This is the second time that I have used Northstar Moving during the last year to move all my household goods. And once again they were A-Plus in every category. Pre-move information was clear and helpful. On moving day they arrived on time with a crew that worked quickly and efficiently. Crew members were cheerful and polite. Everyone totally professional. The crew packed all my kitchen items plus the fragile contents of a large china cabinet. Not a single item was broken or damaged in either move. I have moved twice in the past using a major interstate mover and Northstar did a much better job. I don't plan to move again anytime soon, but if I do, there's no question about it -- I'll go back to Northstar!

Although I did have some issues during my move, I would definitely use Northstar again due to their excellent customer service. They truly care about their reputation and the service they deliver to their customers. Mistakes do happen and you can be confident knowing that Northstar will make things right if anything goes wrong with your move. The best customer service I have ever received!

These guys were fantastic. They called me when they were 30-40 minutes out, arrived 35 minutes later and were top notch the entire day. They were fast, professional, funny, easy going. They treated all my items with care - nothing was broken, scratched, scraped. I had several large awkward pieces, including a piano, and, unlike with other movers, I never worried for a second. From the minute I booked (all customer service reps were great, followup was great, confirmation call the day before was great) I had a wonderful experience. I gave them a B for price because I felt they were a little expensive, but I certainly got what I paid for, so it's hard to complain about that. I would definitely use them again.

NorthStar gave us great customer service from the initial call all the way to the completion of the move. Our crew was Joshua (team Leader), William and Ramiro. First contact with Northstar was smooth even though we threw several scenarios at them asking for pricing. I was emailed 3 quotes within 24 hours with 3 possible scenarios we discussed on the phone. On the day of the move the crew was on time and ready to work. Joshua made sure to ask questions about where things were going and in what order we wanted them. They got a little bombarded with the staff asking them questions and special requests but they took it in stride. Overall, it was a great experience and I would definitely use them again.
Description of Work: Did an "in place move" for work. Moved a downstairs office upstairs. Main focus was on desks and large furniture with some time at the end for packing up and moving contents of the storage room.

My experience was excellent. From the moment I first contacted Northstar, it was a pleasure to do business with them. No hidden charges, excellent value, nice clean new truck; and a crew of three who did a spectacular job. Ask for José and his crew - they were friendly, efficient, and worked their butts off! Everything arrived w/o a scratch! Plus, we had a good time during the process. I am normally incredibly critical of most service provers these days, but give credit where credit is due; both the office staff and the work crew were excellent. I found them on Angie's list and the reviews I read turned out to be accurate. I can't say enough good things. thx.

My first initial move went fine. The workers were punctual, efficient and polite. Even setting up my move out of storage into my house, that was easy and they were accommodating. It was when my belongings showed up at my house after being in storage for 14 months, that's when i discovered how horrible NorthStar moving actually is. More than half of my big items (over $2400 in value) were damaged, broken and/or not salvageable. The men who delivered my things seemed like they were in a rush to get out of my house, I figured because it was late in the day on a Saturday, so they probably wanted to get home to their families, but after unwrapping my things, I realized they didn't want to be around when I found half of my things (that I have paid over $1400 to store the past 14 months) were damaged. The reason I was taking my items out of storage was to sell them. Now that they were damaged, I couldn't even do that. My kitchen table was damaged, 2 of the 4 kitchen chairs were split and chipped. A piece of my antique cabinet was broken off, one of my nightstands was completely split and had to be thrown away, this was a set so one with out the other, it's just useless. That Monday, I took the day off work to address the damages, take photos and make a detailed list for my claims. I worked with Monica Orantes, Jr. Client Care Supervisor. She was helpful at first, but once I submitted my claims she told me that they had to go with their 60 cent per pound policy for the move damages. So that being the case i now was going to be compensated $116 for over $2400 worth of furniture. not to mention i know am out $550 for the moving costs and $1400 that i have been paying to store these broken items. (total of loss now is $4350) When I was offered the $116 I told Monica that I did not believe this compensation was fair. She spoke with her supervisor and came back with a "customer courtesy" of an additional $116 to make it now $232- but this offer came with a price. She told me per our phone conversation on May 12, 2014 that if I accept this offer she "would not be comfortable with me writing any negative reviews" so basically i was being paid to keep my mouth shut, I believe this is a bribe. She was bribing me with $116 to not write any reviews on any websites, share my story with anyone and contact Angie's list,etc. I did not accept the extra $116. I am appalled at the NorthStar moving company customer service. After I was told this by Monica, I contacted Angie's list and you guys told me to write a review and you would try to mediate. I have received a check from NorthStar for only $116 and i have yet to cash it. I was just looking through the December issue of Angie's List monthly and i saw they were nominated for a rave review. i am embarrassed to say that i have been extremely busy with work and homelife i haven't taken the time to finish my review. Seeing this pushed me over the edge. the reason they have an A on angie's list- is this because if a customer is unhappy NorthStar bribes its customers not to write a review? make you think... Please help Angie's List! I do not want this to happen to anyone else.

