J&M Glass Co., Inc. gave me the best price. They did really well. I went to their show room and they showed me their windows. I liked their product and the people who gave me the estimate. They were a little slow getting back to me. They did what they said they were going to do.

It was an excellent experience working with J & R Glass. We got estimates from several window companies for both replacing the existing glass and also for replacing the entire window frames. J & R Glass Company in Dallas was by far the lowest estimate for replacing the glass. They custom make the windows in their Dallas shop and can provide them at lower prices that way. Some companies only replace the glass and some only replace the entire window assembly. The cost to replace just the glass was so reasonable with J & R Glass that we could not justify spending many times more to replace the frames too. Our old frames are in good shape and look great with the new glass installed. We chose lowE glass to reduct the solar heating in the summer. When they were installing the new glass, the afternoon sun was shining through the old glass and the new glass in window panes next to each other and with my hands I could feel the difference in the heat passing through the old and new lowE glass. It was impressive. Only a fraction of the sun's heat made it through the new lowE glass. The Manager of the shop (Richard) came out a couple of weeks before the installation date to take the measurements himself. The windows were all made to fit and fit our frames perfectly. The installers were professional and fast. They installed new plastic trim around all the new windows and did a great job getting the new glass centered in the old frames and applying the adhesive uniformly. They cleaned up totally after they were finished and you could not tell they had ever been here, except that our windows are now perfectly clear instead of looking foggy and dirty between the panes. We had white bars in our old windows (1988 style) and we went with no bars in the new windows. The effect is to make our windows look even larger. We used to have an occasional bird fly into our old windows with the bars. For some reason, no birds have flown into the new windows. We though it might be a problem for the birds not to have the bars in the windows, but it is apparently not a problem. When we need more windows, we will call J & M Glass for sure!
Description of Work: Replaced the original 1988 windows on the West side of our house that had fogged up on the inside of the glass panels.

They are fantastic. We are very happy. They are professional and thorough. Judy is the saleslady that we have been working with, she is very good. The knowledge, information, and literature is very complete, thorough, and professional. They only do one window at a time so your home isn’t open to the elements. They are very clean inside and out. They have not done any damage. They have maintained the integrity of the wired security system. They were extremely careful when they took out the old windows and put in the new ones. The windows look wonderful. The triple pane windows are very energy efficient. I highly recommend this company. After the windows are put in, a city inspector came out and said that their work is very high quality. The only thing that could be better is getting the warranty information out in a more timely manner.

I called made an appointment. They showed up on time and looked at the windows took measurements and took all my information and told me they would either call or send an email. The saleswoman said they usually only accept 6 windows or more and I needed 5, but because they are so large she would check and get back to me next week. They took the time to come out but didn't bother to contact me for my business.

Good estimate process but a bad bid. This salesman did not understand what his company could offer.
Description of Work: We had to replace eight double-hung windows in a 30-year0old house. J7M was a contractor that had been recommended by others and we were eager to give them an opportunity to bid. The rep that they sent was not very professional and did not have a good understanding of his company's offerings.

Response from J&M Glass Co. Inc.
The salesperson assigned to your bid is a wonderful representative for our company. He has been with our company for 1 year, however prior to that he had 9+ years in the window industry. We understand that sometimes individual personalities clash, but it has been our experience that he, our sales representative, is knowledgeable, professional & extremely courteous. We wish you the very best.

Response from J&M Glass Co. Inc.
We at J & M Glass are a window manufacturing company that also provides installation services for its products. However we do not do GLASS ONLY replacement for individual glass panes. The primary reason is because of the size of the DFW metro area. There are many fine area based glass companies that provide broken glass replacement service and we leave it to their capable hands, this saving you money and time. We do install individual windows for clients, however that is a full window replacement involving frame and all. Maybe AngiesList can create a category that better distinguishes between glass and window replacement services. We wish you the very best.

The salesman arrived promptly at our house at the appt time. He was polite, listened to our needs, and then made a recommendation from their line. He answered a number of questions regarding materials choices giving pros and cons for each. He made rough measurements for the door (sliding glass, vinyl coated aluminum, double insulated panes with US tint) and bay windows (similar). He gave me a written quote on the spot. There were five color choices and he left the color chips with me so my wife and I could confer. We called several days later and asked to visit the "plant" -- all of their products are made to order locally -- we wanted to test a patio door for ease of opening and overall look. The salesman met us and took us thru the plant and answered several more questions. We committed to the work that day. The work backlog was about 2+ weeks -- we chose an installation date some 4 weeks forward. They install T-Fr (don't remember if weekends were available or not). We were told that a technician would contact us to come out in the next week to get exact measurements for both openings. The only "glitch" occurred as the office staff said he could get all necessary measurements from the outside. We arrived home to find the tech there and he did indeed need inside access (seems reasonable). He was very quick and polite. On installation day, the crew arrived about 10:30AM. The crew consisted of a crew foreman -- a young man who seemed very experienced, polite, and efficient. He had two less experienced helpers (both had a lot more knowledge than I but needed direction from time to time from the foreman). The old door and windows were removed quickly and the openings evaluated and re-measured. The new units were rough hung and leveled in the openings within an hour (it was 100 degrees outside). They spent several hours stuffing insulation into cracks around both units and then placing finish trim strips and caulking around the openings. The work was done very professionally. The door was easy access (patio) and they cleaned up completely. The bay window overlooked a flower bed with large shrubs in front. They worked around the shrubs to the degree possible and tied one back for about an hour. I thought they did an excellent job of working around our situation. Clean up of the entire site was done and they were gone by 4:00PM. Because of the cash discount I paid the foreman -- his copy of the invoice was complete and accurate as to the price we had agreed to. Excellent service and we love the door and windows. I rated their price as a "B" not due to any dissatisfaction. They were not the low price nor were they the highest. It was a fair price -- just everything costs too much :)
Description of Work: We needed to replace a patio door in an older house (not quite standard size so a drop in from Home Depot was not going to fit) and replace (upgrade) an older single pane aluminum sash three part bay window in the breakfast room.

