Parrot Head Pool Service

Called for a price quote for bearing replacement on our Pentair Whisperflo pool pump motor. The gentleman told me that if the bearings were loud I'd need to replace the entire pump with a new one. This is NOT true. I was going to replace the bearings myself but like everyone these days, my time is limited. Lying to customers by telling them they need to purchase a new pump (usually >$500) when only the bearings need to be replaced (for <$25 in parts) is an unscupulous business practice and I will be sure to never do business with this company for any reason in the future.

I had my pool inspected by Parrot when I was under contract to buy my home. They offered me weekly pool cleaning service and at the time, I thought it was expensive. Since I didn't know much about pools, I went ahead and signed up for their services. After three weeks of cleaning, I am completely satisfied. My pool guy is pretty awesome and he does a great job explaining everything to me. He was able to catch problems and help me to resolve it quickly. The communication has been very good.

The service did not go well. When we complained we were told the cleaner was related to the owner and he stated we were not truthful. The cleaner did not bring equipment to clean the pool. Skimmed the top and in some instances did not show.

It went well. We feel that the price was good & fair & thats what we were looking for, so thats why we rated excellent. We weren't looking for "the cheapest possible service around." We are trying to work something out with our tenants first so we have not signed the service contract (its only a month to month contract, so not bad at all).

We started working with them on fixing the salt system on our pool a year ago. I searched them up on Angie's List and saw their excellent ratings. Both Jay, the Head Technician, and Tommy, the owner, are knowledgeable and honest and have provided great service. Jay knows all the ins and outs of the pool systems and I have called him on multiple occasions with trouble shooting questions. Jay has always recommended the most cost effective way for us to handle repairs. Tommy came out here one time in the evening to check the system and figure out what was wrong. I have been very happy with them. I was apprehensive about hiring them for cleaning the pool because it would be one of the other company employees that would be doing the cleaning. I decided to give them a go and after a couple of weeks of sorting out the tweaks, I have been very happy with the service. I receive a report on email every week after the cleaning with all the chemical measurements of the pool. I highly recommend them.

My pool heater had stopped working. Prior to Parrot Head coming out, I had another service come out that told me that I needed a new blower that was going to cost me about $500 for parts and another $300 for labor. He went on to tell me that my heater was close to 15 years old, was at the end of it's life, there was a good chance the whole thing would go out soon and I should consider not paying that, but get a new heater for $3,000. I called Parrot Head to get a second opinion and I'm glad I did. They told me it was a switch that had gone bad. The repair man didn't have the part on his truck so he went to two different stores to get the part so I wouldn't get charged another service fee for having to come back at a later time. Between parts and labor, the total bill came to under $200. I would recommend them and plan to use them any future pool repair needs I have.

How did it go? Excellent. This was a big job, and we had no prior experience with this type of work. From the beginning we received great guidance on what was going to be done and what our choices were as we went along. It was nice to see at Parrot's office such a large variety of samples/prices so we could make style and color choices that fit our desires and budget. We were not at all impressed with other companies that bid on this job because their choices were limited or they appeared to want to come in and do a "quick fix" that we felt was not going to be quality work. All along the way we learned a lot from Parrot about the pro's and con's associated with the choices we needed to make, and we had opportunities to see finished work done for other homeowners. The crews that came out to do each phase of the work were very skilled, cooperative and did really nice work. Our property was well protected while the work was underway since we had a relatively new house paint and didn't want it to be trashed by sloppy workers. No problem there with Parrot's team. It is good that Parrot does not employ just anybody who claims to know how to do pool renovation and maintenance. All along the way we asked a lot of questions, got a lot of good answers and got great advice on taking care of the pool once renovation was finished. Additionally, we needed to tweak a few things as the work was being done. The work teams were very cooperative and helpful with those. The supervisors of those teams were always on top of work while it was being done. The result is that the pool, deck, patio and backyard now look great. We think the pricing was reasonable and had no issues with getting each phase of the job scheduled. The pool startup and post-job service guys are well trained and good to work with. Would we use Parrot again? Absolutely. We like to maintain our pool ourselves, but if we need anything in the future we'll certainly go see the Parrot team first for advice or services that they can help with...which are pretty comprehensive.

