The estimator was very specific and came by the house at least 4 times to meet me and discuss estimate, color choice, review of work, and review of additional work after the initial review. The crew came and blasted the job out quick: cleaning one day, and painting another. The workmanship was good and the few concern spots and areas I was easily able to convey to the estimate over the phone and also at home at my convenience and were all quickly addressed before I paid a penny. Would use again.

+ 0 moreSouthern Painting was outstanding to work with. Very thorough with the explanation of every detail during the bid process. The spent a ton of time on prep (taping, draping) as there was almost no stray paint. Job was completed in 1.5 days without issue! They did such a good job, my neighbor used them the following week. I would use or recommend them in a heart beat. Not the cheapest in town but you often get what you pay for... these guys are experts, not day hires!

+ 0 moreCrew was professional and thorough in their preparation and clean-up. Aside from a two-day delay on actual start date, they kept their commitments re: schedules and timelines. We had a small issue with a gutter being bent by a painter's ladder, and Southern sent out a gutter repair company to replace the damaged section. Could not ask for more!
Description of Work: Full exterior and interior paint on 3700 s.f. house. Exterior is brick (so primarily trim) and interior has good portion that is open to 2nd story. We had an interior designer specify colors for us (~8-10 different shades) and they put everything where it was supposed to go.

+ -1 moreOverall, this was a great experience. Jeff came out to give me a quote and spent a lot of time answering all my questions (and I do mean A LOT of questions). He was very responsive and helped walk me through the color palette to choose a color that would complement my home and update the look. As far as scheduling, Jeff was great about pushing my job back as I wanted to get my new front door installed prior to painting. The door arrived, but was damaged and we had to send it back.

+ -1 moreExcellent. While they were more expensive than other bids, I could tell that it was immediately worth it. The estimator was extremely professional and timely and met all expectations. We had to request him to come back to look at a couple things and he was quick to respond to all questions. Very professional work and pleased with this group. Seems like they were in it for the long run, to build up a loyal customer base that would come back to them as well as ensure that they were satisfied enough to refer their friends. Will call on them again in the future as the need arises. Phil even helped my wife make sure and pick the right paint color options...while I was out of town, thanks Phil.
Description of Work: Contacted Southern Painting and some others to bid on painting the outside of my house. Had a 10 year old house and it was time to get the painting done, in addition to outside painting the estimator Phil Walsh suggested some other improvements to Chimney (ie..replace some of the wood that was decaying with Hardy (sp?) board) and we decided to do that work. Also removed some shutters off front and removed an old Satelite Dish and patched holes and sealed windows.

+ -1 moreVery well. Southern Painting found that more extensive repairs needed to be done so they recommended a non-affiliated contractor. This contractor (Cornerstone Contracting) did not do all that they were supposed to do so Southern Painting provided the rest of the repairs at no additional charge. I am very pleased with the quality of the work and would definitely use them again.

+ -1 moreI compared quotes and theirs was extremely competitive. I feel like I received a good price for the workmanship. They were thorough, explained everything. They gave me a detailed estimate for all the jobs I had, so I new the costs upfront. They were very professional. The painters were excellent and the work was done by hand. The foreman was doing what needed to be done and they were responsive to my requests. The owner even suggested some fiber board sealant. I upgraded to this based on his sample. They were here every step of the way, from the owner, salesman, foreman, to the crew. My front door now looks better than it did with the orignial stain. They cleaned up after themselves well, too.
Description of Work: They replaced the fascia board, and painted the trim work on the outside of the house. They also restained the wooden front door.

