed, and would reccommend their service.

I called early this morning because I've been harassed for the last several months by what I now know are drain flies. I called Metro Guard because the research I had done online made me feel like a pest control company was the only was to eradicate the little buggers. The gentleman who took my call this morning (wish I had gotten his name) politely told me exactly how to take care of the problem myself--saving me the money of paying them to come out and do it for me. It was refreshing to deal with a company (and this individual) who truly have the customer's best interest in mind. If I find myself in need of pest control again, I will be using Metro Guard and will refer them to all of my friends and family. Thank you!

We found EXTENSIVE damage in the large bathroom a few years earlier, called the existing contractor - he treated where we had torn out the walls! In May 2009, we were having some "remodeling" in the entry way and living/dining room, when MAJOR damage was found. We again called the existing contractor who treated the area. I began to search for another termite control company, and decided to call Metro Guard for a free estimate. As stated above, I "hired" Metro Guard. Kenneth was VERY professional, very thorough - worked for 4 hours! covering the house inside and out. I noticed Kenneth treating areas in the house that I don't remember the other company doing. I recommended Metro Guard to a friend, who also had Metro Guard treat serious termite damage in their home, and they report they were very satisfied. He treated the inside of the house, it had been raining and they waited a few days to finish outside (another company MIGHT have put out the "poison" since they were there and not explain why they needed to wait - would have been a waste of the homeowner's money.)

Overall it was a good experience. I had estimates from 6 companies and this company has the best price and offerred most of the criteria I looked for (spot treatment of affected wall, BBB accreditation...). The representatives who answered the phone were polite and professional. And most importantly I feel I can trust the technician who did the work. He is the same one who did the initial inspection. He answerred my questions satisfactorily. I observed him throughout most of the time he was here and he did his job well.

Newly purchased older home, called for concerns with ants and c*** roaches. Addressed all concerns and checked for other possible problems. Was very thorough and professional.
