I never had to worry about my pool while working with them. If I had any issues they would let me know and get authorization before making any repairs. They downsized the company and would no longer service my area so I had to find a different provider.

We discovered a leak in our pool about a week ago. It looks like it may be one of the skimmers that is an issue. When I explained to Brittany that we thought it may be an under ground issue in the actual plumbing, she was very honest with me. She immediately said that if it is underground, that her company would not be able to assist in the repairs and she referred me to a company that they have used in the past. I called the other company, "Hydro Tech," and was treated with great respect and was able to easily make an appointment.

We need our spa heater to be repaired. We saw on Angie's List that Parrot Head did spa repairs and had a good rating and that the estimate for repairs was free for AL members. I called and told her I was an AL member and said that I would a like a free estimate on a repair job. She said that the estimate would be $95. I said that the AL website said estimates were free and she said "well not for that". Not impressed.

WARNING: DO NOT USE PARROT HEAD POOL SERVICE & REPAIR !!!!! I have had my pool for 10 yrs and have had to replace my motor once before by a professional. I joined Angies List because I thought the site would provide reputable service providers. I chose PARROT HEAD POOL SERVICE & REPAIR because of the reviews. I thought I would be receiving great service, was I WRONG. I called for service on the weekend and received a call from a rep on Monday scheduling for Wednesday. When the technician Mark Cicel(sp) arrived he introduced himself and emphasized that "He is there to take care of his AngiesList customer". Which at the time was very assuring. He turned on the pump, no power, but was able to turn the impeller. so he thought it could be a bad capicitor. After replacing the capacitor we still did not have any service so he recommends replacing the motor. He priced the motor at 420.00'ish which is fair since I 've had to replace the motor before. Mark assured me that he will try to be back in a day or two, but did not show up until 3 days later. HERE'S WHERE IT ALL WENT SOUR. Mark is scheduled for 8AM, but didn't show up until 9:45AM. No problem. Once arrived Mark gives me this song and dance about how the office ordered the wrong part and the part he has in his truck is going to cost 586.00 to replace, he would not be able to match the original price, and if I purchase the motor myself they are willing to replace it w/o any warranty with a labor charge. With no anger in my voice I told him absolutely not and I will purchase my own motor and replace it myself. When I went back to get the part number off of my motor, I noticed my capacitor was not replaced and missing. I contacted Mark numerous times to return the 5-10.00 part and the answer I received was " Yes sir I will be there later today" but never showed up. I contacted the company and was assured by the service manager that Mark will be by later today to drop off the part. A week and a half later still no capacitor, but with the assistance of the RELIABLE internet I was able to replace the motor myself. The only reason I requested for the return of the capacitor was so that I can purchase a replacement in case the new motor did not provide one. I don't know if I will continue my membership with AngiesList after my initial experience with one of their top awarded company.
Description of Work: My inground pool pump stopped working so I called to have it checked.

Parrot Head Pool Service does not install parts or equipment provided by customers. We do however try to fix the issue at a minimal cost to the customer. This is why we elected to try and replace the capacitor initially which is a lot less expensive than the entire motor. This has been a long time practice and we have had several good reviews based on that. Parrot Head Pool Service has always held customer service as a priority with all of our customers.

Update. 8-17-13 Issue is resolved and Aqualink js functioning properly 8-15-13 : Owner called and to discuss and was genuinely concerned that the issue had reached its current state. He is sending someone out today to attempt to resolve the problems. I will continue to update as progreess is made. We scheduled our initial service in April 2013. Installation went smoothly; however, after a couple of weeks we noticed that the chlorine generator was not generating any chlorine for the pool and was showing errors. We called and they sent the service rep that installed the system out to troubleshoot the issue. After looking at the problem, he determined that he was unable to resolve it and that the manufacturer (Jandy) of the chlorinator would need to come out and replace. He noted that the someone would be in touch with me to schedule a time. After a month of waiting, I called and was told that the manufacturer was not being helpful to them but they would get back to me as soon as possible once the manufacturer (Jandy) sent them the parts that were needed. They called a couple of weeks later and scheduled a time for the same service rep to come and install the new parts. The new parts were unsuccessful and we were *once again* told that someone from the manufacturer would be in contact with us soon to come and either fix the issues or replace the unit. Today, we were once again told that Parrot Head Pool was not getting the response that they want from the manufacturer of the chlorine generator, but that they would keep trying and get back to us as soon as possible.... ...so we're in the same position now that we were when we called Parrot Head to replace our broken chlorinator 4 months ago. If you decide to contract Parrot Head Pools for business, I would recommend insisting that payment be made only after verification and sign-off on a working solution. PS. We apparently aren't the only customers that are having the same issue with Jandy chlorine generators so saltwater pool owners may want to shop elsewhere. Jandy seems to disappear once their products are purchased even when they are DOA.
Description of Work: Replace entire salt water chlorinator subsystem including sensors, cells, system boards and electronics. Replace existing electronics for the pool including automated digital timers and remote access.

