I had a great experience with Ryon. I had a big two inch gap at the bottom of my front door and was considering buying a new door for 5K until I spoke with Ryon. I described the problem to him and he quickly came up with the solution of installing a very nice U-Shaped Sweep a the bottom of the door. Initially, he quoted me $300 to fix the door and the final cost was only $240. He fixed my door at a fraction of what have cost to replace it! I would highly recommend Ryon and intend to use him for all of my door needs. He is honest, straightforward and a pleasure to work with.
Description of Work: I had a very heavy 48' front door that had too much space at the bottom (approximately 2') and air was rushing underneath the door. Ryon installed a very nice U-Shaped Sweep a the bottom of the door and closed the gap completely for $240.

Ryon was great to work with. Very professional. He was helpful when I was choosing the doors I wanted. Had lots of great advise on pros and cons of different types of doors. On the big day of the installation, he arrived on time and he and his co-worker proceeded to get the job done in 5-6 hours. They were careful about cleaning up after themselves and hauling away the debris from the work. Previously I could hear wind coming through the front door, one of the back doors wouldn't open at all and the other back door would get stuck when trying to close it. Now I have three beautiful, fully insulated secure doors that shut properly. I would highly recommend Ryon if you want to work with a true professional with a friendly smile.

Ryon did an excellent job on both. The back door now closes better than we can ever remember. The front doors close cleanly and are well sealed. There was no noticable cleanup required when he left. I would recommend highly.

Our home was burglarized in November. The glass on the back patio door had been broken and the door needed to be replaced. Since it was a door that matched another door at the back of the house, we decided to replace both so we could maintain the same look, looking at the house from the back patio. We contacted Ryon, the owner of The Door Guys, and he was so accommodating. He came to our house on a Sunday, his day off, to measure and talk about the type of prefabricated doors that are available. He put us in touch with a good door distributor. There were issues with the sizes of the prefab doors and the size of our door opening. Much to our surprise, door manufacturers advertise 3.0 x 8.0 doors but they are not truly that size. We spoke to others to confirm what we were being told and indeed, Ryon was exactly right. By the way, I spoke to someone at the Lowe's in Atascocita and he said Ryon is an excellent door installer, in fact they have used him to install doors! As a result of our wish to have exactly the same size frame and doors we currently have, we decided to have our doors custom made to fit the space. The people who are making the doors are going to install them. I will provide a review on them when that work is completed. Yes, we are paying more but we don't have to reconstruct the area around the doors nor do we have to sacrifice aesthetics with trim that does not match the other trim adjacent to the doors. Nonetheless, Ryon spent a good bit of his time on this and he did not charge us for it. Also, he was very patient with us to help us understand the issues we needed to consider. If we ever have a need for a door installer, we will be sure to contact him.
Description of Work: Ryon came to our house twice but, as it turned out, we could not use his services. We had to go with a custom door and the door-maker does their own installing.

I initially contacted Ryon through email because I was out of country on business and was trying to line everything up prior to my return. His reply came four days later and initially had me a bit concerned because the email was barely readable with broken sentences and poor spelling and grammar. I decided to speak to Ryon first before passing judgement, however, and am glad I did. Ryon was very professional and knowledgeable and well-spoken; he clearly outlined my options and gave me recommendations. He lined me up with Tri-Supply to commission the build of the back door and even advised me to have them install the dog door during the build as they would charge me about $15 less than he would if he were to install it when he came to mount the door. After I had the door built and we worked out the details of the installation, his installer was prompt, courteous, and very professional. He gave me tips during the installation process on how to go about remounting the old door once my lease expires so I can avoid having to pay for them to come back. The total cost of the installation even came out to be about $25 less than Ryon had initially quoted me; that kind of stand up business practice goes a long ways in my book. In short, Ryon was a pleasure to work with and I will definitely recommend him and use him again should the need arise.
Description of Work: I contacted Ryon to commission the installation of a doggy door into a new door to be installed in the existing frame of a home I just leased. I wanted to keep the original hardware and door frame intact so I could replace the owners original door to the home upon the conclusion of my lease.

