Awesome! Stephy the lady on the phone was friendly, honest, had great follow-though skills, and was very up front about all their costs. While the home estimate was canceled, it made me super nervous as my last move with a canceled estimate cost me a great deal of cash (3 times more than the estimate on the phone). Northstar (Stephy) promised professionalism and they delivered. Northstar showed up 10 minutes early and the guys hustled. My move was completed in 5 hours. I had more stuff to move this time and Northstar moved me in half the time the other moving company did (see my other reviews). The movers were young, strong, great attitudes, friendly, and just all around awesome. Since it was lunch time and we were getting sandwiches, we bought them some as well. They didn't even take the time to eat, they threw the sandwiches in the truck for when they were finished working as they didn't want to charge me for their lunch. They helped me move an old appliance out of the house to get the new ones in. They went above and beyond my expectations. To top it all off, a week after the move I receive a thank-you card from Stephy for using Northstar welcoming me to my new home. What a nice touch. Hopefully I won't be moving again, but if I do, Northstar will be the only company I call. I will definitely be telling my friends about what a great experience I had.

They marked up the price minus the $99.00 deal. There hourly rate was $140.00 an hour and is extremely higher than any other moving company I spoke with, which is on average $70.00 an hour for two guys. They were not flexible, we told them we only needed 2 movers and they stated they were sending 3. We needed them for a move for a 2 bedroom apartment (600 sq. ft. apartment). They quoted $500 extra for the move + $99.00 for the Big Deal I purchased with them. I found another moving company that is doing the move for $325.00 for 5 hours (mileage, packaging, 2 movers, and truck included). Not saying that they wouldn't do a good job, it's just that the pricing is way to high relative to the market. It's a price issue with me. They were also inflexible and did not take my needs into account as the consumer.

I called to arrange for an estimator to come out & an appointment was made. Later that day I was informed that we needed to reschedule due to the estimator's calendar, which we did. A couple days later I got another call, a voicemail, saying the estimator needed to reschedule again. When I called "Jason" back, the same day, no one answered and I left a message to call with the new time. A couple days later when Northstar finally got back to me, I had already arranged with a different mover. So I never got an appointment, although two had been scheduled & cancelled by the company. Now that I think about it, my "C" rating may be a little high! :)
Description of Work: No services performed, except for the attempted scheduling of an estimator's visit.

If it was not for Alice and Adam at the NorthStar headquarters, this move would have been a disaster. Alice K provided exceptional customer service, and ALWAYS understood the problem and would connect me with an individual that could assist me in fixing it. Adam was also very helpful as the dispatcher. He understood that it was about ME, not the company and that I would not stand for the issues that were taking place. As you can tell from above, the move went relative smoothly, the company lived up to their word and didn't try to force any additional charges on us, they were extremely diligent in wrapping & protecting all our items no mater of what value, and their whole operation was well orchestrated throughout the entire move. They were punctual, courteous, and well-intentioned through the whole process. We sustained only minor damage in all that was moved and were pleased with the outcome.
Description of Work: This was our first move in many years and though the price astounded us, it appeared to be the going rate. We were moving from the Los Angeles area to the San Luis Obispo area. We had already taken many items ourselves that we could transport and left mainly furniture, appliances, and other larger type items for the movers to transport for us. We received a thorough estimate from Barak Cohen and were pleased by it's detail and organization. We signed for the move and the contract was a "flat rate" contract in which the company said they would only charge us that rate and there would be no additional charges. They lived up to that agreement & allowed us to substitute items as we saw fit until the truck was full. We received two bids, the first for a two day move, one truck. That bid only included the items we specified that we wanted moved. The second bid was for a two day move, two trucks and would include many of the items we thought we could move later ourselves. The difference was a little over $1,000. We elected the two day move, one truck. The night before the move we received a call from the company confirming our move, the price for two trucks, two days (which we had not agreed to). We told the dispatcher that we had told Mr Cohen that we only wanted the two day- one truck move & rate. He said he would have Mr Cohen contact us that evening. We also told him that Mr Cohen agreed to have his trucks pick up some furniture we had at a storage facility first before they came to the house for the rest of the furniture. However, we never received a call back from Mr Cohen that night before the move and he didn't return my cell call to him that evening regarding the move, and sure enough, on moving day two trucks showed up at our house, not the one truck at the storage facility as agreed. I immediately had to stop all activity until we had a chance to make sure both the moving company & we were on the same page. In fact, the moving crew even called Mr Cohen & couldn't get through to him. Finally, Mr Cohen called me, apologized for the mix-up, said he was having phone problems, and said he recalled our agreement and instructed his men that this was a two truck, one day move beginning at the storage facility. We all then had to drive to the storage facility to pick up the furniture there, then return to our home to load the remaining furniture. Once everything was ironed out, the move began to progress in a well organized fashion. One glitch was that we had a couple of very fine antique furniture pieces that I had told Mr Cohen about when he was estimating the cost of our move, and on the moving day the head of the crew, Oscar, we taking the best piece apart with a cordless drill which I felt should not have been done in the first place and that it was being done in a manner that could easily be detrimental to furniture that was about 200 years old. I anxiously asked Oscar what he was doing, he explained that he was disassembling the piece to make it easier to move, & I explained that I felt this was no way to treat a fine antique piece. He stopped immediately until we could again contact Mr Cohen who again apologized and called Oscar himself & explained our concern & that we only wanted them to use manual tools in the disassembly and reassembly. They complied and did a fine job in wrapping and taping all our items. But it was apparent to us that what we had discussed with Mr Cohen while he was estimating our move was never communicated to his crew. This was the downside of the whole move. Other than that, everything was well wrapped and cared for. We only sustained a minor dent to our refrigerator door that we are aware of. The crew of Oscar, Ernesto, Emilio, and a 4th man were all very careful, respectful, & honest with all our items. Oscar was especially resourceful in moving a sand-based basketball hoop system that our kids had used when growing up. We felt that the items were packed well both for their protection and for maximizing the amount of items we could get on the truck. The crew then took the items to their storage facility in Chatsworth for the night & then early the next morning drove the items up to our new home. They, 3 of the same 4 who had loaded the truck, arrived on time, even a little early, and began unloading in a very organized and efficient manner. They were neat and clean, all were respectful of our wishes and eager to please, and the unloading went well. They hooked up the washer & dryer and the refrigerator's ice maker, got the cables in place for the entertainment center (we were moving the TV at a later date ourselves), and basically were very thorough in all that they did. They were always concerned where we wanted the items placed and even help adjust the placement when what we wanted wasn't just right. The antique furniture was reassembled by hand and Oscar was very careful not to damage the existing holes & screws and was concerned that the hinges & doors worked properly when reassembled. All in all, we felt this company and crew did an excellent job and other than the lack of communication at first, were very efficient, careful, and easy to deal with. The final bill was just as represented, except that they requested half of the payment at the end of the first day even though the contract indicated that the total was due on completion. We paid the full amount in one payment at the end of the move & everything was fine.

