I cannot say enough good things about these guys! Their customer service rep, Stefy, was an absolute pleasure to work with and spent lots of time on the phone and via email answering all my questions. On the day of the move they (3 movers) showed up right on time and wasted absolutely no time getting down to business. They were extremely efficient - despite the fact that they were paid by the hour. They treated our belongings with respect; absolutely nothing got damaged which has not been my experience with other movers in the past. They just seemed like really nice people and extremely professional. I would hire them again in an instant.

When my landlord agreed to paint and re-carpet my one bedroom apartment? I was both thrilled and yet filled with dread at the prospect of moving the contents my apartment into storage. It took weeks of preparation to pack everything and I soon realized that I could not do this job on my own. I considered any number of options, but when a friend referred me NorthStar Moving I decided gave them a call to get a quote. I was really surprised at how reasonable their rates where?the customer service I received over the phone was great and they were very upfront about everything. When the movers arrived on both occasions they were very friendly and genuinely wanted to do a good job. They worked quickly, but treated my furniture and belongings with care and completed the job in the allotted time. I am very pleased with my experience and I would use them again and will refer them to friends and family.

The Northstar crew was great. They moved my girlfriend's and my two apartments into a new unit. They gave me a 6 hour window (noon to 6:00). They called, giving me a 1 hour heads up, and showed up promptly at 2:30. They were friendly and professional. They moved quickly but took care not to damage our possessions or the property. It took them roughly 5 hours to do the whole move. I highly recommend.

This is our second time using Northstar Movers and they did not disappoint! The movers arrived on time and despite 100 degree temperatures were very polite and professional in their work. We had a minor mishap with some damage to a glass shelf but these things happen and is currently being resolved with their customer service department. All in all, these guys are still the best moving company I've worked with and will use them again.

They were on time, VERY Fast, Organized, Helpful. Only downside: To minimize our cost they filled each box (no matter what size) to the top. This resulted in some overlap of the box being filled from different areas of the same room, or from different rooms. It resulted in a colossal "where is the rest of this?'' syndrome.

NothStar picked up our belongings and moved them to New Mexico in a timely manner even through they experienced an unfortunate mechanical failure in route. The driver acting on his own called us and told us of the mechanical breakdown 50 miles short of oour new home. He thought he could get his repairs completed by the next morning and asked if we would accept a one day delay in delivery. We told him yes but a few hours later he called back and said the repairs were going to take longer than expected. To make good NorthStar's promise to deliver our goods in a timely manner the driver hired a local New Mexico firm to unload our belongings on to their truck and make the delivery. The driver rode with the new company and supervised the delivery. Many companies can do an acceptable job when conditions are perfect. I believe that NorthStar's performance in a difficult situation demonstrates that they are a superior vendor and I will use them again if I need to make another move.

Description of Work: The men (David and Alphonso) who packed up my home in San Antonio, Texas were exceptional and professional. They packed the heavy furniture and all personal items meticulously with care. Our furniture was new and heavy our personal items were fragile. We did not find anything broken. They worked diligently at a steady pace without taking a break. I had to insist they take a short break to at least eat. I requested they be the same ones to unpack me because I did not believe I would meet movers with their work ethic again. When I was informed the furniture was ready to be delivered, I was surprised to hear that another crew would be delivering the furniture. To my surprise, Northstar Moving Company sent three men including a Company Foreman. The foreman was Richard. All three of those guys were just as diligent. They worked meticulously with heavy beautiful furniture. Without any mishaps they delivered and set the furniture back up. Great job.

The crew of 3 men came at 8:30 and left at late afternoon with big smiles even though they were carrying big pieces of furnitures. They were polite, efficient, and smart in their organization. They were aware of the estimates and reminded themselves to stay within the time limit. I would use them again and would recommend them to my friends. There was little damage on the doorway by the big dryer and washer, which could have prevented with some padding. But it wasn't a big deal Overall a great job and a great group of guys.

I decided to use a vacation day from work booked with Northstar on a non-peak day, a thursday, in order to avoid a higher hourly rate. I got three movers and a large moving truck. I had the vast majority of my possessions pre-packed into boxes in bins. The apartment I was moving out of was about 2 flights of stairs, and the apartment I moved into was on the 3rd story, but had an elevator. We started off with the paperwork and the guys got moving. A few hours in I realized I had pretty drastically underestimated how much time and money the move was going to take at this pace. I had acquired a couple pieces of furniture and some other stuff in the 3 years I had lived in this apartment, but I had moved into it from 15 miles away with two movers, myself, and a cargo van, in about 8 hours total. that move was done for a flat rate, and this time I got to witness how movers move when they are paid hourly. It's not so much that the northstar guys moved slowly, but there was an unreasonably large amount of tape used on nearly every box that I had already packed and taped well enough that the boxes will not burst open. Keep in mind I am being charged 3.50$ per roll of tape, and then also for the time it takes to cover boxes almost completely in that tape. I didn't even fully realize how bad it was until I started unpacking at the new place, but I don't see how it could possibly be justified to use this much tape. No tape dispensers either, so I got to watch them somewhat clumsily tape these boxes in the most inefficient and slow way possible. I had been helping them carry things into and out of the truck the entire day, making myself the 4th mover. After I realized what the problem was I started to make compromises on how things were being wrapped before being moved into the truck in order to desperately try to save time and the expense of supplies, but it was just too late. In the end we ran an hour into overtime(you pay them overtime) and my one bedroom apartment ran me in excess of 1,200$ (with 100$ off angies list coupon) to move 3 miles away. There has got to be a better moving company around here. If this is just the way of things in the moving world, my advice would be to stay on top of what the movers are actually doing with your boxes and furniture and that they are not being excessive with costly packing materials and your precious expensive time.