I understand and sympathize with the customer, however when performing warranty work for any manufacturer we are held to the companies instructions on how to fix the problem. I do want to note that Jandy does make good pool products and equipment, the problem we were incurring seemed to be related to a specific batch of parts.

The original issue we had was with air being sucked into the pump and blowing bubbles into the pool. They scheduled service about a week after my initial contact and they fixed the original issue fine. However, the technician said one of our automated valves was not working. That was odd, since we hadn't noticed an issue with it before. I checked it out later and confirmed it wasn't working, so I called back to ask for a quote to repair it. Estimate was $200 for the part and $100 for labor. I was able to find the part on Amazon for $120 and reading some DIY suggestions thought I'd tackle it myself. When the part arrived, I noticed there was a toggle switch on the bottom. When I checked our current valve, the switch was off and simply needed to be turned on. What I couldn't understand is why the tech, when noticing the valve wasn't working, simply didn't try to turn it on? I called Parrot Head to discuss my concerns and they said their tech would return my call. I never heard back from the tech. Update: Owner called to explain the situation. He said the tech turned off the switch on the valve because he noticed it was having problems and he didn't want to valve to not turn, empty the spa, and perhaps burn out the pump. There was apparently several instances of communication breakdown since this was the first time I had heard this despite several earlier calls seeking an explanation. Owner was very nice and sincere and based on this conversation I'd be willing to give them another shot in the future. I have therefore revised my ratings.

Because of family problems, I had to reschedule this appointment three times. Each time they were very patient and polite in rescheduling. On the day of the work, the rep showed up on time, did the work quickly, tested the system and provided the box and instructions for the new switch. The labor charge was exactly as quoted - $95. Very happy with them.

I called Monday or Tuesday because we weren't getting any circulation through our filter pump and nothing I tried worked, regardless of the research and tool we bought. (It had been a while, so our pool was a swamp by this point.) Due to the busy season, understandably, it was Thursday before they could come out. Mike was very personable and knowledgeable, and found that the impeller had broken. Everything was running fine when he left, but, due to recent storms, the pool needed to be drained a bit. I did so, and when I returned the valve to filter and turned the pump back on...no pressure. I called them again Friday morning, and the lady that answered said she'd let Mike know, and see if he could make it back that day, but that it would probably be Monday, which, again, is perfectly understandable. Mike called not too much later, and said that if something opened up, he'd come by, otherwise it would be Saturday morning. (Pleasant surprise) As promised, he came Saturday, and I remembered that one of the two companies we used last year (both bad) had mentioned we were sucking air, but couldn't find the leak. (If I remember correctly, the other place couldn't either.) Mike tried much harder than they did, didn't give up when it began to flummox him, and ran through three possibilities with me: warped housing, needing to re-plumb the above ground pipes leading to the pump, or pressurizing the pipes to pinpoint the leak. After some hemming and hawing due to his frustration at not being able to tell better where it was (the need to complete a job well done at it's finest), he said he'd talk to his boss about pressurizing, finding the leak that way, and actually eating the $350 cost if it turned up being above ground. Then he had another idea, checked it out, and found the leak in one of the valves. We were both stoked, and I was impressed at his persistence. The leak was fixed, and the pool has been running better than it ever has in the year and three months we've had this house. He also turned me on to a great algaecide (left me some on Thursday to add after I drained), and with its help, shocking a couple of times, and loads of backwashing, the pool is now nearly clear and swimmable. So far, especially in comparison to the other two companies, we're extremely happy with these guys. Partially because we weren't pressured to use their maintenance service, and he showed me everything, so that I could understand better, and possibly take care of it myself next time. (The cost related above is not the total - we're waiting for numbers for Saturday's work, as Mike did not have the price on the new pump lid.)
Description of Work: Discovered problems, replaced broken impeller and several o-rings, installed a new, clear (I can see the circulation now!) pump lid, and gave yours truly some instruction that other companies didn't.

