Kirby Painting was punctual, gave a fair price, and completed the job quickly and efficiently. Our house had not been painted in at least 25 years and they did a thorough job in matching the old paint, caulking, and repairing the siding where there was some age and water damage. The painters were professional and came on time and cleaned up daily. We will definitely use them again when needed.

They did a great job. They showed up when they said the were going to, they started on time and finished when they said they were going to. They were professional and polite. I will use them again for all my painting needs!
Description of Work: The price was very reasonable. They painted the kitchen and two bathrooms. All of it was wall papered before so it required texture be added to the walls.

Wow, these guys really went above any beyond. I hired them to do a specific job, and they quoted me a fair price. What they did is practically repaint my entire downstairs - for the same price - because they noticed things a previous painter had done that they wanted to correct. The issues they noticed were the kind of things you'd only notice when they were pointed out to you, but they were such perfectionists that they had to fix them. Talk about attention to detail! Winston and Irvin (Winston's son) were able to help me out the day after I called because we were pressed for time with guests arriving for the weekend. I probably called 6 painters and they were the only one that could make it work. The results look great, no issues with paint matching -- it looks as good as new -- and the price was really fair. I wouldn't hesitate to use them again in the future.
Description of Work: Painting over 12 drywall patches on walls and ceilings in entryway, living room, kitchen, and dining room. Matching paint to existing paint (I had paint manufacturer, name and numbers).

Kirby painting gave us the best quote out of 7 other contractors we contacted on Angie's list. They were 8 weeks out but we decided to wait because of the many positive reviews he received on Angie's list. He checked in a couple of times over that period to let us know that they were still on schedule. They showed when they told us they would. The crew was professional and diligent. The jobsite was always clean at the end of the day. They performed and finished the work on schedule. We couldn't be happier with the end result and the experience, overall. We will use them again and recommend them highly.

Previous owners had tried to remove popcorn from the living ceiling and did a horrible job. In addition, I had some water stains from an air conditioner leak and a roof leak. Mr. Kirby and his team gave me what looks like a brand new ceiling. They are a reliable, conscientious, and professional team. They are in-demand, so I had to wait before they could start work. But it was well worth the wait! You can't go wrong with this company!

Overall the job went extremely well. The main job was to repair water damage on the sheet rock on an exterior wall. First, Winston pointed out the sheet rock was still firm so it did not need to be replaced. They repaired the ceiling molding and replaced the floor molding. The room was taped off with plastic so they could spray "mud" over the damaged areas to match the rest of the "mud" in the house. Then they painted the entire wall so there was no issue of blending colors on the same wall. A minor regret, we should gotten grout added to the floor molding. Overall though, the wall looks great and matches the surrounding walls in both texture and color. The small jobs all were also completed very competently. These were: 1) repairing a water line on the ceiling caused by a bad roof repair. The water line was painted with Kilz and the original color. it is not visible now. 2) Replace a small section of rotten baseboard in the master bath. This was replaced with hardwood floor molding, as was the damaged molding on the wall with the sheet rock repair. The replacement molding is better than the original pressed wood. 3) grout a bathroom sink to the wall. They noticed the sink was not fully tightened to the wall and fixed that issue also. To me this was a great example of doing the job right. 4) re-attached an air filter return frame to the studs. After we signed the contract we realized we had a couple of other small jobs that needed to be done. Winston was very easy to work with on these extra jobs. They painted a recessed alcove over the fireplace and hung a large wall hanging in the alcove. It was a job that would have been very difficult to do alone so I was very pleased they could add it. Overall we were very pleased with the work done.
Description of Work: The main job was to repair water damage caused by rain on the sheet rock on an exterior wall. We also contracted for 3 handyman jobs: replace water logged molding in a bathroom, add grout around a bathroom sink, repair an air filter return frame (frame was separating from the wall studs). In addition to the contract, we asked them to paint a recessed section of wall over the fireplace and hang a large picture in that location. And a bonus job, with no prior notification, they also fixed a 12 inch hole in the sheet rock at my neighbor's house.

The project went exceedingly well! Winston Kirby and crew did a fantastic job of cloroxing, caulking and painting the exterior of our one story house, including priming and painting an outdoor porch cabinet, two regular outside doors and one large metal wrought iron front door. Then also paid extra attention to doing an extra coating on our (difficult to reach) chimney. They used exactly the kind of paint we requested, matched the trim paint perfectly to our roof color and did a very professional job. We were particularly impressed with their excellent customer service. Mr. Kirby came to give us an estimate immediately upon our calling, and he watched the weather carefully to be sure the temperature and humidity were appropriate for a good paint job. Regina called each time the crew expected to be even a few minutes late, or if the weather was not the best for a painting day. We always knew when to expect the painters and any questions we had were answered promptly and completely to our satisfaction. Everyone was courteous and professional. We would highly recommend Winston Kirby Painting to anyone who is particular about having an excellent painting job done on their house. We will call them again whenever we need any exterior or interior painting in the future.