I called Parrot Head because Tommy had fixed my pool filters when my husband was unable to do it and he went out of his way to do a good job. When I wanted to remodel the pool, I got an estimate from Tommy and one from another company. The estimates were close and I chose Tommy. He promised he would supervised the whole job. He did not. I was surprised by the carelessness and rudeness of he workmen who demo'd the pool and did the tiling for the first time (see later) , and by the mess they made and did not clean up. When the tile and coping were being installed, the workmen came and started working -- no sign of Tommy. My husband went out several times to chastise the workmen for not wearing safety glasses. They ended up lounging around my yard and not working for quite some time because they had no safety glasses. We contacted Tommy and he sent someone out to supervise and get the saftey glasses for the workmen, but they didn't use them. When they started the tiling, they made even more of a mess and it looked terrible. They even had a young kid doing some of the tile work. When the employee came out and saw what they did he sent a picture to Tommy and apparently Tommy told them to finish the work because the subcontracted crew for resurfacing was coming the next day and he did not want to reschedule. He told us that after the resurfacing was done and the surface cured sufficiently they would tear out the coping and some the bad part of the tile laid by the kid and re do it. When I expressed concern that the demo would harm the new finish, he said don't worry we will have a vaccuum to suck up all the debris while they are tearing it up. Of course that didn't happen. Instead, the demo crew tore things up throwing debris in the pool and washing their tools in the pool and getting cement on everything making a royal mess again, but this time after the pool had been filled and water balanced and finish brushed daily. After that was done I called the subcontractor who put on the finish (and did a very good job) and asked if they could do anything to clean the new finish. They called Tommy and he was upset with me for calling his contractor. He said he would make it right but I insisted that the subcontractor do the light acid wash as I no longer trusted Tommy. In the end the pool looks fine, Tommy paid something for the extra pool water drain and refill and gave me 6 months of free service on the pool. Because of his failure to stop the work before the refinishing, I had no use of the pool from August (when the work first began) through the next Spring's swimming season (after the free maintenance service ended).

I called to find out if this particular pool cleaning service cleaned above ground Intex pools, and the receptionist just said no, they don't, that's not what they do, they don't know enough about it. I asked her if she could possibly recommend someone that might clean Intex pools, and she said the owner and the service coordinator were on the phone. She never said, let me find out, or let me check with them, do you mind holding a minute?, nothing..curt personality, and less than helpful. It just struck as odd, that when you're the first person a potential customer speaks with, even if they don't provide services, you'd be more courteous!

Positives: -The owner of Parrot did the pool inspection. -Very easy to talk to and spent a lot of time answering my questions about pools. -He was able to discover a few minor problems. -Gave me a referral for tile repair which Parrot no longer does. -Suggested technology equipment upgrades that I could install for the pool. Negatives: -Even though he informed me that it was only a visual inspection, I wish the pool inspection would have been more detailed. -Try to sell me on his pool cleaning service which cost at the high end. -Price for pool inspection is average, I would have giving a higher score for price if it was slightly less. The overall experience was positive, but if I had to do it all over again, I would pay more for a pool leak detection specialist.

I called Parrot Head because my I had air in my pool lines going into the pool. The women I spoke to on the phone was very courteous and told me they would call back and let me know when they could come out. They called back quicly and we set up a time. The service technician arrived on time and was very friendly. He found the issue which was the basket in the pump was broken and therefore debris was being sucked into the pump and clogging it. He got it all cleaned out and it has now been a week and the pool is running great and air free. The technician even took the time while he was there to answer other questions I had about the pool even though they were not related to the issue. Since we are new to having a pool, I appreciate the time he took to answer my questions. I will use Parrot Head Pool Service again for any and all pool repairs or services I need in the future!

I have had the displeasure of having Parrot Head Pools as my pool cleaning and repair provider for less than one year. I had issues with the service within the first couple of months of the service and met with a manager and owner. The owner stated the condition of my pool was unacceptable and in order to keep me as a customer they would offer me a free months of service to give them time to correct the problem. The manager told me that he stops by service locations from time to time to ensure their quality of service. He apologized that I was a new client and he hadn?t been out to see my pool yet or he would have had the problem corrected. These were all empty words. Last week I noticed a large amount of dirt in my pool, and you could not see the bottom of my spa through all the dirt that was in it. I called their office to let them know the pool tech was still not cleaning the pool, and that I wanted to switch pool tech. The woman I spoke with had a poor attitude and told me the condition of the pool was my fault because the filter needed to be cleaned. So, I had them clean the filter, but I still wanted a new pool tech in the future. The filter tech contacted me and told me that all of my filter grids were broken and the manifold was broken. The cost of the repair would be around $500. I agreed to have the repairs done on his advice, even though the filter is less than 3 years old. This week the new pool tech came out and did nothing. My spa is still blanketed in dirt. In my pool you can see streaks created by the vacuum?s wheels but none of the dirt was sucked up. Furthermore, the pool tech left my backwash valve open so the water was draining into the street. Had we not noticed the water level this morning the water would have completely drained out of the pool causing untold damage to the filter, motor, and the pool itself. The pictures below were taken less than 24 hours after they claimed to have cleaned my pool. I contacted Parrot Head again wanted to speak to the owner. The same woman who gave me attitude the week before was dismissive of my dissatisfaction in the quality of service I had received. She told me the owner was too busy to speak with me. I spoke to the manager who offered nothing but excuses for why the pool was still dirty and why the pool tech did not close the backwash valve.

