They had a crew of 3-4 people who completed the work in about 3-4 days. They do good work at a reasonable price. I have also used them for tile repairs in the past.

Randy and his crewed showed up on time as promised and corrected the issues I had made when I attempted to install the Laminate flooring myself. Additionally they installed new baseboard and trim for me throughout the downstairs. Highly professional crew and I highly recommend them to anybody needing work done on their floors.

We loved Randy and his brother!! I can not stress this enough. He answered our phone call right away and came out the next day. He spent a lot of time with us going over our options. He was knowledgeable about what kind of flooring we already had and how to move forward. We had trouble finding a place to buy our flooring, so he put us in touch with a flooring company down the street. In this process, We decided if we were getting new floors, we needed to paint! So Randy suggested a great painter for us, Perry. They coordinated together and schedule who would do what and when. We didn't have to worry about anything. We live in an old home in Spring Branch... So there was definite slopping on the slab. Randy put down a sub floor to help even this up. Then they put in our floor the next day... OMG they did an awesome job!!!! It's perfect! Every corner, every tile is perfect. He suggested the 45 angle to make the kitchen look larger. It just feels like a different space and so much bigger. We felt complete comfort with Randy from the beginning. I HIGHLY recommend him. As I said, We just couldn't be happier with the entire experience... start to finish.

The owner came and gave a verbal detail of the work he was going to do, including a lot of extra details. When I saw the stairs finished it was very disappointing. The steps were uneven and inclined. They had to re-do half stair. Then, he sent another company to do the sanding and staining of the hardwood floors, he forgot to tell them some "details" like what side of the sideboard to use, to leave a painted piece that was needed for the vanity entrance, etc. and he did not supervised these other people work at all. Then, he denied some things that were agreed about, for example, the finishing of the tread that he said he was going to get the same finishing than the floors, etc. I would recommend if hiring this provider you need to have close supervision of their work, and a written scope of work.
Description of Work: They installed hardwood floors in a second level, including the stairs and a vanity area with stone.

Installation was just OK. Installer suggested using different wood, oak, for the edge on my stairs. Grain was not a match for the teak and the satin varnish did not match the finish on the wood used for the stairs. Installer did not to change after the install so I let it ride. 8 months after the install, the teak floors started buckling and cupping. Installer insisted that this was due to us leaving the front door open for 6 hours when we had furniture moved into the house. We had our AC checked, our foundation evaluated for leaks, our foundation checked to insure it was not compromised. No problems were found with the stability of our house or foundation. Installer refused to take any responsibility for a defective install. We hired a Certified Floor Inspector, cost of $250, to evaluate the install and he discovered several glaring issues. Installer left no perimeter spacing for expansion of the wood and with solid wood, this is a must! Also, the moisture barrier was not installed and applied properly, causing areas of the foundation to be exposed right down to the foundation. This, along with the lack of expansion space, has caused buckling, cupping and cracking of the wood. We have now hired a law firm to issue a demand letter so we can have our beautiful floors removed and replaced.