Dear Angie's List Member, We have gone above and beyond in an attempt to make things right for you. The truth is very simple: we are not a perfect company. Despite all our best practices, procedures and dedication to doing things the right way, accidents can happen. That is why we try to be up front about the rights and expectations of our clients prior to your move. Before your move commences, you are given options for valuation protection in the event of damages or missing items. We also urge you to contact a third party insurer if you would like to purchase more comprehensive full coverage insurance. You did not elect to do this. Instead, you chose our standard valuation protection in the amount of $0.60 per pound, per item. That means the total amount we were contractually required to pay for your damages was in the amount of $116.00. That is where our contractual obligation to you ended. Rather than have you unhappy, Monica jumped through a lot of hoops to go the extra mile for you. You thanked her by accusing her of something underhanded and demanding even more money. Incidentally, we feel it is worth mentioning that at the time of your original move, you attempted to use two different discounts even though you had been told previously by your estimator that we were not able to combine these offers. We made a special allowance for you at that time, again, in the attempt to please a client. In retrospect, this should have been our first indication that you were either unwilling or unable to understand the facts at hand. To specifically address your allegations of bribery: we regret that you have taken our attempts to go above and beyond for you as some kind of bribe. As you can see by looking here at Angie's List, we do receive negative reviews. We are a company run by human beings, which means we do make mistakes. Any company does. The difference with us is that if we do something wrong, we are willing to do what it takes, within reason, to make it right. That is how the true measure of a company is taken. Satisfied, happy clients do not, as a rule, write negative reviews. It was you and your husband who first brought up the idea that you would write negative reviews of our company if we did not increase the amount of money we were offering you. As a company, we do not respond positively to threats. That is why, once you opened your dispute with Angie's List, we welcomed the opportunity to abide by their rules and guidelines, ultimately offering you a great deal more than you were contractually due in order to satisfy you. This was still not enough for you. It is of course your right to feel this way. But the fact of the matter is that you are not entitled to any sum you are claiming here and that is exactly what the contract you signed states. They were great! They did have one minor accident in that they put a ding in the door frame of the new property, but they acknowledged they were responsible for this. I would recommend this company as well as use them again if I need to.

Everyone we dealt with, from first contact to final delivery was top notch & professional. They let me lock into a 2-day pickup window, then 2 days before the pickup day they let me know exactly what time they'd show up. They kept in contact with me for the drop off too, so I had a good idea of when they'd arrive. Their price beat the others by $500-$1,000. I highly recommend these guys.

Description of Work: Our Northstar Moving team consisted of Randy Chicas, Jesé and Dante, and they were without a doubt the single best part of our entire move--other than getting to live in our new house. They were extremely punctual, asked questions and gave detailed directions for what they were going to do throughout the process, and were also just very friendly and sympathetic to us in a stressful time.

The photos I attached show some of what they left behind; the horrible truck packing job (notice two bicycles on too of each other with a surfboard on top); and my broken furniture. I forgot to mention that the Forman on moving day went through my house saying "we're not moving this; this isn't on the list.." When I plainly told the estimator we needed to move our entire house! He walked through my house with a clipboard making notes for about 10 minutes. There's no way he could have specifically notated everything we needed to move! That's a BS excuse. Then when we said we needed it all moved, they threatens us with going into overtime at x1.5 the rate, when all along we were told it was an easy 6-hour move.
Description of Work: Sub-par moving experience that began with an inexperienced estimator and ended with broken items. We chose Northstar based on their great reviews but after our move I'm wondering what company we actually hired. When I first met the estimator I was planning on getting a few bids from different companies. But when he said our move would be 6 hours and no more than $1700, I confirmed them right away! Then the actual move: 11 hours, and 20% of our stuff left behind because their truck was too small. The move was a disaster, and it was such a long day there was no energy left to unpack. 4 days later I must have 20 of their moving blankets and 10 wardrobe boxes (all of which they were going to take with them at the end). My child's bed was incorrectly assembled (two extra bolts found on her floor under the bed); my mid-century hutch has a broken leg; and what am I going to do with all these boxes they "loaned" us? Bottom line: bad moving experience. Avoid.

