It is a big house and it was a big project. They started the project fifteen days ago and they just finished last Friday. They brought about five and six people each day. I am extremely thrilled with their work. It looks great. They cleaned up well and were on time for the appointments. I thought the price was very reasonable for the amount of work they did.

I spoke with Penny and she was very nice. Another gentleman came out and he was very fine. At the time, I was negotiating for a better rate and I was able to get someone else to facilitate my needs so I didn't pursue anything any further with them. Looking at their price compared to what I was getting, I was getting more for less with other contractors. Penny did follow up with me but it was too far out, it took them weeks to get back with me and at that time, I had already signed a contract with another contractor.

Very good work on the siding with reasonable pricing. Everything went well except they were supposed to replace all the gutters that were torn down. Unfortunately they never came back for this part of the job, I emailed back a few weeks later and they said they would look into it but that was the last I heard from them. I have since had someone else replace the gutters.

Todd was very punctual and extremely pleasant; however, as soon as he arrived, it began storming and he was unable to give the estimate. Instead, he stayed 45 minutes (we were hoping the weather would clear) and gave us information about Hardieplank and told us about the company. This house is very old and has not been maintained much at all and Todd said that he needed to return with his partner to inspect it in dry weather. He called a couple of times to reschedule, but I missed the calls (my fault) so he just came by (alone). While he was there, I returned from being out of town and he did his inspection. We sat down and discussed what would be needed and he stated that he would email an estimate within a few days. We have never heard back from him and have never received an estimate. He was informed that the homeowners insurance company was threatening to cancel if the work was not done within a very short period of time. I had other contractors out to give bids and all of them were able to leave a written estimate with me and followed up with me within a week or two. I consider Todd's behavior to be extremely unprofessional and disrespectful. I would think that, after having made 2 trips to the house, he would want to either give us a bid or notify me that he was not interested in the job. Todd spent a lot of time telling us how there was a new James Hardie plant in Cleburne now and his company was hand-picked for special treatment by them regarding installation ofl their product. Having heard that, I expected Todd to be the one that would be at the head of the pack. If this is how he treats potential customers on an estimate, I'm afraid of how the project would have gone, had I chosen him. I will not be calling this company again. UPDATE 7/11/13: In response to Better Built's response, I received the estimate the day after I wrote this review. I understand that it takes time, but I should have been notified if the estimate was going to take longer than we discussed. That would have been the professional way to handle it. Otherwise, not hearing from him until I posted a negative review, does not instill much confidence. I appreciate the complexity of the job, but lack of communication is not a good way to begin a professional relationship.

We closed on our home on 3/8/2013 and Better Built was on the site at 7:00AM on 3/9/2013!! Although this was a new home for us, it was built in 1984 and was in disparate need of repair and remodeling. Penny and Robert Guice own and operate their business so when they come out in the beginning to view the property they are the ones that will be with you throughout the entire project. They meet with you and get your thoughts and ideas of what you are wanting to accomplish. They quote/bid the job and set the budget and timeline, Penny and Robert are with you EVERY step of the way. Every question throughout the project is answered by Penny or Robert. They will hold your hand all the way through the process. Every day I was told who would be in and out of our home and the work the crew would be preforming. Everyone that entered our home was professional, clean and respectful of our home. They were curtious and considerate. Remodeling can be a challange since the home owner usually has a "vision" of what they are wanting, Penny and Robert were wonderful at expanding that vision and making it become a reality. I can not say enough wonderful things about Better Built. The project was complete on 4/11/2013! This is remarkable for the amount of work that was done to the house. Whenever an obsticle would occur (and with any construction project obsticles will occur) they would already have a plan of action to resolve the issue before contacting us with the problem. Another plus about hiring Better Built is Penny and Robert really want to help you throughout the process. Although they are not decorators or designers they will help you pick out paint colors or tile or carpet or ANYTHING you want or need help with, they will take time out of their day to help you make decisions. Penny and Robert are a wonderful husband and wife team that truly want to make your remodel process as easy and fun as possible. They always have the customers best intrest in mind. Robert and Penny with Better Built really love what they do and it shows, they are dedicated and hard working and strive for perfection. I truly appreciate them and they made our house into a home that we love and are proud of.

