Called first thing this morning and was pleasantly surprised by their promptness. In fact, I wish we had called the day prior at 5pm, could have had it fixed during normal business hours (7am to 7pm) for no extra money for an after hours call. Would have been a cooler night! As prompt as they are, I had my cell phone on silent while working on a project. About noon, I realized it and noticed missed calls and voice mail. I immediately called thinking I had missed my chance. Even though I messed things up, he was extremely nice about it and returned my house immediately. He had the problem diagnosed within minutes and gave us options. Cheaper parts/less cost today or spend a little more and get a 5 year warranty. I am happy to spend a little more to know that I won't have to buy another capacitor for 5 years (at least.) It was nice to have a choice and there was no "sales tactics" just a concise explanation of our options. Very professional and courteous. Job was completed faster than I could have removed the cover. House was cool 15 minutes later.
Description of Work: Diagnosed and repaired central A/C unit. Replaced failed capacitor with new part with 5 year warranty.

Hill Country Air had been working up a quote for us for a new A/C system since ours was going out. Mr. Pierce came our and took measurements and discussed several types of systems that might fit. Over the course of the week, He was very patient and helpful when we kept asking him to provide quotes for us on other name brand systems. The problem was that the space that the A/C is located in is very tight so therefore you don't have a lot of options. Mr. Pierce was extremely knowledgeable and helped to keep our A/C hobbling along until we could get the new one installed. We finally made a decision on a system that was not one of Mr. Pierces'. I called him and discussed it with him and he was very professional from beginning to end in our dealings with him. I trust him to do an outstanding job and would not hesitate to call him when I need a repair or replacement done.
Description of Work: Mr. Pierce came out and checked our refrigerant in our A/C and kept our unit limping along until we could make a decision on which unit we were going to purchase.

It was great. They not only advised me on getting a new system but also helped get my current system up and running for the time being. He didn't even charge me for the help. When I am ready to get the new system I will definitely use this company.

Our AC unit stopped working Good Friday morning. I called our "x" air conditioning company (not on Angie's list) mid-morning and was greeted with the usual answering machine. The answering machine did not say they were closed for Good Friday and I called back a few hours later and still only the answering machine. The weather forecast was hot for the weekend and we did not want a hot house on Easter weekend. So my wife got on-line and signed up for Angie's list to look up a near by AC service company. I called Hill Country Air about 11:00am and Mr. Pierce said he could arrive between 4 and 5 pm. He arrived on time. Mr. Pierce was very kind, knowledgeable and informative as we discussed our older AC units. He determined a small fuse had blown and replaced it at no charge, only asking us to consider calling Hill Country Air for for future service...We will.

The project completely exceeded our expectations for our 25 year old house. We now have not only restored airflow but it is uniform and solid. The dust is amazingly gone- we even did a dust test before and after. We could dust a dark coffee table and by the next day, a light layer of fine dust was on it. We did the same test and it's still clear and clean. Simply wonderful. We aren't sneezing anymore, either!. Plus we had been heating our attic due to the holes and lost insulation on the old bad flex duct so we should see pretty quickly an improvement on our heating bill for January/February and also cooling this summer. The house even has a new fresh scent. Since buying the house we had been breathing air flowing through the old ducts and also it seemed like dust from the attic was infiltrating into the old duct work when the system was off- always had a dusty/moldy/stale smell. Was a fantastic experience and worth every penny. It literally has been like we moved into a new house. Hill Country Air is definitely getting our new system business when we have put the funds away for a new airhandler and heat pump (we would like a larger 3M box filter one day). He never pushed us, not even once, in any way, even passively with a brochure, selling us a new system. That's unheard of. That blew us away. Now that he knows our air duct system and pressure gradients, it's going to make sense to go with HCA anyhow. HCA is a small firm so I would suggest that future customers respect the old adage that you have to be a good customer too. HCA is not a firm with a dozen trucks and 30 odd hired-hands. But if you can wait and be patient- you cannot go wrong with Hill Country Air. I'd call a big firm if it was a bona-fide after-hours critical emergency, but if you have a project you want done carefully, where you can ask questions, and where your service writer is also the owner and key technician- go HCA.
Description of Work: We knew when we purchased our home that the 1986-era flex duct had deteriorated due to the years and the materials used back then. We wanted an established local firm and also checked references and Hill Country Air and another firm were always at the top. We knew this this duct retro-fit was a project that some AC contractors don't readily take on so we felt it was better to work with one that officed close to our home in case it had to be an end of day oriented project- we were okay with that. We fully understand that AC companies do need to take care of emergencies or have big eqiupment installations that have to be done quickly due to weather, daylight, etc. Richard with Hill Country Air ("HCA") came over promptly at the agreed time- did a full check of our attic, plenum, crawlspaces and then gave me a bid the next day. Was very fair and not too low- especially since this was going to be more like a 30% material and 70% labor project understandibly. They arrived on site the morning they promised and did a complete removal of our duct work. Fortunately we didn't have any ducts that were in-between ceilings and floors- all accessible except for one tight spot near the plenum. They installed all new high quality (NOT big box/discount material) flex duct, installed a new register to improve cross-room airlfow in one room that had a poorly thought-out register installed when the house was built. They removed all old duct work, swept up the insulation and all the decayed flakes of plastic that rained down from the old ducts. They also did a complete recalculation of the ducting as the original builder used only one size throughout the house and did not calculate for pressure drops or splits. They also re-did our distribution boxes and totally cleaned-up and fixed plenum and the initial distribution box. They did not just 'replace the ducts'- they took the time to do it right. On top of that, they came back one more time to tweak the location of a duct that we failed to tell them we needed moved slightly to the side near the attic access hatch for storage. Was no fault of theirs as we forgot to mention it from the beginning- Richard came back himself without a fuss at no extra charge. Richard returned all calls and was easy to reach- has a very friendly website.

If there were any questions or issues they would be right back on the spot to check it out. They were very good with the follow-through. We had been having some problems, and they came out on their own just to check once and make sure that it was still working correctly. They were excellent. We would definitely use them again.

Our A/C went out after 7 pm on a hot Saturday evening. Called several other local companies, but they were booked through the evening and would not come out on Sunday. Called Hill Country Air and Richard promptly answered the call. He was out on the job had other emergencies ahead of mine, but said the latest he would be out would be early Sunday. I booked my appointment. 20 minutes later he called back and had a cancellation and was on his way. Took him less than 10 minutes to change out the capacitor and we were up and running again. Honest, hard-working, and responded faster than promised. We couldn't be more pleased.
Description of Work: Replaced A/C capacitor.

He brought in foot covers, which I thought was amazing. He's extremely nice. He told me he would be here at 10, came in at about 10:20 and apologized.
Description of Work: Spring a/c check for four units. Two of the a/c(s) share a bathroom drain, and that had gotten kind of moldy and clogged. He took it apart, took it outside and cleaned it. Price includes "B-Smart Service Agreement."
