Jancinto Alvarez and his crew were an example of the absolute best that a professional moving service can offer. They arrived promptly at 8 am, and were hardworking, thorough, and knowledgeable. They covered and protected our furniture like it was headed across country, although we were only going across town. Every furniture item that had to be taken apart was put back together immediately upon arrival at our new place, and in the case of one bed, it was constructed better than it had been before! Our dishes, crystal, televisions, mirrors and wall art were all given the same thoughtful, detailed treatment. They packed all the wardrobe boxes, and had them unpacked and the clothing hung in their new closets in nearly the blink of an eye. They were quick and efficient about removing empty boxes and discarded packing materials. I have moved fourteen times in my adult life, and can attest to this crew being at the top of their game. They made a hard experience infinitely easier for my family, and so I can't recommend them highly enough! Great jobs, guys!

The items we needed moved were going to require more time than the Big Deal covered, the rate of which wasn't included in the Big Deal description. The company stated that we had to purchase a minimum of four extra hours and I felt that this was misleading. Had this been indicated in the terms of the Big Deal, I wouldn't have purchased the coupon in the first place.

6/26/2014I used the Angie's list deal ($50 for $150) to hire movers from Northstar. The move took about half a day (~4-5 hours). I had to be out of town so my wife handled most of the transaction. She said everything went smoothly, but didn't feel like everyone was as fast as the previous time we had used Northstar. When we used them once before, they were cheaper for moving the same amount of stuff a longer distance. Not alot, maybe $100 cheaper. Charged me $75 for tape, plastic wrap, and things used during the move. I might use them again, but would look around for a cheaper service first before committing. 7/15/2014 - It's been about three weeks since my move and I just got a call from their number, but they didn't leave a message. I hate when people/companies do this. If the issue was important enough to call, it was important enough to leave a message. That strikes me as unprofessional and annoying.

They have great customer service on the phone, we changed our move date last minute and they were able to accommodate us, which was great. They showed up within the window and got right to work. My only issue with them is when moving my things into the new house, they banged up a wall or two. Also, when they put our bed together, they didn't have the screws (because they left them at the old house) so they just kind of throw it together without letting us know the screws were missing. Overall, the guys were very nice and professional. I would consider using them again if we needed to.

Went great- very professional and wrapped all furniture in towels and blankets... Took great care of all of furniture. Great work!

Everything about the service was flawless. This company lives up to all of its wonderful reviews on Angie's List. They came to my house and gave me an estimate which was extremely detailed. They give a "not-to-exceed" estimate, so I knew that my cost wouldn't exceed that price. The estimate was $3500. The estimate seemed a little high, but I chose this company because of their reputation. I packed everything myself and was VERY prepared for the move. Consequently, on the day of the move, everything went more quickly than we had thought and the cost went down as a result. The final cost was just over $2000. What a wonderful surprise. I would recommend NorthStar Moving to anyone. All six of the guys who did the move were completely professional and I have never seen a group work so hard. Moving is stressful, but NorthStar made it a breeze!

The group were punctual, very nice, and worked even faster than described. Nothing was damaged. The cost was less than I expected.

The guys with Northstar moving were wonderful. They showed up right at the beginning of the time-slot we were given and got to work right away. They had moved ALL of our furniture out of the house in an hour! The guys were professional, careful, and friendly. I would recommend them to anyone looking for a seamless move. I would hire them again in a minute!

I contacted North Star Moving (and a few other companies) about helping me move cross country. I then saw the "Big Deal", purchased it, and called North Star to book them for my move (I mentioned I had the coupon from Angie's list). Later on that day I received an email from North Star with a "$100 off your move" coupon. I read the fine print and neither coupon can be used with "other offers", so I contacted you about refunding the $50 I spent on the Big Deal. I might as well take the free coupon, right?

I contacted Northstar after reading their reviews on Angie's list. I also obtained two other competitive quotes. Northstar provided the best value and the most flexibility. Since I didn't have my destination location fixed at the time of the quote, I needed someone to be able to provide some flexibility about the delivery date and destination logistics. They arrived to pick up my belongings on time and were very efficient. They sent 3 guys to pack up a one-bedroom condo's worth of furniture and boxes. I did not use their packing services and I purchased my own moving insurance separately. They were done in about 2.5 hours. Although the initial delivery window was quite large (4 weeks). As the time got nearer, Northstar updated me with a narrower window. The week of the move, they pinned down the time and I was talking directly to the driver. On delivery day, there were two guys to deliver my things. It was lightly raining and the logistics were a bit tricky. I moved into downtown Portland, ME, on the 7th floor of a large apartment building. The entry to the parking lot would not accomodate the truck, so they needed to park on the street and cart items to the back entrance, then to the elevator and up to my apartment. The guys were very polite and did not grumble at all about the difficulties. For the most part, my items were in good condition. Nothing was missing or broken and there were only a few bumps and scratches. The boxes and containers were pretty beat up though, and it looked like things were piled up pretty high on the truck given the squashed condition of many of the boxes. Overall, I was pleased with Northstar.