We called Winston based on a review from Angie's List. We gave him a trial project of one bathroom (remove wallpaper, texture wall, paint) and were so pleased that we asked him to bid on the remainder. Winston's bid was half the price of the others with no difference in quality. He was actually better than other (also good) experiences. For example, in a previous job we replaced the wood baseboard of a master bath with tile but at a slightly shorter height. However, the previous (more expensive) contractor did not remove the paint line at the top of the old baseboard. However, Winston's team removed the line and re-textured the exposed drywall. Nice catch from his crew. Winston is a joy to work with.

the girls in my office sent 3 e-mails and 2 phone calls and never got a responce from either of these members. i thought that they had accepted my bid and we were attempting to schedule them. They had said earlier on that they would call us back but even after the e-mails and phone calls there still was no response. i assumed they changed thier mind or went with someone else. so we made no further contact but never the less - i would like to thank them for their positive report and assure these members that we are still here should they need anything at all. thank you, winston kirby

We are very happy with the worked performed by Kirby Painting! Winston is very professional and is a no nonsense kind of guy - he'll shoot you straight. Regina is wonderful too - very helpful! Winston instructs his painting crew of what is expected and he makes routine inspections through out the job to make sure we were happy with the progress. Even when the job was complete they called to make sure we were satisfied and were more than willing to make any changes we requested. Hire Kirby Painting - you will not be disappointed!! I will not use anyone else to do my painting jobs - we own multiple homes in the Austin area. Thank you, Winston and Regina!

We had a roof leak that resulted in a large water stain on our living room ceiling. We contacted Kirby Painting through Angie's List and Regina contacted us immediately to set up a time for Winston Kirby to come give us a free quote. Winston is extremely knowledgeable about a variety of home repairs, and he had excellent advice concerning the work we wanted done. We considered having our popcorn ceilings removed, and Winston not only gave us an idea of how much that would cost, but also predicted whether we would be able to recoup that added expense when we go to resell our home next year. He helped us plan ways to keep costs down and provided us with a fantastic crew that made our water stain disappear (and fixed some ceiling cracks while they were at it)! The crew was very polite and fast, and did excellent work. I will always begin every home project by calling Winston first...he really helped us to conceptualize the project and delivered on every part of his job. Just fantastic.

It was the first week of December, and I needed to have a 100sf bedroom painted and a small bathroom's wall textured and painted, all on time for the holiday parties I was hosting. I called 3 Angie's top-rated painting companies, Kirby being one of them. From the start, the office staff was very responsive, returning my calls within 30 minutes each time I needed something. Winston came by my house the next day to give the estimate of this specific job, and for other work I envisioned for a not so pressing date. Though the other two companies were also responsive and Kirby's was the middle price quote, I chose Kirby for their ability to work with and knowledge about all the woodwork around my house. The Kirby crew showed up on time both days of the job; they were polite, efficient and careful with my furniture. The finished job left nothing to be desired - the quality was excellent and we had our rooms ready with lots of time to spare for our holiday party. Thank you Kirby painting.

The worst company I have dealt with in years.
Description of Work: This company came to my home and I took a lot of notes from the discussion on what I wanted. I accepted their estimate on 1/17 and the work was scheduled for 2/17 - exactly 4-weeks out. Prior to the date of the work I asked further questions via e-mail to clarify that we were all on the same page. Responses were few and far between. On 2/12 I sent an e-mail to make sure that everything was covered to be included in the contract to be signed the morning the work was to start. I had to follow up twice to get a response and on 2/16 - the day before the painting - it was confirmed they had the paint selection correct and would be at my house the following morning between 8:00 and 9:00 am. I had also requested they send me a copy of the contract via e-mail so I could have a chance to review before signing on the day the work was to begin. This never happened. In the meantime I had taken down two vertical blinds in the room - this company does not provide this service - and cleared the room of all but 2 pieces of furniture. The room is 16' x 26' with a peaked ceiling. The laminate floors were scheduled to be installed two weeks after the painting - it was not going to be necessary form them to put any furniture back in the room. I took a day of vacation from my work - Business Manager for a masonry company based in Austin - as i have a Lab and I needed to keep him out of the way of the painters. Yesterday morning at 8:00 am I received a call from the young lady who had been responding to my e-mails to tell me that they were cancelling the job and to read an e-mail from Winston Kirby - the owner. I could not believe what I was hearing. Some ridiculous story about firing the person who was responsible for the e-mails - give me a break - I may be more mature in age - but I am not stupid. I could not believe what I was hearing. I read Mr. Kirby's rambling e-mail in disbelief. He started out by saying that contractors usually run 2-weeks out so running late was normal - this had been on everyone's schedule for 4-weeks! Said he wasn't receiving the e-mails - well the responses I did get from his office admin all said she would have to check with him for an answer. Said the estimate did not include 2 coats of paint - there were areas that needed some patching on the ceiling due to recent modern lighting/ceiling fan installation - not listed on his estimate and we discussed 2-coats of paint - which now now denies. The 2 other estimates I got from companies I found on Angie's List included 2 coats of paint.. When you are patching drywall, and matching the finish, it is necessary to have 2 coats of paint. Mr. Kirby did not have the professional decency to call me himself and discuss the situation - had his office help do his dirty work. I have a contractor who is making the major renovations to my house, but he does not do this kind of work. Recommended I go to Angie's List - I not impressed with any of the three I selected. My recommendation would be to have a check list already prepared if you select this company - make sure you are getting what you are paying for before they show up. I now have to find another panting company - my laminate floor installation has to be pushed out - and I have a living room that is practically empty - not a very happy camper.

