Description of Work: Tim did an excellent job with inspecting our chimney and fireplace for proper drafting and thorough cleaning of chimney! I also bought a damper pull to improve ease of opening and closing damper. He was very neat using cloths to protect carpet and hearth from dirt and damage. Loved his top hat! He took his time,explained what he was doing,and answered all of my questions!

 + 0 moreDon't let the high price scare you off - they (Tim plus an assistant) had a lot of work to do here. We were afraid we were going to have to hire a brick mason to do some repairs on the tops of our chimneys as well, but Tim was able to do what we needed. They were very thorough - more so than other chimney sweeps we've hired in the past. For example, Tim actually disassembled the dampers on both fireplaces, removed them and cleaned on top of them. (There must have been 2" of soot there!) We've never had anyone do that before. He also removed and disassembled our one gas log set, cleaned it thoroughly so that it looks brand new (also never done before). He gave us good hints on how to prevent smoke from entering the house when burning wood by better use of the damper; he also told me about a product that would remove the grimey soot on the bricks from past smoke that had escaped (I'd tried lots of other things that didn't work - his suggestion did!) Tim's been doing this for a long time and is very knowledgeable. He is very willing to answer questions and teach you about your fireplace if you want to learn. We learned quite a bit about how to build a better, more efficient, safer fire. Also, with all the soot they found in our fireplaces I was concerned about a mess, but I was shocked/surprised/happy when they left that they took everything with them - no soot anywhere!!! We're about to put the house on the market and the pre-inspection said the fireplaces/chimneys looked better than many new ones!

 + 0 moreThe English Sweep was professional and did a good job. I was very happy with their service and work and would definitely hire them again.
Description of Work: I called them to clean out my chimney and install a cap. The chimney had had bird nests every year and hadn't been used in several years. They arrived when they said they would (called ahead to let me know they would be a few minutes late), and set up near the fireplace, covering everything well so that nothing would get dirty. There were 2-3 workmen, and one worked in the den inside the fireplace, the other on the roof. They found cracks in the brick up on the roof and explained what they had found, how they would repair it, and how it would make the cap much more sturdy. They also found lots of debris and even rocks in the chimney, and cleaned it all out. There were a couple of cracks in the firewall below, which they repaired. They also asked if I would be interested in having my dryer vent cleaned out. I definitely wanted this done, as I had noticed how much longer it was taking my dryer to dry the clothes. Once they had repaired the chimney and installed the cap, they cleaned out the dryer vent (also vented on the roof) and found huge amounts of lint inside, which they showed me. I was so glad to get rid of this fire hazard! They then checked the dryer connections and vent in the laundry room itself, cleaned the tubing there, and reconnected everything so that it was airtight. While I ended up paying more than I had anticipated, I was very satisfied that my fireplace is now usable, pulls air well, with an easily opening/shutting flue (they also repaired that). On top of that, my dryer works so much better, and I don't worry about fire hazard. They explained everything they did and showed me the reasons why I needed the repair or cleaning. They left everything very clean and tidy. I am very satisfied with The Clean Sweep and found them to be very thorough and professional. The main sweep even wore tails and a top hat, which was a big hit with us and made us smile.

 + -1 moreTim and his helper arrived on time. One fireplace has gas logs and they removed the fake logs and cleaned them also. The other is wood burning. They had drop cloths with them. They were careful, clean and did NOT make or leave any mess. Tim had a few products with him that I did not have, but when I said I was not interested in them he was fine with that.