I called Ryon Oates and described to him what I needed done, which was to replace a slider patio door and a back door. He asked me to measure both doors. He was in communication with me and always called back or emailed back replies. He explained in detail what he was going to do. He did a beautiful job on both doors, cleaned up and left me a very happy woman. I deal with numerous repair men since I am the HOA Sect/Mgr and Ryon Oates is awesome. Ryon gets an A+A+A+ from me!!

.Wonderfully. Start to finish professional. Could not expect more from these guys. Will definitly call if another issue comes up.
Description of Work: What can I say about the wonderful prompt service? I called and about 2 hours later someone was at my door with tools in hand and repaired both my patio door and my front door. I was not expecting such prompt service, and thought they would only come by to give estimate. The front door would not open easily nor would it lock without difficulty and the patio door was having the same issue. I just got out of the hospital for back issues and knew this was going to be a problem so I called the Door Guys. I had read the article in the last Angies List booklet and have had it on my desk for a few weeks. You could not have better service than this and with a happy smile on the gentlemans face. Thank you door guys

I called Ryon Oates whose business is in Crosby, Texas on Monday, January 21. I live near River Oaks but he said he would schedule me on a day when he had another job close to my area. I described the problem and, without pictures, he told me about what it would cost and how easily he could repair it. I had gotten one previous estimate from a "contractor" but the guy wanted to saw off some of the bottom of the door and glue some wood on top of the door and I knew he didn't know what he was talking about so, sight unseen, I asked Ryon to please schedule me in and just repair it, "whatever it cost". Ryon called me on Tuesday and asked if he could come over Wednesday, January 23 at 11:00 a.m. and said he would call at 10:00 a.m. to let me know when he was coming. He did call at 10 and came at 11 and fixed the door in about 25 minutes! He was polite, friendly, efficient, clean and even made friends with my Cairn terrier, Mickey D! Without a doubt I will use the Door Guys again when I replace my patio doors in a couple of years and for any other door problems that arise. Thank you Door Guys for the prompt repair of our doors at a reasonable price!!!!!
Description of Work: One of our patio door was dragging and had become very difficult to open and close. Ryon removed had to completely remove the heavy metal patio door in order to adjust the hinges in order to align the door properly when it was put back up.

Even though this business's address is Crosby, TX, they told me that they don't work in Atascocita anymore (I'm located north of Crosby in Huffman). It was up to me to design/decide what I wanted, then go buy all the ?parts?, send them pictures of the door as it is now, so that when they had time to show up, all they had to do was put it in. I explained to him (again) that what I wanted WAS NOT anything off the shelf, but rather something more customized, so I really needed them to come and look at it first and let?s discuss options. ?Sorry?we don?t do that.? THEN he asks, ?Just how did you get our number?? Told him I got it off his sign standing on the west side of the Lake Houston bridge. So he says, ?Oh?I didn?t even know that was still there.? I also remember that he said he was in West Houston at the time and that they do most of their work in the Houston area. He offered absolutely NO help unless I wanted something "off the shelf" which I told him several times was not an option since Kizzy (one of dogs) wouldnever go through any hole that even remotely had a chance of "touching her". If you notice, the woman that wrote the positive remarks about his work (reference Angie's List Best Contractors of 2012)was also from Houston, downtown area.

