J R'S CUSTOM DECKS

It was time to replace the deck that came with the house that was built in 2005. After researching deck companies on Angie's list called JR decks to schedule an appointment for an estimate since he had numerous reviews and all outstanding. The original deck was 24 sq ft approximately 8 ft off the ground with a set of stairs that ended on a concrete patio. JR came out and we discussed different options for the deck. I decided I wanted a larger deck with arbor and JR listened to what I wanted and took measurements and said he would email the design for the new deck in a few days. I received the design and was very pleased with what he wanted to do. The proposed deck was going to be about 170 sq ft with a cedar arbor. The design included specifics as to materials, construction etc. We agreed on a price and start date of Jan 6 2014. JR started on time and finished 4 days later. The deck looks great and exceeded our expectations. JR truly knows how to design and build decks. He responded to all calls and answered all questions completely. His crew were very professional cleaned up after themselves and truly did a great job. As the saying goes " you get what you pay for " and in JR's case you truly get your monies worth. All one has to do is read the reviews JR has on Angie's list to realize that one should look no further than JR decks. He is a true professional that knows his trade and enjoys doing it. My wife wanted a little more privacy and we called JR back to see if he could install cedar privacy lattices and of course he did. Again a great job completed 2/13/2014. We will truly enjoy our new deck for years to come thanks to JR.

Impeccable craftsmanship and attention by the workers. Totally exceeded my expectations. JR maintained constant communication throughout the process. Workers were very skilled and professional. I'd definitely recommend JR Custom Decks to anyone wanting top-notch work done.

JR was VERY responsive as a contractor. Called on time and showed up on time and was very professional. Really trustworthy and experienced and delivered a product that he said he would... that'd I'd be happy with and feel good about the quality of construction and his willingness to address and problems (there were none). His crew cleaned up better than any other contractor I ever had. Surprised that he asked for full payment only after the work was done. The man is confident in his product/workmanship and he should be. I would have of course preferred a lower price, but I know I got what I paid for and I also paid for peace of mind after the sale. Would highly recommend JR. He's the type of contractor we all dream of having.

I am so pleased with J.R. and his team. J.R. came to my home the same day that I called him to discuss requirements for installation of a new deck. Shortly thereafter, he provided a written plan including sketch and a cost estimate. The price I was charged was exactly what was estimated. J.R. and his crew arrived promptly at my home on the day of installation and his crew immediately went to work removing my old deck and installing the new one. They worked very efficiently and finished the job in one day. The deck is attractive, very sturdy and secure. I could not have asked for a smoother installation. I highly recommend J.R. and his team. J.R. did everything he said that he would. He and his crew did an exceptional job.

This is the 2nd time JR's Custom decks has done work for us. At our previous home, we had a pergola and wooden deck added to the back of the house. The most recent work JR did for us is the addition of a covered porch to the back of our home. We chose to go with JR again because we were so completely satisfied with his work the first time around (he is punctual, professional, honest, and does great work). The porch we added to the back of our house is quite large. It was built upon an existing cement pad. JR pulled all the permits, and arranged to have a structural engineer come out to determine if our cement pad could support the weight of the large porch. The work was completed on schedule and exceeded our expectations. Two years later, our porch is still beautiful and we remain satisfied, loyal customers.

JR showed up for an initial consultation and provided a quote and sketch shortly thereafter. After finished our due diligence and gather other estimates/quotes we decided to proceed with JR. This was due to his punctuality, communication and advice during the quote process, and the overall volume of positive reviews here on Angie's List. JR began work on the framing of the deck on a Monday and was Finished mid-afternoon Wednesday. This timeline was faster than anticipated! His workers were very professional and punctual. My yard was cleaned up each night and cleaned very well when they finished. The quality of the work is VERY good. The deck is very nice, and exactly how we imagined. We could not be happier with the deck and its quality as well as the professionalism of JR and his employees.

After agreeing on structure and details, JR and crew constructed the stairs framing. Then the cedar steps and siding were installed and finished in an excellent manner. It was built to complement the cedar patio arbor that JR built for us last year. Everything went according to plan and it looks great!

JR was a great contractor. Answers all calls promptly and \ or calls you right back when you call. Scheduled appointment first day after calling him. My wife and I walked him through our thoughts on the design - he went to measuring and drawing. He called me about 2-3 days later and emailed us the plan. He also made arrangements to come by and discuss the plans with us. We approved the plan and the cost and JR scheduled us for the project (about 3 days later which was very satisfactory to us). His carpenters were great. JR was present on the job daily and his foreman was there 100% of the time. His workers worked hard in the SA heat and started early and completed on time each day. It took about 4 1/2 days to build both the deck and arbor. No major concerns developed during the job but JR would walk the job with us each day until completion. JR even has called several times after the job to make sure the painter was scheduled and to see if we had any more concerns about the deck -- great followup. I have had compliments from all my neighbors. I have been involved with contractors in my career and JR does a great job in all aspects of the job. I put a lot of importance on job knowledge and communication - and JR has great marks on each. I can understand why J R's Custom Decks has won so many Angies List awards. I will use him again as needed and have already referred him for neighbors who may want deck in future. FYI - I had no referrals for my deck addition - and I went with Angies List recommendations. J R's Custom Decks had large numbers of customer reviews and most of them were A's. After using him, I can understand the ratings. He works hard for the rating.

