Description of Work: When I explained my problem and need, he candidly told me it wasn't worth spending the money to repair it (my freezer "leaked" warm air due to the seal). He could have ripped me off for a couple of hundred dollars. I'd use him again in a NY minute.

+ -1 moreI put a load of clothes in the washer, pulled out the fill knob, and...nada. Found James on Angie's List, called him and got his voice mail. Unlike tons of others that never return a call, he returned my call in less than 5 minutes. He was en-route to another job but arrived at my house within a couple of hours. He looked at the washer, and diagnosed the problem very quickly. He went to get a new switch, and returned while I was gone (I am having our siding replaced, and the contractor let him in). He repaired the washer very quickly, and left a bill (talk about refreshing in this day and age). Kinda reminds me of the old country doctors. He is by far the best repairman I have ever hired. Very personable, professional, responsive, and reasonable rates. Hire him if you ever get the chance. You won't be sorry.

I was impressed and thankful with the timeliness of his responses to my voice-mail messages requesting assistance. In addition, he always tried to work around my schedule. I was very impressed with his dedication and willingness to gather additional information about my refrigerator on his own time. I will definitely request his help in the future when I experience problems with my appliances.
Description of Work: James Beardsley made two service calls to my home to diagnose why my refrigerator's built-in water dispenser stopped working. After checking various points of failure, he correctly diagnosed that the portion of the water line within the freezer door was frozen. He provided helpful advise on how to potentially unthaw the water line, and he refused to charge me for these service calls because he could not permanently fix the problem.

Knew what the problem was immediately, ran post-repair diagnostics to make sure problem was fixed and there wasn't some other root cause.

+ -1 moreI purchased the replacement evaporator fan along with a refrigerator repair manual for a cost of $105. I removed the ice maker and the back panel of the freezer section of the refrigerator. I removed the old evaporator fan and put in the new one. I replaced the back panel and ice maker. When I turned on the refrigerator, the loud noise was gone. I have added James C. Beardsly Appliance Service to my address book so I will remember to call him the next time I have a problem with an appliance.
Description of Work: My 16 year old refrigerator started making a loud noise. When I opened the freezer section the noise was much louder. I did some searching on the internet regarding the problem and concluded that the evaporator fan needed to be replaced. I called James C. Beardsly Appliance Service and left a message, Mr. Beardsly returned the call a short time later. After I explained my problem, Mr. Beardsly agreed that it sounded like the evaporator fan did need to be replaced. He said he would not be able to do the repair until the next day. He also told me that the cost of the fan would not be more than $100 and where I could get the part if I wanted to do the replacement myself. He indicated that if he did the repair the cost including part and labor would be about $200-$250. He said that he would be glad to do the work but considering the age of the refrigerator it might be better to apply the money toward replacing it. He told me how to access the fan to do the replacement myself.

I cannot tell you exactly what the problems were, but he can fix just about anything. He is a very pleasant, a handy man, and we are glad his service is around. + -1 moreI love being able to talk to the owner of the business. I needed him to look at my mother's dishwasher. She lives in Austin, I live and work in Bastrop. We conducted all our business by phone. He went and checked out my mother's dishwasher, found the computer board was bad. He said only rebuilt boards were available and he did NOT recommend them. He recommended replacing the dishwasher and recommended where to get another one and what brand (he doesn't install, only repairs). He was very nice on the phone, kept me informed, and sent me a bill. I will definitely call him in the future!

+ -1 moreOne afternoon, I discovered our refrigerator was not cooling and all the food spoiled. I found James Beardsley here on Angie's List and called that afternoon. He called back immediately and even though this was our secondary refrigerator, came out the next day. He thought it was either a relay or the compressor. He felt since the relay was a less expensive fix, we should try that first (thank you). He had to special order the part, which took a couple of days to come in. He stayed in contact to let me know the status. After finding the relay was not the problem, he informed me that my compressor was still under warranty and I should call the manufacturer. He said if he fixed it, I should just buy a new refrigerator. He kept the special order part and added it to his stock, charging me only for the service call. James went above and beyond to help and I will call his business any time I have an appliance repair! I could not have been more impressed!
Description of Work: James diagnosed my two year old Maytag refrigerator as needing either a relay or a compressor. He ordered the part and tried it, but as it did not work advised me to contact the company, as the compressor was under warranty (of which I was not aware).

He was missing a final part after working on it for about 20 minutes, went and got the second part and then returned and fixed it. He had never done work for me before but just left a bill with my son. Great job, cleaned up after himself, and could not have been nicer to my son (his words).
Description of Work: The drum in our Frigidaire Gallery Dryer had loosened itself, becoming misaligned, and it was grabbing clothes and tearing holes or leaving burn marks on them. Jim diagnosed the problem over the phone and made an appointment to come out the next day. He fixed it in two trips that day. Four months later and no problems whatsoever.

+ -1 moreVery well. Mr. Beardsley returned my call within 1 1/2 hours, and we made an appointment for the following morning. He arrived as promised and quickly diagnosed the problems. At my request, he recommended a vendor for the dryer vent cleaning and advised that a new washing machine was a better investment than repairing my 10-12 year old model. Again at my request, he recommended a brand and vendor. I purchased a machine at a very good price from the vendor that he recommended, and it will be delivered and installed in 2 days as requested. I have also made an appointment with the dryer vent cleaner. Mr. Beardsley was professional and personable, as were the other vendors he recommended.
Description of Work: Mr. Beardsley tested the dryer and concluded that the dryer vents needed cleaning. He identified the mechanical problem with the washer immediately and gave me a written estimate. Upon inquiry, he recommended that I replace, rather than repair, the washing machine, and recommended a brand and vendor.

+ -1 moreMr. Beardsley was very professional. He quickly determined the problem. He had the part in his truck and was able to replace the dryer blower very quickly. The only part of the job that I did not like was that he was not able to give me a time frame as to when he was going to come over (just said afternoon). He told me to do whatever I had to do and that he would call when he was in the area and that we could meet at the house. Personally I prefer a time frame but it all worked out and the job got done quickly.

Bill was booked solid the day I called so he referred me to James Beardsley, who is also highly rated on Anglie's List. When I called James, he was not far from my home. He said he would rearrange a couple of service calls, that were not as critical and come to my house first. Sure enough, he arrived in less than 30 minutes , awesome. I even called James back later that night to get his opinion and input on a new refrigerator purchase. He happily took my call at 7:00 pm and was glad to give me his input and advice on a new purchase. That's great service that he didn't have to provide.
Description of Work: James arrived at my house less than 30 minutes after my initial call. My fridge was not staying cold and food was beginning to go bad, so I needed help ASAP. James diagnosed the problem as a failing compressor and recommended that I replace the refrigerator. Even though this was not news that I wanted to hear, James was very honest, did not try to repair a refrigerator that was not worth repairing, even though it would have meant more business for him. He completed the work quickly and professionally.