I have booked Northstar twice in the past year. They are on time, professional, courteous and pay terrific attention to detail. Who knew shrink wrap had so many wonderful applications! I would highly recommend them and book them again.

Went well. They took good care of everything and supplied everything to protect the furniture.

There were complicated directions to rear of apartment building to load furniture. The day before the move I faxed a map, photo and directions to North Star, but they did not give the info to the driver. As a result, we wasted 45 minutes trying to locate the truck and get it to the right place. To their credit, they did not charge us for the delay time. The crew, led by Dave Ledesman, could not have been nicer and worked very quickly. Dave was careful to explain what they were doing at every step. They packed clothes, furniture, art and dishes and glassware very efficiently. The only glitch was an antique mirror which I told them was very fragile. They convinced me that it would be safe without being packed in a box, but just sandwiched between two folded flat boxes. During the 5-mile drive to the storage unit, some of the decorative pieces fell off the mirror and broke. It can be repaired, but it will not be the same. I take some responsibility for letting them talk me into the poor packing, but they should have known better. Since they were more than fair about their time (did not take a lunch break for more than 7-hour job) I did not file a complaint. They did a great job of organizing the furniture into a 10X15 storage unit with room to spare. All in all, a very nice three-man crew and a good job. UPDATE: After reading my review North Star called me and asked me to submit a claim for the damaged mirror and e-mailed me a claim form. Amazing service! I will get an estimate for the repairs and submit it. They also pointed out that their faxes do not arrive at a fax machine in their office, but go into a fax queue on their computer system, so if you are going to fax something, you need to call and alert them to go into the computer and retrieve it...that is why the info never got to the driver. I thought their follow up on these two situations was fantastic.

After living in our Westminster, CA home for 35 years, we sold it and moved north to Rocklin, CA (northeast of Sacramento). After hearing all of the horror stories associated with various other moving companies, we consulted Angie's List and found the highly rated Northstar Company. We gave them a call, and they sent out a a fellow to give us an estimate. Although the quoted price seemd high to us at that time, we had to take into consideration that we had lived in our home for 35 years, and had accumulated a lot of stuff. Plus, all of our other moves (more than 35 years ago) had been accomplished by ourselves. B I G difference. Anyway, we decide to use Northstar. The movers they sent (Jacinto, Joshep, Mattew, and Issic M) were absolutely amazing!! They arrived on time (9:30 a.m.) and immediately went to work wrapping all of our furniture and loading it onto the truck We had a large number of already packed boxes, PLUS at lot of stuff from our 2-car garage. After seeing these fellows in action, it became quite clear that there is NO WAY we could have accomplished this kind of a move ourselves (we are over 65). These fellows are professionally-trained movers--and it showed. It was incredible how efficiently they packed the truck--made every inch of space count. They finished at 5:30 p.m. Since we were moving 500 miles north, and had not yet purchased a new home, we had to rent a storage unit to store our belongings for the time being. Northstar arrived on time at the storage unit, and the 3-man team was again headed by Jacinto. Amazingly, they unloaded the contents of the truck into our storage unit in less than 2 hours--and made everything fit into a 10 x 25 unit. Amazing! We just bought a new home,and will be ready to move in to it in about 3 weeks. Of course, we will be contacting Northstar again to facilitate this move. We HIGHLY RECOMMEND Northstar to anyone and everyone who needs outstanding, professionally-trained, and polite movers! Thanks Northstar and Angie's List! You both rock!!

Movers (4) arrived promptly as scheduled. They moved boxes and furniture from garage into their truck. They shrank wrapped living and bed room furniture and loaded them onto truck. Upon arrival in Oceanside, they moved boxes and furniture into the garage and house and assembled dining room table and bed room beds. They were careful and professional. They also accommodated transporting a couple of large plants in pots that weren't originally listed.

Ryan and the crew arrived on time - actually, 10 minutes before the accorded time, which was great. They packed up and moved all our stuff out of our condo and into our new home quickly, neatly, and efficiently. They made what would have otherwise been a major stress, into an easy experience. I would recommend them and will hire them again in the future.

It went well overall. The leader of the group was fantastic. He was enthusiastic, organized, motivated and strong and kept every one else on point. They were a group of about 5 men that did the entire move. By the end of the move, I would say one of the five men showed signs of being tired and became a little clumsy with lifting and placing heavy furniture but oerv all they were pretty good. They were at out home early, which we liked. Once they started the job, they moved quickly so it helps to have everything that's boxed ready to go and stuff that needs boxing to be in another area (out of the way so they're not slowed down).

They were great and I was glad that they use biodiesel trucks.

Josue, Julio and Sergio were wonderful and very quick... we couldn't even keep up with them. I would highly recommend them for anyone moving. Very professional and helpful with everything we needed! Thank you! They even took furniture that we didn't want and disposed of it (for an extra fee).