They performed the glass pane replacement from outside the house - so we did not have to come home from work in the middle of the day while they were working on it. The original window was just a 'picture' window with no way to open it. It was very easy to work with the representative who came to my home to easily custom design the new window. Everything was well documented. The crew of 2 did a great job and left my dining room very clean. It is so very quiet with that window in place (3 AC units between me and the neighbors next to that window). Well insulated these past 2 winters. Very happy. Still saving to have the rest of the house done!

We had 9 large custom dual-pane windows in our house that had fogged over the years and required replacement. We obtained quotes from four companies and while J&M was not the lowest bid they were quite competitive. In the end we selected them because they had the longest warranty on the work, had a high Angie's list rating, and were very professional throughout the process. In addition, since they both manufacture and install their windows we determined they had the best chance to be able to properly replace 5 of the windows that were very large gothic arches.Manufacturing hit a slight delay which pushed our installation date, but we were notified by a phone call prior to the date so the reschedule was painless. The installation took a day and a half and went without a hitch. Honestly, it couldn't really have gone better from start to finish. We'll certainly use them the next time we need window replacement.

It was a great job done on our window replacement. We love them! The 2 man crew you had installing our windows were wonderful. They were friendly, helpful and respectful. They always arrived on time and worked very hard. Each day before they left everything was cleaned up, blinds replaced and furniture moved back when they needed to move it. This is the best remodel we have ever been through thanks to your company. We are completely impressed and appreciate the high quality windows and service as well as the reasonable price. We have a second home and will be using J&M Glass Co. Inc to do the windows there also.
Description of Work: After receiving a free estimate we decided to go with J&M Glass Co. Inc to replace the windows in our home. The salesperson was very informative and appreciative of what we were trying to accomplish (we live in an historical area). They measured our windows, gave us the estimate and were not high pressure. We were then put on the schedule, and the crew showed up on time the day schedule. They were very careful and clean throughout the entire process and we could not be more pleased.

The work performed was exceptional! The crew that came to the house was very courteous and professional and they did a really good job cleaning up after the installation. They explained everything in detail and were very hard workers The quality of the windows and the workmanship is excellent! The house is so much quieter now with the new windows! And we could really tell a difference in the temperature of the house especially in our master bedroom. That bedroom is always the coldest in the house and we could feel the impact immediately after the installation. We need a new patio door at some point and will call them to do the work. The experience was very smooth from start to finish and we couldn't be happier with the quality of both the windows and the service we received.

We want to thank you for the kind words about our price and quality of installation. As the owner, I personally want to apologize for leaving you with a bad feeling with regard to our follow up. I want to assure all our staff; fabricators, installers, office and sales are professional and dedicated to making your experience with us the best they can. The delay in processing your final paperwork rests squarely on my shoulders; I review all final paperwork and personally sign the warranty. We have been truly blessed with business and I've fallen behind in my paperwork trying to fill those needs. I do understand the importance to get this resolved for you and hope we can find a way to make you happy with us again.

I think I would use them for the job. Judy, the co-owner, came out and did a very good job. I had a couple of estimates from other company, but these people sound very reasonable and they seem to be very professional. They are better than the others. They have offered a great product. The owner came out to present the product and give an estimate. He had a good manner and answered questions satisfactorily. Several of the things he told us would happen did not, however. The team who came to install the windows were polite and competent, but not the father-son team which the owner said they always used. The installers cleaned the inside well after installation but did leave some glass in the yard. They also trampled our landscaping, perhaps an inevitable result. The windows look good. Several leaked, however, and had to be caulked in a follow-up visit (which they responded to promptly). They cautioned me not to open these windows, which is disappointing. One of the windows still doesn't close correctly when opened. The top part, which is very heavy because of the triple pane, comes down and won't go back up without a great deal of effort and finagling to get the bottom part of the window to shut and lock properly. The other windows which I am able to open do not have this problem when opened and do close and lock properly. We have not yet notified the company of the problem with this one window, so I am unable to report on their responsiveness to this problem. One of the supposed advantages of these windows was their ease to open for cleaning, etc., so I cannot say I find this to be true.

