The whole process took about half an hour and the lock is perfect (he helped me select the right one for my needs).

They were easy to reach, easy to make an appointment, I told them if they were available early to please come when ready and they did (they called first), had everything that they needed to perform the job quickly and efficiently, charged me what they estimated ( fair and reasonable). + -1 moreI just moved into my apartment and had the locks changed. I researched in AngiesList and called Lockbusters. He gave me a discount for being an AngiesList customer. Regardless of the discount, I would use them again. It wasn't just that Lockbusters exceeded all my expectations on the normal criteria (professionalism, price, punctuality, etc.), we discussed safety issues and what other measures I could take to improve safety, such as the benefits of different types of locks and a bar to protect from break ins using a crow bar. I was truly impressed.
Description of Work: I had my locks changed. He also made some extra keys.

I got a returned call within 15 minutes from Jay. We discussed the job and he gave me prices, which were the same as those on the website. I made an appointment for the following Wed 10 am. Jay showed up on time. He was friendly and attentive. He listened to my concerns and explanation of the job I needed done. He had all the tools he need with him, so he didn't have to leave to go back to the truck (like many other service-people I've used). He completed the work quickly and efficiently and was done in less than 30 minutes. He wrote up a professional, detailed invoice, which I paid by check. I was completely thrilled with the service. I've already recommended him to a few people.

+ -1 moreStarted out OK with answering service but at that point, at 7am she could have said we only service Queens area next to the city. My time was wasted waiting for nothing ,and it delayed me finding someone who would really help me today. When I asked the last person who called back why their info says they service Queens and they only serve a small part of Queens he gave a polite sounding story about call backs that may take a week, it is a liability, etc. ,e seemed to be covering for the fact that no one , not even his manager knew they didn't serve my area ,and I was foolish for picking them ,but if his manager doesn't know what area they serve , how would I know. He said he would help me find someone in my area but because I was annoyed with the run around he was giving me and still not telling me of anyone in my area <i hung up so he could waste NO more of my time. Polite sounding ,but not helpful at all.
Description of Work: I waited after calling # and reaching answering service (at 7am),who took # and were made aware I am in Queens. At 1030 I called back and a manager in the office took my location info( I told him I was off Liberty Ave exit on Van Wyck Expwy ) and had me text pictures of lock. After about 15 minutes someone else called back and said sorry to call back so late, I told him I just spoke to someone from the office , he seemed confused then said it was his manager .he went on to say we don't serve queens ,gave me long story including we don't do queens until Thursday and then only near NYC like LI City etc. There ads should be clear .I choose them and waited over the holiday weekend because they seemed like the best. So I wasted valuable time talking and waiting for them and being unprotected as well. They sound polite but not really helpful , and they also became argumentative when I forcefully questioned why did they take my info if they do not really serve Queens. So I making this report because they have my info and I want someone to know in case Lockbusters breaks into my house.

Description of Work: We were having trouble entering our home, and sometimes the key would get stuck or the door would not open easily. This was getting to be a problem. Also, the locks on our upstairs back door was broken, and the two doors leading out of from our basement to the backyard and front of the house were not working. We called Lockbusters based upon the excellent Angie's List reviews. The service we received was first-rate. Jay is wonderful, very nice and he did a terrific job replacing our locks. He also told us what was wrong with our front door lock - there are supposed to be six pins in the lock and there was one pin that was missing, causing the door to jam and not open and close easily. He did the repair, and all the locks in my house work perfectly. I highly recommend Lockbusters to anyone who needs a lock repair. They are the best locksmith we've ever used, and we would definitely use them again. Thanks, Jay!

+ -1 moreMy security door lock had given out evev after having been serviced in the past by inferior locksmiths. Jay came all the way out to Brooklyn, on time, and as professional as you please. He took the lock apart and explained why it wasn't working and what needed to be done. In no time he corrected my junky lock and had it working perfectly! He's really pleasant and cute to boot! Definitely give him a call. If he can fix my lock he can fix anything.
Description of Work: He reset a broken deadbolt that never workesd right in the first place.