+ -1 moreThe job was delayed by weather and the rotted column problem. After an unusual rain storm, SP arrived to wash the house. The next day had more rain, so carpentry and painting had to wait until thing dried out. On the first day of painting work, the crew removed the rotted trim and replaced it with new wood or Hardie Board. The next day they started painting the primer and some of the spray work over the primer. The third day of painting went long, but they finished all the trim work, most of which was done by hand using brushes. My house is two-story and approximately 2400 sq ft. It is a mix of brick and siding. The front is about 90% brick, the sides about 50% brick, and the back is 100% siding. The two-tone paint scheme was adjusted only a few times as it was applied. The painting, especially the hand work, was impressive. The crew could paint straighter with a brush than I could with masking with blue tape and a spray can. Because more wooden trim was replaced than was bid, the price went up $190.00. In a way, that shows how tight Jeff's original bid was. On the other hand, my roofer had "surprise" costs built into his bid; i.e., he replaced two sheets of decking and some boards at no extra cost. The finished paint job is very impressive. It definitely raised my home's curb appeal. I would trust all my painting jobs to Southern Painting.
Description of Work: I recently had my house roofed. I was shopping for a company that would powerwash my house, repair rotted woodwork, and paint the house and trim. I found Southern Painting (SP) via Angie's List. My roofer knew of and recommended them. After obtaining a bid from Jeff Stec of SP, I was impressed with his knowledge and thoroughness. He recommended washing the whole house, priming it, then painting on a single coat of the top Sherman Williams paint. He spent about an hour just helping me decide on the color scheme since it was a two-tone paint job. I accepted his bid, even though other bids had been less because Jeff had found things that needed to be done that other painters had glossed over. Two sticking problems were rotten brick molding around my windows and rotted areas in the three 12" diameter wood columns on my front porch. He called in a carpenter to make recommendations. The carpenter recommended replacing the rotted wood brick molding with vinyl brick molding that was the same exact dimensions. He had no solution for the rotting in the columns. Eventually I had to repair the columns myself using wood restoration products from PC Products. I bought them through the Home Depot web site. After the columns were restored and properly ventilated, SP arrived to wash the house. Before they started, Jeff delivered Liability Waiver forms signed by each crew member since his crews are subcontractors and he doesn't provide any insurance coverage for on the job injury. They powerwashed all painted surfaces, my brickwork, and my deck's surface. They replaced all rotted brick molding with vinyl. They replaced all rotted trim with new lumber and where appropriate, Hardie Board. More trim was replaced than was bid since additional rotted boards were found on the chimney. The trim replacement was followed by caulking all gaps and then priming all places to be painted. After the primer dried, they put on one coat of Sherman Williams top coat using either spray gun or hand brushing depending on the surface and color. After painting, the crew cleaned up all evidence that they had been there.

+ 1 moreHenry Johnson, the sales manager, responded quickly to come out to make an estimate and then answered my questions about the bid on a Saturday morning. I accepted their bid and they had an opening to start within two days. The first day the crew headed by Jose, actually chopped down some large plants in the way even though that was not their responsibility. They had the carpentry skills to replace all of the rotten wood. They pressure washed, then caulked and then painted for a day and a half. They arrived on time and left around 7 at night. The did a pretty good job of picking up after themselves and went the extra mile to come back and paint the front door again.
Description of Work: I had them paint the soffits and fascia boards around the entire house, the siding on the back half of the house and all of the doors including the garage door. I have brick on the front of the house, which is painted, but they did not paint the brick.

His price was a little higher than some but the attention to detail included in the estimate, along with the great communication swung the vote in his favor; I have no regrets. He was very easy to communicate with (the house is an investment property in Austin and I live in California) and even helped me pick colors. The crew did a great job. I've since received several comments on it. There was even a piece we had questions about, Jeff went back out to check it out, painted another layer on it and sent me pics of all the work. I would use this company again.

+ 0 moreJeff, the supervisor, was hostile when I called because I discovered my water had been turned off. I had to call the city to turn the water back on, which Jeff said he would pay for if I was charged. The siding that was cut was only removed half way, and I am concerned that there is more pipe damage behind the rest of the siding beyond the point that was exposed for inspection by a plumber. They completed the job when I was not home, so I have no way of knowing if there was any supervision, or if they even attempted to check for further damage. Also, he gave me a choice of 2 colors for the paint, and got quite upset when I questioned if the color was the right choice. He didn't seem to be concerned with inquiring about what I wanted. I don't feel like the plumbing issue has been resolved.
Description of Work: I hired Southern Painting to do siding repairs and repaint the exterior. One of the workman cut the siding that needed to be repaired, and damaged pipes behind it in the process. He used electrical tape for a temporary fix, and turned the water off at the street until he sauntered the pipe.

+ -1 moreI am satisfied with their work but not thrilled. I am a perfectionist so when I looked at what they did, I noticed a few small areas where they painted on the brick. Also we had a problem and we asked them if they were able to fix it and they said yes. It turned out they were not able to fix it so they gave us a referral of someone who could. I also noticed a small area of Limestone that was chipped and I was not informed of it and it was not like that before. It would not be a problem if I could have been told it had to be done from a ladder. They are not the cheapest around but are reasonable. The job looks ok overall.
Description of Work: I have a 4500 square foot brick home and Southern Painting painted all of the trimming on the exterior of my house.
