I worked with David, and he did a tremendous job of helping us get the right units. I found him and all the people at Gorman Mechanical to be highly professional, courteous, knowledgeable, and genuinely concerned about me as a customer. I know the A/C units will provide years and years of great service to our home, and I have confidence that if there is ever a problem, Gorman Mechanical will be right there to take care of it. My thanks to this company -- for a great product, for great service, and for the personal care to me and my family. What a blessing.

Background Both my upper and lower HVAC units were put in with my house in 1989, so they were old, but working. I decided to get a quote on them (especially the lower) before it quit this summer. I had (too many) six quotes and was trying to compare (I used a spread sheet of pros and cons, reputation, cost, reliability). A friend told me to try Gorman. After checking them on Angies, I sent them a note via email and they got back to me the next day to schedule David to come out. Estimate David contacted me and came out. He was professional and explained everything after an inspection of the inside and outside existing units, ducting (which was good) and what I was looking for (energy efficiency for the long run, reliability, warranty). The estimate was competitive, but in the middle of what I had received. David has explained that I may qualify for the Trane interest free promotion until 2020 to help with payments since I am on a limited budget. He quoted both lower and upper units. I spoke with my other leading company (one with great reviews on Angies) and decided to go with Trane and get quotes for the same system from both. I elected to go with a wifi thermostat (my choice), which was not part of the original quote and a 17 seer, 3 ton unit to save $ over the long term in monthly payments, rather than save on a cheaper system now. I got both companies to match on everything (warranties: 10 yr parts/labor, 3 yr. servicing). I also asked for a 1 year filter to save on changing it out all the time. That was a small upgrade. I elected to just have the lower unit replaced since I could not afford both. I liked that David was willing to help me get financing and spent a little extra time explaining things to me. They also agreed to install on Saturday since I work long hours all week and could not take off work. Installation On the saturday of install, the two installers were here (David did not show, although he originally said he would). Although their English was not great, we did communicate and they were really nice and careful of my home. Unfortunately, someone had negliected to put all of the items for the unit on the truck and they could not install the whole system. They installed MOST of it, so it ran, but it did not run great. They did do an awesome job fitting the blower in the attic (they disassembled it and reassembled it up there to fit it through the narrow door. I do not know how they did it, but they got it done! Miguel, the installer was fantastic. After they finished the first part of install, they said they would have to come back (or someone from Gorman would) to finish the installation (the plenum, which was not on the truck and the filter). So a week went by and David contacted me on Monday and said someone would be there the next Saturday to finish. It was a hot week and the system ran constantly (it was not sealed around the intake). It was loud. My weekly energy bills showed an increase. The next weekend, Miguel came back and installed the plenum/filter and we discussed the wifi (as much as one can). David came by and quoted the upper unit for the future and said one of their technicians would come out and adjust the unit. The technician came out, could not figure out why the humidity in my house was so high (I was running 65%). He put freon in the unit and said if it was not fixed, to call and get an "advanced" technician to come out. Two days later, and tired of having to call, I made the call to have the advanced technician come out and determine what was going on (I was ready to ask for my old unit back!). The advanced technician came out that next day. He found that it was not the freon, but that the settings in the unit were not correct. He corrected the settings (and turned it so heat will come on!) and removed a filter in the ducting that was stopping air flow and making noise. He said that the factory settings for Trane HVACs for this unit were strange, but he fixed them. Today the unit is working well, is quiet and efficient. Summary I am pleased I went with Gorman, although I do not know if things would have been quicker with the other company (in number of visits and trouble shooting). My previous electric bills were pretty low ($125-200) and they have fallen a bit more (even while it is heating up). Bills now typically run $105-145. The good: Items explained and time spent on details and negotiating (thanks David!) Willing to work with me on financing (thanks again David!) and gave me a quote on the upper unit. Installing in a small space (thanks Miguel!) Advanced technician helped (sorry, forgot his name): adjusted the settings on the unit and quickly found the source of the noise. Competitive pricing (matched other Angies List company) Energy bills have gone down, even with temperatures going up (energy efficient unit) Good warranty Wifi works great and I use it with my smart phone, so I can adjust it while at work The bad Took three trips (not including estimate) to get it done and one week of hot, humid inadequate air waiting for the plenum install. Part of this was due to not having the right items on the truck that went to install (communication issues?) and I am sure they could have done it sooner, had I taken off of work during the week (which I could not) The first technician that came out after the install was nice, but he did not know what he was doing and could not adjust the internal components of the Trane. So that was a waste of time. Summary I like Gorman and they came highly recommended by my friend. I think they are a good company and I will post again when I use them for servicing my unit. I am not sure if my experience is typical and I am sure it presented challenges (especially with the installation done by Miguel and the adjustments after by the advanced technician). I took off a point on responsiveness (this is a grey area) since they did have to come out three times to complete this. I was pretty frustrated on the third visit.

