We are a locally owned franchise of Ace Handyman Services. (formerly Handyman Matters) We do repairs and remodeling work on residential and commercial properties. Our company prides itself on our happy customers. All of our team are employees of the company and we are licensed, bonded, and insured.
John, I believe was his name, was very professional and came up with the best solution. It was simple and worked as he said. What I didn't like was that it was $100.00 / hour. I knew that going into it so I wasn't surprised. I was in a jam and didn't know of any handymen, so this was the best solution at the time. I would have given an A, but the price pulled my grade downtown a B. I would recommend them, but most likely would never use again due to the high price.

We had a long list of minor fixes and touch-ups that needed to be tackled to prepare the house for sale--some exterior trim that needed to be replaced, some drywall patching, caulking, touch-up painting--very typical handyman stuff. Since they came recommended by our realtor, were local, and offered a coupon deal, we went with them. They were very prompt, courteous and professional in quickly scheduling the work to be done and in all interactions, but I did not feel like I got a lot of value for the money. We ended up purchasing TWO of the deals (twice the amount of time) in order to tackle all the list items, and we still didn't get through them all. The first person was not prepared to tackle the exterior trim job, so we scheduled that for the next person to handle on a different day. The first person ended up doing just the caulking and drywall patches, but it seemed to take A LONG TIME. I easily could have completed the same amount of work in the same time, and I'm not a professional. If this was highly-skilled work, I would not be complaining about paying $80/hour, but all they did was calk and patch a wall. Because simply caulking and patching took so long, there was no time left to touch-up paint over the patches. The second trip got the exterior trim fixed, but that was all that got done, and they didn't have time to paint that trim either. While the experience was fine, I feel like we paid a pretty high price for the very simple work that got completed.
Description of Work: Replaced trim, caulked, patched, general handiwork to prep house for sale.

The service man from Handyman Matters was here on time, even early. He was very pleasant and worked quickly. I showed him how the door jamb had been built out improperly and was causing the door to sag slightly. I told him I wanted the door to fit properly and close securely. He worked on the door for about 45 minutes, after which he stood in the doorway and showed me that it did indeed latch. Only after he left did I get a chance to look carefully at his repairs. What I found did not make me feel my $116 was well spent. Instead of trying to adjust the whole door to plumb, he just eyeballed the job as he went along -- I stupidly assumed he knew what he was doing. I discovered after the fact that he "adjusted" the latch side of the door by pulling the metal frame completely off the wooden door frame and shimming underneath the frame screws with a few pieces of scrap, cheap wood, leaving the entire lower half of the frame over 1/2 inch away from the existing door jam -- plenty far enough to stick all of my fingers under the storm door frame, which leaves the door vulnerable to being pulled off. He also pulled the screws holding the latch plate completely out, broke them, and left them sitting loose in the metal frame, so that my dead-bolt is latching only into the loose metal frame which is hanging 1/2 out from the door jamb. I am left with a door that is significantly less secure than before, less secure than the 30 year old cheap door that used to be on there before I spent $500 on the current door. I also discovered that there was cold air flowing freely into the house as a result of the 1/2 gap between the frame and the wood door jamb, and I have had to try to plug that for the time being with a length of insulation I had handy. I've also discovered that he left the vinyl screw cover loose on the hinge side of the door, blowing in the breeze, and that he apparently stripped out the heads on most of the screws he messed with. I'm frankly fairly disgusted with the quality of work, which is definitely not professional, and not worth a fraction of what I paid. The repairman did say before he left that I could call if I needed additional "adjustment," but I really didn't want these guys near my house again. Update The day after I posted first review, this service called me and asked if they could send a manager out to view the problem. I agreed, and Chuck came out, looked at the door, agreed that it had not been installed properly, and agreed that they would come back out and try to make the work right. I set up a time the next week to have them come out, but they called and rescheduled, then on the reset date the repair person called an hour before the agreed time and cancelled. I called the office again (although at that point I was a bit disgusted with the whole process), explained that I wanted Chuck out for the repair because he seemed to understand what needed to happen, and they agreed to send him. He came out today, dismantled the improper repair and part of the original (marginal) install, installed some new trim pieces in the door jamb, and re-fit the frame. He spent nearly three hours redoing the job the first man had mismanaged in one hour. The door now closes securely, and the new jamb pieces are caulked and ready to paint (which I told him I don't mind handling). Chuck refused to take an additional payment, even for the additional materials. I appreciate his help and feel that he is a reliable and conscientious person. Although I checked "no" above in answer to the question, I will consider using the service again, but I would have to give it some close consideration just because of the hassle involved in getting the job done.
Description of Work: My Home-Depot-installed full-glass front storm door was out of kilter, largely because the original installer did a poor job 3 or 4 years ago and installed it over some 1 x 2 lengths of framing wood instead of properly modifying the existing door jamb before installing. I called this service to get some help adjusting the door so that it will close and latch properly.