We were disappointed in them because the first time they didn't show up or call. After that when they did call, we told them that our deductible on our homeowner's insurance was $1,900. The whole house siding needed to be replaced and instead of giving us a bid for the whole house siding, they just gave us a bid of $1,900. They should have given a bid for the whole house. We had never heard of replacing a piece or two of siding because the siding had been on there for at least 20 years. It seemed like they didn't want the job.

Project not started yet

I contacted Better Built on 1/22/13 to obtain an estimate for remodeling two bathrooms and three bedrooms after sustaining some water damage. We scheduled an appt for 1/25/13 for them to come out and capture the information needed to provide an estimate. The representative showed up timely and we discussed the project. I followed up on 2/4/13 since I hadn't heard back from them. Penny responded that day that she would follow up with their representative and get back to me. She emailed me on 2/6/13 that the representative would be discussing my project that day and would get back to me. I responded that I would not require their services as I preferred a contractor that was more responsive and customer focused.

It was a long process ( the whole house needed to be done) but well worth it. I wish hadn't waited last minute on some decisions but Robert and Penny were both very helpful in guiding me! The workers were always professional and friendly. And Robert and Penny were with us every step of the way. I will definitely be using them when we start phase 2 (the back yard!!!)

Todd and his team at Better Built had replaced the siding on our home this past summer. We had a front door that was in need of replacement but couldn't get it purchased in time to get it all done at one time. The door is 42 inches wide and only 80 inches tall, so it had to be special ordered. The home was built in 1976, so there has been some settling which added to the challenge of installing this new door. When I contacted Todd about installing the door, he had just the right guy for the job. He was thorough and took his time to make sure the door worked correctly and the door will be there for the next 33 years! The front door is now installed, all the mechanisms work smoothly and the overall appearance of our home has changed dramatically for the better. Many neighbors have complimented us on the new door, and comment that they hardly recognize the place since the siding was replaced as well as the front door.

We purchased a home that needed a lot of work. Siding wasn't something we planned to replace...until storms started blowing off the old vinyl siding, that is. We contacted Better Built and Todd came out to bid the job. We talked about what it would take to complete it, where the challenges were (the roof has a 12:12 pitch and 5 dormers). We accepted his bid and his crew went to work. They were professional and courteous. Once the siding was off, we discovered many areas that lacked adequate insulation. We purchased the insulation, and they were happy to install it for us, prior to laying up the new siding. There were also areas that needed to be reinforced or have OSB installed to provide an adequate backing for the new siding. They took care of all of it. We had wiring run through the soffits, new lights installed and outlets placed on the corners. Todd had individuals that he had worked with before, come out and take care of all of that additional installation too. It was a burden that we were happy not to have to deal with. The painters came in, and quickly added the paint colors of our choosing and we were done. The house looks great! Many of our neighbors have complimented us on the way the home now looks. We have had many contractors work on the various projects on this home. So far, there is only one other company that we would recommend. Todd and the crew at Better Built made the grade and have our gratitude.

We purchased a home that has a barn in the backyard. It is a decent sized building with enough room for an office, bathroom and a couple of horse stalls. We had some major remodeling and plumbing issues, so much of the siding was torn off of the west wall. Additionally, the building had termites. Once the plumbing had been fixed, and termites eradicated, we contacted Better Built to come out and survey the job and let us know what it might cost to replace the existing vinyl siding with Hardie Board and repair/replace the west wall. Todd came out and bid the job. We discussed what the job would entail, and how long it might take. Once we accepted the bid, his crew got to work. They were competent and courteous. During the removal of the old siding we discovered some windows in the horse stalls that had been covered. We decided to keep them uncovered. His crew went to work building new swinging doors for the windows and framing them out nicely. We are very happy with the results and our neighbors are too! We have received many compliments and would recommend Better Built for anyone planning to do a siding job.

