So far, every company I check through Angie's List "first" before hiring turns out great. Very pleased with visit overall and would happily use Lakewood Electrical again. Rylan is as awesome as they get. Focused on the task at hand, made time to replace an outlet in front of our house and even pointed out a potential safety hazard and offered a solution to fix problem.

Terrific. Rylan had done excellent work for me in the past & was one of several bidding for the panel upgrade and other jobs on a c.1950 home that needed a lot of work to bring it up to code. His price was in line with others, but b/c I knew he was honest, knowledgeable, familiar with older homes, hard-working and easy to work with, he got the job. Panel upgrade was done in Jan/Feb & he was very helpful guiding me through the process with Oncor & TXU; we were "green tagged" first time by City inspector, even though city codes had been revised only 2 weeks earlier. That helped me get the power (and heat!) turned on as quickly as Oncor could accomplish it. The other work was completed over several weeks, as parts became available. Everything was done with great attention to detail, has worked flawlessly, and has provided great peace of mind knowing that my home is much safer. He was very helpful in my selection of the correct type of exterior replacement fixtures. As a "lagniappe" Rylan was extremely helpful when -- based on his time in my attic -- he suggested additional attic ventilation for a portion of my home prior to my roof replacement. Had he not suggested it, I would not have known how much it was needed. He even pointed me to a solar fan for that space, even though he wouldn't be needed for the installation. He also spent extra time helping me label all the circuit breakers in the new panel. Overall, although he may not be the least expensive electrician you will find, he is extremely conscientious, knowledgeable, careful and very easy to work with, both for scheduling and when on-site. Personally, I don't mind paying a bit more for quality service. Would not hesitate to call Rylan again for any future electrical work.
Description of Work: Electrical Panel Upgrade, repair/replace multiple interior & exterior outlets, Install 5 exterior fixtures & photocell, repair/replace 2 garage door opener wiring, install dedicated grounded outlet for computer room, other miscellaneous electrical repairs & upgrades. Pretty much everything except re-wiring the entire house.

I just joined Angie's list today and picked this electrician based on the previous reviews. I called Rylan this morning to check an outlet that did not work well. That outlet is under the sink and is used to plug in the garbage disposal. I asked him what he charged and he answered that a service call was $89.00 Rylan arrived in a timely manner and after looking at the outlet, he said that it needed to be replaced... He was very friendly and talked up a storm He then said that I needed a new cover for the the outlet because my existing cover did not fit, so he went to Ace Hardware to get one. Since the outlet is used to run the garbage disposal, he said that the light switch on the wall would more than likely go next and that I would be calling him in 2 weeks. He recommended that we change the light switch as well so we told him to go ahead. He talked so much that when he left for Ace Hardware, I decided to go upstairs so that he could finish his work faster. My husband stayed with him and he paid him. After he left, I was shocked to see the invoice of 180.01 He charged us $89 for the service call, (which I expected) $6.01 for parts (that's ok too) and $85 for labor!!! I understood that the service call would include the labor! He said that he has to come back tomorrow because he broke the outlet cover he purchased at Ace while installing it. I don't want him to come back and will replace the outlet cover myself!
Description of Work: replaced one electrical outlet and one light switch.

A recessed cylinder light over dining room table had been fading in-and-out for a few days, then finally went out for good. Rylan arrived on schedule and immediately went to work on the problem. He diagnosed the problem by systematically eliminating possible problems -- starting with the usual types, ie faulty switch, socket, etc. After that he removed the cylinder housing and tested the circuits and narrowed the problem to a burned out thermal regulator. The previous owner of our house had blown insulation into the attic space and had covered the light housing unit. It is not a light that gets a lot of continuous use and we had switched over to fluorocarbon light bulb, but the heat had built up (it gets really hot in the attic space during summer) and the regulator finally burned out. Rylan then went to a nearby Home Depot and purchased a similar unit that he cannibalized for the needed part. He fixed the light, replaced housing unit (making sure the insulation was no longer blocking it) and cleaned up the fallen insulation on the floor. Total repair time from start to finish was only about 75 minutes.
Description of Work: Rylan diagnosed problem, went to Home Depot for a replacement part, returned and completed repair.