As the owner, I was disappointed to read this review. Feedback like this is difficult to hear/read, but the brutal, honest feedback is helpful. We want to do a great job EVERY time we are hired, and we need to learn from our mistakes. We have set an appointment with this customer and our Field Manager later this week to rectify the issue.

They installed a toilet, but it was wobbly and gave me explanation why it was going to have to stay that way. Not really what I want to hear. Make it right- you're the handy man.
We both have two left hands and no spatial intelligence in this house, so we're useless with minor home repairs. We have primarily used Joe, who is extremely hard working, helpful, knowledgable, and competent. There's one person at the company for booking that is a little hard to deal with. Beyond that, there's only one complaint, but it's a fairly big one. Charging a $40 "service fee" on TOP of the $65/hour rate seems rather indefensible. Of course, I acknowledge it's worse for me because I'm sometimes having things done that are so small (hanging racks, putting large furniture together) that I should probably use taskrabbit. But it is steep either way.
Great. Observant, thorough and knowledgeable. The best in Dallas Considering the expert training of these men price is worth it

Daniel was wonderful! He showed up on time and knocked out many tasks quickly. He was even nice enough to make me a list of things he thinks we should fix before we list our house and showed me how to do some of them myself. I would highly recommend this company- their professionalism from scheduling to the service was top notch!

We do not show that we have ever been hired by this customer, nor have we done work at the address listed. We do show a cancelled work order, so a call was made to our office in November by the customer inquiring about work. We will put a call into the customer to see if we can rectify the issues he experienced, as apparently there is still work to be completed.

I thought I left a review on this before. Some time has passed, so my memory has dimmed some. They did a good job, in a fairly timely fashion. I thought at first the price was high, but I probably wouldn't get it for much less. He was very informative and let me know what needed to be done. Most importantly, he did not go up on price once we agreed on the job to be done. I've had no lingering problems with this repair and the renters appear to be happy with the job as well.

We used them more than once, and we are pleased with them. They seem to be very reliable. I believe they are bonded. They show up when they say they are going to. They communicate well before, during, and after. If a project looks like it is going to cost more to handle which is often the case with old homes such as ours, they are good about communicating with that. Their price is reasonable. They are not the cheapest, but they do a good job.

The repairman was punctual, courteous, and professional. He completed all work as requested in a timely manner, I paid him, and he left. End of story or so I thought. Within a day the shower door began leaking again as and all of the toilets began to run again as well. They sent a manager to re-do the work which he claims his original repairman didn't do properly the first time. Within a week the shower door surround began to leak again as did the leaking faucet. I didn't bother calling them back as I will find the time to do it correctly myself at another time for free. Overall I would recommend them but be sure to check the quality of repairs for a week or so after completion.
Description of Work: Had them come out for several things; replace a toilet, fix a leaking faucet and toilets, repair a door jam, fix a mantle, and repair a leaking shower door surround.