Jay was at the apartment about ten minutes later and she was in her apartment about five minutes after that. He was able to pick the lock with only a couple tries and without doing any damage. Jay was quick, professional and a pleasure to deal with. He seemed to genuinely appreciate that we called Lockbusters and he thanked me for calling them.
Description of Work: The bottom lock of an interior brownstone apartment was picked so my neighbor could get back into her apartment.

He also provided an estimate of what the job would cost. Jay came out during the time period he provided and was extremely professional. He completed his work efficiently and even fixed a lock that had been put on the wrong way by another locksmith at no extra cost. Jay was a pleasure to do business with and if the need ever arises I would definitely call him back again.

+ -1 moreAn expensive lock had been installed incorrectly by another (regrettably, Angie's-recommended) locksmith, twice, for $500+. I called Lockbusters, the man came promptly, and immediately discovered that the lock had actually been taken apart (because we have a left-sided door) and then put together the wrong way, without tightening the internal screws. He fixed it, and in the process dealt with some tricky problems due to (109 year) old door knobs, spindle, and a very thick door. He explained exactly what he was doing and why, and was also extremely courteous throughout. He also gave a 10% Angie's coupon discount.

He was very professional on the phone and gave the prices for the work that needed to be done. We set up an appointment as there was no urgency as my son was out of the country. Jay was very punctual. He opened the locked door and waited patiently while I searched for a second set of keys. When I couldn't locate any he installed a new lock at my request in a matter of minutes. I would definitely use and recommend him again without hesitation. I wish all the companies we deal with were as professional as Lockbuster.

They did a wonderful job and they were just great. The efficiency was remarkable because they were buzzed in. The gentleman came in and looked at the door and walked away. Before I could come back he was finished. He was incredible and for the efficiency I would give 5 stars. It was just incredible and his personal service was very nice. I would highly recommend him to anyone and to anyone in the building needing a lock. He was really good. The price was pretty reasonable for the medical lock. I understand that we had one of the top line ones and it was the best we could get. The price was reasonable.

Others were slow to respond and gave incomplete information until I fished for it. Not Lockbusters. Jay was courteous and quick to provide answers to work scope and pricing requests. He even offered the discount without my asking. Jays field man Scott responded on time, friendly and knowledgeable. He opened the door, changed cylinder and as an added bonus also fixed the malfunctioning knob without extra cost. Now that's value added. I highly recommend Lockbusters.
Description of Work: Lockbusters came to unlock door and first tried to pick the lock but had to drill it out. They changed a cylinder, and at no additional cost fixed the malfunctioning door knob.

+ -1 moreMy painter loosened my front door lock in order to paint the door, saying that I could tighten the screws myself in a few hours...sadly that didn't work, and there I was on Thanksgiving weekend needing to secure the front door of my apartment and knowing that I had no time to babysit this problem come my early work schedule on Monday morning...I expected to pay an exorbitant rate given that it was a holiday weekend if I was lucky enough to find someone at all. Instead, Jay arrived ahead of schedule and solved the problem within minutes. He also oiled the hinges on the front door without any extra charge...I can't say enough good things about his professionalism, demeanor, punctuality, skill, and care of my freshly painted door.
Description of Work: The front door lock - a deadbolt -- needed to be reinstalled. It had a special "catch" in the lock that is part of the nature of a high quality lock and therefore couldn't just be screwed in without the special knowledge of how this feature works.

I had already bought what I thought was the right lock but after taking a look, Jay explained exactly how it worked and why it would not be the right lock for that door. I exchanged the lock and Jay came back a second time (no charge for the first visit due to the wrong lock), and put in the new (correct) lock. I would definitely use Lockbusters again. Even my very hard to please mother had nothing but good things to say about Jay and the work he did!