A move is one of the most traumatic experiences in an individual?s life, so Moving Companies have a reputation for making life miserable, sometimes despite their best efforts. I have moved often - regionally, nationally, and internationally. I have never had a completely trouble-free experience, but how each moving company has addressed the inevitable challenges that arose has been the great differentiator, and the reason why I will likely stick with Northstar from now on. If you?re looking for the cheapest moving company, don?t go with Northstar. If you?re looking for the best value for money, however, this is your best bet. From the very first communication through all the little details after the move was completed, it was evident that the firm and all its employees were personally committed to my satisfaction. Yes, one or two items were accidentally damaged (nothing major), but the fantastic advice I had received from Northstar reps during the contract stage ensured I was more than covered, and at the best rates possible. Even after the move was all done, the firm called to ensure that repairs performed were up to standard, and that I was not just satisfied, but happy with the level of service provided, door-to-door. I would not only recommend them highly, but I will be sure to call them first thing, if ever I have need of moving services.

This is the second time I've used Northstar in a month! They are extremely competent, on time and if traffic is bad they are very communicative and let you know exactly when they will be arriving. Today we had Luis and Alex as our movers and they were great! Very polite, conscientious and moved quickly all while taking extreme care of all of our items.

Outcome of two separate delivery situation to be reported as this situation unfolds, but it does not seem promising at all. I feel I have been completely mislead by this company and that all of their assurances were false.
Description of Work: NorthStar Moving Co. took my household belongings from southern California to ship to Chicago on 10/30/2014. Today, two days later, they have informed me that my household will be delivered to the Chicago area in TWO DIFFERENT SHIPMENTS. This is something they never disclosed to me during the negotiation/estimating process. I am appalled that they would break up a shipment into two, and have no doubt this will lead to multiple issues on taking inventory when the deliveries are received. I will continue to update this post with their responses and outcome of this very problematic situation.

While your shipment is making its way to you on two separate trucks, this does not in any way impact the quality of the shipment or the inventory list. When you move across the country, it is extremely unlikely that your belongings would arrive without the use of consolidation. Consolidated shipping allows us to save our clients a great deal of money by shipping your belongings along with someone else's and you agreed to this shipping method at the time of your move. We notified you as soon as we realized your shipment would be arriving on two trucks because we believe in transparency and because we wanted to inform you of the facts as soon as we had them, not because this was a problem that needed to be solved or some unusual occurrence. At this point, we are very much putting the cart before the horse. Like you, we are eager to see your belongings arrive to you this week and look forward to a successful delivery. Julie Traiug was our contact person when we first signed up. She was very nice and thorough with going over all the information needed to reserve our moving date. Then Rebecca from Northstar called on Saturday (2 days before move) to confirm the move and make sure we were all on the same page. On moving day, 5 guys showed up on time. They called 30 minutes before they are arrived at the storage. They arrived at the storage with 2 trucks and with lots of energy and muscle and loaded everything up in record time. We lived about 17 miles from the storage facility and they arrived at our new home quickly. They unloaded the two trucks with professionalism, courtesy, smiling faces. Cesar Huertas, Enrique Machido, Armen Materosyan, Rick Cardona and Juan Alvarez were amazing. Put our beds together and arranged our furniture to our liking. They removed all the wrapping, and we very helpful in arranging the furniture. We used North star because of the great reviews on Angie's List and an advertisement from KTLA 5 Mark Kristie (weather guy). We watch KTLA every morning and saw the video of him saying how much he has used Northstar and always happy with them. We would definitely use them again and recommend them to our friends and neighbors.
Description of Work: They moved us from a storage facility in Aliso Viejo to a home in San Clemente. In July Northstar had moved us from Seattle to Aliso Viejo storage. And took some of that move and shuttled it to an apartment in San Clemente where we were renting until we found a home to buy.

I had used North Start 3 years ago to move my oldest daughter's bedroom furniture from LA to NYC as she was beginning grad school at Columbia. They were the least expensive bid ($1200) and the best movers I've ever used. So I immediately thought of them when I had two twin beds to move into a guest room. Highly recommend them for courteous, professional service.

Luis and his crew came on time. They were all very professional. No problems encountered. Made moving so much easier. Highly recommend this company. Sorry I forgot the final cost. But they completed the move and setup within the estimated time given.

Guys were in and out in about an hour! So fast! Very nice crew - always checking with me to see what was going vs staying. Very careful with all of our furniture during the move! Will definitely be calling them when we eventually sell & move into our new home!