Job went fine. Rylan had done work for me in the past. I did obtain multiple bids for this project, but chose Rylan b/c I had found him to very knowledgeable, honest, and easy to work. During the planning phase, Rylan was extremely helpful in guiding me through the intricacies of dealing w/ both Oncor and my retail provider for the needed power cutoff/hookup. He had his City permit pulled in a timely manner and knew the latest details about Dallas code updates, so that we could get a "green tag" on the 1st visit (it was VERY cold the day he worked, so it was critical not to have to wait overnight for a power hookup). On the day of the work, Rylan and his helper arrived early (even before Oncor) & got right to work. They were pretty much ready when the inspector arrived @ 3:30 to release the job for a hookup. The only glitch was that the inspector requested an unexpected upgrade to the secondary cold-water ground, necessitating significant work in the attic, which Rylan accomplished perfectly, despite the inconvenience. Although I was then given a major runaround by both Oncor and my retail provider before a crew arrived late that night to restore power, this was NOT in any way Rylan's fault. In fact, he even called in that evening to check on the status and called Oncor himself to try to expedite the process. And he called me back the next morning to see that all had gone OK. The installation of the dedicated, grounded circuit to the home office went fine, as well. Everything went fine and worked fine after the job. I especially appreciate Rylan's willingness to answer questions. He spent significant time in the attic and was able to alert me to the status of wiring, AC ducts, attic ventilation and other elements that will be most helpful as I proceed with my exterior renovation work. I will hire Rylan again for other work (install attic light, replace exterior fixtures, etc.).
Description of Work: Upgraded electrical panel from c.1950, outdated model to new, code-compliant panel, with new service mast and 2 new grounds. This entailed significant work, as old panel was hidden behind closet paneling in interior wall, and new panel/mast required work on both exterior masonry and roof. Removed old service mast. Disconnect old power attic vent on roof. Also installed an outdoor, grounded, outlet and a dedicated, grounded circuit to home office.

Rylan was accomodating with my tough work schedule to meet me for a bid. His bid came in much lower than the other 2 bids I got. However, I wasn't worried because he explained everything in detail to me and seemed to know what he was talking about. Rylan and his team performed the work during the day while I was at work, so I did not even have to be there. There was not debris left behind after the job which was nice. The only problem I had was the breaker that kept tripping from hairdryers. While I wish this would have be fixed from the beginning, when I did call Rylan about it, he got there very quickly (once again while I was at work) and fixed it. My only complaint was that I had to pay another $400 for him to fix this. I thought it was supposed to be fixed correctly from the beginning when he installed the brand new breaker panel in my house.
Description of Work: I bought a house that needed an electrical overhaul. Rylan got me a brand new electrical panel box and recircuited everything to move the box from inside to outside the house (to follow current fire codes). He also grounded a couple of outlets around the house and installed GFCIs. I also have a guesthouse that he placed it's own submeter on to meter the electrical output of that house as well. A couple of weeks later, the bathroom hairdryers were causing one of the breakers to trip, so Rylan came out and rewired one of the bathrooms to a different breaker.

Rylan arrived on time on day 1 to assess the job, which required access to crawl-space under the house. He provided me an estimate, & he and an assistant arrived as promised on day 2. They completed the work promptly, kept the mess to a minimum, and charged what was estimated. Rylan even removed a stuck-in-place splitter from a recep in the garage and didn't charge extra.

I called the owner early one morning and explained I needed an evaluation before the end of the day in order to make some decisions on buying a house. He said he would come by between two scheduled jobs or at the end of the day. At 5:15, I called him to ask when he would visit. He told me that he couldn't come because he had another job to complete and offered to come by the next afternoon. I said "forget it" since it would be past my deadline. I was really annoyed that he accepted the job and didn't keep his word. He is not going to be my choice for the service panel upgrade and extensive electrical work I'll be doing as I remodel the new house.

I found Lakewood Electrical on Angie's List and was favorably impressed, especially since it is in my general neighbor. I called Mr Gray early in the week. He was very nice and talked to me at length about my electrical issue - no electricity in my second bathroom and the circuit breaker continued to pop. He agreed to come over 2 days later. The evening before he was to have come, he called and told me that his current job would not be finished, so we rescheduled for the next week, a Tuesday. When Tuesday rolled around I waited until 2 hours after he was to have arrived and then called him. This time I got the voice mail. I left a message asking if I had misunderstood. I left my phone number and asked him to call me. It has now been nearly 36 hours, and still nothing from Lakewood Electrical. I am very very disappointed.

Contacted Rylan from AL after a frustratingly bad experience w/another contractor who had previously done work for me (had to fire them before they even came out to overcharge me for this). Prompt contact, set up appointment. Unfortunately, another, major emergency job came up requiring Rylan to notify me of the need to reschedule. Since mine was a small job, that was OK. Rylan did arrive on time for the new appointment, and fixed the problem in 10 seconds flat (NO, it wasn't a popped circuit breaker), but was very helpful explaining how to prevent/fix similar problems. Also spent >1/2 hour consulting about other past/current electrical issues in the home. He clearly understands his work, was very knowledgeable. He could well have "found" a more serious problem and/or charged me a ton of money, but he didn't (I suspect the other contractor would have done both); I was prepared to have to replace the entire fixture/wiring. I felt guilty that he only made 1/2 of a standard service call fee for his trouble. But I will definitely bring him back to do additional work (replacing old fixtures, upgrading service). Another GREAT Angie's List find!

He did an excellent job and covered an old electrical outlet for me for just the charge of the blind plate. I am scheduling him again next week for another job.

It was great. We got an estimate that was competitive compared to the other 4 we received. He arrived when he said he would, stayed to get the job done. Rylan even waited for my husband to go buy the correct bulbs so he could test the lights and make sure everything was working properly. He kept the project tidy, built out the frame around the new (larger) electrical box, and was conscientious about keeping our dogs from running out the front door.
Description of Work: Replaced defective electrical panel; removed old lighting, installed 12 new recessed lights on separate dimmer switches; repaired defective 3 way lighting switch.