Response from Kirby Painting
First of all I never did the job for this member. I never performed any type of work. When I went to do the bid and met this member we went over everything thoroughly. She said she could only do the work on a Friday and she was scheduled for the Friday that was convenient for her. From that point on she continuously emailed my office. She dictated how she would make payment and how long she would hold the second half of payment. She started including extras that were not discussed and she acted as if we had no contract policies. She even changed the sheen we originally agreed on and an upgrade in sheen would slightly change the price of paint. Then she e-mailed me again and told me how much she would be willing to pay for thru change not even considering what my prices are or my discounts. Every one of her e-mails was answered promptly and on time. She also e-mailed me and said this was a one day job when I specifically told her that the texturing part would have to dry overnight and then a few hours the next morning painting it. Then she e-mailed me again wanting to know that we were on the same page and that I understood everything precisely the way she wanted it. Using her own words: I’m not stupid--give me a break "I’ve been doing this for 33 years.” This member was only doing one room--it should have been a simple in and out job but all her emails and changes made this simple job extremely complicated and in short--scared me. I started feeling like I could never please this member. I have no problems with questions--in fact I encourage that you let me know every question that is on your mind but when you start telling me how you are going to pay me--what the cost of paint is and how to do my job -I’m probably going to pass on the project. And this member's last e-mail was 3 days late getting to me and I did dismiss one of the girls in my office and for the short notice to this member-- I am very sorry!! I dare this member to assume that she knows the personnel in my office or members of my crew to where she can respond to what I did or did not do this is just another statement by this member that assures me that I was correct in passing on this project. I hate having any kind of indifferences with anyone but sometimes it's better to pass on a project than to get caught up on something that might not work or be a good work environment for either party. Winston

It went very well from start to finish. They were on-time, under budget (a little) and did an excellent job of keeping the mess down. One of the hardest pieces of work was matching the popcorn ceiling in a large room. They did this flawlessly. You cannot tell the original from the replacement a year later.

Mr. Kirby arrived punctually to make the estimate and the crew was punctual doing the job. His bid was the most competitive one that accomplished what we wanted. There were no surprises, except that the job looked even better than we expected. Everything was cleaned up before they left.
Description of Work: Our 15-year-old house had never been repainted outside and was starting to look shabby. Mr. Kirby gave us a straightforward bid, that included an option to paint our deck if we thought it would need it after they powerwashed everything. His price included washing, calking and painting all the wood trim (the rest is brick), front door, and garage door,. After the washing we decided the deck could use another coat of paint as well. His crew worked quickly and efficiently completing the job in two days.

I remodeled two secondary bathrooms. Previously I used Kirby Painting for interior painting. Very pleased with work and professionalism, so when we decided to have an orange peel texture applied to the bathrooms, we didn't hesitate to have Kirby Painting do the job. There was a small touch-up. I called Winston Kirby and he had one of his men come by the next day to reapply the texture, which was done with a small, hand held, texture applier. It blended in perfectly. Kirby's men did a great job. His men are polite and respectful and do a great job, including clean-up. Kirby always comes by and inspects the work, down to the smallest detail. I wouldn't hesitate to hire him again.

