Description of Work: NorthStar moved a small condo's worth of furniture and belongings to a storage unit. They showed up three hours late and never called an hour ahead of when they were supposed to arrive, which they said they would do, or to even notify me they would be late. I called four times on the day they were scheduled to find out when they were arriving: once, an hour before the end of the time window in which they were to arrive; another time to check in when they said they'd look into it and never called back; another when they gave me an arrival time and still didn't show up; and a final time when they said they'd look into it again and never called back. Finally, they said they'd be there at 7pm, 3 hours after the noon-4pm window in which they were supposed to arrive. I was helping my neighbor move and he took time off from work and waited hours before he finally had to leave for a previous engagement and I handled the move. Since we were moving to a storage unit, by the time NorthStar arrived we only had 2 hours before the storage unit closed so they had to come back the next day to finish moving things. They at least called in advance the next day and showed up on time. And the movers moved quickly and handled things with care on both occasions. However, despite promises from NorthStar managers on the phone that $20 per hour would be deducted from my bill due to their tardiness--which is still not much for my and my neighbor's wasted time--I realized I was still charged full price and contacted them for a refund, which I got. Moving is hard enough without waiting around for 3 hours, getting mixed messages and just hearing a half-hearted "Sorry" from NorthStar employees on the phone. I was really hoping NorthStar would be pleasant to work with, given some of their positive Angie's List reviews and how they brag about having moved celebrities. However, maybe I needed to be a celebrity to have them actually show up on time. If this had been a positive experience, I would have used them for my upcoming move, but now I am looking elsewhere.

Sometimes things happen over the course of a day that can cause a crew to be late, as it did on the day of your move when we were unable to show up on time. It is not a typical occurrence with our company, as the thousands of amazing client testimonials and reviews we have received over the years will attest. However, it is something that does happen, even to the best companies. To that end, you say yourself that on the second day of your move, we showed up on time, moved things quickly and handled your neighbor’s belongings with care. What transpired on the second day of your move IS a typical experience with our company; after all, you don’t earn the kind of reputation we have by consistently doing a bad job. And, yes, if we drop the ball, we more than compensate you for your time, as we did in your case, because it is the right thing to do. Catching us on a bad day does not make us a bad company; it makes us human. When I spoke with you after the fact, I did the best I could to make the situation right for you, but the only thing you told me would change your mind about our company was if we could turn back time. This is not a demand any company could meet and while I wish my efforts had earned your good opinion of our company, I of course respect your opinion and your right to it. Description of Work: They were there on time and quick...but neglected to put down protection for carpet and didn't do that at the new house either. I had damage to a large armoire with which they bumped the entry way and threshold when their dolly slipped. They also didn't properly secure my BBQ in the truck because it was delivered seriously damaged. Their office people are courteous. The workers used the bathroom and "splashed" all over the toilet which I had to clean. |

Description of Work: The estimator was very professional, and spent a lot of time reviewing the contents of our home, which we asked to have packed as well as moved. Gave us a very detailed estimate including the exact number of packers and vans necessary, to meet our needs of having the whole move completed no later than their 8-hour day would end, so we wouldn't have the nightmare of making beds, finding clothes, etc. very late at night (as has happened in the past with other movers). So, it was decided to have a day of packing with 9 packers, and 3 vans the next day to move. (I know, I'm a pack rat, lol). Most of the packers were very good, but some seemed to have no experience; i had to stop a couple of them from just throwing items in a box without wrapping; I also found many broken, ruined items, including a very valuable, sentimental silver serving piece which is so bent out of shape from being thrown in a box of photos and candles and hard objects, that it cannot be used (I don't think it can even be repaired :(. The day of the move, instead of 3 trucks, the head mover ordered only 2. I objected and called the company, who said they would guarantee they would not go over the estimated dollar amount. They did go over time (!), which I specifically said I did not want --- finishing after 10 p.m. They did not charge us more than they estimated, however.

Description of Work: Our movers communicated very well and kept in contact with us about when they would arrive. They moved our one bedroom apartment to a two bedroom, and there were no hidden charges for stairs, etc. They were super nice, helpful, arrived when we expected, and followed our specified instructions well.

Description of Work: Packed and moved my storage locker from Los Angeles to Mississippi. They did a great job, everything went smoothly even though I wasn't in Los Angeles when they packed up my locker. Nothing was broken, it was all delivered right on time to the right place and having done a lot of shopping around for the service they had by far the best price. I cannot recommend them highly enough.