We specialize in the installation of entry doors and frames, we do install pet doors. We do not make custom doors or sell any products, we are a mobile business and service all Houston areas and we do allot of work in Atascosita, and the commons where this customer lives, we strive to help all of our customers, I did not do any work at this address and do not know who this customer is. I special ordered the double front entry doors with two sidelights from Home Depot based on the measurements provided to me by another door installer whom I'd originally intended to use to hang the doors. The price at Home Depot for the Feather River doors was the best I'd found and I caught a sale, so I saved quite a bit on the fiberglass doors. However, the special order delivery was delayed by about a week and, by the time the doors were finally delivered to my house, my original installer was already involved with another project that had him tied up for much longer than I could wait to have him install the doors. Because I was also having siding replaced on my house, I needed to have the doors installed as soon as possible, so I immediately consulted Angie's List to find another installer. The ratings for The Door Guys were all excellent and Ryon answered the phone on my first call to him on a Wednesday afternoon. I told him of my predicament and the need I had to have the doors installed quickly. He asked me questions about the doors I had received and gave me a quote for installation right over the phone, with a few (acceptable) caveats for any unforeseen issues that might occur once he got to the house. His over-the-phone quote was quite competitive with the original quote I'd gotten from the first guy I had intended to use. The best part, however, was that Ryon said he could come to my house himself the very next morning (Thursday) to do the job. I immediately engaged his services. Ryon called me first thing Thursday morning to tell me he was on his way and he got to my house about 8:45 AM ready to go to work.I was quickly impressed with his friendliness and easy-going manner. Being an intermediate home handyman myself, I generally do all my own work around the house, but I'd neither the time nor desire to tackle the door installation, so I was glad to observe Ryon's work during the entire 5 hours he was at my house. Starting with the back door, he carefully uninstalled the door and frame, being gentle with the surrounding trim so it could be reused. He even replaced a small piece of laminate flooring that came off when he removed the old threshold and also installed a piece of trim to make the transition look good. He had the back door up and installed in about 90 minutes and, after installing the hardware, showed me that the door worked very well. The removal of the front doors and existing sidelights was a much bigger job, as they had been custom-installed back when the house was built in 1973. Again, Ryon carefully removed everything and also swept up whatever debris and dust was created during the demolition. Since the siding guys already had a scrap pile going in the front yard for the removal of wood from the house, Ryon was able to easily toss the scraps from the door removal into that pile. Once the door was out, he prepared the opening to receive the new doors and sidelights. At times, I felt like I was in an episode of "This Old House" as Ryon explained everything he was doing and commented on various things during his workmanship. This very personable approach is rare among most in-home contractors who sometimes don't like the homeowner looking over their shoulder. But Ryon took it in stride and exemplified the expertise of someone who really knows their job and is confident in their skills. Ryon fixed the threshold base, then installed the individual sidelights, and finally the double doors. He took care to patiently shim the doors to make certain they were level and opened/closed properly. Once everything was up, he installed the hardware and demonstrated that the doors worked exactly like they're intended. He replaced the trim around the door and even installed a piece of quarter-round at the bottom to give everything a finished look. He cleaned everything up well and even gave me some advise about how the siding guys should handle the hanging of the siding and trim around the outside of the doors. By the time he left, I was completely satisfied with the quality of the work he had performed. And, what's more, he honored his over-the-phone quoted price for the job and I liked that very much! I was extremely impressed with Ryon Oates, especially the fact that it was less than 24-hours from the time I'd originally called him until the time at which I was admiring our new entry doors and back door. I use Angie's List contractors a lot and never hesitate to point out short-comings or deficiencies in work performed, but I also like others to know when I'm completely satisfied with the job that is done. In the case of Ryon and the Door Guys company, I can say I'm completely satisfied and quite happy with my experience with this talented and very affable craftsman. I won't hesitate to refer his services to others in need of door installation.
Description of Work: Installed double entry doors & two sidelights at front entrance. Also installed 32-inch back door at patio. Installed all door hardware including double-keyed deadbolt lock in back and two handle-sets with matching deadbolt locks in the front.

I called Ryon for a quote to install 2 back doors and repair a bi-fold door in my kitchen. He was very patient with me and answered all of my questions over the phone. He asked me to send him some pictures of my current doors so that he could give me a quote. After receiving the quote, he helped me determine what kind of doors I wanted and then helped me locate the best place to purchase them. All over the phone, which was nice considering it saved me a lot of time. Once my doors were ready, Ryon scheduled his employee Juan to install them the very next day. Juan was on time, very professional and did a fantastic job. I love my new doors and my bi-fold door works wonderfully now. If I ever need work done on doors in the future, I would not hesitate to hire this company again. Highly recommend them!

