THE WORK DONE WAS VERY GOOD. THEY LISTENED TO MY CONCERNS, AND HOW I WANTED THE INSULATION INSTALLED AND ADRESSED ALL OF MY ISSUES PROMPLY. THEY ARE VERY GOOD AT WHAT THEY DO AND THE PRICE IS ALSO VERY GOOD. THE ONLY THING I DIDN'T LIKE AS THE AMOUNT OF NAILS I HAVE PICKED UP AFTER THEY WERE DONE. THEY SAID THEY RAN A NAIL MAGNET AROUND THE HOUSE BUT I HAVE PICKED UP ABOUT 50 NAILS. THIS IS NOT THAT BIG OF A DEAL BUT I THINK THEY COULD HAVE DONE A BETTER JOB OF CLEANING UP. WOULD I HIRE THEM AGAIN? YOU BET I WOULD!

Very professional from the original estimate, to the installation and since. The crew treated our house as a home and not a job site. Very respectful and thoughtful group. Great follow up.

They were very timely and I only had to wait about 3-4 days. They did give me a verbal estimate, but I asked for them to mail me one with all of the details. I have still not received it yet in the mail. Yesterday I have followed up with them and have assured me that the estimate is on the way in the mail.

I liked everything about them, their quality of work, price, flexibility and communication. It took them 3 weeks to finish everything.

On 1/25/12, Robert Guice, owner of Better-Built contractors, provided an estimate of the work to be completed. The contract was signed and work began within a few weeks. I was very pleased with the quality of the Hardie Board installation. No so pleased with the professionalism of the sub-contracted stone masons. A near perfect job turned into a less than satisfactory job because the stone workers completed the job in darkness rather than return on a 2nd day and did not remove a down spout that hampered their access to the work area. Consequently, they did a sloppy job of mortaring the the last few stones (large gaps) and caulking around the garage door frame (smeared caulk on the new Hardie Board). One of Better-Built's employees returned the next day to address my areas of concern. While my face to face dealings with the owner were always courteous and professional, the timeliness of our communications was less than satisfactory. Several follow up calls and text messages to Better-Built about job related questions and status reports were not returned in a timely manner. Better and more timely customer feedback is needed. While the Hardie Board and stone work was completed rather quickly, the installation of the gable vent was not completed until early April. Overall, I was pleased with the contract price and the installation of the Hardie Board. Not pleased with the stone work or the timeliness of the communications. I think, however, I would consider using them again.

It went great. We had obtained several estimates. All of the roofing services had an install wait time of 3-4 wks due to backup from previous spring storms. Better-Built estimate was in the middle. They had replaced our T11 siding with hardiplank siding 4 years prior and did an excellent job that went smoothly, so it was a no-brainer to let them do our roof as well. Robert Guice is personable, calm, patient and really good at being clear and detailed on the written estimates and is also a good communicator in person and on the phone. This time was just like the previous time we used his services--50% down at time of contract signing and 50% upon completion. For me, it was leap of faith the 1st time, but this time I trusted him based on my previous stellar experience with him. His crew did the work in a day in spite of the record breaking heat. They did a good job. I'm completely satisfied and would not hesitate to hire him again--as long as his rates remain competitive.

I think the siding is the thing they are known for. They are great, they did a really good job, really pleased.

Everything went fine Penny was very nice and responsive, but a co-worker provided me a referral to a roofer so I canceled the appointment and went with different company.

I made several comments about the overall services of contractors here in Texas that must have made them decide not to bid. That's fine. But failing to respond with a no-bid or returning my phone calls does not do anything to make me want to give them a good endorsement. The salesman, Todd G. kept saying that he was going to be expensive because "he does things right". That was fine. I am more than happy to pay for superior service. Superior service and doing things right means responding to the customer even for a no-bid. I still have interior work to do, they are welcome to try again. I would be pleased to write a positive and glowing report.

I was very happy. They were there on time and they answered my questions. They helped me differentiate between their quote and another quote. They were professional and they did what they said they would. I am considering them for the job.

I signed a contract and gave him a down payment and he ordered the windows. It took a long time but the weather was bad. The windows were $4,950 and the siding was $11,980. It was expensive but it was a lot of work and it looks like they did a good job. I hope they did everything they were supposed to do. I would advise anyone to go over everything in the contract in detail. There was one question about something they didn't do that I thought was in the contract but I didn't argue about it anymore because he said that he had already spent more than he thought he was going to on the job. They were supposed to roll nail magnets through the yard and they haven't done that yet but we have a lot of snow so I hope they are going to do that. The workers were very nice and they worked hard. I would recommend them but with a caveat of going through the contract line by line. I am been pretty pleased but I haven't paid the final payment because they haven't finished the job yet. They were pretty responsive and they were punctual. They need to make sure they read their contracts or change them if they are not going to do certain things.

Showed up on time, communicated promptly/effectively, honest, reliable, very good workmanship. The patio siding, roof trim, and pergola were beautifully done. However, the color and shape of the paver stones used on the patio were off and do not match the stones of the pre-existing, contiguous walkway. The patio has pastel blue and pink, sharply angular stones and the walkway has more neutral, earth tone stones cut in irregular (much more natural) shapes. The workmanship is good but I'm disappointed in the aesthetics of it.