JR and his crew did a great job. Arrived and completed job promptly. the deck looks great. JR has been very helpful and willing to answer all questions.

Started and finished on time...would have been ahead of schedule except for rain delays! We are completely happy with the work and have already recommended him to our friends and neighbors!

A very detailed and professional working group. They did an excellent job and worked hard to ensure a quality product. I would have then build for me anytime.

We contacted J.R. two weeks ago and we now have a beautiful deck that far exceeded our expectations. He provided an estimate based on what we wanted and then quickly provided other options when we realized what we could afford on our budget (we did shop around and found that he was more than reasonable). The crew arrived on time. The workers were friendly and professional. They left the yard in a much better condition than when they arrived and we are more than pleased with the build quality of the finished product. J.R. and his crew brought life to a boring yard. All I can say is "Wow!" Our deck is beautiful. Building a custom deck this nice ($10,000 cedar deck) seems to be both an art and a science, and JR really has both subjects masterd. Do yourself a favor and stop your search now...Highly recommend.

The deck went very well. The difficult part was coordinating the irrigation and staining portion of the work.

It was a pleasure to work with JR and his crew. They brought me up to speed on what was needed, gave me several options to consider, and were punctual. The team was very pleasant and enjoyable to work with--something you don't always get with a construction crew. Most of all they did a great job--we're quite pleased with the results. They got our beat-up old deck looking like new again. Highly recommended!

Everything went well. No issues

Overall very good work at reasonable prices. He did have to redo some rail finishing and top rail splicing. The finished product is very good, but the top rail does have some noticeable fit problems. Side gate is excellent and this part he did entirely from scratch, while the back deck he was working to update an older foundation. The communication was excellent and he was flexible with my dogs.

It went better than planned. He started on Friday morning and and worked all day Monday without me being home most of the day. Tuesday he picked up any leftovers from the job and got paid. I would highly recommend Jr for his professionalism, always returning calls and waiting for approval from my HOA. His design of the finished product was MUCH better than I anticipated. CUDOS for JR. I would highly recommend him for his work.

HE was very punctual , he told me they would be here 8 am and they were here, worked very diligently on the Arbor, took all correct measurements etc, his two workers were very good too , they didn't disturb us at all. Overall , they did an excellent job , we are very happy and satisfied with thier work . We will recommend them any time to any one . JR are professionals , they do a n excellent job , very neat nad clean , he cleaned up after finishing , didnot leave any trash for us to worry about . He took total of 2 full days to finish the job , now we can enjoy our patio much more then before all thanks to JR .

I would say the my experience was good. I thought that there were 2 boards that I thought something was wrong and he came back out and replaced them. He was prompt and he did what he said he would do.

My husband and I recently joined Angie's List when we decided to start investing in some delayed repairs to our home. When we decided to replace our deck we visited Angie's List and called the two top rated deck installation companies on the list. JR responded to our inquiry first and within just a few hours from the time we contacted him. We made an appointment for JR to come out and give us a quote within a day or two. The other company responded in a reasonable amount of time but were not able to come out to provide a quote until the following week. We requested quotes for both cedar and composite decking materials. When we received the two quotes JR was the clear winner on both cedar and composite. We confirmed we were comparing apples to apples by asking questions about the grade of wood and the details of the job. JR's quote for a cedar deck was almost $5000 less than the other company. In addition, the other company told us they would re-use our sub-structure AND they were still much more expensive. When I asked JR why he quoted the deck with a new sub-structure he said that just as a house is only as good as the foundation it's built on the same holds true with a new deck. At that moment I knew JR did quality work and would not be cutting any corners. Once we made our decision to go with JR things happened quickly. I believe it was about one week from the time JR got the thumbs up from us and the day the crew arrived to begin the demo of our existing deck. The crew was exactly on time, professional and they cleaned up the mess completely. From start to finish the entire process was smooth and effortless on our part. My experience with many home repair and service companies is that they often do not respond in a way that makes you feel they want your business. JR always did exactly what he said he would do, he called when he said he would call and he showed up and did the job exactly as planned. JR inspected the job after it was completed and made certain we were happy with the work. We are very happy with our new deck and are completely comfortable recommending JR's Custom Decks.

JR came out promptly after our initial phone call. He prepared a plan, and emailed it to us after a few phone calls going over the details. We changed our minds at least 3 times on various aspects of the plans, and JR was always at the ready to accommodate and tweak whatever was necessary until we were satisfied. We really liked the time he spent with us in the initial phase - making sure all of us were on the same page before he and his crew started the work. We found some interesting "caps" to go on top of the posts in the railings he was doing for us, and we sent a photo we found on the web to see if he could duplicate the finishing. JR found what we wanted and quickly incorporated them into the plan. This was a very large job and the work was done in under a week. The finishing touches and overall quality came about beautifully and we can't wait to show it off to our friends and neighbors!

Great experience! Loved the end result. JR was responsive throughout, listening to what we wanted and offering suggestions for the best solution for our space. We also had to delay the work due to a very long approval process through our HOA. JR continued to check in with us and was ready to get the work done when we were finally able to move forward. His patience was greatly appreciated. The guys he had complete the work were great as well, they completed the work as promised, within the times outlined and the finish was great. We love the patio.