The back door and frame of my brother's house had been broken during a robbery over Thanksgiving weekend. Ryon answered his phone on Sunday, asked me to take photos of the door and send them to him with measurements. He called me back and he and my brother talked about what door to get and how to make it a little more secure. My brother also had an interior door that was broken and needed replacing. Ryon's workman was to come out Monday morning to do the install the doors. The workman picked up the doors from Lowe's on Monday morning and came over at the scheduled time to install them. My brother says he knew what he was doing and was able to talk to things on the broken door that had been done in a sloppy manner when it was installed. We were so impressed that Ryon was so willing to talk with us on a holiday weekend and was able to get a workman out to us so quickly. I would use them again without any hesitation.

The Door Guys did a great job. Due to house leveling I needed a new door and wanted a storm door installed too. I had looked at doors on the Internet and was getting overwhelmed at the choices. I called this company and, although, they do not sell doors, they gave me all the help I needed to get the correct doors and wood. At their request I sent them some photos of my old door and lock. They emailed me a list of supplies and the type of door to get and even informed me where I could get a 10% off coupon for my local hardware store. The Door Guys arrived on time, did a beautiful job on installation and clean up, and made sure all the keys worked and we had instructions on how to correctly lock both doors. I never thought a new door would make me this happy. The Door Guys are patient and professional and I highly recommend them if you need any type of door installed.

Overall, the experience was great. From start to finish, it was an easy project on my part. I called Ryon and I sent him the pictures of the existing door via e-mail and he promptly gave me a quote. I spoke to him immediately after that and he let me know what I needed to purchase. Purchasing the supplies was absolutely no problem at Home Depot as Ryon was very detailed in his small list of things needed. He even gave me the names of people working at the Home Depot out here in Pearland that I could speak to in case I ran into any problems. Juan came when scheduled at a day that was convenient to me and finished in about 2 hours. He was very quick and left everything very clean and pristine. The door opens and closes very smoothly and looks amazing.
Description of Work: Juan came by the house exactly when he said he would. He removed the existing exterior patio door and frame which had completely rotted and replaced it with a new door and frame that I purchased at Home Depot. I had spoken to Ryon a week prior to scheduling the service and he asked me to send him several pictures of the existing door from which he was able to quote me the price of replacing the door. He was very easy to talk to and was very detailed in letting me know exactly what supplies I needed to purchase. He saved me extra money by using the existing inside trim since it was still in good condition. Ryon even told me the names of a couple of people that worked in the door department at the Home Depot I was going to visit if I had any questions when purchasing the supplies needed for the door replacement. Ryon was very personable, helpful and very professional on the phone. Juan, the person who came to our house to do the door replacement was also very professional and quick. He was meticulous and did an excellent job on the installation of the door. The door has never worked or looked better. I can't say enough good things about both of them. I would definitely use The Door Guys again. I highly recommend them.

I called the door guys to get a quote on a thursday, Ryon asked me to send him photos of the door that needed work. I needed the door to be adjusted. The same day I attempted to place a new door knob and deadbolt system in and there was a few things left that I did not feel comfortable doing. (IE: the plate that went inside the door frame was bigger than the space from the old one, it also came with 4 screws instead of two like on the previous plate, also the new door handle required 1 hole to be drilled in the door itself to hold the bottom part of the new handle) The door guys called back Monday night and gave a quote that was well within what I thought was reasonable. ($75-125 depending on how much work really needed to be done) Ryon was great in working with me on my schedule as we had a doctors appointment the next day. Today (Tuesday) Juan came out to do all the work and was in and out in about 30 minutes! He did a great job and completed all the tasks. He was very nice and professional. I would highly recommend this company to anyone that needs door work.

