Hammond Fireplace & Chimney

It went very well, very friendly (Brian) very efficient. Answered all questions and went over the inspection report. Did not suggest us purchasing anything we did not need (chimney lining). We were very pleased. Will use again.

Rob followed up with me within a few hours after I contacted him through his website. He told me that I was on the edge of his service area but the only way he would come look at my chimney is if I got 2-3 of my neighbors to also have him inspect their chimney while he was in the area and charge each one of them $110. I was able to get 1 of my neighbors to committ to having him inspection their chimney. I then went back to Rob and told him that I had one other neighbor interested in using his services and was not able to get anyone else. I offerred him to pay for an additional trip charge to cover the drive. He informed me he wasn't interested in taking the job even though he told me we were in his service area and I got him another job and offerred him a trip charge. McLean county residents - beware Rob won't make the trip!

That was the first time I've had the chimney cleaned since I purchased the house and it was a great experience. The whole thing took no longer than an hour, he covered the area around the fireplace opening so no dust got in my house, and explained everything he was doing. At the end, he even gave me some pointers on the type of wood that's best to burn, and how to take care of the fireplace. Overall, very satisfied and will use them again.

Rob Hammond was friendly and professional. He showed up on time. Inspected my chimney first from the inside and then from the roof. He did a wonderful job cleaning it and cleaned the fireplace and it looked better then it did before. After he was done cleaning he gave me a very detailed report and suggestions on how to make it work more better. I will be using him next year. and I'll be sure to recommend him to all my friends.

First, scheduling the appointment was easy. After leaving a message my call was promptly returned and I was able to confirm a spot within 1 week. Our technician, Brian, was extremely punctual, thorough, knowledgeable and very professional. He answered our questions throughout the process, provided safety information, and was very detailed in his inspection and cleaning. After the inspection of our two fireplaces, only one needed cleaning. He had all machines and materials he needed ready, and was extremely thorough in putting down plastic and cloths to make sure no mess was made in the process. I would highly recommend Hammond Fireplace & Chimney, and will definitely use them in the future.

He arrived on time, brought everything he needed when he came in (didn't need to run back out sixty times) and inspected and cleaned my gas fireplace. He was personable, professional, clean, and experienced. I will use him again and recommend him.

Brian did a great job in examining the fireplace and chimney to be sure it was safe to use. No cleaning was necessary. I had several questions and he was very knowledgeable and provided needed answers. Also, I had him clean the dryer vent. Very happy with the service! Will definitely use again!

I was very happy with the service. Our fireplace did not need to be cleaned but recommended it next Spring. They also answered any questions I had and had a good conversation with me on what a fireplace blower was and how to search online for one that worked with our insert model. I am also not very good at remembering when to do regular maintenance so he put our house on the list for a reminder in the Spring which we will be calling for a cleaning.

Rob did a good job. The fireplace needed some work which he did He cleaned the area upon completion. Rob is knowledgeable and i will contact him for annual maintenance.

The employee, (who introduced himself but I forgot his name), showed up 5 minutes BEFORE the appointment. Yeah! Since they primarily do chimney cleaning he wore a black, chimney sweep hat which he removed during the introduction. He got right to work after I showed him the problem and where the vent was outside. He is a big guy and all of the places he had to work were really small but he took this all in stride and found a way to do what he needed to do. He even had to go down in my very small crawl space to check out the vent hose run. While down there he found that my flexible hose was not attached to the ridged pipe, but just pushed up against it so he went above and beyond and wrapped duct tape around it to keep it together. I live in a duplex and my dryer vents on the other person's property on the other side of a fence. Every time he had to check the outside vent he had to walk all the way around the other house. He took this in stride and was always a professional. He cleaned up the lint that had been building up under my dryer for me, put the dryer back in place, and tested it. It was all working fine. After he left I ran two loads of clothes through the washer and dryer and the dryer worked fantastic. Instead of having to put things through twice the clothes were dry before the allotted time. Problem solved!

Our home inspector warned us to get a chimney cover, but we didn't act fast enough and a raccoon moved in... with her three babies. Rob and Brian made a few visits, evicted them without harm, and then cleaned the chimney and put on a cap. They were absolutely excellent throughout. We'll be calling them for all our chimney and fireplace work.

Brian was very nice and knowledgeable. Did a great job of inspecting and cleaning my chimney and provided me with great advice about future necessary actions for chimney care.

Rob arrived on time. He checked the fireburning fireplace and the gas log fireplace. Neither had been used frequently so they did not need cleaning. We had a slight water leak that we thought might have been coming in around the chimney or the flue. He went on the roof, checked the chimney caps, etc. He noted that there was silicone flashing that was pulling away and another place that might have contributed to a leak. After showing us the photos, he replaced the flashing. We won't know until it rains hard whether this all was repaired!

