McCullough Heating & Air Conditioning

I called them after hours, spoke to one of their techs and he showed up shortly afterwards, immediately identified the problem and fixed it.

It has now been nearly two hours since I left a message on their emergency "Phones Answered Live 24/7" phone line, and no one has called me back. I tried calling again, and still got an answering machine on the "live" line.

A/C broke the morning we were awaiting guests who were coming to spend the night at our house. We were third on the list of service calls. Seven hours after we called, the technician called to say he was finished with the other jobs and was headed our way. He was courteous and competent, and an hour after he arrived, we had A/C again. Completely satisfied and will use them again.

I called this company because they had an A rating on Angie's List. The service calls was a reasonable $75.00. The tech was not able to come until late the next day, around 7:30 pm. At the time, I had workers installing Hardie siding on my house and they had been cutting the cement boards near the compressor. The tech said that the unit was running fine but that the unit needed to be cleaned. Using my garden hose, he spent about 5 minutes hosing down the unit. This fixed the problem. He then gave me the bill which was $75.00 for the call and $87.00 for the 5 minutes he spent hosing down my compressor. I thought this was a bit much and the $75.00 should have covered what he did or at least the price could have been a little more reasonable.

The technicians were very professional and friendly. They were also very knowledgable about the work and kept me informed about what they were doing throughout the process.

It went well. I called around 7pm on Sunday night. Robert came out by 8:30 that same night. He diagnosed the problem quickly and made the repair. I was very happy with McCullough's responsiveness. It ended up a bit more expensive than I had hoped, but given the very quick turnaround on a Sunday night, it's about what I expected.

The service tech arrived after 9pm after working all day. I was very impressed. He found the problem quickly and fixed it. The system works perfectly now.

Our air conditioning system went out so we called McCullough. The company's owner, Al D'Andrea and his team did an excellent job assessing our problem. They determined our condenser outside was not very old, so all we needed to do was replace the coil inside to have the system fully operational. They also suggested we replace our 20 year old furnace since it is more cost effective to do this work while completing the replacement of the coil. Done. Jimmy from McCullough did an excellent job on the installation; he is so knowledgeable and professional. At no cost, Jimmy even added some additional seals and insulation so the unit runs much quieter than before. I've been using HVAC companies in Austin for over 18 years, McCullough Heating & Air Conditioning is by far the best.

Tony Mejia was great, he didn't try to over sale me. He sold me exactly what I needed and listened to what my concerns were and addressed them. They were really good. They were very professional in what they presented. They beat the competitors price by about $7000.00 for the same equipment. They were even able to get me a better return on my energy rebates. I can tell the difference in rooms and there is a more consistant temperature throughout the home. I have allergies and they put in new insulation and am not having near the problems. They were great. The installers got it completed it in one day and took away all the old equipment. The next day they came back and sealed my home and put in the solar screen, and got it done within the same day.

We bought a 37 year old house. Unfortunately, it had a 37 year old HVAC system. Well, the condensor unti looked like it may have been replaced a few decades ago, but the attic was all original. Although the system worked fine (it still had the original Honeywell mercury thermostat!), rooms had varying degress of comfort and I didn't want to wait until it broke to replace it. We decided to take advantage of the City of Austin rebates and low cost financing to replace the system and get a free energy audit. The company I had previously used for excellent HVAC service wasn't on the COA approved list, so I did some research and made a couple of calls. McCullough was prompt and courteous in getting back to me and setting up the appointment. The audit was very thorough and at the end, he produced a document that showed us all the opportunities for improvement with lots of options. This was what I liked best - they gave us several options from just replacing the AC to performing other improvements like replacing the ductwork (some of it was actually missing - hence the varying degrees of comfort). He also recommended adding attic insulation and we showed him the receipt from when we had some blown in after we bought the house. He then recommended we have that company perform the insulation upgrade because he thought they would give us a much better price. They also offered different systems - the more expensive being quieter and with a longer warranty. We made our selection and decided on having the ductwork replaced. It was huge job and not an easy one as our attic was wierd - instead of one big open space, it was broken down into rooms like the house below. The work was done on time and all of the workers were professional and cleaned up after themselves. In order to qualify for the rebates, the city had to come make an inspection and the inspector complimented the McCullough team on the quality of work. Everyone we dealt with at McCullough was very professional and courteous. We definitley recommend these guys and wouldn't hesitate to use them again.

McCullough did a terrific job on our project. Every single person involved, and there were many, was thoughtful and competent. The owner, Al D'Andrea, was our main contact, and he was just great to deal with. He listened well when asking us what we needed, and made the smartest and most comprehensive bid we got. I think, considering the scope of the work and the quality of the goods and services we received, the price was very reasonable. And whenever I had a question or request, I always got a quick response. For this job, I think McCullough is about the perfect size-- they had enough people to knock out the work in a small number of days, and were able to do the insulation removal in the downstairs attic with their own people; other companies we talked to would have had to subcontract that work, which made us less comfortable. McCullough is big enough that they have highly skilled guys with specialties (such as the split system installation), but they're not so big that it seems like they'll forget your name by next week. Denise, in the office, makes you feel like part of the family. I guess what matters most is that we're very happy with our new HVAC systems and the insulation / duct repair / home sealing work that McCullough did for us. Our house is cooler, and our past month's electric consumption was surprisingly low. We have already received a big rebate check from Austin Energy, with more on the way from Texas Gas and the split system manufacturer. I wouldn't change a thing about how this project went-- I give McCullough my highest recommendation.