After catching another A rated company with hundreds of reviews in a blatant misrepresentation, I expanded my search for companies to bid on replacing my HVAC system. In doing some online research, I stumbled on Gorman Mechanical's website, and after looking them up on Angie's List, I decided to include them. I'm sure glad I did. Gorman's Sales Manager, David Hart came out and after looking at my system and evaluating my needs, patiently sat and answered a million questions. At this point I was being overly cautious, but David took plenty of time answering my questions and helping me evaluate and weigh the various options available. He was very down to earth and not "salesman-like" at all. He provided what I felt was a very competitive bid and by the time we were finished, I felt so comfortable and was confident that I didn't need to look any further, so I cancelled three other appointments for additional bids. David was able to arrange awesome financing on the spot within a few minutes, and my installation was scheduled a couple days later. After financing was in place, I decided to go ahead with an additional option and an extended labor warranty for which I would pay out of pocket after installation. The installers arrived as expected and after 4-5 hours everything was finished. I couldn't be there, and there was a mix-up on the amount due, so a friend over paid a bit via credit card. I contacted David with some additional questions about maintenance and mentioned the overpayment. He responded promptly that a refund check was being sent, and again answered all my questions. It's been less than a week but I'm amazed at how my new system operates and how much more comfortable the house is with the thermostat set at higher temperatures. The system is really delivering as promised and I'm very happy with my entire experience. I would not hesitate to recommend Gorman Mechanical to friends or family.

Very happy with the price and the quote was exact. No coming out later and trying to charge more saying, I need this and that and it will be this many $$$$ more . I did my homework and had multiple HAC companies come out. Gormans Price and service can't be beat. I just did your homework for you. Very nice people before and after the job was done. I had not one but two calls asking if everything was working and if I had any questions. OUTSTANDING ! They cleaned up very well and were here when they said, had it all done in one day. Can't say enough about how pleased we were. We saved and received much more than other quotes. Go with Gormans you won't be sorry.

We have been using Gorman Mechanical since we initially purchased our home in April 2012. They did the initial repairs on our Air conditioning and heating systems and we have a contract for annual preventative maintenance and inspection of all our systems. We have 5 units in our home. They are always professional and thorough and I think a very reasonable cost.

Our previous homeowners warranty company used Gorman so when we had problems immediately upon moving in that's who we called. One of the existing units was shot and the other was close to death itself. The technician was great about explaining everything and gave me honest options from a quick fix to total replacement. We went with replacement and everyone at Gorman (office associates and installers) was thorough, courteous, and on time throughout the whole process. Since the install has been completed they have been great about answering my questions and very prompt in helping me. I would not hesitate to use them again.

My bottom floor A/C unit is very intermittently (twice in 3 weeks) tripping the breaker. Keep in mind it hasn't been running as much as it will in the summer. I called my home warranty company (I purchased this home 6 months ago and it came with a home warranty and hence the $60 price of visit) and they sent a request to Gorman Mechanical. Gorman promptly called me to schedule a technician visit the next day. It was scheduled for 11-3 window. At a little past 11 the next day Gorman called to say the tech was on his way and within 30 minutes he was here. He checked the A/C unit and set it to run continuously and even waited for a bit. He checked the electrical usage and noted it wasn't pulling more than the breaker. He checked for any other issues and could only find the freon was slightly low so he corrected that. The problem may not be solved (we'll see) but the service was as perfect as can be and the technician was a professional and I trust his judgment. I would easily call them again for any A/C work on my houses.