Contacted Parrot Head Pool Service about giving a bid for some pool repairs. They quickly responded, and even though they don't service our area of Houston, they suggested a colleague in the area. Very nice and helpful.

Their response time was very quick and professional but they do not offer free estimates and wanted to charge $99 to come out and look at the work I needed done. They said they would apply that to the bill but I want to know how much a project is going to cost before I start.

The replied within an hour and followed up with a phone call. Very thorough follow up considering the answer was a no they do not work within my particular area. I tried to use them. It would be more than two months and I still don't have a quote from them. It's pretty sad. They sent somebody out. The gentleman who came out said that I need to have my deck and tile guy out. The deck and tile guy came out and that was the last. I have called twice after that. I have written an email and sent a text message. There was still no response. At this point, I'm giving up with them. Their professionalism is pathetic. If they promise something, they should do as they say and follow through on their promises.

Parrot Head came in on a Monday and by Thursday the pool was refilled and the job was done. Each day they had a plan to keep the job moving from removing old tile, repairing any area in the pool, prepping it for pebble tech surface, acid washing and finishing up the job. The foreman was in constant contact with me, along with the owner of the company. They were professional, courteous and time efficient. The results are stunning, the 30 year old pool looks new and compliments my back yard and landscape. I couldn't be any happier!!! Great job, great results, reasonable price, excellent staff and workers. MBP UPDATE 5/19/15: Instead of using traditional grout for the beautiful custom tile I selected, they used Portland concrete. Within a few months, the concrete started leaching lime, which looks absolutely terrible. My recommendation would be to anyone using this company or having tile work done on your pool, make sure you are aware of the type of bonding agents they use for the tile. Concrete WILL cause leaching of lime, and given the expense of the job, I should have just left it looking old and outdated. I feel like I got taken, especially after the reaction the most recent pool guy I hired gave when I told him what I spent. When I addressed the issue with them, they never took responsibility or attempted to make it right. If I could do it all over again, I would never have used this company.

Ethan is reliable and takes his job seriously, I love his work and enjoy having him care for our pool.

They are knowledgable about the system and knew the equipment which is pretty sophisticated. It took them several visits to figure out all the problems and fix the control panel. They did a great job.

The guy was very and nice and explained everything to us. We are going to work out an agreement for future work to be done.

I have been using Parrot Head Pool Service for just over a year. Early on I meet with Tommy and we hit it off right away. He was very knowledgeable and professional. Their consistency is great. We have had Joey as our weekly service person from the beginning. He goes the extra mile to take care of our pool and its systems. He makes sure I am in the loop on the status of our pool. Another other great feature of Parrot Head is we receive an email immediately after servicing telling us if it is safe to swim, if it is not and when it will be, i.e. 4 hours.. Additionally the report has current status of the chemistry, water level, filter pressure. We also had a couple of small repairs done. Like the weekly service it was top notch!

Outstanding. Operator came and trouble shot my issues and gave a price for labor and parts. My DE filter was very overpressured from debris clogging the plates. On opening the uni,t he found a manifold with a hairline crack that explained why I was finding DE in the pool. Doing this myself, I would have never made the observation. He cleaned the plates, replaced the manifold with a new part and recharged the filter. He conducted the work qickly, cleaned up and left damaged replaced parts for me, and gave advice on some other issues of concern. In additon, he left me a new pressure gauge for the DE filter without me knowing which was a nice surprise. He replaced damaged fittings and pipe on the Polaris booster pump that had been leaking and repositioned a stop valve that I had incorrectly installed at the wrong side of the pump years ago. Now works better to stop flow if needed. He checked the spa heater and found some mice were busy inside and had chewed and clogged some of the jets and starter wires. He made a rapid repair and it now starts fine. Along with all of that, he gave advice for removing the spent DE that has escaped the previously damamged filter into the pool. A very nice experience and I will use Parrot again.

It went well. We have had other companies out to fix various things but this company came in and repaired things others had done. Pool is working perfectly!
