First time customer, and we are delighted. Patient with my questions by phone; service performed quickly and satisfactorily. Only minor glitch was failure to arrive within promised 2-hour appointment window, with no call to advise they were running late. When we called to ask what about the status of our service call, our call was handled courteously and professionally. Cowart apologized, contacted their technician, provided revised appointment time, and met that commitment. We would absolutely use Cowart again.

I actually found them on Angie's list and the ratings were good for them so I gave them a try. They came to my home looked over my issues and made their recommendation that my door was not repairable and needed to be replaced. It had two large cracks in the panels from going up and down for over thirteen years. The price they quoted was fair, they arrived when they said they would, they did the work requested at the price stated in a timely manner. The doors both work beautifully and I'm very pleased. I would recommend them to anyone needing overhead door repair or replacement.

Description of Work: Cowart replaced our garage door that was bent and wouldn't close. I found a few companies that were less expensive but Cowart was timely and professional. They replaced the door quickly once it was shipped to them. A few weeks later, the door wouldn't work. It turned out it was related to the opener itself, not the door and they fixed that quickly as well.

My garage door was only opening sporadically. I called and spoke with someone and described what was happening. I was impressed (I think it may have been Dave) because he seemed to know from the description what the problem likely was. In fact, he was able to tell what brand and I think the model of opener I had. He indicated that he sees the problem I was having frequently with this opener. The tech was scheduled to come out in a reasonable timeframe. Since I have also bee wanting a keyless entry, I asked if one could be added while they were here. They had the part in so the installation was agreed upon. When the technician arrived, I asked what seemed to be the "main" technician, I asked him how old my opener was. He said he didn't know and that there was no date on the unit. I asked him if my garage door could have caused the problem with the opener (I had accidentally closed my garage door while my minvan trunk was open causing the door to bend/slightly split between two sections). He said no and simply moved to fix the repair. He did no testing to confirm the diagnosis that was made on the phone and seemed to do little to no testing of the door after the part was replaced. He programed the keyless entry and while doing so, the second tech noticed a date on the unit indicating that the opener was 18 years old. I asked how long openers last and was told that generally they last @15 years. I pressed again trying to find out what kind of shape mine was in (motor seemed good, etc so maybe I it still had plenty of life, etc). I got a smug answer to the effect that "It could die in 30 days, I don't know". He handed my bill and I paid almost $200 for the parts and labor. Unfortunately, within one or two times of the garage door opening/closing, the very same problem occured. The door would cease opening/closing and required manual lifting and reset. A "senior" tech was sent the next day. First, let me say that when the tech came out, the door opened (as luck would have it). He was willing to replace the part that the other guy replaced, but he didn't think that was the problem. Basically, he seemed to feel that given the age of the opener, some worn out parts, etc, I'd be better off buying a new one. No kidding? That's what I was trying to ask the other guy. I needed to check on finances, the price they were offering and the quality of the system they were recommeding before agreeing. Truthfully, I really didn't want to use this company, but given that I had already paid them, I knew it would be difficult to get them to return my $200. That ended up being the case. They were willing to refund my money for parts, not labor. Well...in my opinion the labor was worthless, so I was not happy. That evening, I received ValuPak and competitors (with far more postives on Angies List) were offering the same system for less than they were quoting me. I asked Cowert to match competitors price and they would not. They tried to indicate that the competitor would add a whole bunch of charges (takedown, disposal, etc) and that they were in fact cheaper. I called the competitor while I had Cowert on the phone and they said they had no addiitonal charges. Cowert reduced the price some, but not to the level of the competition. I was unhappy, but agreed because I didn't feel like dealing with fighting to get a total refund from the "fix". Due to scheduling conficts, I was not able to schedule the new system to be installed until after the weekend. Another new tech came out and replaced the entire opener. He said he wouldn't program my car, because he'd have to charge extra. No big deal, but I think a little customer service was definitely due! I paid an additional $200 (total $400) and assumed I finally had a working garage door. Any guesses? That was not the case! I closed the garage door after the tech left. It worked. I went to go out @ 4 hours later and opend the door. It worked. I went to close the door to drive away and it didn't work. A quick glance at the manual (which was still sitting in my garage indicated that something was majorly wrong). I called and I was told a tech would be right over. I needed to leave, so we scheduled for @2 hours later. I also asked for a call from the owner fo the company this evening (which I did not receive). The "senior" tech came back out and saw that one of the wires going to the unit had broken. Apparently, the tech who installed the opener had twisted and so overtightened the wire, that one or two openings and the thing just snapped.. Not having any confidence that any of the install was done properly, I asked the senior tech to give the whole job an inspection. He says everything looks good, but I definitely have a "wait and see" attitide at this point. Theoretically, I finally have a working garage door opener. I may post back to update on whether it works consistently. I will also post back if there is any relevent info that comes out of any conversation with the company owner. It is defintiely my sense that the technicians are inexperienced and seem to have little diagnositic experience, do not test their work and do not have any customer service savvy. I would have expected the company to give much more thought and effort to the customer service aspect given that there are many other companies in the Austin area to choose from. I'd have to say that given the lack of repair and install service and customer service quality, at this point I can not honestly say I would choose this company if I needed something in the future. It's a shame for the company, given that we will likely purchase a new door sometime in the not to distant future.