If they had something higher than an A rating I would give it to Michael and his crew at Gorman Mechanical. First of all if you have the owner of the business come out and personally meet you to quote a job it's a good sign. Michael was very informative and good at explaining all the details and why the we should do things a certain way going forward with a new system. He was honest and upfront and I knew I could trust his judgment and his word. Before this big job we'd used Gorman for 2 service jobs over the summer. Both times they were fantastic in response time and quality of work. This job was no different. They used 2 crews to completely tear down my existing systems and put in brand new systems in a period of 6 hours. Now our house has fully upgraded two stage compressor, two stage fan units with humidity control and wireless thermostats that I can control from anywhere. I literally have nothing bad to say about these folks. You just can't go wrong with Gorman Mechanical. While this isn't their busiest season I had this job done within 1 week of the quote which is pretty amazing. If you need quality work give them a call.

I will NEVER again use this company. They were the only provider in my area (Rhome) from my home warranty company. They came the first time on approx June 14th because my air conditioner was not cooling as well as it should. It was set to 73 and it would get up to 70-80 in the evenings. The guy came 1 hour late. My time was supposed to be from 11-3pm. They called at 3:20 saying he was behind and would be here in about 45 minutes. He arrived and said the only problem was the outside unit was dirty and it would be $40 to clean it. So I paid my deductible plus the $40 for him to clean it. After he finished washing it with my water hose he said the unit looked great and everything was perfect. The next few days we were gone but when we got back I realized it was not working still. I called the warranty company and told them it was still not fixed and asked if I had to pay the deductible again since it clearly was not fixed the first time. They said no. So they came again today. The tech was very nice and knowledgeable this time. He told me the reason it wasnt cooling was because "improper duct work". I was then told I would have to pay another $60 because it was a different problem. I said no, it is not a different problem, it is a different diagnosis and if this was the correct diagnosis then it was missed the first time. I had to pay again and would not have been in this situation if the first tech knew anything and did not miss the real problem. I think he was just in a hurry because it was the end of the day. Our attic is floored and very open. He would have seen the problem if he knew anything about air conditioners. I will NOT be contacting Gorman Mechanical for the duct work that needs to be done for my unit to work.
Description of Work: Air conditioner was not cooling so they came out two times because the first tech misdiagnosed the problem. Maybe he did not know, maybe the company sends people to just do the minimum so they can get another service fee when more stuff is really wrong. Dishonest!

Response from Gorman Mechanical, Inc.
When our Tech. went out on the 14th he discovered that the homeowners evaporator coil was 20-30 % dirty and condenser coil was 90% dirty. H/o was advised about her condition of her unit by both techs. Member was not happy that she had to pay for washing of the unit and thought that the home warranty should have covered it. The first time we went to their house was on 6/13/2011 and the weather was 93, the second time was two weeks later and it was 104-106 outside temperature. The second tech who went out verified that her system was performing to the best of its ability with the high outdoor temperature but it could perform better with some duct work modifications. Her home warranty does not cover replacement or modifacation of duct system unless internal duct liner is damaged from normal wear and tear, all this is stated in their contract. Their home warranty is Nations Home Warranty. The homeowner was also advised that with home warranties if they do not properly maintain their units and they have a failure "due to lack of maintaince" that repairs would not be covered if it was related to the maintaince issue.