It went very well. We were told ahead of time what the timeline was going to be. We first signed the contract, they put a sign in the yard and we picked out colors. They had us pick from the street so we could hold up the samples and see if they would go well with the roof and the brick. The installers were very professional and showed up when expected and left at a decent time so we could have supper in peace every night. They let us know of some rotten boards and even waited for us to have our pest control person come out and treat an area, then they replaced some boards at no extra charge. They painted the garage and exterior doors when finished, giving it a very nice, professional look. If I were to do it again, I would hire them as they definitely know how to properly do the Hardie siding, which is important if you want it to look its best. It's very motivating to have a pretty house now and a HUGE bonus is that it's warrantied for 15 years on the color and something crazy like 50 years on the siding!! We look at this as an investment that we can enjoy now and will get a better price later on if we ever sell our home.

Mr. Guice came on time to see what I wanted and discussed options for materials to be used. He called a day ahead before the crew came to replace the fascia, before the material for the roof was delivered, and finally before the actual roofing crew arrived so I was never surprised. The crews were polite and as unobtrusive as possible. They cleaned up after themselves even to taking a magnet to the area around the house to collect any stray nails. Mr. Guice came to check the job before final payment was made.

Better Built Contractors was one of three companies referred by the JamesHardie web site. I went through JamesHardie because I wanted a company that was certified by JamesHardie to apply their products. All three bids were fairly close in price so I picked the company that had the most positive comments in Angie's list. Todd(the estimator/designer) was here on time to do the estimate and made many positive suggestions on the specifics of the job. The job began on time and every person in the carpentry crew and paint crew was unfailingly polite and cooperative. We had several weather delays but the crews were here to work every day that the weather permitted. The work-site was cleaned at the end of work every day. Minor problems that came up were always addressed immediately. The finished work looks great and is of very high quality. All of the materials were applied according to JamesHardie requirements (see their web site to learn would should be done..nailing clearances, z-flashing clearances, kick-out flashing, roof clearances, etc.). Better Built normally uses Sherwin Williams paint. I wanted to use Valspar Duramax because of its lifetime warranty and higher Consumer Reports rating although a lifetime in Texas can be kind of short. They agreed to this change. Understand that the final coat of this paint may need to be rolled. Duramax may be difficult to spray and get the quality you should expect. I am not the easiest guy to work for. In another lifetime I was a carpenter so I do know how things should be done. I had some very exacting material requirements and I am kind of rabid about "DO IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME". Better Build was ultimately up to the task. We are very happy with the quality of the work.

A great experience! Robert was always friendly, prompt, & courteous. He didn't bat a eye when asked to do things outside "normal" roofing work. He always returned calls that day. The work took 3 days and the crew did a great job cleaning up! We got 5 bids - Better Built wasn't the lowest but certainly gave us great value & service! We are using them to change the siding next.

We could not be happier with the results. Robert Guice listened to what we wanted and then designed a structure that exceeded our expectations. The crew was exceptional. They showed up every morning and worked straight through until the end of the day. The project was completed ahead of schedule. There was a very small amount of touch up painting left to do, and the crew showed up the day AFTER the final payment was processed on our credit card. To me that says it all - TRUE PROFESSIONALS. We cannot recommend this company highly enough.

They did a good job and they were reasonable. They cleaned up and everything was fine.

I have had serveral projects managed by Better Built and each one was done in a professional, extreemly high quality manner at a fair price. I have been completely satisfied with Better Built Contractors and will use them for all of my contracting needs. They are the best in the business!

They called me back right away when I first contacted them. The person showed up an hour late, but once he got here he was fine. He was friendly, helpful, and professional. It took him over a week to email us the estimate. Our experience with Better Built Contractors was fine.

Their estimate was very competitive and they did an excellent job. I was real pleased with their work, what they noticed and what they fixed. They pretty much did what we wanted and did a good job. They came out and walked through with us, I noticed a ocuple of things that I pointed out and they fixed it right away. They did an excellent job and cleaned up well. Their price was the best, too.

They bid competitively, came with good references and experience with Hardie board siding, and did a quality job in a quick time. They delivered as promised. I would recommend their services.

Overall, I was really happy with the quality of their work. When I had questions or changes along the way, I was able to call up the contractor and work things out. They were pretty responsive.

It didn't; I never saw or heard back from the person I initially spoke with who agreed to look at my home.

The crew arrived approx. 9am each morning so as not to disturb the neighbors too early and left at dark (approx. 6pm in November 2007). They worked steady and never asked for anything except for the entry doors to be opened when they needed to paint them and to inspect work upon completion. They never asked to use the bathroom; I assume they got relief while out to lunch each day as I never saw any evidence otherwise. The siding demo/replacement took 4.5 days. The paint prep took 1/2 day. The painting took 1 short day; it was done several hours before dark. Both the carpentry crew and the paint crew were amazing. I initially had my doubts about good coverage with the paint being sprayed on instead of using roller/brush, especially after seeing the 1st coat with some areas having obviously lighter coverage than others. But, after lunch the 1st coat had dried & the touching up began with much of it done by brush. And, the end result was beautiful. Plus, there was no overspray.
