Levy & Son

I am a long-time customer of Levy and Son. They have done both plumbing and HVAC work for me at my home over the past 12 years. A friend referred me to them because she said they were honest about what did and did not need to be done and because their work is always top notch. Because of all my great experiences with Levy and Son, I agree with her completely. Levy and Son is a must have if you need any plumbing or HVAC work done. Call them. I got a postcard in the mail from them. He was good but I just didn't feel comfortable with him. I felt like he was very cold. He was not personable at all. I thought their prices were very expensive. I probably won't use them again. They are a very reputable firm, but I might check somebody else. I was a little ill at ease. I've had guys that had been nicer. I paid $217 because I had a coupon. I got the 2 air conditioners serviced for $80 a piece and then they had to add the freon and something else. It was ironic because I had the plumber from them come the same day because I had a problem with my toilet. That guy was fantastic. He was really friendly and really fast, and repaired it. It was funny. The plumber was wonderful but the A/C guy was not so wonderful. It was a fair price. I start thinking in terms of how long this person is here climbing up in the attic. Even though I can find it cheaper, that is probably a comparable price especially if they are a union or a licensed plumber. I am paying for quality. The price is a little high but it is probably worth it. They gave me that big broad window but they came on the day they told me they were coming. If I was working, it would be a bigger difference but since I'm just sitting here anyway, it doesn't matter to me as much because I'm not going anywhere anyway. I don't know if I'll use them again because I have used Dallas Plumbing that's on Angie's List in the past and I liked them. I used to use another company that had installed my original system but they went out of business so I'm kind of moving around different companies. Even with Angie's List, I am very skeptical of any of these air conditioning people. They really only want me to get a new system. They want to force me to buy a new thing. I am always weary of these people. Some of them advertise that their guys don't sell, they only check and repair. Especially when I have one this old, what do I know about air conditioning. I will definitely hire them as a plumber. With the air conditioning, I might just keep looking for a better deal. I have no allegiance, but I like the plumber. He was very good.

I have been using Levy and Son for about 5 years now. I have a Guaranteed Maintenance Agreement with them. They come out twice a year to check our heating and AC systems and tune things up. I have also used them when we have had problems with our heating or AC systems. They replaced our larger HVAC unit several years ago, due to the GMA I got a big discount on a great system that I'm very happy with. I've also had other emergency repairs from them, for example when our second HVAC unit suddenly stopped working on a hot summer day.They are extremely responsive during these types of emergencies and will come very quickly, get things working again quickly. The front office is responsive and professional as are the technicians. I don't routinely use them for plumbing but again, when we had a plumbing emergency on a weekend, I called them and they took care of the problem. I am happy with their service and will continue to use them. They are more expensive than the previous HVAC company I used, but in my opinion the timeliness and the quality of the service they provide is well worth it.

The company did a great and thorough job.

It went really well, my wife was home but I was out of town. He helped us understand what was going on and why Roto Rooter didn't really fix anything when they came out.

Arrived promptly, worked steadily. Completed work satisfactorily. Everything works well. Very informative. Identified potential problems not caused by the garbage disposal or toilet.. My dishwasher, which is connected to the garbage disposal, was installed incorrectly (not by Levy) and may cause future problems. Suggested options for correcting the problem. Also noted that occasional blockages of the kitchen sink plumbing are caused because the air conditioning system drains into the same pipes and the liquid that drains sometimes has grit and dirt.

I have used Levy for decades but have mixed feelings about this last visit because of the cost. First, the plumber, Ron, was very professional and did the work perfectly; no complaint there. The lower rating on professionalism came from whoever I was talking to at the office. I was trying to figure out how to save a little money the next time they came, which isn't infrequent since our hard water is tough on plumbing parts. What I wanted was to buy the needed parts before they came to save the double billing of $25/15 minutes (after the first $96) having the plumber drive to buy the parts PLUS their additional $70 for making the trip. I asked the plumber for the parts numbers but ended up not getting those. I then asked for the used parts back -- thinking I could take them to Teeter's, my local plumbing parts company, like he had -- but they never delivered those. Mainly after being a customer for so long I was a bit put out by the lady in the office saying, "We're not going to give YOU that information." Really? Anyway, I never got any information I could use. So, the lesson: Don't allow Levy to install anything without leaving you all the paperwork that comes with the fixture! Their new policy is to replace ALL parts inside fixtures (not just a few), so if a faucet is dripping, get your paperwork out and go to Teeter's (or your local plumbing parts place) BEFORE they come. You can always take the parts back if not needed. My last comment is this: Clearly I am no longer as valued a customer as I was before because I moved my heating/air conditioning business to another company (but have continued to use Levy for plumbing). I would never have done that but the other company offered me an A/C unit for $10,000 less! I'm sorry but it wouldn't have felt right to buy a great A/C unit from the other company but then give the annual maintenance contract to Levy. Anyway, Levy's work this time was very good (albeit expensive) but overall I was left feeling disappointed.

It worked out well, I've used them several times and I haven't had any problem since then. I would recommend them to anyone.

It went well. No muss-no fuss. They came within 24 hours, plumber was neat and used shoe covers, was polite. Drains are working again.