Overall, I think that Gorman Mechanical did a good job. I can't comment on price since my home warranty covered everything. When the technician came out and discovered that the unit was frozen, he told me that he would have to come back another day. I called the office to confirm a new date/time and the manager got on the phone and told me that he would make sure it was resolved today. I appreciated that since I already took the day off. The did the job well and had lots of good information when I asked questions about the unit. The only concern I had is that each of their technicians gave completely opposite opinions regarding what type of unit to replace mine with when the time came to replace it. I would definitely allow Gorman to quote me the costs of future work or a new system, but I would make sure and get additional quotes as well since I don't have first-hand experience with their pricing,

This company has been to our house three times now to repair our two a/c units. We currently use a home warranty company, so I am unsure of the actual amount being billed as we just pay the service charge. Each time, the repairman has been extremely professional, prompt, and clean. The last guy even took his boots off before walking on the carpet which I appreciated very much. I do think since we are going through the warranty company, perhaps Gorman Mechanical isn't taking quite as good care of us as our previous repairman. Our one unit is fairly old and instead of putting bandages on it to limp it along, I am sure if we were paying outright, they would just recommend replacing it. I don't think this is a problem with Gorman though, just warranties in general.

I came home on Tuesday to find one of my A/C units wasn't working. My son was scheduled for tonsillectomy on Friday and would be home all week. Without A/C, I was concerned for his comfort. I sent Gorman a request from their website, explained the situation and pleaded for emergency service. They came out the next day by 1pm! The repair guy detected the problem within minutes and told me he needed to do some work to confirm it. Within 30 minutes he had a firm estimate of $65 for the trip/labor and $130 for parts! They didn't even charge me an emergency fee. I've also been using Gorman for my business needs for about 2 years. They are GREAT! Their diagnosis of any problem has always been right on target. And they have a 100% first time fix track record. A couple of years ago I had become fed up with my A/C contractor. I decided to go with Gorman because of some charity work they did thru KLTY. At the beginning, I would also price shop them. Their price was always equal to or less than anyone else. More importantly, in emergency failure situations, their price remains the same so they're not taking advantage of these situations. Honest, Dependable, Accurate, Reasonable: I recommend Gorman Mechanical for business and personal. My dad also uses them.

I have used them for my old property when I was selling it and also for the new property. Overall, I liked them and their pricing was good. They were not too bad on the pricing at all. The first time that I used them, I went through the home warranty service but then after that I have been using them and paying them directly. They have their own warranty service wherein, if you pay then they would come out and do the inspection. If the other things go wrong, then it could be covered under their warranty. The only issue that I have with them is that they are fairly busy. When they tell you that that they are going to get there then they would get there. They would call you ahead of the time to give you twenty or thirty minutes notice.

After being stood up by another company, I contacted Gorman Mechanical for an overdue service of an A/C unit. Scheduling was easy, and the company called one hour ahead to let me know that the technician was on his way. After some initial trouble finding my condo, the technician began his work, serviced the entire unit, and was finished in less than an hour. The technician was very professional and courteous, and gave me a detailed list of the readings of the A/C unit for future reference. It should be noted that the price of $160 was for a performance plan that includes the fall check of the unit as well, which I believe is a good deal.

Our AC unit quit working three days after we moved into a new house in July. Our home warranty company sent Gorman Mechanical. The tech wrote on the report: "Found blower motor burnt up, Nations (warranty company) denial LOM (lack of maintenance) Eup coil is over 50% clogged, squirrel cage is 100% caked. Motor can be changed out for approx $600 and new 5 ton air handler w 20 KW heat $2600." We got a second opinion from a different company (one that scored an A on Angie's List) and they determined that the motor was fine, it had just become loose in its bracket, and they fixed it for $217. They also cleaned the coils. All this for about 10% of the price Gorman estimated. I rated Gorman high on responsiveness and punctuality -- they came out the same day and right on time. I rate them F on professionalism and price -- the assessment of the problem was incorrect, and would have caused us to spend 10 times the money on service and parts that were not needed. Eventually, I am sure we will have to replace our 18-year old AC -- and my business will go to a different company.
Description of Work: Inspected AC unit that was not working.

They did an excellent job. They were very professional. They worked late to get the job done. They were very clean. They have a company policy of no swearing and no tobacco use on the customers property.
Description of Work: They came to my house and they relocated the return air for a remodeling job.