Response from BROWN FLOORING
Customer was happy with her flooring for 8 months after the installation. She was not in the house during these 8 months and the floors were beautiful and held up perfectly. If an installation was not done properly keep in mind that problems would occur immediatley not 8 months later. On her stairs, we tried to save customer money and she never mentioned that she was not happy about the grain. Instead of buying s stick of teak stair nosing per step we used oak that we stained and matched to her floors. Until this review she never told us she was not happy. We saved her a lot of money. Had she mentioned there was a problem we would have addressed the issue. After moving in over the summer she started to have problems. This was after 8 months of beautiful problem free floors. At the beginning of this process, she was told again and again not to install a solid wood teak 3/4 inch wood floor in her house. She insisted on doing so. The manufacturer of the flooring also does not suggest that this type of wood be glued down to a concrete slab. In our area solid wood floors are extremely prone to humidity and our weather conditions. Extreme care and caution should be taken to keep homes at proper temps and humidity. A person with a solid wood that is glued to the slab cannot open doors or windows. If they are opened than a means to remove humidity must be immediately started -a dehumidifier must be used. The customer was advised of such and told us that should would make sure she followed all of what was mentioned and that she had to have a solid 3/4 inch teak wood floor. When she moved into her house the movers left doors open for an extended period of time that enabled buckets and buckets of moisture to seep into her house. Around the time of her initial complaint about buckled floors she also asked us for a recommendation for an air conditioner repair man. Obviously the customer was having other issues with the temperature in her home. Which for a solid wood floor should always be kept no higher than 78 degrees and the RH should never exceed 50%. We took up some wood at no charge to the customer and told her to run a dehumidifer in her home. She was to buy more product and we would fix the issue for free. Instead of doing so she tried to find all avenues of pushing the blame of her failing floor onto our company. Instead of doing was she was advised to do, she hired other inspectors and other contractors to try and find out why she was having problems. At this time her floors started cupping and she mentioned that she had to empty her dehumidifier 2-3 times a day which is a strong indicator that a problem is present. A floor is only as good as the climate in ones' home. The customer said she wasn't haven't problems with her slab and that is correct. The moisture was not coming from her slab so the issue of a moisture barrier not being installed correctly is a mute point. We tested the slab prior to installation and did not find a problem But to refute the claim that we installed incorrectly- we have proof that is what installed correctly. We obtained samples from the floor that shows it was applied according to manufactures' specs. Even consulting with the product rep. We used the proper floor prep and new application trowels when installing the product. Moisture not only comes from the bottom of boards but mostly the top. The wood sweats as temperatures and humidity change leaving a customer with moisture coming from this occurrence. Expansion room is given by all experienced contractors. It is known that wood will expand and contract based upon seasonal conditions even if proper maintenance is given. But if too much moisture is present in the climate the expansion room will be taken up and you will have cupped and buckled floors. If the humidity in a customer home rises to just 65 percent, the wood’s moisture content would be 12 percent and the same 5-inch board that was 5 inches at 50% humidity would expand by .079 inches. Across 10 feet of flooring, this could translate to1.9 inches of expansion - this is what causes buckled floors. The inspector nor the customer made us aware of any inspection so we weren't present to explain our side. Especially the fact that we advised the customer not to install this floor and that the manufacturer does not advise to glueing this type of flooring down on a concrete slab. There are a lot of professional flooring inspectors in our area that always mention installer error. They cannot point the blame at the paying party especially when the other party isn't present. Again a customer's floor would fail whitin a months' timeframe if an installation is not done properly. It definetly would not take 8 months. If proper expansion room is not left nor the moisture barrier was not installed properly than the problem would have been seen within a month or so instead of 8 months down the road. So in closing.. Buyer beware solid woods are extremely susceptible to moisture in our area. Great care should be taken when you have them in your home. Although they look great you as a consumer have a lot of responsibility to undertake if this is the road you choose. In this case, we told the customer again and again not to install and she wanted to anyway. No we are here defending our livelihood and having to address a lawsuit. If you are an inspector you are not doing a service to your prospective customers by 'not having the contractor present. A lot of factors go into deciding what type of material to install in ones home. Please listen to what your contractor tells you. They probably have had a situation like such and everyone loses. Please look at our other reviews and draw your own conclusions based upon what is mentioned here. We are a small company and take our reputation seriously. We have installed many solid wood floors and have had great success. We have also had to address a few customers such as listed.

Randy's team floated our uneven concrete floor, then returned the next day after curing to flexible terrazzo tile that we had purchased. No other contractor wanted to lay this type of tile, as it is a bit different than typical residential tile. Randy stated that he had experience with commercial tile and was up for the job. He took two tiles home with him after the estimate visit to be sure that they could be cut with a certain method/ tool. The floor came out great - we would use him again for any flooring project

They came on a Friday, stripped the MBR of all furniture and carpet and leveled the floor (concrete) with filler where needed. They came back the next day and were able to completely install the floor a day ahead of the original schedule, placing all furniture back in place. He responded quickly to questions/concerns about a couple of areas over the next month. All together a flawless project!!
Description of Work: Randy replaced the carpet in our MBR with hardwood that we selected at Lumber Liquidators. He gave us some excellent recommendations on materials and supplies, picked and delivered the materials himself and worked hard to insure a flawless project.

We had Randy and his guys install our flooring recently and they did such a wonderful job we recruited them to install a brick (veneer) wall in our home using ThinBrick. It is real brick just thin and a fraction of the price of real brick. Randy's team was very professional, they gave us a very good price completed the work in 2.5 days. The wall adds so much character to our home and we love the work that Randy and his crew did! I asked him if he installed windows since that was our next project and would love to use him, however, he said that he wasn't very experienced in that and I should go with an expert (I respect his honesty). If you are looking to have a good contractor for flooring or some general contract work, Randy and his team and great and I would HIGHLY recommend them!

Randy came to our new home to personally give us a quote on replacing flooring throughout the entire house. He was very communicative about what the overall cost would be and was willing to work within our strict budget. Randy and his crew were in and out of our house with in a week which allowed us to move in when we needed to. They were very professional, cleaned up everyday and and if something was brought to their attention, were willing to take special attention and/or go the extra mile to accomodate our needs. We moved to Texas from out of state and were very concerned about using a contractor we had never worked with but Randy received great reviews so once we met with him and received his quote we decided to move forward. The experience was a great one and I would highly recommend Randy and his crew for anyone looking for a great, reliable, honest, and hard-working contractor. We will definitely utilize his services on our next property!
Description of Work: Their work included: (1600 sq ft) Demo/removal or old flooring and baseboards Flooring prep for new floors Installation of tile in the kitchen, master bath and guest bath, carpet in the bedrooms and a handscraped laminate wood flooring through out the main areas of the house. 1) Demo'd tile 2) Removed mud base that was found under tile (varied up to 1" thick in spots) 3) Leveled the entire floor with self leveler & built out concrete step base 4) Waited on self leveler to dry. This took a long time due to the amount of leveling required. This also gave Lumber Liquidators time to get our missing trim pieces and stair nosing in. I was not impressed with lumber liquidators constant delays and inability to tell me when my trim pieces would arrive at their store. You might want to use Brown flooring but use a different flooring vendor... 5) Installed flooring in time for my son's birthday and out of town guests to arrive. 6) Came back for touch ups and ensure we were happy with every aspect of the floor.
Description of Work: Randy and his team did an excellent job. We purchased stranded bamboo flooring from Lumber Liquidators and worked with Brown flooring to get it installed. This was to replace a tile floor that had been installed by a flipper right before we bought the house as well remodel a step in the middle of the floor. Randy was professional, up front about pricing, and willing to do whatever it takes to get the job done. Randy demo'd our tile and, like it is with most flippers, found the surprises lurking underneath. He fixed our subfloor, remodeled our step, and installed the floor perfectly. I also felt completely comfortable leaving him and his team working at my house with my wife and son there. There are cheaper installers out there, but you get what you pay for. I would highly recommend Brown flooring.