A real love and hate relationship with NorthStar. There are some people who behave professionally within the company, but some that are not, especially when I thought everything was going well. 1) Called to schedule a appointment for an appraisal. The lady on the phone was courteous and was able to book me someone the Friday before 4th of July weekend. The next morning, my appointment hour came and went, no body showed up. Called NorthStar again, the same lady answered the phone. She was very apologetic and confessed that she screwed up and my appointment was not in their system. However, she was very nice and had me on hold while she tracked down an appraiser in the area and had him come that afternoon. The appraiser was very friendly and surveyed the house and chit chat for a long time. But he was valuable in terms of letting me know which old furniture was not worth moving and what to do to get the cheapest moving insurance. 2) Received appraisal and I was fine with the price and projected dates of packing on day 1, pick up on day 2 and delivery on day 3. However, the destination city was wrong, called the appraiser to have it fixed. 3) A week later, a dispatcher from their office called and we talked through the payment method. And lo and behold, the dispatcher told me that they couldn't promise the delivery date. He said that the company didn't make such quick turn around. They usually deliver within 3 days to 1 week from pick up date. I was furious and called the appraiser. He said that the dispatcher was new and didn't know what he was talking about. He would call and let them know that this is an exclusive move that required prompt turnaround. 4) On the day of packing, they sent a big truck and four guys and they were on time. The packers/movers were told to pack and pick up on the same day which is not what the appraisal contract said. After discussing with them, they packed up the entire house and came back the next day to pick up. The foreman told us on the day of packing that if I write a good Yelp review for them, then I will receive $25 off. The $25 off is actually non-existent because they actually require customers to pay by cashier's check before the work is started. If you pay by credit card, they'd add on an additional feel that's some percentage of your total estimate. 5) However, with the ups and downs, NorthStar did deliver on time and did not damage my stuff. Final advice, the quality of the move is good. Hiring this company requires a lot of close monitoring of who is saying what and this just adds unnecessary stress during the move.

We had used NorthStar twice for local moves and couldn't have been more pleased. Last month we had a long distance move, so they were the only company that came to mind. Things started off just fine. We scheduled the move and were told that the delivery window would be 3-14 days from pick up date. The movers were scheduled to arrive on July 9th and were right on time. They took about 5 hours to load up all our stuff and the crew was professional and very careful with our stuff. Before they left, we were advised that the dispatch center would keep us up to date and would give us a more solid delivery date once the truck was closer. Fast forward a week or so. We had just arrived in the Chicago and we received a call that the delivery window would be Friday to Monday (7/18-7/21) and we would get a call on Friday, 7/18 to confirm the date. The end of the day Friday comes and no call. My wife called right before closing and was able get someone who told us the "truck broke down and it would be more likely Monday (7/21) for delivery of our stuff. Monday comes and nothing. We called again and were told that someone would call us back. No one called us back. We called again at the end of the day and were told it would be later in the week. We called again on Wednesday and were told again someone would call us back. Again, no call back. We called again at the end of the day and were told Friday (7/25) at the earliest. We called Thursday and we told it would be Saturday afternoon (7/26) or Sunday (7/27). They also added that the local company handling the move would contact us with the exact time. At this point, it was out of Northstar's hands. Our stuff did finally arrive on Sunday afternoon (7/27). We talked to one of the crew members of the local team and he said he was one of the cross-country drivers. He told us that Northstar caused the delay because they wouldn't let them get our stuff out of their storage facility (or something along those lines). He basically said there was no truck break down, but rather a logistics issue. After all was said and done, NorthStar did give us a $600 credit ($100 for each day late), but I felt like we weren't told the truth. I feel like the truck breaking down story was just an excuse for issues caused by NorthStar. Luckily, we had family we could stay with (although sleeping on the floor in a family room for almost two weeks is not ideal). Would I recommend NorthStar for a local move? Absolutely. Long distance move? Probably not.

Jason B, Oscar C, and Ovidio M were the very competent young men who moved my houseful of furniture and household goods, including fragile things and electronics..They wrapped and packed the things that I was unable to do myself. They had to carry everything down a long, narrow, steep driveway after driving the huge truck up into the hills on winding roads. They were all polite, friendly, professional; and they were very careful with the goods. There were 2 locations in Ventura for drop off--a storage unit and an upstairs apartment. Good stacking in storage unit, and good setting up in apartment. Thanks so much for hiring such good guys. They all have an A+++ This was the second half on my move, and Morning Star provided the best of service for both parts. Thank you, Susan S.

The movers were wonderful. The house we were moving out of had a really steep driveway. The estimator claimed to have sent a truck over to make sure it could get up the driveway before giving us the quote. When the movers arrived they tried to get up the driveway, but the truck got stuck in the driveway and they had to get a mechanic out to free it. During that time the guys were busy padding and covering all of our furniture and getting ready to load the truck. They ended up having to walk everything down the (not small) driveway. At the other end we had a whole other crew of 4 guys come help unpack the truck. It took them over 12 hours to do the move, which was considerably more than the estimated 7 hours. The movers never complained and did an excellent job. We were only charged the "do not exceed" price from the estimator. It was a difficult move and we really appreciated their positive attitude throughout.
