Michelle was awesome! She's an inspiration to me. I originally was going to try to do this bathroom project myself, but after a number of mishaps and then a texturing experiment went awry, I threw up my hands and called in an expert. My bathroom had popcorn ceilings, a roughly textured wall, and this overhang thing that I had taken down, leaving a giant hole in the wall and ceiling. Michelle replaced the drywall, smoothed out all the walls, and textured everything evenly. It took longer than anticipated but she was working hard the whole time, and the quality looks great to me. She even pulled the toilet for me so I could paint behind it more easily. I could tell she values quality and getting the job done right. The price did end up being more than I expected, but I was still glad that she didn't just try to slap it together quickly and leave. I would still agree that it was a good value for the money. I also would highly recommend Michelle for any job or have her come back do work for me again if I needed it. I was so inspired though that I jumped back in today with priming and painting the walls myself!
Description of Work: Floated all the walls, repaired two 5 foot by 1 foot long holes in the wall, textured walls
Seamless service. Great people. Very professional.
Description of Work: They came out to repair my 8 ft gate in my wooden fence. It took 2 handymen to do it, as it is a very heavy gate. They were right on time and went immediately to work and had it repaired in one hour. Great service. Would definitely use them again.

No services done, I rejected their bid for services because of a lack of understanding the scope of work and the time they estimated for the small task I had.
Description of Work: First of all, I only contacted this vendor for a quote, and I did not hire them, but the above check box items assume I had work done. I called this vendor because they had a 2 hour service coupon going for $160, I wanted to see what their normal pricing was and compare it to the coupon. My work was baseboard installation, and I had all the materials on hand and there are only four 90 degree cuts, and five 45 degree cuts in a 11x12 foot room, very basic. They said it would cost about $300, I asked about the 2 hour coupon for $160, and they reported that it was a 3 hour job. It is a 3 hour job for me, but for someone who does this for a living it is 45 minutes. It was an instant rejection on my part, and I'm still shopping for someone. Just because a company is listed on Angie's List doesn't mean you get a great deal, you still have to do the heavy lifting yourself! Shop around and be smart.

Michelle is the handyma'am who showed up to do the backsplash removal and installation of new drywall work. Short and pleasant with happy eyes, and loaded with tool belts and saws. Even though I'm a woman who is a bit of a handyma'am myself, first thing I asked was the discriminatory question, "Can you handle this?" (I can't believe I asked that.) Michelle took the question in stride, I'm happy to say, and told me that she sure could, had done this type of project a number of times before. And indeed she did do a superb job. She knew what she was doing when she got that tile off, the drywall off and out, installed new drywall, and taped & compounded it. She took care around the electrical outlets. I watched for the most part. She was helpful in telling me the steps she was doing, the tools she was using, and answering my questions. I'm no stranger to workers and repairmen working in my old house, so I can tell you that she did a fantastic job. The drywall is a beautiful, even surface, ready for the next phase of my backsplash project. I have several projects in the near future to do, and I'll be calling Handyman Matters and Michelle in particular. I also used Handyman Matters a year or so ago, and they did a wonderful job on that, too. This is a great service to call for various and sundry projects around the house that don't call for licensed, professional (and very expensive) contractors. Update 8/31/14: As I progressed to finish out the backsplash drywall and do the backsplash, I found that the new drywall dipped in 1/4 or so inches from where it meets pre-existing drywall. I had noticed this before, and called attention to it, but didn't realize it was recessed that much until I went to add joint compound to it and realized the dip may be too deep to fix with compound. The drywall is back away from the counter almost the whole length, so I'm not sure how to fix that. Maybe it will have to be replaced. I should've measured and inspected more. Just letting others know to look out for the details. I was in too much of a hurry and didn't know enough about this to look for that.
Description of Work: Remove rile & drywall backsplash, install new drywall, joint & compound it

Though this firm advertises a local Dallas address and phone number, it's a national referral agency. I was on the phone for about 15 mins providing details of my project, address, email and phone number only to be hold that someone in 'in my area' with this particular expertise would contact me right away.... Never heard from them again.