This was a simple job - I wish i could post pictures of the unsanded trim and paint on the back of all the doors, which they did not remove when doing the trim. Really? If you have discerning eye and aim a little higher in life - this is not for you Not what i expected - No follow up call - Please refer to ratings.
Description of Work: ** Golden Rule - Always submit YOUR contract to the service provider, if they decline to sign - Do not utilize their services. This i failed to do. My new contractor suggested this to me. FYI - The contractor that is now doing the complete remodel of the interior of the main house is amazing - Word of mouth from close friends and the ability to visit their previous jobs is the only way to go - Not from random providers on Angies list,.. who knows where the reviews really come from.

i'm shocked by these comments and maybe this member is confused. i don't usually take on jobs where several other contractors walked off the job according to this member. i think i understand now why they walked off. ... this member hired me to do two bedrooms and a half bath-- all my contract called for was to smooth out some bad spots left by the previous contractors and paint the ceilings, walls and trim and install baseboards in one closet. when we were done he walked the job with my son and said everything looked great and wrote out the check to my son. he also told my son that we would be getting together to dicuss the outside. so i have no idea where this change of attitude came from and if these problems really existed why didn't this member call and let me know. i would also like to mention that i didn't shoot the texture --i just cleaned it up and repainted what had already been done by previous contractors. and only the side of the doors that went to the rooms i was doing were sanded and painted. the other side of the doors were not in my contract. i don't appreciate this member blaming me for things that had nothing to do with me.this will be the last time i take a job from a member who's had problems with other contractors. i didn't feel right about this from the beginning when this member was bad-mouthing the contractors before me. it's my belief now that they may not have been the problem ????!!!! and if he really does have yet another contractor working at his house-- i have no doubt their next in line for his criticisms. another reason i think this member is confused --he has the completion date of november 28th, 2011 but i started the job on december 6th, 2011 and finished on december 7th, 2011. i'm not the contractor he dealt with in november. but he's had so many -maybe he can't keep up with who's who. winston kirby

Excellent service. I am very OCD, not kidding, medicated for my compulsions to clean and I need accuracy and cleanliness. Kirby painting did an excellent job, if they could make me happy, they could make anyone happy! I will use them again and they gave me a great price and I loved working with all of them, owner and the crew!
Description of Work: Painted many rooms interior, high ceilings, trays, niches.

We selected Kirby Painting Services after reading their Angie's List reviews and after meeting Winston Kirby (owner). We purchased a 40 year old home (from the estate of the original owner) that had probably not been remodeled at all during those years. We wanted to retain the '70's funkiness of it while doing some updating. The house had been unoccupied for some time and the roof had leaked in several places messing up the popcorn ceiling in several rooms and the vaulted entry way (yes we wanted to keep the popcorn ceilings!). We had electricians come in to rewire most of the house and install 20 or so can lights. They left many large holes in the ceilings and the walls that had to be repaired. To be truthful the whole interior of the house and the garage was a mess. This all had to be fixed before we could move in. We received bids from four Angie's List recommended painting companies and felt Winston at Kirby Painting understood what we were trying to achieve (retain our homes funkiness while freshening it up). There bid was not the lowest and was not the highest. They required half down before beginning the work. Winston and his crew showed up on time and took about a week to complete the work. They were able to paint and repair all the stains and holes in the popcorn ceilings. They also filled and retextured all the holes in the walls. We cannot even tell where the holes were and the popcorn texture they reblew matches the original perfectly. We had them paint the entire interior, ceiling and garage of our home and it looks terrific. The walls were painted in one color and the trim and doors in another. The cost of all the interior work was $3,500 and included all labor and materials and a two year warranty. They used the top of the line Behr paints and we feel it was money very well spent. Fast forward two months. We are now living in our new (old) house and love it, but it is time to paint the outside for which we once again choose Kirby Painting. The home is about 60 percent brick and the rest is wood and vinyl siding. The outside was in about the same condition as the inside (terrible). There was a lot of rotted wood and the old brown paint was peeling and flaking badly. We decided to freshen up our home by changing the color of the wood, siding, doors and rod iron railings. We ended up replacing the boring brown with five different colors from the '70's on it. Winston, his son Chris and their crew once again did a terrific job. They replaced the rotted wood, scrapped the peeling old paint and painted everything with two coats of Behr paint. The job took about a week and cost $2,500 including all materials, labor and a two year warranty. We were really glad we selected Kirby Painting to do all of our painting work. Our house looks terrific and Winston, his son and his crew couldn't have been any easier to work with. They listened to all of our wants and gave us suggestions when we asked. It is obvious that they take great pride in the work they do (something that I haven't seen with all the companies that I have dealt with). After they were finished and at no extra cost, he replaced some missing molding in our garage and painted the vents, electrical pipes and fireplace flues on the roof because he felt that "they just didn't look right" with the rest of our newly painted home. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Kirby Painting to anyone I know. If you would like to use them plan on it taking about 3 weeks once you commit before they can start the work. They are that busy, but well worth the wait.

Winston showed up on time for the estimate, and everything went very well from that point until the job was completed. My initial thought was to paint the whole house exterior, but Winston suggested just painting the back of the house because the front didn't really need it. I'm very happy with all aspects of the job: the price, the quality of work, the work was completed on time, and Winston and his crew were friendly and professional.
Description of Work: Kirby Painting painted the back exterior of my house, including porch railings and ceiling, and my garage door. They also fixed/replaced a good amount of rotted wood, including repairing a 4x4 post that supported the roof of my porch.