Workers arrived on schedule and were done in about a half a day. It should be noted that scaffolding was already in place.

He was very neat. He was on time and came in to clean the chimney. We had him come back and add a piece to it. He was always prompt and punctual. He was a very nice guy. The prices were what he quoted. He was very responsive. We paid $150 for the cleaning and the repair was around $150. The price was comparable. He came here twice. We might have used him, but we don't have the chimney anymore.

The technician was on time, courteous, and respectful. He covered the area surrounding the stove so that nothing would get dirty. He recommended some things to do to make the stove better, and noted a few things that should be done before the stove was put into use. Overall, I am very satisfied with the experience and will be using Hammond the next time the wood burning stove needs a cleaning!

Mr. Hammond was very thorough and very polite. He didn't do anything without explaining it to me first. He spent a good 2 or maybe 2.5 hours here. He not only cleaned the firebox, but he cleaned the glass on the fireplace screen too. He told me how to get rid of some scorch marks on the brick surround. He explained the idiosyncrasies of our particular flue mechanism. (He also gave me a lesson in how to correctly operate the flue, which is very tricky, and an estimate to replace our specific flue mechanism.) He also told me that our particular fire box (home built 50 years ago) will provide better fires if fires are built a certain way. Two months later, we've had several fires in our fireplace with no problems--we've lived in this house almost 9 years and didn't have success in building fires before Mr. Hammond was called.

The fireplace had not been used in probably 20 years. I wanted an inspection because we'll be selling the home this spring and I needed to know if it was a working fireplace and/or what needed to be fixed. If it passed inspection I also intend to use it. Brian (who works for Hammond) arrived promptly with his equipment and top hot (!) which he earned for his quality work with Hammond. He was friendly, professional, and very patient with me since I had a lot of questions about fireplace basics. He did what I expected: inspected the fireplace and went on top of the roof to look at the cap (which had been put on years ago to prevent birds, etc) from getting into the fireplace. It took an hour (but probably because I asked so many questions). He did not try to get me to do anything extra or unnecessary, but educated me on things I could consider down the road (or leave for the next owners). He reassured me, though, that what I have right now has the green light to have a fire. It was cheaper than I thought (based on other reviews), but I did not need any repairs so that is probably why. Also, it took just a couple days to schedule an appointment even though it is high season. When you call the number you leave a message and you get a call back within 24 hours. I would use them again!

We couldn't be more pleased with Ron's service. His work was top quality and his pries were extremely reasonable. He is passionate about his work and even left coloring books on the history of chimney sweeps for our children. I would highly recommend him.

Easy to schedule online, quick reply to schedule appointment. Arrived a few minutes late. Wore surgical foot covers to prevent dirt from being tracked in. Friendly & knowledgable.

We didn't use our fireplace much, but when selling our house the home inspector noted that the chimney needed to be cleaned. Not being familiar with chimney companies in our area, we found Hammond on Angie's List. He was very easy to deal with from start to finish. We scheduled an appointment, he was on time and completed the work quickly and completely.

Great work. It was a very thorough inspection and cleaning (no problems found in the chimney). The inspector did point out some minor issues in the firebox for the fireplace, noting that they were not something that needed to be fixed that day, but I went ahead and had him take care of it anyway. Very good service. I'd most certainly recommend them.

Good job was performed , the only problem was that they did not have a tall enough ladder (or ladders) to inspect the chimney cap.

The experience with Rob Hammond from Hammond Fireplace and Chimney was great from start to finish. He was friendly on the phone, called with plenty of notice to reschedule when a snowstorm prevented him from being able to make our original appointment, was punctual, and explained what he was doing as he did it. Before he even started work, Rob laid down drop cloth from our door to the fireplace to protect our carpets. He then inspected our fireplace and chimney, which had not been checked since we moved into the house 4 years ago. He recommended a cleaning and that several cracks in the back wall of the fireplace be patched. He was able to do the cleaning and patchwork on the same trip as the inspection and the total time for the appointment from start to finish was only a little more than an hour. He left our home as (or more) clean as it was when he arrived and clearly explained what he found and the charges before accepting payment. Rob was very personable and professional and we plan to use his company and services again for yearly inspections.

Very well. When he came to give the estimate he examined what needed to be done and explained it to me thoroughly. Just over a week later he & an assistant came to do the work. They were careful to not make a mess, cleaned up before they left, were very polite & pleasant... and got the job done a little earlier than he thought.Very professional and the chimney looks great.