I called Parrot Head the week before Memorial day (about May 23 or 24) because my pool pump was making horrible noises. They were booked but said they would come out on Wednesday of the next week. It was a holiday weekend so I understood that. The repairman came out the following week but didn't have the pump he needed. He said he would have to come back after he ordered the part. A few days later someone who said he was the first repairman's supervisor came out. He said it wasn't my pump that was broken, it was the impeller. He didn't have the impeller but said he would order it and return. I asked him why the other technician told me it was my pump. He said he had "had a conversation about that" leading me to believe the first guy didn't know what he was doing. About a week later he called me at work and said the impeller was installed. I got home that night and turned the pump on and the pump was still making a horrible noise. Once again I called - this is now mid-June. The original technician (the one who had been "talked to") came out again and said my pool pump was bad. I asked him why the impeller had been replaced then and he told me the impeller really was bad too - that wasn't a mistake (right). A few days later they called and said they had installed a new pump. I got home that night and turned it on and water gushed out of the bottom of the pump. I called once again. They told me there wasn't enough water in the pool for the technician to test the pump. Funny, I was able to run the pump and the water immediately gushed out. I would think a professional would be able to determine that as well as I. Anyway, one more service call and a month after my first request for service, and after the pool water sat for a month without filtering properly, the pump (and I assume the impeller) are working. I withheld this review for a while because I wanted to be sure to give a legitimate review and not write it when I was angry for being jerked around for a month. I will say the service people were always courteous, especially the first technician who had been "talked to", however, I am so traumatized by it all I cannot in good conscience recommend this company or use them again.

Great!! They were very responsive, coming out in the busiest part of the season within 24 hours of contacting them. Initially, a pump had to be ordered and it arrived when they said it would the technician was at the house to install it when he said he would be - within a day of the part arriving. When he arrived and started work, he found another problem and warned us, up front, that the part he needed to remove was so fragile that it might break when it was removed. We discussed the options with him and decided, rather than letting the pool lie dormant for a possible 48 hours in the heat of the summer, to put it all back together with the old pump and replace the whole system. Those parts had to be ordered also (our pool is about 30 years old). He arrived a day early, installed everything and had us up and running lickety split. In addition, he gave me advice and a product to help with a stubborn stain in our pool, without charge. I would recommend this company very highly and will not use anyone else for any other problems that crop up.

There were a couple of issues with the pool: Air being discharged into the pool and there was a leak in the pump assembly. The tech arrived on time and was very helpful and enthusiastic. He quickly determined that a seal in the pump had failed and replaced it and that the major leak was in the pump lid which he replaced with a new lid and seal. He showed me how he determined that was the problem. There was still some bubbles entering the pool so he put extra sealant on the inlet pipes and eventually eliminated those, again showing how he determined that was the case. Two small leaks in other areas we fixed with some replacement piping. He did not have all parts available, so came back a couple of times until the work was complete, but did not over charge me on the hours. Overall, very happy with the work.

Unfortunately I am sad to say I was unhappy with the service provided by Parrot Head. They were very nice, but I hired them to care for my new pool and for the last two months it started turning green by the middle of the week each week. Over graduation week, they finally said it was because the filter needed cleaning, and they would send someone out in a few days. I had lots of family in and planned to enjoy the pool, instead they spent the week trying to keep it from going completely green. Then they told me they would not be servicing my area any longer and quit, right after I paid them for the filter clean. The two referrals they gave me were not taking new business in my area. I now have a quote from another pool company and they are going to charge me an additional fee to get the pool back in shape because it has not been maintained properly. Overall Parrot Head has cost a lot and did not do the job I hired them to do.

The Parrot Head representative, Jay, arrived as scheduled and checked to be sure the storm drain line where he was going to pump out the water and cleaning chemicals emptied directly to storm sewer. He and then drained and acid washed the pool walls and pool bottom, and then chlorine washed pool as well. As the pool was emptying, he took the filter elements out of the pool filter, and chlorinated and cleaned them and replaced them. he then refilled the pool, and the next day Parrot Head came back and re-established the pool water stabilization. They performed the work for the quoted price and did a very good job.

Response from Parrot Head Pool Service
We have been servicing her pool for over a year. When informed that her pool was overstabilized (high cya) we wanted to make arrangements to partially drain her pool and refill with fresh water. This is a common practice and we do not charge our maintenance customers for the procedure. The customer decided to do the process themselves. The following week when our maintenance technician reported that the CYA level was still too high she was not happy. She belittled the technician and commented on the level of education and that he didnt know what he was talking about. Our office contacted her to see if we could help. The customer told the service coordinator that she was not going to drain her pool again. She was rude and also condescending to her as well. When I called her later that day I tried to make arrangements to come out and check her water chemistry and see what we could do to help her out she refused saying they would take a water sample to their local pool store to check our work. The following day she called the office to apologize and report that they did not drain enough water to drop the level of stabilizer and wanted us to come out and drain the pool for them this time. I called her back to inform her that we would no longer be servicing their account due to the condescending remarks she made to my maintenance technician and staff. She was unhappy with our decision not to continue servicing their account. Customer Service has always been a cornerstone that Parrot Head has been built on. We try to offer the best possible service at a competitive price.