Randy came over to measure as a subcontractor for Lumber Liquidaters. He was prompt and friendly. My husband was not too thrilled w the cork options at LL so Randy suggested a wholesale option where he was a member of: pro source. They had great cork options. While I paid a bit more than LL, I like this product much more. I was traveling and their install accommodated my travel schedule. They moved all the furniture, cut up the rugs, tossed out all the old smelly padding and leveled the floors of two bedrooms. The next day, they came in 5 strong and laid the floor and 1/4 round. He even placed a transition piece my husband never got around to doing in another room. They were done, cleaned up and replaced furniture and out by 3 pm.
Description of Work: Exceeded my expectations, made it so easy to replace carpet with very nice cork floors! They did exactly what was promised and even more. Picked up the flooring boxes for me at no extra charge, kept things clean. Brought in 4-5 guys and were finished in no time!

To install our flooring, Randy and his team performed the following tasks: Removed existing carpeting from stairs and entire second story. Leveled the floor, which was extremely difficult because our place was built in 1980 and had settled over time. Installed laminate flooring for about 800 square feet of living space. Installed trim, etc. to finish the job. Installed carpeting on the stairs.
Description of Work: Randy and his team were very high-energy. They did a lot of quality work in a little time. The flooring looks amazing. Even a year later we are thrilled with the results.

We purchased engineered wood flooring from Lumber Liquidators and were given the names of installers without any endorsement. Mr. Brown came out to our home within 1 day and gave us a written estimate for the installation. He was very knowledgeable and asked questions to find out what our expectations and needs were regarding scheduling. He and his crew were very punctual and finished the job on time. They moved all our furniture around carefully and put it back where requested as we had earlier indicated that we were switching some room's furniture around the house. Since the job covered 5 days, they cleaned up after each day's work inside and outside. The crew was friendly and worked well together as a team. Very professional. Mr. Brown always returned our phone calls in a timely manner. He was able to install additional tiles (which I purchased) around our fireplace. We love our floors. Brown Flooring made the installation go quickly and without any surprises. Estimates for the wood and prices were exactly correct.

I was given Randy's name by a flooring store that I purchased my hardwood floors through. Our home had a plumbing flood in August and had to be completely gutted downstairs and most of upstairs. Randy came out to give us the bid for the wood floors and we ended up hiring him separately to do the travertine flooring in the rest of the living areas downstairs. Communication with Randy and his wife, Charlotte, was prompt and professional from the very beginning. We scheduled the install about a month in advance. Before the install, we called and asked Randy to pick up all of our travertine materials for us because the travertine was in crates, not boxes. We agreed on an additional fee to do so and from that moment on we loved working with Randy and his crew. They showed up on time when expected, worked promptly and cleanly, were courteous to me and my family and were very trustworthy while in my house. His crew also worked well around other contractors who were in my home at the same time. We forgot to ask Randy to include the kitchen backsplash and upstairs guest bath in the original bid, but we were able to add both those items at an agreeable price and it was no big deal. Randy's work was just beautiful and exceeded my expectations! So, yes, he does a great job, but what touched me most was the way Randy and his brother made a point to talk to my 9 year old each time we came to the house to check on the progress (we lived in a temp. apartment during all renovations). They sincerely asked her if she liked the way things were turning out in our "new" house and it made her feel important. They didn't have to do that but it meant a lot to this Mom that they did. Even with all the changes to the original plan, (and I had a LOT of backsplash to do in my remodeled kitchen) the additional days added to their time was sufficient for the other things we asked them to do. Randy never balked at any changes or suggestions or questions my husband or I had. We could ask his opinion and felt we got honest answers. Overall, I would not hesitate to use Randy and his crew again for any of my flooring needs or to recommend him to family or friends. He showed up early, worked late and did exactly what was asked of him while seeming like he was enjoying every minute of it. Our home had uneven walls and unleveled areas (which we did not know about) that made his job more difficult, but you would never know it by the quality of the job he did here. I am a very "type A" personality and Randy, Charlotte and his crew really impressed me. I don't think you'd be sorry by hiring this company for any type of flooring or tile needs you have.
Description of Work: laid new hardwood floors in study, laid travertine floors with diamond inlay pattern in the rest of the downstairs living areas, replaced tile in upstairs guest bath with travertine, installed new tumbled travertine backsplash in entire kitchen area, replaced old mantle front with new travertine