We decided not to use them for anything after the bid process was completed. So they did no actual work for us. However, during the bid process, they were very slow to respond to initial inquiries, it took a very long time to actually receive a bid, and we thought the pricing was outrageous. We decided to go elsewhere and are happy with that decision
Description of Work: We asked them to bid on multiple aspects of a home remodel project that included carpentry, painting, window restoration, plumbing, light electrical, and other handyman projects.

12/4/13 - It went great! Michelle arrived on time and got straight to work. Seeing this woman contractor do things my husband cannot do well...just amazing to say the least. Inspiring. Unlike most contractors (er, men), she cleaned up after herself without being asked. Her work is fast and perfect. No lies. No ego. This means a lot, coming from a picky perfectionist...and a woman, troubled by narcissistic and dishonest GCs, one after the other, that give the few good ones a bad rep. I expected the normal; a man GC scheming for money and project upgrades, over charging, talking smack about other companies, saying "my guys" can do it all and telling me it's normal to charge $200+ to do a 15 minute tub overflow cover and stopper replacement. Oh, I have a whole list of these contractors. Most from AL. I bought a deal for 4 hours. She did not spend an hour writing the invoice or asking pointless questions, as can be seen with other AL vendors with time based coupons. I also didn't see that big eyed bulge or daydream look when she saw the bathrooms, which is a clear indicator that you're about to try to rip and p*** me off. I got the exact opposite for once and for the first time was at peace with a contractor, mainly because of her extremely rare, honest demeanor. Like a breath of fresh, pure, non-polluted air, as corny as that sounds. Scent de Handyman Matters? Love it. 1/6/14 - Update: Handyman Matters finished the upstairs bathroom project on 12/20. Joe did a fantastic job! However, I requested a quote for both the upstairs finish and master bath from Stacy, requesting a project quote, rather than an hourly quote. She said this could be done. Chuck came out on 12/9, stayed over an hour and said I'd get both quotes by 12/11. I got one late and not completely accurate and hourly, of course. The master quote was never received. I asked Joe about it and he talked to Chuck. Nothing. Bonnie called the week of 12/20 and said it was on it's way, but she thought I didn't want it. Huh? Then she calls back on 12/30, asking to schedule a time for Chuck to come out to see the master so he could provide a quote...Umm..didn't he already do this? We didn't spend 90 minutes in the upstairs bath. I asked her to have Chuck call me. She said he'd call "next Monday". A week? So Chuck calls today, brutalizes my name and says that Bonnie said I wanted to speak with him. I ask him about the quote that I was supposed to get almost a month ago. Again, he tells me that Bonnie thought I didn't want it. I reminded him of his promise of having the quote to me by 12/11. Then he says he isn't going to argue with me, do I want the quote or not. Really? You're not doing your job and get attitude with me. Where is this coming from? I'm only trying to hand you $10K+ for a pretty bathroom remodel. Why would I have you call if I didn't want the quote? Regardless, the communication up there is sub-par for the office staff. If you lost the info on the master, just say so instead of giving me a month long runaround over a quote. All the issues were due to Chuck only. Again, Michelle and Joe rock! So, if you want fantastic service in your home, they're great. But getting to that point with the communication issues, misquotes, no quotes, bypass Chuck and request another sales rep.

Chuck showed up right on time ( like always). We have used Handyman Matters for 3 yrs. Chuck has been our go to guy for all repairs. He quickly repaired our door frame to our water closet and them successfully leveled my toilet base that had been rocking. Then he took on the 53 year old light socket and it did not want to comply, but with his usually skill and patience Chuck prevailed!! Then our tradition of placing Christmas lights on our home. We have a small home and it is done quickly. I do not get up on ladders and leave that to the skilled professionals. Another great job by Chuck and Handyman Matters.
Description of Work: Repair door frame and caulk edges, Replace utility room light socket, level toilet and caulk and put up Christmas lights.
I have used this company, for the last 3 1/2 years, for anything and everything. I am a widow, handicapped and live alone. They take care of everything even down to changing lightbulbs. Even when I have to call them at the last minute, they always do their best to work within my schedule. I trust their employees in my home. They are so nice and always clean up any "mess" they might make. I could go on and on. I highly recommend them.