We strive to offer quality customer service and we try to keep up as best we can, with urgency and emergency services needed and veterans day weekend it took a couple of days to get back with this customer, to complete a small fix it job. We try to help when we can we mostly replace and install new doors and frames. I spoke with customer about having an installer that lives near and would make a stop when coming back in from work from servicing Houston. We service all of Houston and try or best to accommodate emergencies and help fix when wewe're able to and not make someone purchase all new doors and materials. I called the company on Saturday and they called me back on Sunday. He said there would be someone in the area on Monday. Juan was amazing, he couldn't be any nicer. He took the door off and measured it and then called me on my cell and meet me at home depot while I was picking up the cat door. He went ahead and installed it for me. he took the time to show me how it works as well. The communication for that company is beyond amazing. I would defiantly recommend them to anyone.

, The finished work was well done. The steel door is not a regular size and finding a satisfactory replacement was difficult. Because the door and frame were in good shape, the Door Guys went beyond their usual routine of door replacement. The technician came with pressure treated wood, cut the replacement piece to size, inserted it, and then installed a u-shape door sweep that covers the repair. Two hours tops. Clean up very good.
Description of Work: Replaced strip of rotten wood at inside the bottom of a15-year old steel exterior door.

Quick and professional. A little messy, but otherwise good job. I don't know if I got a good price or not. The job took about 3 hours. He came prepared with all the necessary materials. He charged $500.00. I am just now getting around to update this review. I feel it is my obligation to others. Work was done in August 2012. Eight months later in April 2013, we had some hard driving rains. The door leaked, causing even more damage than before to the floor. We called and sent pictures. We were given advice on what to do to prevent further damage. We added additional silicone caulking as directed. We have had no problems since. He did not offer to come out and look at the problem, nor did we ask him to, as he was just about to go on a family vacation. I am sure had I demanded he fix the problem or provide some compensation, he most likely would have. However, it would have been more hassle than it was worth. The Door Guys are the third service provider to try and keep water from leaking in and damaging the floor.
Description of Work: Our door was leaking and damaging our floor. He replaced the outside wood on the door frame that had become rotten. He checked for termites, sealed everything very well and replaced the threshold.

Response from The Door Guys
We strive to be very competitive and deliver quality service to help our customers. We made a new custom frame made of vynle instead of wood, original frame that was very weathered due to no gutters. We were able to use the old door and keep overall materials to 220 dollars. All new materials made of vynle and or pvc plastic. The labor of 280 was to make a new prehung unit and replace all inside trim and brick mold on the outside. We delivered a complete job and the only thing needed when completed was to paint and mop the inside floor. We were also able to deliver and hauled away all old materials. There is only one warehouse store that you can order a new prehung unit with vynle competes of the jamb, you will spend about 350 to six hundred depending on the glass insert option..

Ryan replaced the front door and frame and put the storm door back on. He said he could put on any kind of molding around the front door if we would like to purchase something different or dress it up. We purchased two kits, one for the front door and one for the patio door. He installed it at no charge. He then replaced the kitchen door leading to the garage and its frame. He asked us if we would like the door to swing into the garage instead of into the kitchen (where it always hits the fridge). We said YES and he actually took the door back to Home Depot and got us another one since the inswing had to be on the right (ours was a left-handed inswing). He did a marvelous job and even swept up his debris as he went! This guy does quality work at a fair price. I liked him and loved his work. Very professional.
Description of Work: Just had two doors and frames installed by Ryan Oates of The Door Guys. He was excellent!!! He was very personable, knowledgeable and answered all our questions. He not only picked up the doors, hauled off the old ones, but returned to Home Depot to exchange a door when we changed the inswing from left to right. It is rare to find someone like Ryan who takes pride in his work. He even installed different molding around another door in the same visit. This guy does quality work at a fair price. I would strongly recommend him to ANYONE with a door issue. He is the best!