I spent a lot of time with me over the phone going over my inventory for the move. At the end of the call they said they would contact me back for a date the end of August. I never ended up hearing back from them. I was not pleased with having to spend 45 minutes on the phone with them and then never heard anything. I do not understand why they could not follow up with me.

I though it odd that I was asked several times if the mover's truck would fit on the street of the delivery address. Now I may have this all wrong, but I hired Northstar assuming their drivers knew these kinds of things, or at least where to look for the information. I have never driven an 18 wheel truck in my life. Why they thought I should know the answer to this question, which 3 different people asked me, is a mystery to me. As it turned out, the truck was too big and we were charged for the rental of a smaller truck. But with the $100 coupon and the $50 penalty they paid for being one day late, it all balanced out. They were very responsive to our phone calls and everything made it, unbroken. The only complaint is that the crew who picked up the items at my home had filthy shoes. Carpet needs a deep cleaning. So in future, I would check their shoes before starting in. But they were courteous and efficient on both ends of the shipment.

We successfully help 5,500 – 7,000 clients each year to navigate their way to their new home and anytime we get to also hear about it afterwards makes us happy!. Moving 5,500 – 7,000 clients each year on average also means that there are some things that we, unfortunately, cannot do, such as inspect every picks up and delivery address for access. We do try. We know for example, that if you move to Manhattan, most likely you will need a shuttle as a big semi-trailer truck cannot enter that area. We know that if you moved to the Hollywood Hills there is a big chance that even a regular 28’ truck will not fit. We know many areas, big and small, famous and less known from past experience, but we cannot know them all. We check maps, send a crew to the area in advance when possible, and advise our clients to check for themselves, either by eying the place or by calling city hall or other places when we think there may be a need. But it really is impossible to go out in person and check thousands of locations. We do our best to let you know of the possibility in advance, and if the need arises, we have a skilled team of our Operations Department in the office and our Moving Teams Members in the field who know what to do and act swiftly and professionally to get things moving and not have the move grind to a halt, which is a possibility when unprepared. Any additional charges for a shuttle adhere to the Department of Transportation (DOT) guidelines and cover our additional cost. I called for an estimate and the next day a Northstar employee arranged to meet a friend of mine at the storage facility in LA to provide me with an estimate. It took a couple of days to work out the details as I was already in Colorado and my furniture was in LA, but the Northstar rep worked with me to pin down details, such as possible difficulties accessing my condo with a huge truck. A few days later, the movers went to my storage facility, wrapped up my furniture and I was given a 10 day window for delivery. After about 4 days, I received a call from Northstar, telling me the truck should arrive in the next 48hrs. Apparently there was a mix up here as the driver was still another 3 days away. I did get a call from the driver giving me 24 hrs notice, then another call about 2 yrs before arrival. Four men unloaded the truck and moved in my possessions in about 3-4 hrs. Everything was delivered in good condition. I was given very good service at a good price.

