I had a pretty good experience with this company from start to finish. They were actually recommended by another insulation company who did not have all the materials to do what proved to be a rather complicated insulation job. Our recently purchased 1950's house has a converted attic with knee-walls upstairs (provides no backing to support most insulation systems). Some walls were partially open due to a complete new re-wire. (I left wire-runs exposed to avoid possible drilling into cables.) Payless insulation was able to devise an insulation system that would work within these constraints. Payless thoroughly vacuumed out old insulation (matted and dirty from rodents which had, at some point in history, taken up residence in the crawl spaces) prior to blowing in the new Cel-bar. The improvement to the house temperature was quite noticeable the following day. (Upstairs results were less noticeable, but that is likely in part due to old single-pane windows which we have not yet replaced.) I realize I will probably find I need better ventilation in attic spaces as well as new windows to appreciate the full effect of insulation. Towards the end of the job, I did get the impression that the crew was rushing to finish up so as not to have to return a second day (as initially scheduled). There were a couple of very minor oversights -- negligible for the size of the job. But when I discovered a real concern a couple days after the job (attic insulation was blown up and covering the only attic ventilation -- two small gable vents -- in a very tight, and no longer accessible space) a member of the crew returned to address it (which needed to be done from outside on a very tall ladder!) He spent a fair amount of time insuring that all was right. I am happy with the final results. Everyone working with Payless Insulation was professional, gracious, caring, and took the time to ensure that I was 100% satisfied with the final outcome. This was a complicated installation, and they did a good job. UPDATE: I am lowering the grade to a "B" based on some subsequent observations. I had expressed concern that there was no blocking between floor joists where they ran into the uninsulated crawl-space. I was concerned that settling of blown-in insulation in the un-conditioned crawl space might permit unconditioned air to flow between floors of house. While Payless insisted there would be no settling, this has in fact occurred (either that or nowhere near enough insulation was initially installed). Furthermore, a representative from my A.C. company recently explained that the install was regardless inadequate without some form of vapor barrier -- the insulation is only like a "cigarette filter" without a barrier -- and that convection currents would regardless cause air exchange between the insulated and non-insulated spaces. I am a little disappointed to find that my expensive insulation is not functioning as it could/should.
Description of Work: Vacuumed out old mineral wool and glass fiber insulation in crawl space. added Cel-bar blown-in insulation in attic, crawlspaces, and downstairs walls. Job required some webbing (support) where walls were still open due to new wiring job. Denim batting was applied behind knee-walls upstairs. A rather extensive job for a small house.

My attic is very hard to get around in, at at the far corner I could see there wasn't very much blown-in insulation at all. The room underneath that area was always hotter or colder than the rest of the house. I explained that to the estimator and when the guys showed up to do the work, the estimator had already told them about my concern! They said they'd be sure to bring that area up to the right depth, and they did. They came on time and did a great job at a good price. The difference in my house was great too!
Description of Work: Payless Insulation added more blown-in insulation to my attic, and more sidewall insulation where the walls of my vaulted living room come up into the attic.

Very very helpful.
Description of Work: Purchasing a new house in Dallas and my inspector noted that an east-facing external wall (which contained a fireplace) needed insulation. The sellers flat refused to pay for it, saying that it was unsafe to insulate. After checking the Angie's List's review, I called Neil and asked for his opinion. I was very clear that the house was in Dallas and wouldn't actually be hiring Neil. He never wavered in his professionalism, spending quite bit of time explaining how one safely insulates these areas and offered to research some good companies for me in Dallas. Thanks, Payless!

I found 2 firms on Angie's List. I contacted both by email. Casey at Payless called the next morning. I corresponded with the other firm by email. Casey made an appointment, came out, measured, and actually climbed in the attic. It took her a day or so to get back with the proposal, with numerous options for both cellulose and fiberglass. The other firm used HCAD information and prepared a quote for fiberglass only which was emailed to me. I have not heard from them again.Payless was not the cheaper quote.Casey called, also returned my calls, and answered questions.Yesterday, we scheduled the appointment and 2 very professional men showed up this morning before 8 and got right to work. I had already cleared the way in the attic but had a few things I paid the guys extra to move out of the attic and carry off. They taped plastic over all the carpet, sealed the attic openings, and covered the things I left in the attic. It was more than a half day job and it is hot. They took a break or 2 which was fine with me. I offered them water numerous times. When they were through, they invited me to climb in the attic and see their work. Unfortunately, they covered some of the attic flooring, but they were very gracious in uncovering it. It was actually pretty up there, smoothed very level, very nice job. They cleaned everything up, nothing left to indicate they had even been here.I am very very happy.Oh, and I should say we can already tell a difference in the house!!!!
Description of Work: We had cellulose insulation blown in our very under insulated attic.

We have a 90 year old house. We remodeled and added on to the house, and always noticed a difference between the new portion and the old portion of our home. We'd put in a new HVAC unit, and insulated the attic, as well as the "norm" insulation in the addition, but there was still a difference. We noticed that our neighbors used Payless and had asked them what they were doing, and how it was going to help their insulation problems. After speaking to them, and then calling Payless, we decided that we'd give it a try. We can't afford to replace the windows in the old portion of the home yet, and are constantly looking for ways to increase our energy savings and efficiency. Let me tell you, one of the smartest moves we've made! The difference between what we used to feel when walking or sleeping in one portion of the house is no longer there. You can feel the same temperature when you walk through the house, when you couldn't before. It is DEFINITELY worth it, to have them come out and give you an estimate, and get this done to your home if you live in an older home.
Description of Work: We had insulation "sprayed" in between the ship lap of our home. This meant that Payless had to drill holes through the brick/mortar, and into the the shiplap. Then they used this machine that pushed the loose fill insulation into the empty space between the shiplap.

It went very well. They arrived on time and finished the job in the five hours they estimated. They put down plastic to cover floors and cleaned up when they finished. A very professional job.
Description of Work: Added blow in insulation in attic and replaced knee wall batted insulaton. They did an excellent job on both.

We just bought an older house in Austin and the inspector recommended adding insulation in the attic. The gentleman from Payless gave me an estimate and was very helpful in suggesting other ways to make the house more energy efficient. He was very helpful in explaining the City of Austin's rebate program. The crew came out on time and completed the work. We were very pleased with the service provided and will not hesitate to call them again if we need them.
Description of Work: 7.3 inches of attic insulation added.