We are doing a 1600 square foot addition and remodeling progect. I called Better-Built Contractors, Inc on12/04/2012 @ approx 1pm and spoke to Stephanie. I explained to her that I wanted to get a bid from them on our project and that we already had architect plans completed. She took all of my information including asking where I had heard about the company, to which I answered "Angie's List". I specifically asked if the company performed work in my area and was told they did. I have never heard back from them to schedule an appointment. I called them because they were on the "Honor Roll" advertisers list in the Angie's List magazine for my area.

Above our expectations, we were looking for a contractors initially who meet our needs and desires in a finished project. I will tell readers we interviewed five contractors and Better-Built Contractors Inc. was the only company totally interested in our business. Make recommendations which we greatly appreciated. Took additional time to explain to the lady of the house in all areas she was unfamiliar with in the process. Made all the changes she requested, explained when it was physically possible and if there was an additional costs involved and why. Todd Giese provided everything in writing and corrected the project so all parties were on the same page through the entire project. The project was a value we were looking for in this remodeling project within our budget with first class quality project. Better-Built Contractors, Inc. followed up the project with a questionnaire to understand if their clients are totally satisfied or had problems with the project or subcontractors. Better-Built Contractors, Inc. is a professional organization building on their desire to have total customer satisfaction.

Work performed in a timely fashion with satisfactory results.

Their estimate was on the higher side compared to another contractor. They showed up on time. They did a pretty good job of looking at things and giving feedback. The scope of work was on par with other contractors. But I just got better price from a different contractor.

Better-Built is one of James Hardie's preferred installers. I met with Todd Guice to obtain an estimate. He arrived promptly at the appointment time. We discussed the work to be done, & then walked around the house to discuss specifics. Todd is very personable & laid back. He has a lot of experience in remodeling, and made a number of welcome suggestions for other integral upgrades we might want to do. He was extremely thorough in talking about Hardie Siding and the installation process, including mentioning things that should be covered when I interviewed other installers. Todd took measurements and said that he'd email me an price and reference list within a few days, which he did. The price quote was right where we expected it to be - very fair. I contacted 6 of his Hardie ColorPlus references, and all were very happy with the work that was done by Todd & Better-Built. Overall, I was very impressed. Ultimately, I went with another installer, but only because I was ready to have the work done, and Better-Built didn't have a crew available until Jan. 2013. I will be doing a bathroom expansion/remodel in the future, and Better-Built will definitely be on my short list when I interview remodelers.

My experience with Todd and his crew was very good. As with any construction project, there will be things that have to be modified or redone. So you have to exercise patience at times whoever you choose to do your work, but any issues that I had were dealt with in a very professional manner and handled promptly. My house is absolutely beautiful now. I'm extremely picky and have to say that his crew does outstanding work. They worked quietly (as quiet as a construction project can be that is). There was no yelling or loud music. Everyone who worked on the project behaved very professionally and courteously. And they cleaned up after themselves very well when the work was done. Thanks, Todd!

As usual BBC came through with wonderful results. I got a new roof in record time, with no problems at all. Every last detail was perfect. Todd visited the site every day and made sure everything was to my satisfaction. Other companies could learn a lesson from the level of service provided by these guys. Thank you so much!

They repaired my roof, and there was no charge for the repair, it was an insurance claim for hail damage.