Our initial estimate was provided by Martin Gates. We did receive quotes from other companies that were significantly lower than the J&M glass quote. However, because of the quality of the products we were being quoted, we decided the additional expense was justified and decided to move ahead with J&M glass. We were provided a written quote with all measurements and design selections noted and were told that if any changes were needed just write them on the quote and fax it to them if we want to proceed. Some of the items on the quote were incorrect so we noted the changes and faxed it in. There were multiple issues when it came time for the install. The hardware (hinges) provided on the doors were incorrect and the wrong type of door was brought (single door as opposed to french doors). Martin was very willing to correct any problems that came up, and he did so. However, this process took approx. 4 months from start to finish. Another issue we had is that the installers never showed up until nearly lunch time and then expected to stay well into the evening (6 - 7 pm). Luckily all of our old windows and doors were still in working order so the time was not a big issue for us. Although with the amount of money you spend for this kind of work you do expect it to be performed in a timely manner. The quality of their products is unquestionably excellent. The quality of installation is good, however, it could be better. The caulking on our window trim is not the same color as the trim itself, and on more than one door the existing trim was too short so I'll have to fix it myself because the installers left it as is. In addition, since the completion of the installation we haven't heard anything else out of the company so I assume that no one will be out to inspect the installation and ensure that we are happy with everything. Again, for the cost, these are things that you expect to happen and they don't.

I called the company and Judy answered the phone and set up an appointment to meet me at the house within a day. She walked around the house while asking questions about our needs and what we were looking to accomplish by replacing the windows. She took measurements and provided an estimate very quickly. The was no pressure or follow up other than returning my calls and answering our questions, they (Judy and her husband) were very patient and helpful. This is a family owned business and they are prideful of their work and employees. Everyone was polite and professional. Upon deciding to use their company, we signed the order form with no money down. They showed up on the promised date and started a multi-day installation of the windows. The installation crew did a very good job. The interiors / sheet rock / floors were well protected and they did no damage to any of the interior of the house. They cleaned up both inside and out and communicated throughout the process. As others mentioned, this is a well run local company that is well worth hiring. This is one of the best I have employed in a very long time. We have had no problems and have no commplaints

Before purchasing the windows, I went to the factory in Dallas to meet the owner to help educate me on why his windows were superior to other brands of windows. Great learning experience and one of the reasons I purchased from them. I talked to at least 10 other window companies and not one could explain the different construction steps that are important to the quality of the window. We discussed everything from the type of vinyl, reinforcement in the window, how the vinyl is welded together, the various seals around the glass, glass glazing's--this is important since it can cast different colored light on your room, thickness of glass, use of a super spacer, the thickness of the overall panel of glass exceeded 2020 energy standards, the window latch quality, the special spring used to raise the window--this is important for a very heavy triple pane window to make it effortless to left a heavy window, whether to have foam insulation blown into the hollow portions of the frame (studies on this show this is a good idea in the north but not in the south, also there is a risk during the welding process that the foam melts into the corner welds and thus weakens the window) how the window is installed, the construction of the bar used to lower and raise the window, the various seals around the window, ease of replacing a pane of glass in case one breaks, how water and moisture escape from the bottom seal area. The installation took a day for two guys. They did have some challenges with one of the bathroom windows which was a casement window that was in an extension box. Due to the thickness of the new window, they had to run to the hardware store to get wood to frame it out. I asked them to use a treat lumber and they came back with some very nice cedar--which is just as good. I gave them the matching paint and they painted the installed piece. No extra charges for this effort.I was concerned that the inside drywall, which was freshly painted, would get torn up during the installation. There was not a scratch and it looks perfect. The workers covered the work area and while one took out parts of the window, another held up a tarp to prevent debris from entering the home. Everything was cleaned up as if they were never there. This is a product that was made in Dallas, and the glass was made by Guardian glass in Waco. The vinyl comes from Canada. The spring is from Germany. Overall I felt I wanted to help stimulate the local economy as well versus other states and the price was very competitive with all the other companies I got quotes from. I would definitely recommend them. They also sell doors, fiberglass and aluminum windows--which are all great products. This company also goes by a franchise name of Thermal Windows. This branch in Dallas used to be owned by the parent company of Thermal Windows but was sold many years ago to the current owner. He keeps the branding and buys the vinyl from the Thermal Windows parent company.
Description of Work: We had 6 windows replaced around our master suite bedroom and bath area with triple pane windows. We went with the 55 low e glazing. This provided maximum heat rejection. When we opened the curtains in the mid morning the old windows, builder grade double pane aluminum, would reach temperatures of 155 degrees due to the direct summer sun. The new vinyl windows were around 99 degrees. Big difference. Once the curtains were open for a while the temp on the windows would drop to about 10 degrees about room temperature--outside was in the mid-90s. Also with the triple pane we blocked out a lot of airport noise and outside sound that I was not even aware of until I realized how quite the room became.