Scheduling was easy and they were on-time to all appointments. One guy performed the wide range of repairs where I would have expected that two or three different tradesmen would have been needed. The representative was very knowledgable and made helpful suggestions. They left no cleanup for the homeowner. Their prices were very reasonable and I will use them again.
Description of Work: Handyman Matters performed a series of repairs (woodwork, tile & painting) that transformed a bathroom renovation disaster to a very nice bathroom. The also repaired a damaged stairway landing.
Chuck and Joe are hard workers and they were very flexible. My brother and I purchased a house that was a "fixer-upper" and the plan was to flip it into a rental house ourselves. We had a very tight schedule to work around (1 month) and the house needed to be fixed right away. When we realized that we could not complete the work ourselves in the short time frame, we called Handyman Matters and several other firms right away. Chuck came out to do a thorough estimate and was very pleasant to work with. He had a very positive "we can do that" attitude about all the work we asked them to do. What sold us on handyman matters was that they could begin work almost immediately and be finished in the time frame that we needed. I was very confident in Chuck and his abilities. The scope of work constantly changed based on priorities (see termite story below) but they were able to adjust, adapt and overcome the problems we ran into along the way. Chuck and Joe worked like a well oiled machine. One night, my brother and I were doing some work on the house in the evenings and found that the water heater had been leaking for quite some time. We pulled back the damaged drywall and found extensive termite damage (termites love damp places). We revealed what we found to Chuck the next day. Chuck quickly looked at everything and determined that the structure of the house was not impacted (which we were super stressing about). The load bearing walls had treated lumber installed when the house was built and the structure was not impacted at all. We were able to rip out all the damaged lumber and rebuild the closet with new lumber. He and Joe were able to rebuild the whole closet like there never was a problem. That entire closet was gutted and replaced from the floor to ceiling. They also rebuilt the utility closet and installed an emergency drain pan for the water heater to prevent any further leaking. This was not in the original scope of work but they concentrated on finishing this project before moving on to other tasks. We had to replace every kitchen appliance (including the kitchen sink). My brother and I were going to tackle it ourselves until we realized that we were in way over our head. We already had the new counter tops (formica) and appliances. Chuck and Joe made it look too easy. Everything fit like a glove and everything worked great and it turned out much better than if my brother and I tried to do it. They were able to fix a hole in the roof by removing the section of roof that was rotted, then they replaced all of the rotten decking. They made sure to use the same shade and style of roofing shingles (we didnt ask them but they did it anyways). I really appreciated their attention to detail on all repair matters and really appreciated their "can-do" attitude. They are definitely not the cheapest but I know we would not have gotten quality work like theirs for less money. They have a lot of experience and it shows. I would not hesitate to call them again for any other repairs or tasks.
Description of Work: Install new (owner provided) kitchen appliances and new kitchen countertops. Install recessed lighting in kitchen and hallway Repair rotton section in roof (including rotten decking and soffit) Re-build hall closet (severe termite damage) - not in original scope of work Re-build utility closet (leaking water heater rotted out everything below it) - not in original scope of work Install water heater emergency drainpan Install attic access in hallway Install customer provided entry door to garage (fire-rated)

They were great. The guy was on time, very professional, did everything I wanted and was actually done early. I think I bought like a two hour handyman session and he did five things in about an hour-and-a-45 minutes no extra charge. I don't know much about the company, but the guy that I had was excellent so I am assuming the company is good. The best thing was his friendliness and keeping on time and he didn't try to make any extra money and how professional he was. I would use them again in the future. I have actually recommended them to two of my neighbors.
Description of Work: I used Handyman Matters of Dallas Big Deal purchase about a week-and-a-half. He replaced some outside lens, he re-drilled a hole for an upstairs bedroom door. He put the ventilation tent back on my stove, light stove, door and one other I can't remember.