I just didn't think they had a lot of integrity. They would artificially find things and find something to charge for every visit, every single time. It was too frequent to be a co-incidence.

I have a maintenance policy with Levy which covers AC/Heat checkup for summer and for fall. If anything needs to be repaired, the policy provides for 10 percent discount on further work. I have used Levy for many years and through them have continued to have satisfactory AC/heat system without having to replace the old systemit. The repair work that I have needed , Levy did promptly and professionally at a reasonable cost

I had been a long term customer of Levy & Son. Obviously I am very disappointed with the solution they recommended. They installed this system originally and have serviced it since being installed. They inspected and tested the system for several hours before recommending a complete replacement. After getting a second opinion and finding out is was a simple part replacement easily determined by the new tech...hmmm let see 170 vs. 14,000 - we have a winner - think I will go with the 170. Levy did not charge me for the time spent trouble shooting my system. No one ever called me back from Levy.

They're very good. They don't have high turnovers so whenever I call,they're quick to respond. Whenever I'm doing repair, I get a discount because that's in our agreement.

We detected a leak in the crawl space under the den and could hear it coming upwards hitting underneath our wood floor. I called three plumbers prior to Levy and Son and was told by two that they weren't available for a couple of days. The third plumber told me that for $590, they would come out, identify the leak, and test it. I then called Levy and Son. They came out within half an hour, and fixed the leak within a couple of hours. The total charge was $370. They were fast, efficient, and very professional.

It went great. I could hear water running under our den floor that day and knew we had a leak that needed immediate attention. I called three or four other Angies' list A-rated plumbers first, and they all said that they couldn't come out for 2 days. I then used google to find a plumber that would make emergency calls. I saw Levy and son, whom I had used previously for work, and called them. The dispatcher said that they would put us next on the list. The plumber arrived within an hour and immediately went under the house. Another Levy plumber arrived soon after. They found the leaks and had them repaired within a couple of hours. The total bill was $370. They said that the water was spraying up under our den floor (wood) and had saturated a circle about 5 ft in diameter. Luckily the top of the floor wasn't damaged.

Usually, they're on time. The people they send are good. They know what they're doing. If they don't know what they're doing and I call and they send somebody who does. We're on a contract basis with them so it's 10% less than normal. I think their price is just right about normal with everyone else but it's a good company. I've never heard anybody who used them thought that they were too expensive.

They check both the air conditioning and heating so if there is a problem, they will find it before we have to worry about turning the heater on in the fall or the air conditioning in the spring. I like that they check both each time. They are so busy that if we have an emergency, it can take them a while to get out so sometimes we have to go somewhere else. They are good at maintenance. They are very professional. We've used them for 20 years.

I've used this company before and have always found them to be reliable, honest, and professional. They don't make appointments, but they give you a window, and they call to keep you updated on arrival time. Their plumbers are always polite and capable. Highly recommended.

No water would exit the house and some started backing up under the master bathroom floor. I called and left a message but was worried that no one would be available given that it is the Sunday before Christmas. I got a call back 10 minutes later. The plumber arrived within the hour, was professional, and got to work. He cleared out the main drain in front of the house. I was grateful for the speed which he came and the fact that all started flowing again.

Some of the work was done professionally and on time. However, several follow-up calls and additional analysis work were required to ATTEMPT to solve continuing problems with all of the above. In July 2013, I attempted to secure additional help on more problems that I uncovered. I was told by a senior manager at Levy & Son that they were done working on our home and would no longer do any more work for us at our home. x Using Angie's List, I located and arranged for another "A" rated long time company to replace Levy & Son. The new company sent out technicians that reviewed all of the work done by Levy & Son. They found a number of problems and technical errors. I walked through our attic and our backyard with the new company and observed in detail what they had discovered. x I requested the new company to fix, repair and replace the problems and errors they had found. We now have properly balanced and even airflows coming out of all our registers in our home for the first time in two years. Some technical problems with the Lennox PPV system have also been fixed by the new company. x The new company showed me the improperly installed flexible duct work, and the crushed duct work, that Levy & Son had left in my attic that was part of the balance and airflow problems. Also we found where Levy & Son had stepped on and damaged other electrical wiring on the floor and hanging in our attic. I arranged for another Angie rated "A" electrical contractor to come in and repair that damage. x The new A/C company work cost me a total of $1,018. The electrical repair work cost me a total of $623. x I believe that Levy & Son has lost the management skills to run their business for home based services. They do not have the professional abilities to effectively oversee the work they do, or more correctly, the work they do poorly. x WARNING: Do not use Levy & Son, unless you yourself are a skilled contractor and have the tenacity to brow beat them to do what they should have done in the first place. x

They just gave up on me, and I am still having problems with this.

At the price quoted, I assumed the part would run around $100-$150 dollars and the rest would go toward about four hours of labor ($125/hour). When the technician was finished in just a little over one hour and handed me the bill, I realized that I had fallen prey to one of the companies that uses flat-rate pricing. This practice does away with the old "work by the hour" model and replaces it with flat-rate pricing based on whatever is being done. This practice reaps huge profits for companies at the expense of the consumer. I basically ended up paying my heating repair technician somewhere between $300 and $400/hour. I called the company manager and asked him about it. He explained to me that everybody is doing it.