When a jackhammer on the street shook our house, our garage door spring (which was very old) gave up the ghost, leaving us unable to get in to the garage (having an electric car w/o access to our charger was a big concern). We called up Cowart, and they came this morning to repair the spring, tune our garage door, replace the rollers, and give us an estimate for a full garage door replacement (which we'll probably have to do over the next year or two). They were prompt and professional, and did a truly amazing job. Our garage door is now so quiet, we're double-checking to make sure it closed, because all of the screeching, scratching and banging sounds are gone. When it's time to replace the entire door, we're definitely looking forward to working with them again.

While I was researching a new garage door opener, I actually showed up at the Cowart office and they gave me operation demonstrations of a couple of openers and showed me some brochures of openers with the different options and costs. They also showed me bochures of different garage door types and costs. After mulling it over a week or so, I called Cowart and they soon sent someone out to investigate my old system and provide an estimate. The estimate was very close to the estimate I received at the office. I called later and made an actual installation appointment. They were flexible and came at a convenient time for me. They finished in about a half day, and along the way they answered any questions I had during installation. They did a good job cleaning up afterward. But they never followed up later to make sure everything went OK and that the new system was going good. No problems with new system to date.
Description of Work: Needed a new garage door opener. Decided to get a new garage door too. Cowart installed both and carted away the old stuff.

Our garage was falling apart when we moved into our house and Dave worked with us while we considered a glass garage door and then worked with us again when we realized we wanted a custom wood door. Dave had his crew repair our beat-up door while the other was being built and then Kyle and Andrew - who were AWESOME - installed the door and new motor. They were very professional and on time and made the entire experience great. We love our new door.

Very well: one of our doors stopped going up & down suddenly. Cowart sent someone out right away. It took a little while to figure out the problem. When they did, they made arrangements to return with the parts to fix the doors the next day (we have unique doors so we did not expect them to have the parts on the truck). As always, they did exactly what they said they'd do. Highly recommend Cowart Door Systems!

I scheduled an 8:00am appointment. At 9:00am, I called Cowart to see if their service man was coming. Answer: "uh, yes, we had a meeting this morning but he's on his way". At 11:00am, I called to see when he was coming and they said: "I think he should be there at any minute". The repairman finally arrived at noon. He was professional and apologetic and did a very good job, saying something to the effect that maybe too many appointments had been scheduled that morning. The actual work was just fine, but I don't appreciate scheduling an appointment and then waiting for four hours for the person to show up.

In cold weather my door was stopping after opening 2 feet. I called Cowart's today and was told a technician would be out within an hour, and they would call me when someone was on the way. I was told there would be a service charge cost of $75. The technician came out. Was very friendly. Checked over my door and opener, and determined there were no major flaws with the system. He lubed all major parts, and adjusted the upward force tension on the door. I paid him, and he was on his way. Work completed in under 15 minutes. The work was prompt, and professional, and I was told from the beginning what the cost of the services were. I wish I had researched a little deeper. I choose Cowart because they were in my zip code, and I thought it would be more convenient to work with someone who was based nearby. That perhaps did provide an advantage for how quickly the work was performed. However, I wasn't really in a rush. After reviewing more recommended service providers on Angie's list and finding a Cedar Park company that offered door maintenance (which was all my door needed) for $38, I wish I would have looked a little further and used them even though they were farther away, because the price was so much better.

