The Steam Team

I used today's Groupon to get two rooms cleaned for $49. While on the phone scheduling my appt it came to light that this deal only applies to rooms with wall-to-wall carpet, not area rugs. We only have one room with wall-to-wall carpet (and a few area rugs in others) so The Steam Team generously offered to clean and Scotch Guard the wall-to-wall carpet since we didn't have a second wall-to-wall carpet to clean. Also, they were able to come out today and had no problem accepting the Groupon even though it technically does not activate until tomorrow. Cool. Mario, their Senior Cleaning Specialist, arrived well within the quoted time frame. He was friendly, professional, and respectful. Within seconds I could tell that he knew his job well. I showed Mario my area rugs because I wanted a quote on how much it would cost to get a few spots out. Once Mario saw how small (and inexpensive) the rugs were, he said he would lump them into the Groupon and just charge me a nominal fee to Scotch Guard the wall-to-wall carpet. Even better. The entire process didn't take very long and the wall-to-wall carpet looks brand new. Mario took care to advise me on how long it would take for the carpet to dry. The cleaning solution is pleasantly scented but not overpoweringly so. Overall and excellent experience. Will I use them again? In a heartbeat! I've been looking for a competent carpet cleaning company and I'm happy to report that I've finally found one.

The Steam Team was recommended to us by our daughter and son-in-law who own a flooring franchise. I emailed ST and gave them the square footage of the rooms and description of the work we needed. They responded quickly with an estimate that was reasonable, so we called and made an appointment for four days later. Brian, the ST technician, was a few minutes later than the 30-mnute window, but just a few. He explained what he was going to do and the order in which he would clean the rooms. He gave us some safety warnings about the cleaning liquid being slippery on hard surfaces and gave us some recommendations about how soon to walk on the carpet and move the furniture back. We had moved most of the furniture, so he could get right to work. He was able to use his truck-mounted steam vacuum so the only equipment in the house was the steam line and vacuum hose. He worked quickly and efficiently and was done within two hours. We opened the house up and turned on the ceiling fans and the floor was dry enough to start moving furniture back on it in about two hours. He said it would be completely dry in 8 to 10 hours. Brian assured us that the cleaner they use is pet-friendly and we could let our cats out as soon as he finished. It was a painless process and we are pleased with the results.

It was not disclosed to me, nor did I think to ask about the use of scented stain removers/pre-treatments. But when the job was completed, there was a very prominent perfume type scent throughout the home. I called the Austin office the nest morning and a gentleman who identified himself as the office manager spoke to me about the scent. He said that the stain removers/pre-treatment was scented and that this particular product had been used by them for about 7 years. When I asked whether anyone else had complained about the scent in the past, he said that he has had occasionally complaints though not many. I then asked why the use of scented materials was not disclosed and was told there was no disclosure because their use resulted in only occasional complaints. He did offer to send out another crew to do a second cleaning with steam only to try to remove more of the scented material, but it was now September 1 and I had turned the keys back in to the landlord as my lease had expired the day before. I was told that Steam Team did not offer unscented stain removers/pre-treatments, although it is hard for me to imagine that such products are not available in the marketplace. The crew that did the cleaning said the drying time would be 12-24 hours. The carpets looked great at the conclusion of the service. However, I will never use or recommend Steam Team again because of their failure to disclose the use of scented materials when they know absolutely that the scent is offensive to some customers. They have apparently made a calculation not to disclose this as they would prefer to deal with the occasional unhappy customer but have the additional revenue rather than being more forthcoming about the scent and risk losing, by their own admission, a very small amount of business. This lack of forthrightness is inexcusable. The big discrepancy in quoted drying time for the carpets further speaks to an apparent policy not to be totally forthcoming about the services being performed.

We used them one time before as well. We spent about $200 on that service. We used them again because they did a good job.

Two well-groomed and very nice men did the work; they worked quickly and efficiently. Very nice job, I will be using this company again. Easy to get the job done and done right! That's what I want and they delivered!!!

They were absolutely excellent. They were very professional. I called and it was easy to schedule. I made an appointment. Manuel Garza was the guy who came out. He was excellent. He explained everything that he was going to do. It took him a while to do it because my carpet was in a bad shape. I wanted to replace it, but I decided to try it one last time to have it cleaned. However, he cleaned it better than any other cleaning company I have used and I have used several. So, I was very pleased. The cleaning of the sofa turned out really nice as well. I thought they were reasonable in their prices. I was satisfied with them. They charged me about $250, but I am not sure. I would use their services in the future too.

The Steam Team called before arrival, walked thru work to be done, provided suggestions on cleaning options before getting started. Once they started things moved quickly. The team checked in periodically thru the work to have me take a look before proceeding. Fast and professional.

I have my carpets cleaned at least twice a year since I have pets who track things in. This was my first time to use Steam Team. They offer Saturday service, which was very convenient. The crew showed up right on time, listened to my instructions, asked about any problem areas, were efficient and careful, and did a beautiful job. They even got a spot out that another company hadn't been able to remove in 2 subsequent visits. They were extremely professional, courteous, friendly and pleasant. I'll definitely have them back.