We had a very good experience with Northstar. They were ready for our move ahead of schedule but that ended up being okay for us. Three small items were damaged but they made good on it. The company is extremely responsive. The movers were totally professional and very nice.
Description of Work: Northstar packed and moved our belongings (furniture, bedding, dishes etc.)from Seattle to San Francisco. Some items were already boxed. Some were packed by Northstar.

Frye was sub-contracted to pack and move out things to the Vegas/Henderson area. The packers did a good job. They were professional and fast but not very knowledgeable on the paperwork for your valuable items that were shipped. For the most part everything was intact with the exception of my antique 5 gallon crock. We were told our belongings would be delivered around the 7-8th of July which was ok but then we get a phone call saying that our belonging were already there and we hadn't even left IL yet. How can you accept a delivery if you're not there and they know you're not there yet? This little development cost us approximately an extra $500 for storage which we were not happy about. I think they should have been responsible for having to put it in storage because it was because of them getting here early that it had to be put in storage.

They arrived on 8th July as planned and took 2 1/2 hours to load all boxes. The guys were professional. They wrapped furniture securely and boxed all loose items in big boxes. After loading everything into the truck, they told us someone is going to call us about the weight in 24 hours. They never did. We had to follow up with them to know the weight. Price is based on weight. They were supposed to deliver them by 17th. But delivered on 19th. Since it is 2 days after the estimated delivery date, they gave us a discount for 3 days. Unloading all boxes took about 2 hours. They were professional and hard working people. We noticed that one book shelf is broken. We were told to claim it from the company. We haven't done that yet. Apart from that, everything arrived safe and secure. We are not happy when responsiveness is concerned. Otherwise, We are really satisfied with the move. Don't know if we ever will do another big move. If we do, we will seriously consider this company again.

They never did complete the estimate I asked them for.
Description of Work: I called Northstar Moving for an estimate on my move from Phoenix to Las Vegas. I called them because they had an A rating on Angie's List. They took a long time to let me know that they would not come out to my home because they were located in California. They would send me a list over the internet for me to fill out and they would give me an estimate that way. Very unprofessional in my opinion. After a number of days I did receive the list and filled it out. I never received an estimate.

I contacted this company by email with a detailed explanation of what I needed to accomplish and the timeline. I wanted to move furniture and other items (about a 1-bedroom apartment's worth) from San Antonio, TX to Miami, FL. Within a day I received an email requesting additional information - which I answered immediately. After not hearing back for a couple of days, I sent another email requesting a response to the earlier email. I never heard from them again, neither by email or phone.
Description of Work: I contacted this company by email regarding the move of furniture ( approximately a 1-bedroom apartment) from San Antonio to Miami. They responded requesting additional information, which I sent immediately, but then I never received a response after that.

They arrived exactly on time, at the earliest part of the window (8am!). Eric, Jose and Jorge jumped right in and started loading the truck. They were very professional and polite, and very careful with all our stuff. The entire move took all day, as expected, with a break for lunch before they began unloading at our new house. It was a pretty straightforward move. They communicated with us well throughout the day and did a great job overall.

Excellent. I do not have one single complaint about the company and the quality of the service I received. I would definitely use them again for a long-distance move.
Description of Work: I contacted Northstar to move a small load of furniture from my mother's estate to Oklahoma. They responded promptly to my request for information, were very polite and easy to deal with, and provided excellent service. The two movers, Sean and Ed, were very pleasant and professional and showed great concern for my mother's possessions--many of them antiques, including a grandfather clock. They carefully inventoried each item and packed the large paintings well. My sister reported that the furniture arrived in excellent condition and that again, the movers were very nice and helpful. I would highly recommend Northstar.

They were prompt and affordable. They did a great job of moving. They charged me about $850 for our stuff and the moving distance. It was a local move. We did all the packing and they did the loading as well as the moving. They were definitely responsive and provided quality. We were really happy with the service they provided. I would definitely use their services in the future too.

They were fabulous and did a great job. We had used them to move us into our apartment some time ago because we were remodeling our house, and now they moved us back into our house. They stored the bulk of our belongings for over a year, and when we brought it back out of storage, it was all immaculate; nothing was broken, and it was all clean and in excellent condition. I had gotten estimates from two other companies, and their price was excellent. The quality of the work was exceptional; their guys really hustle. I would rate them highly and would use them again in the future if necessary.

I obtained their phone number on Angie's List and called to get an estimate on a move from Colorado to Kansas since they are listed as a long distance mover. The number is an 1-800 number and shows it is in Denver. Unfortunately, they cannot make an in home estimate anywhere but California as they make moves from California to places such as NYC (per the woman that answered the phone). Just a note, estimates are not legally binding unless the company comes to your home to visually look at what you are moving. She suggested I get an estimate from another company to get the correct weight and then call them back in order for them to give an estimate on that weight and to see if they may be passing through. So the point is, if you live in the Denver area and are moving out of state, I wouldn't bother with this company.

The management responded to my inquiry very quickly and was very professional and courteous, however they were unable to help me with my request. The company doesn't provide services to the Washington DC area since they only have limited out of state service. Additionally, they referred me to a non-BBB certified company to help me, which I did not use.