We where very happy with the service we received , they arrived in the time period they said they woudl and had the part needed in their truck ...we where very happy to get our a/c up and running again...we are going to have them some out and give us a price on another unit...we have a 2800 sq ft home and only one a/c unit...has to work really hard to keep the house cool..I woudl definitely recommend this company ..

I only had one problem. My solar screens started to fall off my house, but they promptly fixed them and explained why the problem had developed. I was very satisfied.

Gave a very thorough presentation of the different types of air conditioning units and all related costs. I asked for a senior citizen's and cash discount which I got. Did all the things they said they would do and everyone was very professional and friendly.

They came back the next day to replace the parts. It took the technician much longer to get the job done, finding more problems along the way than originally thought. But he stayed with it and made sure everything was done right. I'm very pleased and will continue using McCullough as my HVAC contractor.

Our upstairs unit was not cooling properly. I called McCullough around 9 a.m.; Aiden and an assistant were at the house by 10:30 or 11; he diagnosed a Freon leak, and had it fixed by around noon. The unit has been working perfectly ever since. The price seems reasonable---not a bargain, but well within normal range, and the Angie's List coupon helped. I really don't know why I have been dealing with other people all these years.

Our a/c froze up during a very hot week. I called McCullough to come look at it. They were out the next day - found that there was freon leaking from a bad place in the evaporator coil. And that the coil would have to be replaced. The technician, David, called the office to get the info for pricing, and gave me a price on the repair. Unfortunately, they had work scheduled solid for the next two weeks - so it looked like we were going to be hot. Andrea, at the office, offered to lend us a window unit, but I am very sensitive to fragrances and couldn't take the chance on what might come in with a unit that had been in other people's homes. So we waited. And it was hot. David ultimately gave up a Saturday, on Memorial Day weekend, to come out and install the coil. Unfortunately there was a mixup with the part, and he could not finish the job that day. So he volunteered to come on Monday, Memorial Day, to finish things up. Needless to say, we did not turn down his generous offer! It took David 6 hours to get the job done, finding more problems along the way than originally thought. But he stayed with it and made sure everything was done right. Both Andrea and David, I felt, went above and beyond. We're quite happy with the service - and we're cool again. Thanks!

The visit was scheduled on the morning I called. The service person was prompt and all business--I liked that. Aiden Gomez checked out the unit completely. He identified the problem, and explained my alternatives. He helped me make a good choice and then set to work to fix the problem. He was professional in every way. I will definitely call this company again.

I trust Adnan to tell me what is the best way to maintain my aging equipment to keep it running at top efficiency. He arrives on time, goes directly to work, makes a complete list of what the furnace and air conditioning units need to keep them in A-one condition, then discusses with me what should be done now and what can be done at a later date. Adnan shows me the part that he replaced (as if I would know a capacitor from a cigarette lighter) and explains carefully why he recommended the replacement of the part and how much it costs, before he does the work. I trust his assessment of the repair of my HVAC units. Adnan always wears shoe covers when he is working in the house and works very hard at making sure I am getting the best price and service.

I called McCullough Heating and A/C based on the number of positive reviews already on Angie's List. I wasn't disappointed. The phone receptionist was very professional. She asked me to describe the problem in detail so she could inform the tech and answered my questions regarding diagnostic fees, trip fees, warranty, etc. Based on this, we set the appointment. The tech, Mark, was very punctual. He called ahead to let me know he was on the way. He was clean cut, courteous and patient. He quickly diagnosed the issue as a failed flame sensor. Since he didn't have one on the truck he was able to get the existing sensor to work temporarily until he could come back the next day with the part. The next day was the same as the first. He called ahead and arrived when expected. He was in and out in few minutes and the heater was working great and it continues to do so. I will use them again the next time my AC/Heater has an issue.

The initial call was a little rocky. The first person could not schedule the visit, but a second person returned our call and was willing to schedule a repairman that day if necessary. We agreed on the following afternoon. The repairman arrived on time and quickly made the repair.

The technician showed up amazingly quickly, especially since it was on a Saturday. This is very nice, since we were in the middle of a cold snap, so I'm sure that his workload was very high that day. He very professionally found the problem and told me what it was. The fix as quick and easy, and I am very pleased with the outcome. I would definitely use this company again.

Very well. The serviceman checked my heat pump system and explained what was likely causing the periodic loud noise (defrost cycle). He stated that I could replace the outdoor unit with probably a quieter one, and a couple days later e-mailed an estimate for that. But he also mentioned that it might not be worth it considering the cost. One way to decrease the use of the whole system was improving the energy efficiency of my home (a useful idea), so he discussed that and also provided an estimate by e-mail.

The office staff was very polite and sent someone out to fix our air conditioning the same day I called. Problem was identified and fixed quickly. The service person was professional and competent - McCullough Heating and Air Conditioning will be my first call the next time we experience any HVAC issue.