The tech showed up on time and cleaned the areas we requested. Unfortunately, my husband didn't review the work and when I came home, I found the guest room carpet was actually more stained than when I left that morning. There was also a stain at the top of the stairs that had not been treated. So we called Steam Team back to request follow up service. We were told that the tech would be there between 2:00 - 5:00 and we would be called first. Shortly after 9:00, the tech showed up with no phone call to let me know he'd be early. When I stated I expected him in the afternoon, he said "Well, I can leave and try to come back later, but I can't make any guarantees." And with the tone he used, he might as well have given me the finger as he was saying it. Not wanting to mess around with this any longer, I let him in. He was surly and unpleasant but got right to work. When I showed him the mess in the guest room, he said "Yeah, I didn't swipe that right before." I'm still wondering what they use that left the rusty looking stain behind the first time around. But he cleaned it. I inspected his work and while the carpet looked much better, some discoloration was still left behind. I will use a different company the next time around. UPDATE 7/14/11 - Received a call from Jay apologizing for our experience and he made numerous offers to make this situation right, including a full refund. Since we've used Steam Team with good results, I accepted his offer of a credit for future service and will give them another chance.

They did a fantastic job. They were fast, professional and to the point. We didn't get a run around which is nice. We got a quote, they came upstairs, they did the carpet, we paid them and they left. They are flexible with their times. We had a pretty messed up schedule and they were able to get around our schedule.

I was able to arrange the appointment all online. They came the week I requested and at the time I requested. Plus they confirmed the appointment the day before through email. All very efficient and professional for half the price of my previous contractor.

They arrived right on time and cleaned 8 rooms plus one area rug. They treated all the spots and areas of heavier soil before they cleaned the rooms. One area was so dirty I thought I might have to replace the carpet. Now it looks like the carpet is new! I have a little steam cleaner I use when a spot just can't wait, and I know how much effort I have to put into doing even a small area myself. Having The Steam Team do my whole house was worth every penny! I'm about to list my home for sale, and I now have carpets that look new, and the whole house just seems fresher. They even cautioned me about the possibility I might slip on my tile floors after walking on the carpet while it's still wet. I'm very happy with the job and how pleasant and professional they were.

I called and was able to get an appointment the next day. The technician arrived early and did a great job. He was very knowledgeable and offered me some tips to help keep my carpets looking great. Super friendly and professional.

The service man was very professional

Had a grease fire on range 9/27/2010 which burned microwave and cabinet above and caused smoke and soot contamination to interior of our home. I attempted to call one advertised company to obtain an estimate, got their recorder and left a message; as of 8 months later, they have failed to return my call. I continued to check on-line for local companies and their customer ratings and found "The Steam Team of Austin", who had received glowing reviews from many (virtually all) of their customers. I called them and the call was answered promptly and the woman I spoke with (sorry, don't know her name, but she was very nice) obtained my information, checked and advised that they had a team on a job in the area and would have them respond as soon as they completed their job. They did arrive that afternoon within 2-3 hours of the fire. Kade Templeton, Emergency Services Department Manager, and his crew were very empathetic and reassuring, went about the task of testing the interior of the house for smoke and soot damage, doing test wipes of virtually all exposed surfaces. He explained what services would be required, which would not and why, and began coordinating repairs with our insurance adjuster. He even made a return trip to our house, despite our being rural and about 25 miles from their offices, to meet with the adjuster and accompanied him on a tour of the house to explain their findings. I saw no pressure or attempt on Mr. Templeton's part to "up-sell" more services than were absolutely necessary. The adjuster subsequently approved all of his recommendations with no denials, and commented to us later about Mr. Templeton's professionalism and integrity. The Steam Team arrived within 48 hours, on time, to begin cleaning the house. There were at least 3-4 employees doing the work, with a second crew arriving after completion of a job to assist with the work, to insure they would complete the job by the end of the day. Now, I have had workmen come to our home that I felt compelled to stay with every minute because they appeared to have been paroled two hours earlier; The Steam Team's employees were in uniform, clean-cut, polite to a fault, friendly and personable. They treated our possessions with the utmost care, being very careful with breakable items. They communicated what they were doing at every step, and didn't hesitate to ask questions if they were unsure of anything. I felt totally at ease with their being in our home. They got our carpet amazingly clean, even getting 99.9% of traffic pattern stains from entry to kitchen we've been trying to get up for years, then apologized for not being able to get up absolutely all of them; we were ecstatic with the results. They cleaned the entry tile last, as they were leaving, so as to not track anything on the carpet. They even hosed off the driveway where a few detergent suds had spilled. Our house was glowing after they left. These guys were amazing, and I would not hesitate to give them an overwhelming recommendation. My only regret is that I failed to write this review sooner - they really deserved better from us. The Steam Team rocks - hire them!!

We were moving into a foreclosed property and the floors were very dirty. The Steam Team was prompt, professional and did a GREAT job on both carpets and tile.

We made an appointment, they arrived on time, gave us a reasonable quote, did quality work and our capets were transformed into almost new. The carpet dried quickly. We could not be happier, and will use them again and recommend to friends.