Daryll arrived, told me he might be able to help and did. Took about 15 minutes and now the door makes no noise at all. He tightened the spring as well as lubricated the bushing in the spring. My only complaint is that I did not know when he would arrive although he did call about 20 minutes before he did arrive at 5 pm.

Dave was very professional, explained all of the options and the rationale for his recommendations, and was prompt in providing a bid. The work was scheduled and a few days later, the garage technician, Darrell, came out to the house and the work was done quickly, quietly and with no hassles. I'd definitely recommend Cowart if you want to deal with a professional organization and don't mind paying a little more money for a hassle free transaction.
Description of Work: My garage door was very loud, waking up the sleeper in the bedroom above the garage. So, after consultation with Dave Winship, I decided to install a new DC motor (including new remotes and outdoor keypad), garage door insulation, and overall tune-up of the bearings/wheels and springs.

They responded to my request for service quickly, and arrived within the window of time the gave me. My (metal, non-insulated, 16' wide) garage door was extremely loud and was jamming partway down (causing it to then go back up). Cowart door came out to look at it, and after looking quoted me $85 to fix it. They then performed the work at that time: lubricating the spring, servicing and lubricating the bearings, servicing and lubricating the hinges, fixing some loose wiring in the opener. This took about 2.5-3 hours (maybe a bit more, I did not look closely at the time). Then they went over some preventative maintenance with me, and charged the $85 that they quoted. This work was done about 2 months ago and the door is still operating flawlessly and quietly. I put N/A for a rating on the price, because I did not get multiple quotes and have no idea whether this was a "good price" relative to other service providers. Personally, I was completely satisfied with the work done for the price charged.
Description of Work: Garage Door Maintenance (metal, 16' wide garage door) - lubricating the spring - servicing and lubricating the bearings -- some of these needed to be more securely bolted to the door, which was done with bolts, rather than the sheet metal screws that were originally installed. - servicing and lubricating the hinges, some of these needed to be more securely bolted to the door, which was done with bolts, rather than the sheet metal screws that were originally installed - fixing some loose wiring in the opener

The job went very well, and we are pleased with the result. They were very professional from first call through the installation of the door. It went terribly. They showed up, did not have the parts to complete the service and charged me $66 for a 'service call'. I emailed the company last week asking for a refund and have heard nothing. Just like I never received any call about the possibility of replacing a cone versus the whole spring...
Description of Work: I spoke with Dave Winship while his technician was out on Tuesday, Sept 2nd and he refused to waive a $66 service fee being charged when their technician showed up to replace springs and did not have the correct parts. Cowart Doors advertises free estimates in the yellow pages. I received an estimate over the phone, they sent out a technician who looked at the door, decided I needed 'special order' springs and produced a bill for $66. I was extremely surprised to be charged $66 for a "service call" that was under 15 minutes long when they did not carry the correct parts. I protested this with Mr. Winship and pointed out that their Yellow Pages ad offers free estimates. Since the technician was inside my home and would not leave until I paid, I did not feel I had any option but to do so. The technician said (and the invoice states) that he was going to look into whether the cone could be replaced instead of the whole spring and that someone would call me. I did not receive any communication from Cowart Doors on Wednesday or Thursday. Another company came out the next day, Wednesday Sept. 3rd, and had no problem replacing the 'special order' spring. I was also told they were not special order springs. One was an upper end residential spring and the other was a lower end commercial spring. The company who replaced them was called Wed. morning and was out by 10 am to complete the work. I called to make an appointment and was quoted a price for replacing springs on a double door. The person who made the appointment did not say anything about charging a service call fee if the technician arrived and could not perform the service requested due to not having parts. If there was any question about what type of service was needed, it is their responsibility to send out an estimator versus a technician. I am not an expert on garage doors or springs.

They installed the door with plastic bearings that already needed to be replaced after only 6 months. The main spring failed. The door itself is fine. They did a good job with the installation, though originally it was not secure. They came back to fix that. A different company fixed the bearings for us. They had to store the door for a period of time while the garage builder was finishing the work. It got to the point where they were going to begin charging storage cost. In the end it did not come to that.