It's not always easy to find a dependable contractor, we feel that we have found that and more in Better Built Contractors!! We have had many projects done around and inside our home over the years. Better Built Contractors has done most if not all of them and we can't say enough about the company. Our latest project was new windows. The windows, by far are one of our favorites. Not only did the company offer a timely project, but the installers were reliable, trustworthy and clean. They showed when they said they would and always cleaned up before leaving. We have 41 windows, so, the project took several days to complete. I was comfortable leaving a key for the workers and my kids home. Overall, we are thrilled with our new windows aesthetically and although it's only been a few weeks, the savings in energy has been evident almost immediately. We saved over $300 on this months electric bill in comparison to last years. So, if you're looking to replace windows or do any other remodel project in your home, start and end with Better Built Contractors! They are the BEST and you will not be sorry.

Better Built performed numerous improvements on our home (we discovered a natural spring under our home causing too many problems to list). BB came in and worked very hard to source experts to identify the root cause and appropriate solutions for this unique problem. Most important, BB was one stop shopping/ expertise. They made the calls, they handled the bills, they did it all...I can't emphasize strong enough what a mess we had, BB was absolutely GREAT! Certainly professional one stop shopping I stronly recommend.

It was a long project, but well worth it. Better Built had helpful suggestions/insight throughout the project that made the final product exceptional. The craftsmen were courteous and provided excellent workmanship. The project did take a little longer than anticipated, but we were confident that the end product would be worth the wait and we were not disappointed.

They seemed really knowledgeable, but I had an appointment, and they were more interested in talking to my neighbor who had come out to check his mail or something. That really put me off. Their quote to redo all the siding on my house in hardie was 'around $10,000' and seemed high at the time, and was based on 2 other quotes I got. It just wasn't a good match.

From the beginning there was a problem with the contractor setting a date and doing what I requested. I would not give any contractor permission to contact my insurance regarding the roof until I decided on a company. My insurance company representative was excellent and tried to assist me along the way. I had to insist the contractor call him to ensure our figures were correct. Then he did not appear with the foreman for the job, nor tell me what to expect, like not being able to get into my garage and the mess they made in my yard. Secondly I had to actually supervise and make sure they did all that was necessary for putting the James Hardy siding on, like insulation behind the paper. When this was pointed out to the foreman, his response was "I told him several times to do that". I am not sure where they got their workers (Spanish speaking only labor line?). Then they used left over materials and charged me the full price for new materials. I found this out from the foreman and the various colors of James Hardy on the house. The next problem was my screen door, which had to be removed and replaced. Well, they just about destroyed it. Their response to the problems was that anything taken off will not be replaced properly, so deal with it. They destroyed the vent over the garage, then replaced the dented material. I told them there was no way I wanted to come home and see that. So, the back was redesigned. I really wanted the vent. Now, I do have a ventilated roof, so ventilation is not so much of a problem. Because they did the siding first, I was able to see the condition of my roof. my home was built in 1981 or so and has had two roofs. The roof decking needed to be up-dated and replaced. The contractor was almost not willing to replace it until I got the insurance to cover the cost (which still should not have been an issue). Once the siding and roof we had the painting, chimney cap, and gutters. This took over 3 week to get done. I found out it was because the contractor had not contacted the sub-contractor or they had to get a new one right away (poor planning). I do not like the lines which are showing on the James Hardy siding. Finally, they removed my pargola (patio cover), threw away the wood (which was about 3 years old) then told me they were too busy to replace it. The contractor suggested I contact Home Depot as a vendor. I recently received the estimate from Home Depot, emailed the company and was told I owed them money! I responded that I have a signed contract that everything is paid in full! I did not appreciate the owners response and will be taking them to court. So now I am without and their response was to charge me for the removal! The contractor told me I my problem was knowing too much about how the work should be done! He did not like the fact that I did utilize friends, Internet and others to advice me on how things should be done. Initially the price was competitive but the work is not. They job is truly not worth the money. The contractor's response was it looks better than before. He was also constantly stating he was going to more affluent neighborhoods. So, this company is surely not for the working person, female, minority, assertive, or educated person. I would only recommend them to someone who is able to stay on top of the work needed and/or if it is a simple job.
